ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: THE PSALM 23 ADVENTURE, Part 7<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Good Morning!  Did you realize that this is going to be the\nbest day of your life thus far?  Expect it!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Over the years people have known me for that phrase, but when\nyou realize that "<\/span><\/b>this is the day that the Lord hath\nmade: we will be glad and rejoice in it<\/span>," each day we walk with the\nLord just gets better and better and better!  There is a fascinating aside\nto the understanding of the "day of the Lord" or the "day that\nthe         Lord" makes.  Each time you\nsee those phrases in Scripture, it represents a day when God executes judgment\nagainst the enemies of His people.  It represents God arising in defense\nof His chosen and beloved.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There's another reason why I use that phrase.  It is the\nconfession of my mouth.  The words that I speak are creative.  They\nare spoken in agreement with what God has said -- and is saying! We were\ncreated in the image and likeness of God.  Whenever God speaks, whatever\nHe speaks IS.  It is impossible for it not to be.  He is the\nCreator.  When He spoke Creation came into being.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now, perhaps, you begin to understand why David continually\nspoke -- in agreement -- the Word of God.  He meditated on it.  We\npick up, therefore, with where we left off last week looking at the confessions\n-- the agreements with God -- that David made just in the 119th Psalm.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

David had been\nimmersed -- and immersed himself -- in the Torah his whole life.  Those\nbooks of the Law were the ONLY books available in his day, and he revered it \u2014\nNOT as the Mosaic Law, but as the Law of God!  Watch how he expresses\nhimself!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 119:1<\/span><\/u><\/b>:  <\/span><\/b>Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the Law of the\nLord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 119:9-11<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/b> <\/span>Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse\nhis way? by taking heed thereto<\/i> according to thy word. \nWith my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy\ncommandments.  Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin\nagainst thee.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 119:16<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/b> <\/span>I will delight myself in thy\nstatutes: I will not forget thy word.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 119:18<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/b> <\/span>Open thou mine eyes, that I may\nbehold wondrous things out of thy law.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 119:26-28<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/b> <\/span>I have declared my ways, and thou\nheardest me: teach me thy statutes.  Make me to understand the way of thy\nprecepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works.  My soul melteth for\nheaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 119:33-35<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/b> <\/span>Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy\nstatutes; and I shall keep it unto<\/i> the end.  Give me\nunderstanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my<\/i> whole\nheart.  Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I\ndelight.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 119:41-44<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/b> <\/span>Let thy mercies come also unto me, O\nLORD, even<\/i> thy salvation, according to thy word.  So\nshall I have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me: for I trust in thy\nword.  And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; for I have\nhoped in thy judgments.  So shall I keep thy law continually forever and\never.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 119:57-64<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/b> <\/span>Thou art<\/span><\/i> <\/span>my portion, O LORD: I have said that\nI would keep thy words.  I entreated thy favour with my<\/i> whole\nheart: be merciful unto me according to thy word.  I thought on my ways,\nand turned my feet unto thy testimonies.  I made haste, and delayed not to\nkeep thy commandments. The bands of the wicked have robbed me: but I have not\nforgotten thy law. At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of\nthy righteous judgments.  I am<\/i> a companion of all them<\/i> that\nfear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts.  The earth, O LORD, is full\nof thy mercy: teach me thy statutes.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 119:97-104<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/b> <\/span>O how love I thy law! it is<\/i> my\nmeditation all the day.  Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser\nthan mine enemies: for they are<\/i> ever with me.  I have\nmore understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my\nmeditation.  I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy\nprecepts.  I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep\nthy word.  I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught\nme.  How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter<\/i> than\nhoney to my mouth!  Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I\nhate every false way.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 119:105-112<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/b> <\/span>Thy word is<\/i> a lamp\nunto my feet, and a light unto my path.  I have sworn, and I will\nperform it<\/i>, that I will keep thy righteous judgments.  I am\nafflicted very much: quicken me, O LORD, according unto thy word.  Accept,\nI beseech thee, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O LORD, and teach me thy\njudgments.  My soul is<\/i> continually in my hand: yet do I\nnot forget thy law.  The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not\nfrom thy precepts.  Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever:\nfor they are<\/i> the rejoicing of my heart.  I have inclined\nmine heart to perform thy statutes alway, even unto<\/i> the end.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And THAT is just a\nfraction of David\u2019s expressions of love for the Lord and love for the\nWord!  You\u2019ll recognize some of these passages as songs that we sing from\ntime to time.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

