ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: THE PSALM 23 ADVENTURE, Part 1<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Some 40 plus years ago, the Lord began unfolding for me the 23rd<\/sup> Psalm\nin a revelatory way.  As usual, when you keep the ears of your spirit\nattentive to Holy Spirit, He continues to unfold new revelation and peel away\nlayer after layer after layer of understanding in the depths of God\u2019s\nWord.  It has always been somewhat of a source of frustration when I\nsee preachers who use the 23rd<\/sup> Psalm at\nfunerals.  This is not a Psalm for dying!  This is a Psalm\nfor living!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What I understood about the 23rd<\/sup> Psalm 40 years\nago, and what I see today have changed dramatically.  That doesn\u2019t\nmean that what I knew 40 years ago was invalid, it\u2019s just that it was only the\nfirst layer of many.  Where I was in God 40 years ago, and where I am\ntoday, are two distinctly different places.  The longer you walk with\nthe Lord, the more you will see and understand of Him, His principles, His\nleading and His purpose in your life.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Over the coming months, it is my hope and desire to share with\nyou what I\u2019ve come to see as a prophecy and a dimension in God that all of us\nare destined for.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nhave a lot of ground to cover today, so let\u2019s take it from the beginning.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Have\nyou ever paid attention to the sequence of the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th\nPsalms?  Ever notice how the 22nd Psalm was prophetic of Jesus' death on\nthe Cross?  Matter of fact, Jesus even quoted Psalm 22 on the Cross.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nPsalm (NOT the 23rd<\/sup>!) is a picture of death and dying.  It is a\ncry for deliverance from destruction.  You\u2019ll excuse me for saying so, but\nit even sounds like a lot of Christians today moaning and bemoaning their state.  Even\nso, David ends this Psalm with a declaration of faith and trust in God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Skip\nover to Psalm 24, and you have a dramatically different picture.  Instead\nof beginning, <\/span>"My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?"<\/span> <\/span>this\nPsalm kicks off with a joyful declaration: <\/span>"The\nearth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell\ntherein."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then\nit wraps up with, <\/span>"Lift up your heads, O ye gates, and be ye lift up, ye\neverlasting doors; and the King of Glory shall come in.  Who is this King\nof Glory?  The Lord mighty in battle."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\na contrast!  What was it that took David from the picture of death and\ndespair to the overcoming and joyful knowledge of the Lord as the King of\nGlory?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nwas a process.  That process (the New Testament Greek uses a word to\ndescribe it: thlipsis<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> -- <\/span>meaning, pressure, trials,\nafflictions, tribulation<\/u>) begins with a declaration in the midst of the\ndespair, <\/span><\/span>"The\nLord is my Shepherd,"<\/span> <\/span>and concludes\nwith, <\/span>"And I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis a Psalm to live by!  This is a Psalm that outlines the process from\ndefeat to absolute, triumphant victory.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nare 15 separate and unique steps described that take us from the initial\ndeclaration <\/span>"The Lord is My Shepherd" <\/span>to <\/span>"I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever."<\/span>  <\/span>Each one of those steps outlines the working of God in our\nlives to bring us from the birth of our relationship in Jesus Christ to the\nkind of princely maturity that allows us to "live in the House of the\nLord" as a grown up, mature, son or daughter of God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\n23rd Psalm could be described as a prophetic picture of Revelation 2 and 3 \u2014 the\nseven letters written to the seven Ekklesias<\/span>.  It\nis a revelation of the stages of overcoming that bring us to the place where we\nhear the Lord say,<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cHim that overcometh<\/span> will I make a\npillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write\nupon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new\nJerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon\nhim my new name.\u201d<\/span>  <\/span>(Revelation 3:12-13)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Does\nthat sound like, <\/span>\u201cI shall dwell in the House of the Lord forever\u201d<\/span>?  <\/span>Thought so!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nhas always been a source of amazement and puzzlement to me how preachers use\nthe 23rd Psalm at funerals.  This is not a Psalm to die by!  This is\na Psalm to live by!  This is a Psalm that outlines the process from defeat,\ndespair and dying to absolute, triumphant victory.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nare 15 separate and unique steps described that take us from <\/span>"The Lord is My Shepherd"<\/span> <\/span>to <\/span>"I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever<\/span>.<\/span><\/i><\/b>"<\/span>  <\/span>Each one of those\nsteps outlines the working of God in our lives to bring us from the birth and\ndeclaration of our relationship in Jesus Christ to the kind of princely\nmaturity that allows us to "live in the House of the Lord" as a grown\nup, mature, son or daughter of God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Before\nwe get to the initial declaration, let\u2019s lay a few foundational\nsteps.  We\u2019ve quoted these verses before in a somewhat different\ncontext, but you\u2019ll see how they apply.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ruin, pestilence, disease and death (emotional, mental and\nphysical) and freshness, vitality, strength, restoration and the veritable\nbreath and life of God are in the power, means, direction and charge of the\ntongue; and they who understand, have revelation of and utilize it [as an\nintegral part of their existence] shall see, experience, and partake [as one\nfeasts at a table] of the rewards (or curses) and results thereof.<\/span>  <\/span>(Proverbs 18:21, RAC Translation and Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 12:37<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>"For\nby thy words thou shalt<\/span> be justified, and by thy\nwords thou shalt<\/span> be condemned."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Watch\nhow this verse comes out when you amplify it.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\u2019s because of the body of the words that are in you \u2014 the\nthoughts and intents of your heart \u2014 resulting in that which comes out of your\nmouth, that renders you just, free, innocent and righteous; by the same token\nthat body of words that occupies your thoughts and the intents of your heart\nand manifests itself in your speech will judge, condemn and pronounce you\nguilty.<\/span> <\/span>(Matthew 12:37, RAC Translation and\nAmplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Romans 10:8-11<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span> "But\nwhat saith<\/span> it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy\nmouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That\nif thou shalt<\/span> confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus<\/u>,\nand shalt<\/span> believe in thine<\/span>\nheart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt<\/span>\nbe saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with\nthe mouth confession is made unto salvation<\/u>. For the scripture saith<\/span>, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed<\/span>.<\/i><\/b>"<\/span> <\/span>(Emphasis, mine)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

