ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: THE PSALM 23 ADVENTURE, Part 3<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Are you beginning to grasp where we are going with this\ndiscussion?  Are you beginning to see what change and what destiny God has\nfor you, personally?<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We are not just having this discussion as a generic thing for\nthe body of Christ as a whole, but rather for each of individually.  There\nare many \u201cChristians\u201d (and I use this term carefully) hear or read the Word\nalmost in a theoretical sense \u2013 NOT as something that applies to them or their\nlives TODAY.  Thus, their lives are a far cry from what Jesus has paid for\non their behalf.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

They don\u2019t see the complete cancellation of the curse that came\nupon the world and upon mankind in general.  They don\u2019t see what Paul\ndeclared when he put it like this in writing to the Romans:<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Romans\n8:2<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>\u201c<\/span><\/b>For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me\nfree from the law of sin and death.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One\nof the tragedies of "modern" Christianity (as opposed to Biblical and\nFirst-Century Christianity) is that religion has wiped out much of the\nsignificance of Jesus' Lordship in the life of the believer.  For a person\nraised and\/or taught in many modern churches, salvation is simply taking care\nof one's fire insurance.  In fact, the Lordship of Jesus Christ extends to\nevery area of our lives.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If\nJesus is Lord and Shepherd indeed, then His Lordship and accompanying authority\nis also Lord over our health and welfare.  And yet, there are far too many\n"believers" for whom the concept of walking in perfect health is a\nfantasy.  Healing is almost accidental.  More Christians rely on the\nmedical profession than they do on the authority of Jesus Christ (and their\npersonal right to appropriate that authority) over sickness and disease.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I'll\nget into this in the next step of this series, but the overwhelming majority of\nChristians still believe that it is somehow holy and righteous to live austere,\npoverty-stricken, or at the very least, minimalist lives.  That contrasts\nsharply to every single individual we see throughout history who partook of the\nAbrahamic<\/span> Covenant.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

They\nwere far and away among -- if not THE -- richest people on the face of the\nearth.  This kind of poverty thinking strikes at the very heart of the\nprice Jesus paid on the Cross so that we could access and be party to the Abrahamic<\/span> Covenant by faith. <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nalso contradicts the Word where Jesus said (See Luke 4:18),<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cThe Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me\nto preach the gospel to the poor.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Good\nnews to the poor is hardly the news that they are going to have to continue\nliving that way.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nhas happened is that the Devil has successfully gotten Christians to pick a\ncouple of scriptures out of context and buy the lie that Jesus was poor, that\nHis disciples were poor, and that Christians should not expect to live\nprosperously in a material sense.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

  <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nSpirit of Religion likes to refer to this as \u201cThe Prosperity Gospel,\u201d and\nphrase it in the most negative sense.  Are there ministers who \u2014 because\nthey are ruled by the Spirit of Poverty \u2014 try to preach and profit personally\nfrom the Scriptures without any real understanding of the promises of God?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nanswer to that is, \u201cObviously!\u201d  And there\u2019s the tragedy!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Prosperity\nhas been relegated to "prospering in our spirits."  Let me give\nyou a couple of choice examples.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 5:3<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\n<\/span>\u201cBlessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of God.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\ngets read as, \u201cBlessed are the poor,\u201d and the rest of the statement gets left\noff.  In fact, the word \u201cpoor,\u201d as it is used here has an entirely\ndifferent context.  This is a reference to \u201cthose who are lifted up in\ntheir own selves.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 8:20<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span>\n<\/span>\u201cThe foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but\nthe Son of Man hath not where to lay His head.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\nfolks miss is the fact that Jesus was traveling when He made this\nstatement.  He was not at home, and there were no hotels or motels for Him\nto stay in.  There were no Best Western hotels or Hiltons or Comfort Inns\nanywhere.  Thus He stayed in whatever home or homes were opened to\nhim.  Jesus did have a home of His own, incidentally.  He was not\npoverty-stricken.  (See John 1:39)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\na farce!  What a fraud!  What a lie!  It leaves God's people\nnever having the kind of surplus needed to support the growth and advancement\nof the Kingdom of God.  It leaves them without the ability to show\ngenerosity in giving and shouldering the responsibility to "care for the\nwidows" and minister to the poor.  It deprives them of the ability to\ndemonstrate the love of the Lord in a tangible, material way that meets\npeople's needs.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nlying doctrine has been perhaps the biggest reason why we've turned to the\ngovernment to take over responsibilities that belong to God's people. \nChristians have been cheated out of the joy of giving from their abundance.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Judas\nwas a prime example of this kind of thinking.  Remember when Mary took a\npound of spikenard (See John 12:1-7) to anoint Jesus feet?  By today's\nmonetary system, her gift represented many hundreds of dollars in value. \nJudas groused about it, and his gripe is one we often hear among\npoverty-thinking Christians today,<\/span>\n<\/span>"Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence,\nand given to the poor?"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

