ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: THE PSALM 23 ADVENTURE, Part 10<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

By now you\u2019ve all gotten the understanding that the 23rd<\/sup> Psalm\nis anything but some trite Scripture to read to console folks at some\nfuneral.  This is a living Word from Holy Spirit!   It is both a\nprophetic declaration over our lives and a vivid picture of the processes that\nHoly Spirit uses to conform us to the image of the Lord Jesus Christ and to\ndevelop His character in us in such a way as to prepare us to<\/span><\/b> <\/span>\u201c<\/span><\/b>dwell in the House of the Lord forever.\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

At the same time, the unfolding processes that take place are\nvisible evidence to the world around us, our friends and our families, just\nwhat the Glory of the Lord looks like.  We ARE being changed in such a way\nas to reveal the Glory of the Lord.  The changes that develop in our lives\ncause those around us to say, \u201cGlory to God!\u201d<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That Glory is what clothed Adam and Eve in the Garden! \nWhen they were created, they could look at each other, and what they saw in and\nof each other was the presence, the makeup, the nature, the Glory of God.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I don\u2019t have to tell you that we all \u2013 as believers in Christ\nJesus \u2013 have much being developed in our lives, and a whole lot more to take\nplace, in order for that same Glory, that very presence of the Lord, along with\nHis nature and makeup to be revealed in us, to us, and through us to all those\naround.  The apostle Paul described what is taking place in us like this:<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

II\nCorinthians 3:18:<\/span><\/u><\/b> <\/span>But we\nall, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed\ninto the same image from glory to glory, even<\/i> as by the Spirit\nof the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You see it don\u2019t you?  This is an unfolding that takes\nplace, step by step, by step, by step, with His Glory evident in each\nsuccessive change that takes place!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\ncontinue where we were last week in describing the beginning place of the fall,\nand the that to which we MUST be restored!  What I\u2019m about to share will\nprobably hit some of you between the eyeballs, but this is a critical part of\nour restoration!  My sharing is not for the purpose of criticism, but it\nWILL destroy some doctrinal traditions.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One\ntree \u2014 one of ten genus of trees in the Garden\u2014 was reserved unto the\nLord.  The essence of His command to Adam and Eve was, \u201cYou can eat of any\nof the other genus of trees (including the Tree of Life), but I\u2019ve reserved One\nunto Myself.  You can have nine of the tree species, but the tenth is\nmine.  Do NOT eat of that tree!  If you do, it will change your\nentire being from that which I\u2019ve made you to be, and death will result.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\u2019s\na picture that many Christians just don\u2019t grasp.  The concept of the tenth\nbelonging to God, and the consequences that result when we ignore it get\nrelegated to the Law of Moses, and Christians fall into the trap of believing\nthat tithing was a legalistic command.  The corollary to that is that they\nbelieve (because the belief is rooted in both the Fear of Evil and the Fear of\nDeath) that we have been redeemed from the Law of Tithing.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\ntruth of the Word which Paul wrote to Timothy is clear:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I Timothy 6:10<\/span><\/u><\/b>:  <\/span>For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some\ncoveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through\nwith many sorrows.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

People\nwho continue to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil where it\ncomes to money and finances and grasp their money \u2014 which is rooted in the Fear\nof Death \u2014 suffer the consequence of continual need, always struggling to make\nends meet.  That part of their lives is suffering from the death that\ncomes of rationalizing over their needs, their bills, the emergencies that\narise in their lives, their health, etc.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

