ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: THE PSALM 23 ADVENTURE, Part 21<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

November\n 11, 2016<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ll get to the next picture in our list of purposes and\ndesigns of the Lord in walking in the Paths of Righteousness shortly, but I\u2019ve\njust remembered a couple of other stories that add to what we just shared last\nweek in our discussion on walking and living by revelation rather than humanly\nacquired knowledge.<\/span><\/b>[spaces:0]<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Back\nin the mid 1960\u2019s when I was serving as Minister of Youth at Bethel Union\nChurch in Duarte, California, we had a very wealthy gentleman who was on the\nboard of Elders who took to me and began fostering a relationship between\nus.  Because of the financial limitations living on my salary as\nMinister of Youth (this was the ONLY time in my life when I accepted a salary\nfrom a church), he went out of his way to provide the occasional opportunity\nfor me to earn extra money to supplement my income so that my family and I\nweren\u2019t living on the razor\u2019s edge.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Occasionally\nhe would ask me to ride with him going different places, whether job-related or\n\u201cjust because.\u201d  He loved to talk about his early beginnings, living\nin near-poverty conditions.  One day as we were heading to a\nparticular job location, we pulled into a left-turn lane and stopped at the\nstop light.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He\nsaid to me, \u201cWould you like to know how the Lord has so blessed me financially?\u201d  I\nsaid, \u201cSure!\u201d  \u201cYou\u2019re sitting in it,\u201d he answered.  (We\nwere sitting in a Lincoln Continental at the time.)  I knew he wasn\u2019t\nthe designer of the Lincoln, and I wasn\u2019t sure just what he was talking about.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He\ncontinued.  \u201cYou are actually sitting in the midst of a dual\nblessing.\u201d  When this model of the Continental first came out, it\nsuffered from a lot of road noise.  I\u2019ve always enjoyed Lincolns and\nwanted to keep driving them.  The road noise in this car was not\nsomething I was willing to tolerate so I asked the Lord what the solution\nwas.  He gave me a total redesign of the floorboards by\nrevelation.  I sketched it out and presented it to Ford Motor\nCorporation.  Their engineers immediately saw the benefits and made\nme a financial offer for the design that started me on the road to genuine\nwealthy living.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nI expressed congratulations and admiration for it, he continued once again.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s\nonly part of the picture.  You see where we are sitting in this left\nturn lane, don\u2019t you?\u201d  I nodded my head.  \u201cI was sitting\nat a stop light one day, frustrated over the long wait time for opposing\ntraffic and wanting to make a left turn before the light\nchanged.\u201d  \u201cLord,\u201d I said, \u201cthere\u2019s got to be a solution to\nthis!  There are too many accidents from people who get tired of\nwaiting to turn left and having to wait through multiple stop lights.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nlaughed and nodded my head.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cI\nhardly had the words out of my mouth and the Lord gave me the design for the\nleft-turn lane and the left-turn light.  I did some engineering on\nhow big that left turn lane needed to be for average traffic conditions,\nsketched it on draft paper and presented to the State of California Highway\nDepartment.  They accepted it after some discussion and presented it\nto the State House.  The State House accepted it, approved it, and\nmade me a very wealthy person with annual payments that continue to this day.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As\nwe all know, the left-turn lane is so common today, we don\u2019t even think about\nits beginnings, or how we came to have it, and yet if you are old enough, you\ncan easily remember the days when there was no such thing.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\n1962, when I was working for NASA at Lockheed in Palo Alto, we were working on\na Command Programmer for the Agena<\/span> Rocket and the\nMercury Space Capsule (the same space capsule that most of the early astronauts\ntook their first rides into space with).  Pouring over a schematic\ndrawing one day, a part of the circuit leaped off the pages to\nme.  The function of that part of the circuit was something I wasn\u2019t\nreally clear on, but an application for it occurred to me.  A\ndiscussion with one of the senior engineers in the lab confirmed for me exactly\nwhat I needed to know.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nthat moment, the first design for a musical computer with specific applications\nwas born by revelation.  In my spare time (sometimes I wonder what\nthat is anymore!), I \u201ckluged\u201d together the first tiny computer that would\nanalyze the chord structure of my guitar playing and play an accompanying bass\nnote.  It tested out in the lab exactly as envisioned.  The\nproblem was that I didn\u2019t begin to have the funds to develop it.  It\nwas fully ten years later in the early 1970\u2019s when serving as Director of\nManufacturing for an electronics company in Orange County that an opportunity\npresented itself.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nwas given the opportunity to update the design into integrated circuits\n(Fairchild Semiconductor developed the IC\u2019s necessary) and package the computer\ninto something that was both esthetically pleasing and functionally appropriate\nfor musicians.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A\nprototype was constructed and I arranged a live demonstration with my guitar\nfor the president and vice-president of the company.  The look on\ntheir faces when they heard it was more than enough.  They\nimmediately called the president of CBS Musical Instruments (Fender Guitars)\nand asked him to come over for a demo.  Once he heard it, he agreed\nto purchase the design and begin manufacture.  Since we were an\nelectronics manufacturing company, he was glad for us to begin producing it and\nthe Fender Bassmaster<\/span> became a reality.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