But,\nas John writes,<\/span> <\/span>"This he said, not\nthat he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and\nbare what was put therein."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Got\nthe picture?  So you can understand the significance of what Mary did, a\nRoman penny represented the equal to a day's wages back then, and would value\nat $3.64 in today's money.  Thus 300 pence was a good year's wages back\nthen -- $1,092.00 in today\u2019s reckoning.  And Mary took that to anoint Jesus'\nfeet!  It was a spectacular gift of love on Mary's part.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And\nwe know how Jesus responded to Judas' penny ante thinking,<\/span> "Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she\nkept this.  For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not\nalways."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nis, perhaps, no greater demonstration of the approval and the manifestation of\nthe covenant -- the New Covenant (or Testament) -- that we have in the Lord\nthan that which becomes available once we have entered into it by faith in and\nthrough Jesus Christ.  This is<\/b> the Abrahamic<\/span>\nCovenant, but this is that covenant now extended to "whosoever will."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let's\nnot forget that everything we have and receive in this covenant begins with our\nspeaking agreement with what God promises and declaring our possession of that\ncovenant by faith!  That is mandatory.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One\nof the things Bill Winston said at a Believers\u2019 Convention we attended -- and\nthis applies not only to life generally but specifically to our covenant walk\n-- is this: No one can, or will ever, rise to a level beyond their\nconfession.<\/b><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme say this once again.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

