ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: THE PSALM 23 ADVENTURE, Part 8<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Have you ever considered "Pentecost?"  Do you\nrealize what this represents?  Pentecost -- representing 50 days -- began\nwith Moses receiving the Word of the Lord on Mount Sinai.  God revealed\nHimself to Moses in ways that the sub-natural world treats as\n"supernatural."<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When we read in the KJV, for example, that God showed Moses His\n"hinder parts," we don't realize that the Hebrew terminology is using\nmetaphorical terms to express "the past (from Creation) up to the\npresent."  Understand?  God was revealing the whole of Creation\nto Moses.  He was displaying His plan and purpose from the beginning to\nhave a people for Himself -- the family of God!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What was revealed to Moses there in the mountain was a prophetic\npicture of redemption.  Moses saw the temple of God and was given the plan\nfor a portable copy of it (the Tabernacle) as a visual prophecy for\nIsrael.  Divided into sections with "the outer court," the\n"holy place" and the "holy of holies," it became a graphic\nrepresentation of salvation and redemption, followed by the place of revelation\nand intense desire for communion with God, and -- ultimately -- the marriage\ncovenant between God and His Beloved.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Because of his intense love for the Lord, David was given much\nof the same kind of revelation.  He saw the unfolding adventure that God\nhas for all who will commit unreservedly to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. \nHe had a revelation of "Pentecost" when he wrote, "<\/span><\/b>He leadeth<\/span> me beside the still waters<\/span>."<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\npick up, then, with where we left off last week.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Speaking\nin tongues is the evidence that you have given up the most stubborn part of\nyour being \u2014 your tongue \u2014 to the flow of Holy Spirit within and through you.\nAgain, this is only the beginning.  Now it becomes necessary to open up to\na daily flow of this river within.  The more we open ourselves up to this\ndaily flow, the more a new dimension of Holy Spirit begins to come alive in our\nbeings.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\u2019ve\nheard me say this before, and I\u2019ll say it again!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nhave been designed and destined to be supernatural beings in a sub-natural\nworld.  We have been designed to become \u201cnaturally supernatural\u201d and\n\u201csupernaturally natural.\u201d  What that means is that we have been designed\nfor the Glory of the Lord to be on display in us!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nfact that Holy Spirit \u201cleads\u201d us beside the still waters is a testimony to the\nfact that He does not compel us to drink.  On the contrary, this MUST be a\nfree-will decision.  If He were to force this or \u201cmake us\u201d we would\nessentially become automatons.  What the Lord is and has been looking for\nin a people are those who choose Him, choose His heart\u2019s desire, choose His\ndestiny in us \u2014 WITHOUT COMPROMISE OR EFFORT TO ALTER IN ANY WAY!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Think\nabout the Day of Pentecost for a minute.  Just as Pentecost occurred for\nMoses and Israel 50 days after they were delivered from Egypt, the Day of\nPentecost occurred 50 days after Jesus' resurrection and redemption and\nsalvation made available for "whosoever will."  The disciples\nwere all gathered together for one purpose.  Jesus had instructed them to\n\u201ctarry\u201d \u2014 to wait as long as it took \u2014 until they were literally invested,\nclothed, arrayed inwardly and outwardly with Holy Spirit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nGreek text of Luke 24:49 uses the word, <\/span>enduo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>, to describe what\nJesus was saying.  This word describes \u201ca sinking into\u201d in the sense of\nbeing literally enveloped by, covered over, so that this is what everyone sees\n(including yourself) when they see you. (Hence, the term, "the Baptism of\nthe Holy Spirit.")  Thus, Jesus was making it clear that there would\nbe no moving forward, no commissioning, no anointing, no empowering to do what\nHe demonstrated to them during the years that they followed Him until they were\n\u201cendued,\u201d clothed, immersed with<\/span>\n<\/span>dunamis<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span>\u2014\nstrength, power, supernatural ability \u2014 coming directly from God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\u2019ll\nremember that Jesus made it clear at the Last Supper that He had to depart so\nthat Holy Spirit could come as our Paraklete<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis an interesting word coming from the Greek,<\/span>\n<\/span>parakletos<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>, which is a compound\nword.  In its widest sense, this word means: a helper, aider, succourer<\/span>, an assistant.  In this application, the\nword describes one who leads us to a wider and deeper knowledge of the Truth,\none who gives the divine strength needed to undergo the trials and persecutions\nwe will endure.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Perhaps\nthe best and most illustrative application of this word would be Hegai<\/span>, who prepared Esther over a three-and-a-half year\nperiod (seven times as long as the norm) to be prepared to become the\ncounterpart of the King.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme pause here to share a personal experience that took place when I went to\nHeaven for the first time.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

