ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: THE PSALM 23 ADVENTURE, Part 17<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Today, let\u2019s see if we can draw a picture of the overall\npurposes and objectives for the Paths of Righteousness.  Let me begin\nfirst of all with three illustrations from the Word:<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

II Corinthians 5:21<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b>\u201dFor\nFather God has appointed Jesus to become sin on our behalf -- He, who had never\nknown or experienced error, missing the mark, or failing God in any way \u2013 so\nthat we might be caused to become the very righteousness of Father God in Him\n(Jesus Christ).\u201d<\/span>(RAC\nTranslation & Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

II Corinthians 8:9<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b>\u201cFor\nyou know and have revelation of the empowering that comes through the grace of\nour Lord Jesus Christ; knowing that, in spite of the fact that He was wealthy\nbeyond all measure and increased with goods, He took upon Himself the indigency<\/span> and poverty of the poor \u2013 taking that poverty to\nthe Cross and death itself \u2013 so that you, through His having taken that poverty\nupon Himself \u2013 might instead be redeemed from the curse of poverty and become\nrich through Him beyond measure.\u201d<\/span>(RAC Translation & Amplification)<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Revelation 4:11<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>For You, Oh Lord, are\ndeserving, worth and befitting of glory and magnificence, honor and esteem, and\nsupernatural power [of Heaven itself], because You have created, originated and\nfounded ALL (the universe and all that is therein) life \u2013 and specifically\nhuman life \u2013and for your determined will, proprietorship and purpose, desire\nand pleasure, ALL has been created, obtained and purchased.<\/span>(RAC Translation\n& Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Do\nyou see the objective God had from the very beginning?  Do you see the\npurpose for Christ Jesus to become our sin, our failure, our error in order to\nprovide a means for us to return to our created purpose?  Do you see why\nJesus had to take poverty upon Himself?  All this was to provide a means\nfor us to be restored to the Glory we were first created in.  Folks, we\nwere created for Him!  We were created to bring joy and pleasure to\nHim.  We were created to become His very family!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nrighteousness of God was the standard by and in which we were first\ncreated!  When Adam and Eve failed God by eating of the fruit of the Tree\nof the Knowledge of Good and Evil, bringing a curse upon the earth and upon all\nof their descendants, the entire human race became subject to that curse. \nDeath, disease, sickness and poverty were some of the attributes of the curse.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\ncurse left the human race in dire need of restoration of righteousness and the\npaths of righteousness.  Despite the fact that Messiah had not yet come to\nredeem the world and to provide a means for restoration to righteousness,\nhistory is filled with examples of those who had a revelation of righteousness\nand lived righteously.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nEnoch.  His walk with God was so intimate and so filled with the intense\npresence of the Lord and His character that he simply transitioned from an\nearth-bound existence to being with God in person because God took him there.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then\nthere was Enoch\u2019s great-grandson, Noah.  He lived a pure and\nuncontaminated life and was a preacher of righteousness to a world that\nrejected him and everything he preached.  Because of his righteousness in\nGod, the Lord instructed him to prepare an Ark for the deliverance of him, his\nfamily and every living creature so that God could wipe out the entire earth of\nthe wickedness which now prevailed everywhere.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Next\nwe come to Abraham, an eleventh-generation descendant of Noah and a tenth\ngeneration descendant of Shem, who became known as Malkiy-Tsedeq<\/span>\n(Melchizedek), \u201cthe King of Righteousness.\u201dWhen God made a specific promise and\ncovenant with Abraham \u2013 a promise that literally defied common sense and any\nremote possibility that it could come to pass, Genesis 15:6 tells us that:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cAnd he (Abraham) believed God, and He counted it to him for\nrighteousness.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Get\nit?  There was nothing in the earth \u2013 nothing in modern society \u2013 that\nwould have led any of these individuals to walk a righteous relationship with\nGod \u2013 and yet they did in the face of it all.  The beginning of\nrighteousness is believing God and acting by faith in response to His Word and\nHis expressed desires to us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nI\u2019d like to do is to lay out for you in systematic fashion, some basic\nunderstanding of the purpose and design God has for us in leading us in the\nPaths of Righteousness.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

