 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We were going to continue this week with our Psalm 23 Adventure,\nbut with the general election coming up in just a few days, it seemed\nappropriate to take a break and share the following things with you.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\u2019m\nindebted to my old friend and longtime brother in the Lord, Lyn Barnes, for\nthis topic.  Lyn used to be my supervisor at the Christian Broadcasting\nNetwork in Virginia Beach when I was an area director for the 700 Club in\nAlaska.  Wow!  That was a couple of days ago, wasn\u2019t it, Lyn?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Anyway,\nLyn has commented from time to time on my pieces dealing with government,\npolitics, and the Christian\u2019s responsibility to be involved.  He noticed a\nscripture one day that caught his attention, made note of it and passed it on\nto me.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\ndon\u2019t think there is anyone in this country \u2013 and perhaps most countries of the\nworld \u2013 who hasn\u2019t taken a position on an issue, and have subsequently been\nreferred to as being \u201con the right,\u201d or, \u201con the left.\u201d  Bet you didn\u2019t\nknow where the \u201cright\u201d and \u201cleft\u201d references came from, nor how long they\u2019ve\nbeen with us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If\na person is a \u201cconservative,\u201d they are generally referred to as being \u201con the\nright.\u201d  If they are a liberal, or a socialist, most folks call them\n\u201cleftists.\u201d  There is great spiritual significance to these terms, whether\nyou realize it or not.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nhave some other adjectives by which refer to folks today.  \u201cModerate\u201d is\ngenerally meant to refer to someone who holds neither \u201cextremist\u201d right or left\nviews.  I was somewhat amused listening to Rush Limbaugh one day when I\nheard him making his views known on \u201cmoderates.\u201d  He called \u201cmoderates\u201d\ncowards who are afraid to let their true views be known: \u201ccompromisers,\u201d he\ncalled them.  I\u2019ll add my two cents worth in a minute.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One\nother term that has become more or less used in the last couple of years is\n\u201cprogressive.\u201d  Talk about a euphemism!  This is an adjective that\nfolks use who don\u2019t want to be known as \u201cliberal,\u201d or \u201cleftist.\u201d  They\nhide their \u201cleftist\u201d views under the label of being \u201cprogressive,\u201d with the\nproposition that a \u201cprogressive\u201d learns, whereas a right-wing \u201cextremist\u201d\nstands fast, and is unwilling to \u201cmoderate\u201d their views.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Hilarious,\nisn\u2019t it?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A\nperson is referred to as a \u201cright-wing extremist\u201d if he holds his conservative\nviews uncompromisingly; and vice-versa, a person is referred to as a \u201cleft-wing\nextremist\u201d if they are uncompromising in their views.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\u2019ve\noften been labeled throughout the years as an \u201cextremist,\u201d whether the\n\u201cright-wing\u201d label was applied or not.  Hey!  If the shoe\nfits........?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nI\u2019ve investigated the \u201cextremist\u201d label folks have applied to me, I\u2019ve\ndiscovered that they mean I\u2019m extreme because I believe that Jesus Christ\nabsolutely is THE Son of God; that there is NO OTHER WAY to Heaven than through\na genuine one-on-one relationship with Jesus Christ, with Him as Lord and\nSavior and Redeemer of your life.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Guilty! \nIf that\u2019s what folks mean when they label me as an \u201cextremist,\u201d then I\u2019ll\ngladly wear the label.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Some\nfolks call me an extremist because I hold conservative Republican views. \nFact is, I\u2019m more conservative and less Republican.  Well, maybe I am just\nas much Republican, but not the current brand of Republicanism which has been\nwatered down and cheapened by a \u201cbroad tent\u201d philosophy.  Guess most folks\nwould refer to me as a \u201cConstitutionalist.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Brother,\nnow here\u2019s another euphemism if I ever saw one!  \u201cBroad Tent\u201d?  It\nstrikes me as a royal case of compromise.  I know there are places folks\ncan compromise without compromising their integrity, but when folks begin to\ncompromise their stands on moral, social and spiritual issues in favor of\neconomic issues, or compromise their stands on economic issues in favor of\nsocial issues, they\u2019ve ceased to be true Republicans.  Republicanism used\nto stand for conservatism on social issues, moral issues and economic\nissues.  It\u2019s kind of hard to tell anymore!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Anyway,\nlet\u2019s get back to this \u201cright-left\u201d thing.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Did\nyou know that people were considered on the right or left as far back as the\ndays of our founding fathers?  Did you know that people were considered\n\u201cright\u201d or \u201cleft\u201d as far back as Roman times?  Did you know that the\nScripture is filled with references to being \u201con the right\u201d or \u201con the left\u201d?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\ntake a look at one of the first references in which wisdom or understanding is\ndesignated either way.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ecclesiastes 10:2 NASB:<\/span><\/u><\/b> <\/span>\u201cA wise man\u2019s heart directs him toward the right, but the\nfoolish man\u2019s heart directs him toward the left.  <\/sup>Even\nwhen the fool walks along the road, his sense is lacking and he demonstrates to\neveryone that he is a fool.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Pretty\ntelling, isn\u2019t it?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nvery next verse is directed at the would-be compromiser.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ecclesiastes 10:3 NASB:<\/span><\/u><\/b> <\/span>\u201cIf the ruler\u2019s temper rises against you, do not abandon your\nposition, because composure allays great offenses.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thus,\na person \u201con the right\u201d has a wise heart, whereas a person \u201con the left\u201d is\ndirected by foolishness.  Ouch!  The compromiser is obviously one who\nis afraid of the temper of those in places of authority, and abandons his or\nher position in order to placate that temper.  THAT is a picture of\nsomeone ruled by fear, and directed in foolishness.