With\nthat said, let\u2019s take a look at how the 23rd Psalm begins.  This\ndeclaration sets the stage for everything that follows.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Yowd<\/span><\/span> Hey Vav<\/span> Hey is MY ruler, my governor, my\nfriend, my companion, my protector \u2014 the one who tends to me, who leads me to\nthat which will nourish, strengthen, and cause me to grow and prosper.<\/span>  <\/span>(Psalm 23:1a: RAC Translation & Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nbeginning place of all victory<\/b> (and I do mean ALL) in our\nlives is that place where we decide to totally surrender our lives to the Lord\nJesus Christ.  That decision comes as an act of our will, but it is\npreceded by faith that Jesus Christ is who He said He is.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Believing\nin our hearts is one thing, however.  If it remains something in our\nheart, but we never utter that belief with our lips, no change ever<\/b> gets\nenacted.  I can't tell you how many so-called "secret"\nChristians I've run into throughout the years.  They've somehow come up\nwith the cockamamie idea that it's OK to believe it, but that -- in order to\nsurvive in today's politically correct world -- they don't have to actually say\nso in public.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Sorry,\nbut it doesn't work like that.  There are absolutely no changes in our\nlives that take place without words first being spoken.  In fact, it is\nsafe to say that nothing ever transpires without it first being spoken out of\nour mouths, or out of the mouth of someone else whose words we hear.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ever\nnotice how the Enemy of our souls, Satan, takes advantage of that Law to trap\nus?  Ever notice how the phraseology, the "fad words" in our daily\nconversation, the catch-phrases of the day invert, contaminate or overturn the\nreal meaning of the words we speak?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme give you some quick examples.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