1.      To\nestablish our<\/span><\/b> <\/span>citizenship\nin the Kingdom and a new identity in us as residents of the Kingdom of God.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Take\na look at something that Matthew writes (and this bears directly on the Paths\nof Righteousness, and where God is leading us.)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 4:16-17<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>The\npeople which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the\nregion and shadow of death light is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to\npreach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nword, \u201cRepent,\u201d comes from the Greek,<\/span> <\/span>metanoeo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.  This is a\ncompound word which literally         means:<\/span> <\/span>to actively exercise\nthe mind and to reconsider where your past decisions, actions and behavior have\nled you.  In other words, \u201cthink differently\u201d about things<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Proverbs 23:7a<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span> <\/span>For as (a man) thinketh<\/span> in his heart,\nso is he<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Understand? \nThe beginning place of establishing our citizenship in the Kingdom of God\nbegins with repentance: re-thinking who and what we are, re-thinking the steps\nwe have taken.  NOW we begin our walk in the Paths of Righteousness \u2013\nright standing with God, thinking the way that God thinks.  Brother, does\nthat ever take some effort!  To undo the thought processes and reasoning\nof the past is something that can only come when we surrender ourselves totally\nto God\u2019s way of thinking and speaking.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nis the real substance of repentance.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

2.      The\npurpose of this walk with the Lord is to lead us away from those who have\nconditioned our thinking by their words.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nthe following pictures in the Word:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Genesis 11:1-9<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span> <\/span>And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And\nit came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in\nthe land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to,\nlet us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and\nslime had they for mortar. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a\ntower, whose top may reachunto<\/span><\/span><\/i> heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered\nabroad upon the face of the whole earth.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And the LORD came down to\nsee the city and the tower, which the children of men builded<\/span>.\nAnd the LORD said, Behold, the people is<\/i> one, and they have\nall one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained\nfrom them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there\nconfound their language, that they may not understand one another\u2019s speech. So\nthe LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they\nleft off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because\nthe LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did\nthe LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nsee it, don\u2019t you? <\/span> <\/span>\u201cNothing\nwill be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.\u201d<\/span>  So then we are\ntold that God said,<\/span> <\/span>\u201cLet us\ngo down, and there confound their language that they may not understand one\nanother\u2019s speech.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Once\nfolks begin to think alike, then they act in concert with one another. \nTheir speech mirrors each other.  And when that thinking, that speaking,\nand those actions are in opposition to the Word and the Will of the Lord,\nconfusion and destruction follow.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thus,\nthe purpose of divorcing ourselves from friends and companions whose thinking\nand whose speech will lead us away from the righteousness of God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\npicture follows in Genesis 12:1-4<\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now the LORD had said\nunto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy\nfather\u2019s house, unto a land that I will show thee: And I will make of thee a\ngreat nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt<\/span> be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee,\nand curse him that curseth<\/span> thee: and in thee shall\nall families of the earth be blessed.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So Abram departed, as the\nLORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was<\/i> seventy\nand five years old when he departed out of Haran.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If\nAbraham was going to experience the blessing of the Lord, if he was going to\nexperience the profound destiny God had for him, it was absolutely essential\nthat he leave his family and get away from them.  When you understand that\nTerah<\/span>, his father (whose name translates to: delay,\nhold back) was a maker of idols and a Babylonian high priest, Abraham\u2019s family\nsurroundings and heritage were in direct opposition to the plan and purpose of\nGod.  If he was going to experience and know the destiny God had for him,\nit was absolutely essential that he leave his family (whose thinking was\naligned with Baal) and free himself from the speech and actions which would\nhave perpetually delayed and eventually stopped the plan of God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nthis: In Acts 7, we have a picture of Stephen delivering a message to the\nScribes and Elders of the people, who sat in opposition and judgment against\nhim.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Take\na look:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Acts 7:2-5<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of\nglory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he\ndwelt in Haran, And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy\nkindred, and come into the land which I shall show thee. Then came he out of the\nland of the Chaldeans, and dwelt in Haran: and from thence, when his father was\ndead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell. And he gave him none\ninheritance in it, no, not so much as<\/i> to set his foot on: yet\nhe promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed\nafter him, when as yet<\/i> he had no child.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Stephen\u2019s\ndiscourse to these people shows us what we missed seeing in the Genesis\nnarrative.  The Lord first appeared to Abraham when he was 50 years of\nage, and living in Ur of the Chaldees<\/span>.  The Word\nHe delivered to Abraham was,<\/span> <\/span>\u201cGet thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come\ninto the land which I shall show thee.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Abraham\nDID leave Ur of the Chaldees<\/span>, but he took his father\nand his entire family with him.  Thus, he had to wait another 25 years for\nhis father to die before the Lord would speak to him once again and say<\/span>, \u201cGet thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and\nfrom thy father\u2019s house.\u201d<\/span><\/span>So long as Abraham remained with his\nfather\u2019s house and his family surroundings, his obedience would be contaminated\nwith compromise and the promises of God could never be fulfilled in his life.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Terah\u2019s<\/span><\/span> name meant, \u201cdelay,\u201d\nand that\u2019s exactly what happened to Abraham, so long as he listened to the\nadvice and counsel of his father in the face of what God was saying to him.\n Once he left his father\u2019s house for good, and got away from the contrary\nadvice and communication, God was able to begin unfolding a destiny for Abraham\nthat would literally change the world!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