They\njust don\u2019t understand that when it comes to finances, if they eat of the Tree\nof Life and honor the principle that at least one tenth of their substance and\none tenth of their increase belongs to the Lord \u2014 that they don\u2019t have the\nright to decide how to use that tenth \u2014 life returns to their financial\nwell-being.  Once that revelation unfolds in their spirit, there is an\nenormous freedom in being able to give and let go of it, not trying to figure\nout how the ministry you\u2019ve given to is going to use the funds.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nhave to admit that there was a period in my life when I bought into the\nreligious lie that tithing was legalistic and that we are supposed to be\n\u201cgivers.\u201d  There\u2019s a distortion of God\u2019s Word if there ever was one! \nWe ARE supposed to be givers, but the \u201cgiving\u201d comes out of the love we have of\nthe Lord, the trust we have in His faithfulness, and the desire to see that His\npurposes and desires are met with our finances.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As\nlong as I lived that lie, we were always struggling to make ends meet. \nThe break from that came one day when Della \u2014 who happened to be traveling and\ndoing diamond shows across the Southeast \u2014 called me from Florida and told me\nthat God had instructed her to give a thousand dollars to a particular\ntelevision ministry.  We were in debt up to our eyeballs at the time.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Brother,\ndid I ever argue with the Lord!  It was one of the television ministries\nthat I distrusted with every bone of my being and giving what amounted to a\nsacrifice in the face of our need to THAT ministry grated against everything I\nknew and rationalized.  You see the problem, don\u2019t you?  I was\nfighting with \u201ceverything I knew\u201d and everything that was rational and could be\nfigured out with my thinking.  I had been eating from the Tree of the\nKnowledge of Good and Evil!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nLord spoke to me in the face of my distrust and said, \u201cI trust him,\u201d referring,\nof course, to that particular televangelist.  There was no getting around\nit, and so I obeyed that Word of the Lord.  Less than sixty days later,\nDella and I were out of debt \u2014 and the debt amounted to over a hundred thousand\ndollars.  The faithfulness of God in this event was a glaring picture for\nme of how wrong I had been when it came to finances.  It was an explosion\nof revelation for me.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Della\nand I began a regular program of tithing, but because of my previous stinginess\nwith God in the realm of finances (and I\u2019ll explain that momentarily) we\nstarted with 15% of our income, giving it according the principle revealed in\nMalachi 3:10 \u2014 the storehouse where we received our spiritual provision.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve\nalways been givers, but the giving inevitably came as we saw fit, NOT according\nto what Holy Spirit was directing, and certainly NOT to the \u201cstorehouse.\u201d\nFurthermore, I gave according to my financial picture \u2014 NOT out of faith, and\nNOT because I was eating of the Tree of Life where finances were\nconcerned.  When it came to the concept of tithing, I was being a miser\nwith God, withholding the tithe and justifying that behavior through my\n\u201cgiving.\u201d  \u201cGiving\u201d ALWAYS comes on top of the tithe to the Lord. \nAfter all, you can\u2019t \u201cgive\u201d what doesn\u2019t belong to you!  Giving can only\ncome after you have tithed the Holy Portion to the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nthe revelation of God\u2019s portion \u2014 the Holy Portion, if you will \u2014 has produced\nin us ever since is that we have increased our giving \u2014 even when we had bills\nto pay and the giving would leave us without enough money to pay those bills \u2014\nis a living demonstration of the second half of Malachi 3:10:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cProve me now herewith, saith<\/span> the LORD\nof hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a\nblessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nhave seen such multiplication as to defy rational explanation \u2014 multiplication\nwhich has allowed us to give more and more and more as God has directed so that\nwhat we have given in just the past few months\u2019 amounts to nearly 90% of our\nincome.  Our living and our needs are approximately 10%.  It is\ndeliverance from the Fear of Death and deliverance from any trace of the covetousness\nPaul describes in his letter to Timothy.  It is a complete reversal of\nstatus.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\na person comes to the place of letting go entirely of their finances in the\nface of personal needs and begins to eat of the Tree of Life, not only giving\nthe minimum 10% but experiencing the joy and the freedom of giving beyond the\nminimums (and this is something that God enables), surgery has been performed\nin their souls, their rational thinking, their reasoning minds.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But\ndeliverance from the Fear of Death where finances are concerned is only the tip\nof the iceberg.  As shared earlier, there is an innate knowledge in the\ncore of our beings that we were never designed to die, and the fact that\neverything in our society today pretty much decrees a \u201cnormal\u201d lifespan of\n70\u201480 years flies in the face of God\u2019s Word.  We have an oft-repeated\nclich\u00e9 that goes like this:<\/span> <\/span>The only things guaranteed in life are death\nand taxes \u2014 and not necessarily in that order<\/span><\/i><\/b>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As\na result, there are many activities that folks engage in to prove to themselves\nsubconsciously that they are not afraid of death.  Daredevil feats (we\nhave numerous television programs that dote on the extremes \u2014 and particularly\nextreme sports \u2014 that some people go to), smoking, drugs and hard liquor are just\na few examples of things that some people do or participate in without any\nconscious thought that they are resisting dying or the inevitability of death\nwhen in fact, the very acts of doing these things frequently results in death \u2014\npremature death!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Our\nTree-of-the-Knowledge-of-Good-and-Evil-based society is totally oblivious to\nthe concept that Jesus finished \u2014 once and for all \u2014 the curse of death and all\nthe curses that come from the previous consequences of eating of that\ntree.  The overwhelming majority of Christians today still believe that\nthey have an appointment with death.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nthey read in John 11:26,<\/span> <\/span>And\nwhosoever liveth<\/span> and believeth in me shall never die.\nBelievest<\/span> thou this?<\/span> <\/span>they\ndon\u2019t.  That was OK when Jesus walked and talked on the earth, but\nthat doesn\u2019t work today! <\/i> Oh, really?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nGreek word used here for \u201cdie\u201d is the word,<\/span> <\/span>apothnesko<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>, and it is the word\nfor literal, physical death.  Our religious society today has\nspiritualized this in their unbelief to mean that this is a reference to dying\nspiritually, but not physically.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nproof of Restoration is an adventure all by itself.  When David wrote,<\/span> <\/span>He restoreth<\/span> my soul<\/span>, he wasn\u2019t\nkidding! <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Some\nof you will remember my sharing the event that occurred when I was 41 years\nold.  Della and I had just moved into a new home in North Pole,\nAlaska.  Our nearest neighbor was a quarter mile away.  The phone\nservice had not been turned on yet, so we were pretty much isolated from\noutside communication.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nwas taking a shower when I was hit with a massive heart attacked that dropped\nme like a rock.  Della heard the crash and saw me lying on the floor\nhalfway out of the shower.  Some folks would call it an adrenalin rush,\nbut the truth is that Della was empowered supernaturally.  Those of you\nwho know us know that Della is easily half my size and weight even now. \nBack then she weighed even less, having recently come off a 40-day fast. \nThere was no way to call 9-1-1, and running to the neighbor\u2019s place a\nquarter-mile away was out of the question.  Fact is, I don\u2019t think that\nDella even considered any options.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