After\nnearly three full days of walking and talking with the Lord, meeting and\ntalking with the patriarchs, David, the prophets and the apostles, Jesus led me\nto the site of a great palace that was obviously under construction.  What\nI saw at first glance was a great domed palace that defied description.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As\nwe approached the main entrance I saw my name over the doorway.  I said to\nJesus, \u201cLord, what is this place?\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

His\nanswer was, \u201cThis is your life.  This is what I am making of you, and this\nis what I am building for you.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nI stepped through the entry way, there were hundreds, if not more than a\nthousand, workmen engaged in their various trades, cutting, engraving,\nbuilding, shaping with gold and other precious metals, doing inlay with\nprecious stones.  It was something that is still hard to describe, even to\nthis day, but glorious to behold.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

My\ninitial reaction was awe, but it was years later that I finally began to\nunderstand what I saw.  These were the people the Lord was going to bring\ninto my life to do the cutting, the engraving, the shaping, the inlay work,\netc., of His character and nature in my life.  It might not be comfortable\nat the time, but what He was going to bring in me was all of the changes and\ndevelopment I needed to become that living expression of His Glory.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\u2019ve\noften heard Christians express shock and horror at the idea of persecution, trials\nand \u201ctribulation,\u201d and they say, \u201cWhy, God wouldn\u2019t do that!  He is a\nloving God!  He wouldn\u2019t bring pain and suffering into your life.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\ncatch is that God doesn\u2019t do that.  The Enemy, Satan, does it to us. \nWe do it to ourselves by our still-reactionary flesh wanting to do the things\nthat please our fleshly desires and we wind up suffering the consequences\nthereof.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Our\nspirits may be \u201csaved\u201d and redeemed, but we have to work that in our\nflesh.  Hence, Paul\u2019s instruction to \u201cwork out our salvation with fear and\ntrembling.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Here\u2019s\nthe full quote from Philippians 4:12-13:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my\npresence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation\nwith fear and trembling.<\/span>  <\/sup><\/span>For it is God which worketh<\/span> in you\nboth to will and to do of his<\/i> good pleasure.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Do\nyou see the key word in Paul\u2019s instruction?  The word is \u201cobeyed.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nfolks fail to understand is that the pain and suffering is the reaction of our\nflesh to the necessary dealings of God to bring about His Glory in us.  We\nhave a bad habit of not obeying.  It\u2019s not that God is doing it to\nus.  Where the results will not end in our destruction, he permits these\nthings as a part of our \u201cworking out our salvation.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One\nof the things I\u2019ve learned throughout the years is that God is a whole lot less\nconcerned with the reactions of our flesh or our emotions than He is in the\ndevelopment of His character and nature in us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nwill see this a few steps later, but as He leads us in the paths of\nrighteousness, He is doing this for His sake!  It is His name, His<\/span> <\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>, His character and nature, His makeup,\nHis personality, His love, His power and His authority that is at stake here!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nsaid, let\u2019s move on.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nGod\u2019s economy, there is no room for those who decide what they will accept, and\nwhat they will reject.  If we are going to move forward into the\ndimensions that God has for us, those dimensions ONLY come by our total\nacquiescence to EVERY part of His leading!  Do you understand?  It is\nour total responsiveness, our total obedience that moves us forward.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Do\nyou remember what Paul wrote of Jesus?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Hebrews\n5:8-9: <\/span> <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things\nwhich he suffered<\/u>; <\/span> <\/span><\/sup>And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal\nsalvation unto all them that obey him<\/u>;\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\namplify this a bit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Despite the fact that Jesus was a full-grown and mature son, He\nlearned submission to Father by and through the things he underwent \u2014 the\nthings he experienced, both with positive and negative consequences \u2014 and as a\nresult [of his proper responses to both positive and negative experiences]\ndeveloped the full maturity and completeness intended, becoming (in the process)\nthe very cause and source of everlasting and (sum of all the) unending benefits\nand blessings to all who hear, obey and submit to Him [and to His\nWord].   <\/span> <\/span>(Hebrews 5:8-9, RAC Translation &\nAmplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Maybe\nI\u2019ve taken you way down a rabbit trail to get here, but are you seeing and\ngaining a greater understanding of why<\/span>\n<\/span>\u201cHe leadeth<\/span> me beside the still\nwaters\u201d<\/span>?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He\nwon\u2019t make you drink.  You have to decide that you want all the life, the\nnourishment, the sustenance AND the dimension that will open up as a result of\ndrinking these waters.  You have to know with every fiber of your\nexistence that this is an absolute requirement for the spiritual universe that\nawaits, the adventures that accompany that universe and the personal costs that\ngo with it.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nhave to choose to drink of these waters.  You must choose the absolute\nyielding of your flesh, your tongue and your natural desires to Holy Spirit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Without\nthat decision to choose and total responsiveness to Holy Spirit, this is where\nyou cease to grow in your relationship in Jesus Christ.  There will be no\ntrue intimacy in and with Him.  There will be no real sense of His very\nheartbeat, His heart\u2019s desire.  There will be no communion.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme put this another way.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Yes,\nyou will be led by the Lord.  Yes, you will walk in paths of\nrighteousness.  Yes, you will experience testing, trial, tribulation and\npersecution.  What you will NOT have is that dimension of personal union\nwith the Lord that ONLY comes by drinking from the waters of Holy Spirit. \nYour spiritual life will be dry \u2014 Word-based, perhaps \u2014 but lacking the\nrevelation that comes in this dimension.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