3.      It\u2019s\none thing to stop listening to the thinking and the speaking of those around us\n\u2013 especially when that speech is contrary to what God has said and is saying \u2013\nbut now, in order to continue our walk in the Paths of Righteousness, we must\nNOW alter our thinking AND our speech so that what we say is in agreement with\nwhat God has said, and IS SAYING to us NOW!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve\nalready quoted from Proverbs 23:7 (As a man thinketh<\/span>\nin his heart, so is he), but consider a couple of Kingdom principles Paul writes\nabout in his letters to the Ekklesias<\/span>.  We sing\nthis first one as an instructional song.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Philippians 4:7-8<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>And the\npeace of God, which passeth<\/span> all understanding, shall\nkeep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever\nthings are true, whatsoever things are<\/i> honest, whatsoever\nthings are<\/i> just, whatsoever things are<\/i> pure,\nwhatsoever things are<\/i> lovely, whatsoever things are<\/i> of\ngood report; if there be<\/i> any virtue, and if there be<\/i> any\npraise, think on these things.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then\nhe follows it up like this:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Philippians 4:9<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>Those\nthings, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me,\ndo: and the God of peace shall be with you.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Got\nit? <\/span> <\/span>Those\nthings which you have both learned, and received, and heard, AND seen in me,\ndo!<\/span> \nThis is why God has given us apostles \u2013 true apostles \u2013 whose word, and whose\nlives demonstrate the truth of the Word.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now,\nconsider Romans 10:8<\/u><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>But what saith<\/span> it? The word is nigh\nthee, even<\/i> in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word\nof faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt<\/span> confess\nwith thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt<\/span> believe in thine<\/span> heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt<\/span> be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto\nrighteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme leave you for this week with the following statement that Jesus makes, and\nwe will pick this up in greater detail next week.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 12:36-37<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak,\nthey shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt<\/span> be justified, and by thy words thou shalt<\/span> be condemned.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

THAT\u2019s\nwhy our speech has to be Kingdom speech.  That\u2019s why the way we speak is\nso critically important.  Our walk in the Paths of Righteousness depends\non it!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