NO\nONE CAN, OR WILL EVER, RISE TO A LEVEL BEYOND THEIR CONFESSION!!!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\ncannot have the Lordship and Shepherding of Jesus Christ without our confession\nof that; and furthermore, that confession must be a faith confession -- not\njust empty rhetoric.  The same is true of everything that follows that\nplace of commitment.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"I shall not want"<\/span>\n<\/span>is\nnot just a place of theoretical or spiritual happiness: it is the absolute\nprovision of everything incorporated into the Abrahamic<\/span>\nCovenant, and made accessible to us as believers in Christ Jesus by virtue of\nHis death on the Cross and subsequent resurrection.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nis the promise of health, strength, long life, favor in relationships, favor\nand blessing in family, the practical dimension of walking free of demonic\ncontrol in our lives, having dominion in every aspect of life, prospering in\nour walk with God, prospering in our relationships, prospering financially,\nprospering in business -- in fact, living the life that exemplifies the\nblessing of God in every single area of our lives.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let's\nback up for a moment to the picture of the Garden of Eden.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Genesis\n1:26 tells us that we were made in the image and likeness of God, imbued with\nHis characteristics, His power and His authority.  We were "like\nGod."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now\ndon't go running off and telling folks that Regner<\/span> Capener<\/span> is preaching some kind of heresy.  We were\ncreated to be like God in every respect.  We just weren't<\/b> created\nto replace Him or take His place.  Mankind is NOT the Creator<\/u><\/b>:\nhe can, therefore, NEVER supplant the Creator<\/u><\/b>.  OK? \nStill with me?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nEarth and all that is therein was created specifically for man.  When Adam\nand Eve were first created, God placed them in the Garden of Eden (I'll come\nback to this in our next discussion).  What is the very first thing heard\nby human ears?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"And God blessed them..." <\/span> <\/span>Got\nit?  They heard blessing -- NOT curse.  That word,\n"blessed," has a core meaning which literally translates to\n"empowered to prosper."  When they heard that blessing, it\ncreated within them exactly what God intended to create: the ability to create\nwith their words.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme repeat myself!  We said that the Earth and all that is therein was\ncreated specifically for man.  When Adam and Eve were first created, God\nplaced them in the Garden of Eden (and we will come back to this).  What\nis the very first thing human ears hear?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"And God blessed them..." <\/span> <\/span>Got\nit?  They heard blessing -- NOT curse.  That word,\n"blessed," has a core meaning which literally translates to\n"empowered to prosper."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If\nyou are among those who get your Hebrew translations or definitions from\nStrong's Concordance, this is one place where Strong's Concordance really\noversimplifies.  Dr. William Gesenius<\/span>, in his\nHebrew-Chaldee<\/span> Lexicon, uses nearly four pages to\ndescribe this word in all of its applications; but first and foremost, he says\nthat the word,<\/span> <\/span>C\u00f8<\/span>‡a<\/span><\/span>˜<\/span> <\/span>ba\u00f2rak<\/span><\/b><\/span>,<\/span> <\/span>means\n"to invoke God."  Hence, everything that God is -- His power,\nHis authority, the creative and active force of His Word going forth, His love,\netc. -- is employed when "blessing" goes forth.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thus,\nwhen God "blessed them" (Adam and Eve), He invoked His blessing, His\nempowerment to prosper, His divine favor, His empowerment to abound in every\ngood work, His empowerment to multiply.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Are\nyou seeing the picture?  Good!  Then you'll understand why the Hebrew\nword for "Eden"<\/span> <\/span>\u00ef\u00e3<\/span>ž\u00f2\u00c8<\/span><\/span>\n<\/span>-€a\u00f2dan<\/span><\/b><\/span>,<\/span> <\/span>literally means "voluptuous living\nwith great pleasure and delight; to live sumptuously."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now! \nDo you see any lack there?  Do you see Adam and Eve having any want of any\nkind?  One cannot even imagine in their wildest fancies the spectacular provision\nAdam and Eve enjoyed.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\ndon't really want to go there today because it would sidetrack this discussion,\nbut several years ago, the Lord took me in the Spirit and transported me back\nthrough time into the Garden of Eden to see Adam and Eve, how they lived, and\nthe pristine beauty of Eden.  We simply have nothing like it in the world\ntoday.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

OK:\na few descriptions.  There was no death, no decay, no deterioration of any\nkind.  The colors were brilliant and pure.  Leaves were green -- and\nI mean GREEN.  There was no brownish tinge -- the tinge of decay or\ndeath.  Flowers were nothing less than gorgeous.  We think our\nflowers today are beautiful -- and they are -- but they pale into nothingness\nby comparison to what Adam and Eve saw.  The sense of peace was almost\nunbelievable.  No cacophonous noises filled the air.  Birds chirped\nand sang harmoniously instead of in a minor mode.  Everywhere you looked,\nthings were lush and full.  The Garden -- under Adam and Eve's care -- was\nbreathtakingly stunning in its beauty and symmetry.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Having\nlived in the arctic for much of my life \u2013 particularly during a time when the\natmosphere was not polluted and the skies were contaminated in such a way as to\nalter their color \u2013 we experienced blue skies unlike that which most people\naccept as the norm today.  When I was in the Garden, what I saw for the\nblue color of the skies was a depth of blue that modern humanity has no concept\nof.  Anyway, 'nuff<\/span> of that.  That was the\nbeginning of the existence of mankind.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