[Some\nfolks ask me why I don\u2019t use it today and my answer is that with spontaneous\npraise and worship, I much prefer having Rich Warren playing live bass with\nme.  He adds a Spirit-led variety and musical diversity that the\ncomputer simply lacks.  (We\u2019ve been together for the past ten\nyears.  His wife, DeAngela<\/span>, is part of our\nworship team, and the four of us just flow together,)]<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

For\nnearly 60 years, the Lord has given me revelation of new products and new\ndesigns \u2013 the overwhelming majority of them coming when there was a necessity\nor a desire for greater flexibility or musical diversity.  In the\n1950\u2019s while at Southwestern Bible College, the Lord gave me the design for the\nStereo Guitar.  In the 1970\u2019s, I was approached by a manufacturing\nsupervisor for Audio Magnetics \u2013 a company that was mass producing cassette\ntapes \u2013 both the inexpensive sonic-weld variety and the much more expensive\nscrew case variety.  He asked me to accompany him into one of the\nproduction areas where there were rows of people assembling the screw-type\ncassettes.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nwas obviously a tedious process.  He looked at me and said, \u201cIs there\nanything you can come up with that would speed this up?\u201d  No sooner\nhad he asked the question when the Lord gave me the design for a machine that would\nassemble those cassettes in a fraction of a second.  I went home,\nbuilt a prototype with the assistance of a metal-fabrication plant, and then\ntook it to Audio Magnetics for a demonstration.  My supervisor friend\ntook one of the ladies off the assembly line so she could use that\nmachine.  When she was able to assemble a screw-type cassette in less\nthan a second, whereas before it could easily take two minutes, she was a happy\ncamper!  I sold that prototype to Audio Magnetics outright.  They\nproceeded to build many of them and the rest was history.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

These\nstories could go on and on, and there are many more examples I could share, but\nthis is a good place to move on to the next item in our list of purposes for\nwalking in the Paths of Righteousness.  My point in sharing all these\nstories is to show you that we definitely can live by\nrevelation.  Living by information may be pleasing to the soul, but\nit does nothing for our spiritual growth and outlook.  When God gives\nthe revelation, and opens the doors of opportunity, there just is no\nsubstitute!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

5.<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>If there is anything that needs to be developed in our lives\nas we continue this walk and grow in our relationship with the Lord with His\nRighteousness on display, we have to learn what it means to be \u201csupernaturally\nnatural\u201d and \u201cnaturally supernatural.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Those\nare catch-phrases I\u2019ve used for years, but they have real\nmeaning.  Consider Jesus.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Luke 19: 2-10<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>And, behold, there was<\/i> a man named Zacchaeus<\/span>, which was the chief among the publicans, and he\nwas rich. And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press,\nbecause he was little of stature.  And he ran before, and climbed up\ninto a sycamore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way<\/i>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and\nsaid unto him, Zacchaeus<\/span>, make haste, and come down;\nfor today I must abide at thy house.  <\/sup>And he made haste,\nand came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it<\/i>,\nthey all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a\nsinner.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And Zacchaeus<\/span> stood, and said unto the\nLord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have\ntaken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him<\/i> fourfold.\nAnd Jesus said unto him, T<\/a>his day is salvation come to\nthis house, forsomuch<\/span> as he also is a son of\nAbraham.  For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which\nwas lost.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Maybe\nit doesn\u2019t strike you at first, but in this one single event Jesus is both\nsupernaturally natural, and naturally supernatural.  Because of Who\nHe is at this point, Jesus is totally supernatural in His\noperation.  Zacchaeus<\/span> was a tax collector\nwho had heard about Jesus and wanted to check Him out.  Because he\nwas a short man \u2013 likely close to five feet in height \u2013 he just couldn\u2019t see\nover the crowds.  So he climbs up into this tree to get a better\nview.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nsees Zacchaeus<\/span> and knows instantly by the Spirit that\nthere is a hunger in the man for something a whole lot more than his\nwealth.  The wealth can temporarily satisfy his soul, but it has done\nnothing for his spirit.   So Jesus does something totally\nunexpected.  He acts supernaturally natural.  He invites\nHimself to Zacchaeus<\/span>\u2019 house.  Zacchaeus<\/span>, of course, quickly descends from the tree,\noverjoyed that he \u2013 a man much despised by the common folks, much less the\npriests \u2013 gets to host this most famous and talked-about rabbi.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nvery presence of the Lord with Holy Spirit permeating Him and filling the place\nhas a dramatic impact.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\u2019s\ntoo much to share here, so let\u2019s continue this next week.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