David was consumed\nwith a thirst for the Word of the Lord.  As I have already shared with\nyou, when I sat with him and we talked for hours on end, his desire \n       for the God\u2019s Word, his desire to please the\nLord manifested in the songs he sang by the hour.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\u2019ll recall that\nthis was firmly established in his nature, character and daily behavior when he\nwas called as a \u201cminstrel\u201d to come and play in the court of King Saul. \nThe Word was so ingrained in him and in his music that when he played, evil\nspirits fled.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

THAT, folks, is the\npower of the Word \u2014 whether that power is expressed through our lives, through\nthe words we speak, or through the music that flows from our being under the\ndirection and inspiration of the Holy Spirit.  We MUST BE THE WORD MADE\nFLESH!  And the ONLY way that can happen is that we first ingest it, then\ndigest it into our beings!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now, do you understand, "<\/span>He maketh me to lie\ndown in green pastures<\/span>?"  Good, then watch what comes next.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In John 4, we read\nof an event that took place as Jesus was in Samaria.  A woman of poor\nrepute comes to Jacob\u2019s well at mid-day to draw water and sees Jesus sitting at\nthe well.  Here\u2019s how the exchange between them is recorded.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 4:7-13<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span> <\/span>There cometh a woman of Samaria to\ndraw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.<\/span>  <\/sup><\/span>(For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)<\/span>  <\/sup><\/span>Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, \u201cHow is it that thou,\nbeing a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have\nno dealings with the Samaritans.\u201d<\/span>  <\/sup><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus answered and said unto her, \u201cIf thou knewest the gift of\nGod, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have\nasked of him, and he would have given thee living water.\u201d<\/span>  <\/sup><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The woman saith unto him, \u201cSir, thou hast nothing to draw with,\nand the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cArt thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well,\nand drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus answered and said unto her, \u201cWhosoever drinketh of this\nwater shall thirst again:<\/span>  <\/sup><\/span>But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall\nnever thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of\nwater springing up into everlasting life.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Have you ever given\nconsideration to exactly what Jesus was saying and what He was revealing? \nDavid understood this revelation when he wrote in the 23rd Psalm,<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cHe leadeth me beside the still waters.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This is a place\nthat we are led to \u2014 NOT a place we are compelled to go, and either are we\nbeing compelled to drink.  Jesus was making it clear that \u201cwhosoever\u201d\nwould drink, would receive in return a<\/span> <\/span>\u201cwell of water springing up\u201d<\/span> <\/span>within them that would literally change their lives.  They\nwould NEVER be thirsty again.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