She\npicked me up, carried or dragged me into the bedroom and heaved me up onto the\nbed and commenced to speaking life back into my body.  My return was not\ninstantaneous!  Della stayed with it.  She was angry at Satan for his\nattempt to take my life, and particularly to steal me from her and our\nrelationship together.  For something like 15 to 20 minutes, she continued\nto speak and command life to come back into me in the name of Jesus.  She\nhad a tiger by the tail and wasn\u2019t letting go!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nlife returned into my body and I came to, Della was straddling me, her fist\nupraised and shouting at the top of her voice, \u201cYOU WILL COME BACK IN THE NAME\nOF JESUS!\u201d  I saw her fist coming down and startled her by reaching up and\ngrabbing her arm lest she hit me with that fist.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve\nhad lots of laughs about it and the dynamics of what occurred in the 33 years\nsince that took place, but there is no doubt that there was an unfolding of\nrevelation that took place as a result.  I\u2019d had two experiences of\nraising the dead years before that took place, but it just wasn\u2019t the same as\nbeing raised myself.  It brought a whole new understanding of the\nrevelation that John saw and heard Jesus say when he wrote:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/u><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Revelation 1:18:<\/span><\/u><\/b>  <\/span>I am<\/i> He that liveth<\/span>,\nand was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of\nhell and of death.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Satan\nno longer has the power of death, nor the ability to take our lives against the\nwill and purposes of God.  For those who can enter into this revelation\nand understanding, we have been delivered from the curse of death, and the Fear\nof Death has no power nor authority in us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

THAT\nis some revelation!  It is restoration, and it is life-changing!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
