ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: THE PSALM 23 ADVENTURE, Part 13<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

September\n 9, 2016<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

From beginning to end, the Word of God is literally filled with\ngraphic pictures of how men and women reacted to the various spirits of\nfear.  Their lives were so compromised by fear that the Lord almost\nhad to shout in their ears in order for them to hear what He was\nsaying.  For those who responded to the Word of the Lord, deliverance\ntook place.  For those who didn\u2019t, the consequences that followed\nwere of their own making.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s not forget that in each case where we see the judgment of\nthe Lord manifested towards those who refused to listen, there had been clear\nwarning from the Lord of the consequences.  When Creation unfolded,\nthere were certain immutable laws that were put in place.  We talk\nabout the judgment of God, but it\u2019s not like God was deliberately and\nmaliciously targeting people who ignored Him.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Think about Adam and Eve, for example.  They were\nwarned that if they were to eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil,\ndeath would result.  God wasn\u2019t out to destroy them or hang the\nproverbial \u201cSword of Damocles\u201d over their heads.  In his love for\nthem, He was careful to warn them.  They simply were not designed as\nflesh beings to withstand the impact of having access to the knowledge of good\nor the knowledge of evil, apart from it being revealed according to God\u2019s time\nplan.  Hence the warning.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The Lord warns us in the same way.  He isn\u2019t\nthreatening us; His love lets us know when we are in danger and where the\nguidelines are to the paths of righteousness.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let me continue where I left off last week.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Remember\nthe sequence of events with Balaam?  He\u2019s just said all the right\nwords, <\/span>"If Balak<\/span> would give me his house\nfull of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the Lord my God, to do\nless, or more."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Oh,\nwe must impress them with our righteousness, mustn't we?  We really\nhave to let them know that this is "my God," and not "their\nGod."  We are very elite, and exclusive, aren't we?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But,\nlook at what happens next.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"Now, therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night,\nthat I may know what the Lord will say to me more."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What!?  Balaam,\nyou schmuck!  The Lord has already made it explicitly clear that you\nare not <\/b>to curse Israel; that they are blessed<\/b> -- by\nHim<\/b>, no less!  God is going to change His mind,\nmaybe?  Riiiight<\/span>!  Just so you\ncan be promoted to honor by Balak<\/span>, and receive all\nthat money!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Balaam!  You're\nin trouble!  You can't go back and ask the Lord if He changed His\nmind -- especially after He has made His will explicitly clear -- and not\nexpect to pay the consequences.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"And God came unto Balaam at the night, and said unto him,\n'If the men come to call thee, rise up and go with them; but yet the word which\nI shall say unto thee, thou shalt<\/span> do."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Reeeaally<\/span><\/span>?  Has God\nchanged his mind?  Nope!  He\u2019s going to use Balaam\u2019s fear\nto reverse the situation.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass,\nand went with the princes of Moab.  And God's anger was kindled\nbecause he went: and the angel of the Lord stood in the way for an adversary\nagainst him."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Wait\na minute!  Why would the Lord be angry with Balaam for going, if He\ntold him it was all right to go?  Easy.  It wasn't all\nright for him to go.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That's\nright!  When we respond to the Fear of Man, instead of the expressed\ndesire of the Lord, we're going to pay the piper.  The Lord will even\norchestrate the circumstances which will take us into trouble, just to bypass\nour intellect, and give us the opportunity to respond to His Spirit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So\nwhat happened with Balaam?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