1. <\/span><\/b>My feet are killing me.<\/span><\/i><\/b>  <\/span><\/b>No they aren't!  Not unless you've\ncontracted the same disease that Amaziah<\/span>, the King of\nJudah, contracted in his feet (See II Chronicles 16:12-13)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

2. <\/span><\/b>I'm just dying to meet him (or\nher)! <\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>Then you'd better\navoid him (or her) at all costs if meeting them will cost your life.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

3. <\/span><\/b>Man, he's bad! <\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>This is one of the most egregious examples of inverting the\nmeaning of a word when you want to describe someone as really being a great\nperson.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

4. <\/span><\/b>She's just gone bananas. <\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>How is it that we take the name of a healthy, nutritious\nfruit and turn it into something representing irrational or insane behavior?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nsee what I'm getting at, don't you?  It is a trick of Satan to get us to\nuse words that really mean something the total opposite of what we actually\nintend to say \u2013 and then allow the words we actually speak to backfire on us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If\nwe don't guard the words that come out of our mouths, we can catapult ourselves\ninto situations that bring disaster, death or destruction -- and then we wonder\nhow in the world we ever got there and why such things are happening to us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thus\nthe beginning place of deliverance, the beginning place of salvation, the\nbeginning place of reversing a life of poverty and constant need, the beginning\nplace of health and strength, the beginning place of healthy relationships with\nfamily, with friends, the beginning place of all that is positive, all that\npromotes life is a declaration, a decree, a command, a confession that comes\nforth from our lips.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nconfession is nothing more and nothing less than, <\/span>"Yowd<\/span> Hey Vav<\/span>\nHey is<\/b> my Shepherd!" <\/span> <\/span>That is the\nconfession that says, Jesus Christ is MY Lord; Jesus Christ is MY\nShepherd: My life is now HIS, lock, stock and barrel!<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Got\nit?  It is that place of decision that comes in the core of one's being\nthat says,<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I believe that Jesus Christ is who He said He is.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I believe that He IS Lord of Lords and King of Kings.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I believe, and now take, and confess that He is MY Lord!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I believe that He loves me!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I believe that He died for me on the Cross.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I believe that God raised Him from the dead.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I believe that the curse of the Law and the curse of death I\nhave lived under was broken for me by His death and resurrection.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nhas, for many years, always troubled me that preachers and evangelists have so\nover-simplified the salvation message, turning it into a "fire insurance"\nmessage.  Get saved,<\/i> they preach, so you won't go\nto Hell.<\/i><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Bahh<\/span><\/span>, Humbug!!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Salvation\nis not just about not going to Hell.  Salvation is not even about going to\nHeaven.  If you die, and you've made Jesus Christ your Lord and Shepherd,\nthere just isn't any other place to go than Heaven.  Hell isn't even a\nconsideration.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Nope. \nThis is not a message about Heaven and Hell.  This is the turning place\nfrom death to life.  This is the turning place from sickness to\nhealth.  The is the turning place from disease to healing.  This is\nwhere we begin the change from weakness to strength.  This is the\nplace where we are empowered with authority over who and all that Satan is and\ndoes.  This is the place where we transition from a life of constant need\nto a life of constant abundance.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

How\nwas it that Jesus put it?  <\/span>"All power in heaven\nand earth is given unto me.  Go ye, therefore...!"  <\/span>(Matthew 28:18-19)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/a><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Or how about, <\/span>"Behold, I give unto\nyou power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the\nenemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you."<\/span> <\/span>(Luke\n10:19)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\napostle Paul said it like this: <\/span>"That if thou shalt<\/span> confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus<\/u>, and shalt<\/span> believe in thine<\/span> heart that\nGod hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt<\/span> be\nsaved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with\nthe mouth confession is made unto salvation<\/u>."<\/span>  (Romans\n10:9-10)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nsee it, don't you?  Just as David began with his declaration, his\nconfession, "The Lord is MY Shepherd," and believed it in the core of\nhis being, change began in his life.  Change begins in our life, too.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
