ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: THE PSALM 23 ADVENTURE, Part 18<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

October\n 14, 2016<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I sort of got ahead of myself last week in sharing the pictures\nI had started on.  During the week, Holy Spirit unfolded an\nunderstanding for me of just what Jesus walked, and how He prepared the Paths\nof Righteousness ahead of us.  Jesus had to prepare these paths, or\nelse we wouldn\u2019t have the pattern set for us.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let me begin today by sharing something that Paul wrote to the\nHebrews as He shared with them(and us, of course) just why we have these paths\nin the first place.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Hebrews\n2:10-18<\/span><\/u><\/b>:  <\/span>For it became him, for whom are<\/i> all things, and\nby whom are<\/i> all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to\nmake the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. For both he\nthat sanctifieth<\/span> and they who are sanctified are<\/i> all\nof one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, Saying, I will\ndeclare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing\npraise unto thee. And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I\nand the children which God hath given me.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood,\nhe also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might\ndestroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them\nwho through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to\nbondage.  For verily he took not on him the nature of<\/i> angels;\nbut he took on him<\/i> the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all\nthings it behoved<\/span> him to be made like unto his<\/i> brethren,\nthat he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining<\/i> to\nGod, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself\nhath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour<\/span>\nthem that are tempted.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Do\nyou see it?  It was necessary for Jesus to partake of flesh and\nblood.  You\u2019ll recall that I\u2019ve shared in the past that when Adam and\nEve were first created, they did not have blood running in their\nveins.  They were created as children of light.  It is my\nconviction \u2013 and you don\u2019t have to agree with me, if you don\u2019t want to \u2013 that\nfor the first couple thousand years of their walk with God in the Garden, they\nhad light in their veins.  That light shown upon and through them as\nthe Glory of God.  They were clothed in His Glory.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Once\nthey responded to Satan\u2019s deception and lies and ate of the Tree of the\nKnowledge of Good and Evil, that light congeal<\/a>ed into\nblood.  With the loss of that light and the Glory that clothed them,\nthe Lord shed the blood of lambs as a prophetic picture of what was to come in\nthe redemptive process that would unfold \u2013 first through the laws of sacrifice,\nand then through the sacrifice of Jesus\u2019 blood.  Don\u2019t\nforget!  The Lord clothed them with the sheepskins as their covering\nonce they became flesh and blood beings.  It was a \u201ctype and shadow\u201d\nof their blood covering for their sin.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now, we need to take a look at what\nJesus walked.  It is important to understand that the Lord does not\nrequire us to walk in paths He, Himself, did not first walk.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A few years ago, I put the 23rd Psalm\nto music (actually three different times with entirely different musical\nthemes) and the song we sing most often is, \u201cWhere He leads me, I will\nfollow.\u201d  That, really, is what this discussion is all about.  He\nis leading us in these paths so that His righteousness becomes part and parcel\nof our lives.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Take a look at something that Paul\nwrites in his letter to the Philippians:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Philippians 2:5-11<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who,\nbeing in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made\nhimself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made\nin the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled\nhimself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Wherefore God also hath\nhighly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the\nname of Jesus every knee should bow, of things<\/i> in heaven,\nand things<\/i> in earth, and things<\/i> under the\nearth; And that<\/i> every tongue should confess that Jesus\nChrist is<\/i> Lord, to the glory of God the Father.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Some\nof what Paul writes here gets a bit lost or obscured in the KJV, so let me\nre-translate and amplify it like this.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Cause this manner of thinking \u2013 to exercise and discipline your\nmind \u2013 in the same way that Jesus did, who, being part of the Godhead, did not\nconsider it an inappropriate assumption, even illegal plunder, to be on par\nwith Father God, being like Him in every respect,<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But now finding Himself in the nature and makeup of a natural\nman, humbled Himself, emptying Himself and neutralizing all of His God-powers\nand authority so that He could become an ordinary man (taking on the position\nof the fallen Adam) \u2013 even debasing Himself to the level of a servant; and in\nso doing submitted Himself to the curse of death, even the cursed death of the\nCross;<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As a result, and consequence of Jesus\u2019 submission, Father God\nhas elevated and exalted Him, granting and ascribing to Him that name \u2013\ncharacter, nature, makeup, authority, position and power \u2013 which is above and\nbeyond all names (with their nature, makeup, authority, position and power)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So that at the sound and presence of Jesus\u2019 name \u2013 all that He\nis, and Who He is \u2013 every single knee MUST bow, submitting to the authority of\nJesus Christ, including beings in Heaven, beings in and on Earth, as well as\nthe spirits of departed beings;<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And every tongue, manner of speech and language should agree\n(with Father\u2019s decree and declaration) that Jesus Christ is Lord \u2013 supreme in\nauthority and controller of all \u2013 in the process bringing glory, honor, praise\nand magnificence to Father God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