An\nangel that he couldn't see, stood in the way, and blocked the path of the\ndonkey.  The donkey sees the angel (now there's<\/b> a\ngraphic illustration for you!), turns and heads into an open\nfield.  Balaam starts beating the donkey, and it heads another\ndirection.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nangel of the Lord moves and stands again in the path of the donkey, right smack\nthrough some vineyards.  So the donkey, trying to avoid the angel,\nbangs up against a stone wall separating the vineyards, and crushes Balaam's\nfoot.  Balaam, in his fury, begins beating the donkey\nunmercifully.  Once more, the donkey heads down the path.  Once\nmore, the angel of the Lord stands in a place too narrow for the donkey to\npass.  This time, the donkey collapses, and dumps Balaam on the\nground.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Think\nBalaam has gotten the message, yet?  Nope!  See what the\nFear of Man does to a person!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Balaam\ntakes his staff and begins beating the donkey -- and the Lord opens the\ndonkey's mouth to speak.  <\/span>"What have I done to\ndeserve this,"<\/span> says\nthe donkey.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Says\nthe donkey?  Imagine Balaam's shock.  Who ever heard of an\nanimal speaking coherently and intelligently.  This is nothing less\nthan supernatural.  Think Balaam gets the\nmessage?  Nope.  See what the Fear of Man does to a person!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I\nkill thee."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Whoaa<\/span><\/span>!  Now,\nwait a minute, Balaam.  How stubborn and obstinate can you get?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"Then the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the\nangel of the Lord standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he\nbowed down his head, and fell flat on his face."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I'll\nbet!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"And Balaam said unto the angel of the Lord, 'I have\nsinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest<\/span> in the way\nagainst me: now, therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back\nagain."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Good\ngrief!  How stupid can you get?  This has to be the\nultimate in obstinacy and hard-headedness!  See what the Fear of Man\ndoes to a person!  Notice Balaam's words.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest<\/span> in the way against me."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

How\nobtuse!  One does not sin because the angel of the Lord is standing\nin the way.  One does not sin because they are beating their\nanimal.  And that is not justification for the beating of animals --\nit is just not the point.  They sin because they continue to press\nforward when the Lord has said, "No!"  They sin because\nthey prefer the rulership<\/span> of the Fear of Man, and\nrespond to an evil spirit instead of the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But\nwait!  It gets even worse!  <\/span>"Now,\ntherefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again<\/span>," says\nBalaam.  <\/span>"If it displease thee!?"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

To\neven consider making such a remark, and responding in this manner, demonstrates\nthat Balaam still intended to press forward -- in spite of the Lord's\nsupernatural manifestation of the angel with the sword, and the donkey speaking\nto him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nFear of Man is not reasonable!  Neither are those who are ruled by\nit.  They become irrational, obstinate, and blind!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So\nthe Lord let Balaam go on with Balak's<\/span>\n"honorable men" -- and let him become the epitome of the Fear of Man\nas he headed to his ultimate death (see Numbers 31:5) -- to be commemorated\nforever in Israel as: <\/span>"Balaam,"<\/span> whose\ncounsel <\/span>"caused the children of Israel to commit trespass against\nthe Lord in the matter of Peor<\/span>."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nwas Balaam's counsel?  Bear in mind that the counsel coming forth\nfrom Balaam was no longer that of Balaam, since he had yielded himself\ncompletely to that wicked spirit, The Fear of Man.  It was The Fear\nof Man doing the speaking.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then\nwhy was it referred to as <\/span>"the counsel of\nBalaam?"<\/span>  <\/span>Because it was Balaam\nwho gave himself over, willingly........Hmmmmm<\/span>.......check\nthat!  Stubbornly!  Rebelliously!  To\nfear.  See what the Fear of Man does to a person!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So\nwhat was Balaam's counsel?  To sacrifice unto Baal.  To eat\nthe things which were offered to idols.  To intermarry with people of\nanother race whom God had forbidden.  To commit adultery against the\nLord.  See what the Fear of Man does to a person!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\ncauses the worship of dead, dumb things.  It causes people to eat\nfrom the Tree of Knowledge, food which has been offered to -- and from -- the\nBeast (who is very much alive and functioning in our society today).<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\ncauses people to give attention and preeminence to things which distract one\nfrom a very personal love-relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.  It\ncauses men and women to marry interracially with those who have no real\nrelationship with the Lord -- under the guise that they "will lead them to\nChrist."  Suuuure<\/span>!  Or under\nno guise at all, but just because they have determined to do it, because\n"they want to."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