How could that\nbe?  What was Jesus referring to?  Remember where we left off in<\/span> <\/span>\u201cHe maketh me to lie down in green\npastures\u201d<\/span>?  We were compelled to focus on the Word.  We were\ncompelled to KNOW the Word Himself, to thirst after it, to eat of it until it\nfilled every nook and cranny of our lives.  THAT was just the foundation\nthat had to come before we could be led to the still waters.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Before we move on,\nconsider what John sees in Revelation:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Revelation 22:1-2:<\/span><\/u><\/b>  <\/span>And he showed me a\npure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of\nGod and of the Lamb.<\/span>  <\/sup><\/span>In the midst of the main street coming from the throne, and on\neither bank of the river, grew the tree of life, bearing twelve different kinds\nof fruits, a different kind of fruit for each month; and the leaves of the tree\nwere for the healing of the nations. <\/span> <\/span>(RAC Translation & Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Are you seeing the\n\u201cwaters\u201d that Jesus was referring to?  These waters feed the Tree of\nLife!  To make Jesus Lord and Shepherd of our life, we MUST depart from\nthe Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.  We MUST begin to eat of the\nTree of Life.  Before that can happen in the most practical sense, we have\nto move beyond just eating of the Word to that place where the Word now becomes\nrevelation in our beings.  It is no longer words that our mind can\nunderstand, or that our reasoning can deal with.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Revelation is that\nwhich makes the Word come alive in us.  Revelation is that which causes\nthe Word to spring up in our beings.  Revelation is that which causes us\nto become the Word made flesh in the most demonstrative way.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Take a look at\nanother revelation that David shares in the very first of the Psalms:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 1:1-3<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span> <\/span>Blessed is<\/i> the man\nthat walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of\nsinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is<\/i> in\nthe law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.  And\nhe shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his\nfruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth\nshall prosper.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That brings us to\nthe central theme of this discussion,<\/span> <\/span>He leadeth me beside the still waters.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In the previous\nstep, we were compelled to lie down in the green pastures.  The Lord was\nmaking it clear that without the foundation of His Word, there is no going\nforward in Him.  There are many folks who think that if they hear the\n\u201cvoice\u201d of God speaking to them, that\u2019s all they need.  The problem with\nthat assumption is that without the foundation of the Word laid firmly in their\nlives, they have no guideline, no means by which they can measure the \u201cvoice\u201d\nthey are listening to.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\u2019m not quibbling\nwith folks who hear the voice of God and respond to it.  Believe me when I\nsay that this becomes critical to us as we continue on in our growth and\nrelationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What I\u2019m saying is\nthat if indeed what we hear is coming from Holy Spirit speaking in us, it will\nbe firmly and authoritatively backed by the written Word.  Remember, the\nWord of the Lord is ALWAYS affirmed out of the mouth of two or more witnesses! \nANYTHING that God speaks to us directly will be backed up in His written\nWord.  If what we hear cannot be supported by the written Word, what we\nare hearing is a Spirit of Error, and that spirit is trying to lead us down the\nprimrose path.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

OK, I kind of started\nrunning down a rabbit trail there, but it was necessary before we continue.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Notice the big\ndifference in the choice of words Holy Spirit uses here.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

a.  He \u201cmakes\nus<\/u>\u201d to lie down in green pastures.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

b.  He \u201cleadeth\nus<\/u>\u201d beside the still waters.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This is no\nmistake!  Let me say this again.  When it comes to the foundation of\nthe Word in our lives, we cannot continue in our growth and development in\nJesus Christ \u2014 and that growth is based on our foundation in the Word. Hence we\nare compelled to eat of the Word.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s not forget\nthat we all began this with making the Lord Jesus Christ our Shepherd, our\nGuide, our Companion, our Friend \u2014 but most of all, our Lord!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now we come to a\nplace in our lives where there must once again be a conscious decision to\nrespond to Holy Spirit\u2019s leading and direction.  So, instead of \u201cmaking\nus\u201d drink of the waters of the Holy Spirit, He \u201cleads us\u201d beside those waters.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What the Lord is\ndoing is to open us up to a dimension in Him that was not previously possible\nor accessible.  We can liken this experience in a very real way to the\nBaptism of the Holy Spirit in which we MUST yield ourselves to His flow within\nus.  With that yielding comes the speaking in tongues.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That experience is\nonly the first step.  Speaking in tongues is the evidence that you have\ngiven up the most stubborn part of your being \u2014 your tongue \u2014 to the flow of\nHoly Spirit within and through you.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This has been a\nvery controversial subject in many parts of the body of Christ.  In the\nweeks ahead, I'd like to show you why this is so essential to what lies ahead\nin God's economy, and why --without this yielding -- we can NEVER move into\nthat realm we often consider "supernatural."  See you next week.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