(Philippians\n2:5-11, RAC Translation & Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nmay not be obvious at first glance, but take another look at what Paul is\nsaying.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nhe is telling us is that although Jesus was indeed part of the God-head and on\npar with Father and Holy Spirit, when He allowed Himself to be born into this\nworld as a flesh-and-blood being, He divested Himself of His God powers.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\nnot forget that the entire objective for Jesus\u2019 coming was to redeem a people\nwho had been created for Him and for His pleasure in the first place.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nAdam partook of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, he subjected all of\nhis descendants \u2014 and the earth as well \u2014 to a curse.  That curse was\ndeath.  That curse was separation from an intimate relationship with\nthe Lord.  Nevertheless, there were a few individuals throughout the\nintervening millennia who bypassed their human intellect to walk with the Lord\nin a relationship totally foreign to the world around them.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\nsee, there was Enoch, then Shem, then Abraham.  Then there was David\n\u2014 and how about some of the prophets, like Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and\nDaniel.  There were others, of course, but you get the\npicture.  You can almost count on two hands the number of individuals\n\u2014 among millions of people \u2014 who actually broke past the barriers of human\nreasoning to walk with the Lord in a level of relationship of which the world\naround had no understanding.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nthis statement that Paul makes of Abraham in his letter to the Hebrews:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Hebrews\n11:9-10: <\/span>By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in<\/i> a\nstrange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with\nhim of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose\nbuilder and maker is<\/i> God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Understand?  Abraham\nsaw into the realms of the Spirit.  He looked for City of God, that\nplace where what was natural was actually supernatural \u2013 by human reasoning and\nperspective.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But\nhe wasn\u2019t alone!  Paul continues this discourse.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Hebrews\n11:13-16: <\/span>These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but\nhaving seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them<\/i>, and\nembraced them<\/i>, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims\non the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a\ncountry. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country<\/i> from\nwhence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now\nthey desire a better country<\/i>, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God\nis not ashamed to be called their God: for he<\/span> hath\nprepared for them a city.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Nevertheless,\nthere was not a single person among them who actually got to walk in the\ndimension that Jesus intended from the beginning.  In order for that\nlevel of fellowship and intimacy (not to mention the authority and power) to be\nrestored, Jesus had to break the curse.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\ncurse had subjected the world and all that is therein \u2014 including the human\nrace \u2014 to the lies, the deception, the seduction, and the attacks of Satan,\nalong with the manipulation and control of evil spirits.  But it\ndidn\u2019t stop there.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nentire seed of humanity became corrupted with the seed of\nSatan.  Satan was exerting his control of the human race and\nsubjecting it to slavery.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Every\nsingle person who lived and died did so because the same curse that Satan was\nunder became the curse of humanity.  Adam and Eve, and their seed\nafter them, had been created from the beginning to live\nforever.  Death was never supposed to be a part of the human\nexperience.  Sickness, disease, weakness, emotional and mental\nproblems were never designed to be a part of anyone\u2019s life or experiences.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Because\nevery single human \u2014 including those prior to Jesus\u2019 coming who actually lived\nlives of faith and obedience to the Lord \u2014 were subject to the curse, He had to\nreverse that curse.  All of humanity, up to this point, was living\nsub-normally.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\norder for redemption and restoration to the original design and purpose, as\nwell as cancelation of the curse of sickness, infirmity, every disease known to\nman, mental and emotional illnesses, weakness \u2014 and death itself \u2014 Jesus had to\nreverse the curse that came by eating of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and\nEvil.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He\nhad to become an ordinary man.  It became necessary for Him to divest\nHimself of all of His God powers.  Let\u2019s not forget that even as a\nhuman being of flesh and blood, Jesus KNEW who He was, and what He was to begin\nwith.  Yet, He did not try to access those powers and\nauthority.  To do so would have negated his living and walking as an\nordinary person, subject to the curse, subject to the same fears that beset men\nand women, and subject to all the same temptations we struggle against.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nhad to walk as a human being, refusing to submit to Satan, learning to overcome\nthe same temptations we must overcome, learning how to overcome all disease and\nsickness,<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

learning\nhow to conduct himself in the sight of men and women, learning how to deal in\nthe business world, learning how to live with great wealth and not have it\naffect his character and nature in order to prepare the paths that we must walk\nin. For the first thirty years of His life, He had to walk the same overcoming\npaths that we walk in order to set the standards of Righteousness.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\nnot forget something else.  There\u2019s an aspect of Jesus\u2019 humanity that\nmost folks seem to miss.  Every human being born into this world\nsince Adam was, for all intents and purposes, a slave.  That meant\nthat slaves had no right to contest Satan\u2019s hold.  Slaves were\nproperty \u2014 and universal law holds that slaves have no rights.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nhad to be born into this world as a human being, but NOT be of the seed of Adam\nin order to contest Satan\u2019s hold.  He was, therefore, born as the\nseed of God, supernaturally implanted into a woman, and \u2014 as was prophesied in\nthe Garden \u2014 became the seed of a woman (Mary) in order to qualify as a human\nbeing.  At the same time, by being of the seed of God, He was not born\na slave without the right to contest Satan\u2019s hold on the human race.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A\nprocess had to unfold in such a way that Jesus could take on the power of the\nHoly Spirit and demonstrate to the world \u2014 as a human being \u2014 His defeat of\nSatan.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A\nday came when He knew that it would be necessary to prepare the stepping stones\nnecessary for men and women to begin walking in the realm of the Spirit \u2014\nrising above the whims, the desires, the temptations of the flesh \u2014 and living\nin this world, still as flesh-and-blood human beings \u2014 but begin tasting of the\nrealm they were once designed for.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\norder to make that possible, Father had to approve and implement a\ndemonstration through Jesus that would show to those who would see, hear,\nunderstand, believe and obey that which is necessary for these steps to be\npossible for us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nwell understood the purposes of baptism.  The \u201cnormal\u201d man, Jesus,\nhad to die and be buried so that the Spirit-led and Spirit-filled Jesus could\nbegin to show the world \u2014 and specifically those who would accept and\nacknowledge Him for Who and What He was and is \u2014 just how it is possible to\nreturn to that place of intimacy with God we were first designed and destined\nfor.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And\nwe\u2019re only scratching the surface here.  We\u2019ll stop at this point and\ncontinue this discussion next week.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