(Lest\nanyone misunderstand my intent, let me pause for a moment to clarify\n"interracially."  Those who have entered into a genuine\nlove-relationship with the Lord, and live a life of worship towards Him, become\nalien to this world, and all that is therein.  We become a "new\nrace\u201d a supernatural race, with supernatural abilities, living in a natural\nworld.  To intermarry with a race of "naturals" -- except\nwhen specifically directed to by the Lord -- is to bring compromise and\ndisaster.)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Got\nit?  But, we are not done, yet, with these pictures.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\ncase it has not already become obvious, The Fear of Man is a liar.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nthe first thing that happened to Adam and Eve when they were cast out of the\nGarden.  The Lord had said to Eve, <\/span>"I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in\nsorrow shalt<\/span> thou bring forth children...."<\/span>  Now we\nare told that the very first thing which happens when they are cast out of the\nGarden is, <\/span>"And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare\nCain...."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis not to take away from the intimacy intended by the Lord between husband and\nwife, but the very first thing Adam and Eve did was to seek after an intimate\nrelationship with one another.  Why?  They had\n"known" the Lord intimately.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

They\nwere now told by The Fear of Man that they had been rejected by the\nLord.  Adam and Eve believed that lie because it was easier to\nbelieve that God had rejected them than accepting the truth that they had\nrejected Him, choosing instead to be "in control" of their situation\nthrough the knowledge of "good" and\n"evil."  Thus, they tried to fill the gap created by the\n"rejection" by turning to one another -- in the midst of a sexual\nrelationship.  They tried to compensate for "rejection"\nwith sex.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And\nCain was the product of that "compensation for\nrejection."  Conception was<\/b> multiplied.  Not\nonly was a human being conceived, The Fear of Man was conceived in another\nhuman being, and he brought with him -- into Cain -- the Spirit of Rejection,\nand The Fear of Rejection.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

How\ndo we know this?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Simple!  What\nhappens to Cain when a brother -- Abel -- is born?  He is vying for\nthe acceptance and approval -- not only of his father, but -- of the\nLord.  When Abel's sacrifice is found acceptable and Abel finds the\napproval of the Lord, but Cain's sacrifice is not acceptable, and Cain hears\nthe reproof of the Lord, he, likewise, buys into "the Fear of\nRejection."  (The Lord wasn't rejecting Cain: it was just the\nsacrifice he was attempting to offer.)  There is no way he is going\nto stand by and allow Abel to be accepted while he is "rejected," so\nhe finds Abel and murders him!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now,\nthere will be no one to stand in the way of his receiving approval and\nacceptance!  So there!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Well,\nyes there was!  It was an entity who was conceived at the same time\nhe was -- an entity who was alive and well, and operating through him: The Fear\nof Rejection, who like his father, was also a liar.  And this liar\nwas going to make certain that Cain would never really hear the truth of what\nthe Lord was communicating.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nLord speaks to Cain, following his murder of Abel, and says, <\/span>"And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened\nher mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; when thou tillest<\/span> the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee\nher strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt<\/span> thou be\nin the earth."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Listen\nto Cain's response: <\/span>"Behold, thou<\/b> hast driven me out this day\nfrom the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid...."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

No\nHe hadn't.  The Lord had not driven Cain out from the face of the\nearth.  The Lord had not chosen to hide His face from\nCain.  Those were lies told by an unrepentant Spirit of Rejection,\nwhose whole purpose was to make Cain believe that he was being rejected by the\nLord.  All Cain had to do was to fall on his face before the Lord and\nrepent, and he would have experienced acceptance, forgiveness, and approval\nfrom the Lord.  But Cain believed the lies.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Gotta<\/span><\/span> leave it here for\ntoday.  We\u2019ll get back to the letter to Pergamos<\/span>\nnext week.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