To\na large extent, you will still be eating of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good\nand Evil instead of the Tree of Life.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nyou will lack is the ability to flow supernaturally in the tongues of men and\nof angels and tear down the strongholds of the Enemy, to pray according to the\nWill of God without your mind and your reasoning getting in the way, to declare\nand decree with Father\u2019s authority, establishing and expanding the Kingdom of\nGod.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nagain, what John saw in Revelation 22:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as\ncrystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.<\/span>  <\/sup><\/span>In the midst of the main\nstreet coming from the throne, and on either bank of the river, grew the tree\nof life, bearing twelve different kinds of fruits, a different kind of fruit\nfor each month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. <\/span> <\/span>(RAC\nTranslation & Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Do\nyou see where that river comes from?  Do you see what David was showing\nus?  Do you see \u201cHe leadeth<\/span> me beside the still\nwaters?\u201d  Do you know where the still waters are?  They are in the\npools, the eddies at different points along the river. Why do you think that\nthis is all a part of responding to the Lordship of Jesus Christ?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Lots\nof questions, I know, but as you see in what John writes, this river flows\nright from the Throne of God and the Lamb \u2014 the Lord Jesus Christ.  With\nthis river comes the authority of the Throne,  With this river comes a\ndimension of the Spirit of God that just doesn\u2019t come anywhere else.  The\nbest part of this river is that it flows right through the Tree of Life.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve\nmentioned this before, but the seven letters that open up the book of\nRevelation describe the transformation that takes place as we overcome. \nThe first of those letters is written to Ephesus, and without digging into that\nwhole letter, the sum and substance of it is overcoming the Tree of the\nKnowledge of Good and Evil \u2014 overcoming the sin-developed instinct to\nrationalize, to think things through when it comes to trying to figure out\nspiritual issues \u2014 and even natural issues.  The promise given to the overcomer<\/span> is that they will have restored access to the\nTree of Life.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

NO\nONE can eat of the Tree of Life AND eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good\nand Evil at the same time.  The two just don\u2019t mix!  Either we pursue\nthe presence of the Lord and direct revelation from Him (a revelation with\ntranscends every realm of living), or we continue just trying to figure out\nspiritual things from reading the Word and calculating what God is up to.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nRiver of Life is where we MUST drink.  The River of Life is what we have\nbeen led to!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