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nhas something to say about the right and the left when He talks about the Day\nof Judgment:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 25:31-33<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>\u201cBut when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels\nwith Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne.  All the nations will\nbe gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the\nshepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will put the sheep\non His right<\/u>, and the goats on the left<\/u>.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nHebrew thought and metaphors, sheep are regarded as willing and obedient\nfollowers of God, whereas goats are the depiction of those who are rebellious\nand self-willed.  (All of these Scripture quotations, incidentally, are\ntaken from the NASB.)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now,\nlook at the judgment of the Lord that comes to those on the right, and then\nthose on the left.  Those on the right are regarded as righteous, whereas\nthose on the left are regarded as wicked, perverse, and accursed.  (see)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 25:33-46:<\/span><\/u><\/b> \u201cThen the King will\nsay to those on His right, \u2018Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the\nkingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.  <\/sup>\u2018For\nI was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me\nsomething to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you\nclothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me;  I was in prison, and you came\nto Me.\u2019<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201c<\/span><\/sup>Then the righteous will answer Him, \u2018Lord, when did we see You\nhungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink?  And\nwhen did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe\nYou?  <\/sup>When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to\nYou?\u2019  <\/sup>The King will answer and say to them, \u2018Truly I say\nto you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even\nthe least of them, you did it to Me.\u2019<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cThen He will also say to those on His left, \u2018Depart from Me,\naccursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and\nhis angels; for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty,\nand you gave Me nothing to drink; I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me\nin; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not\nvisit Me.\u2019<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201c<\/span><\/sup>Then they themselves also will answer, \u2018Lord, when did we see\nYou hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did\nnot take care of You?\u2019<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

<\/a> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201c<\/span><\/sup>Then He will answer them, \u2018Truly I say to you, to the extent\nthat you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.\u2019\nThese will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\ncase you are getting upset with me, I didn\u2019t make this up.  This isn\u2019t my\ncontrivance.  These left-right designations have stood for thousands of\nyears.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nour founding fathers came together to establish the Declaration of\nIndependence, the Constitution of the United States, and the Bill of Rights,\nthey had a firm view fixed in their understanding.  That view plainly was\nin accord with the Scriptural definitions and designations for right and wrong,\ngood and evil.  \u201cRight\u201d and \u201cLeft\u201d were, to those founders, scriptural\ndesignations and they intended to establish a nation that honored the Lord\nJesus Christ at its core without establishing some kind of denominational\nattribution as England had with the Anglican Church.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Conservative\nviews prevailed in those days.  Conservatism held that it was the\nresponsibility of the churches and individual believers to provide for the care\nof the indigent; and to that end, our Constitution was constructed in such a\nway as to leave the Federal Government out of the welfare business.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nbrand of so-called \u201cLiberalism\u201d that prevailed in those days did not argue\nagainst that position, and political conservatives and liberals pretty much\nagreed on limiting the overall scope of government.  \u201cLiberalism,\u201d in the days\nof our founding fathers, was applied almost exclusively to differing views of\nthe responsibilities of Christians and their relationship with the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Not\nuntil the intrusion of Lenin and Marx with their brand of \u201cCommunism\u201d and its\nintroduction into society did liberalism begin to take on a whole new character\nat which our founding fathers would have paled.  The terms \u201cLeft\u201d and\n\u201cLiberal\u201d came to be applied to socialism, big and bigger government, and the\nmentality we\u2019ve come to refer to in Texas as the \u201cRobin Hood Mentality\u201d in\nwhich government took from the more prosperous by force in order to give to the\n\u201cless fortunate.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nkind of governmental intrusion into the lives of people is totally at odds with\nJesus\u2019 commands to His believers.  It provided a whole new definition and\nlife         to what Jesus referred to as \u201cthe\ngoats.\u201d  As earlier noted, goats represented a self-willed, rebellious\npeople who decided they were going to run their lives \u2013 and the lives of others\n\u2013 in opposition to the grace, love and righteousness of those who were obedient\nto the Lord, His will and His commands.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Solomon\u2019s\nstatement that wisdom was designated as \u201cthe right,\u201d and foolishness, or the\nfool being on \u201cthe left,\u201d could not better describe the state of affairs in our\nnation (and others as well) in this day and age.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\npicture that follows in the next verses in Ecclesiastes 10 presents a graphic\nportrayal of \u201cright\u201d and \u201cleft.\u201d  I won\u2019t take time to address them today\nbecause it would take too much time, but we will consider them in a different\ndiscussion.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

For\nthose \u201con the left\u201d in Jesus\u2019 judgment, the end of their way is<\/span> <\/span>\u201c\u2026eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his\nangels.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nleaves no wiggle room whatever.  One either chooses what Jesus treats as\n\u201cthe right\u201d and enjoys the rewards thereof, or they choose \u201cthe left,\u201d and\nsuffer the ultimate consequences.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nhave a strong conviction about this whole picture.  It may not win me any\nfriends or influence people, but I really don\u2019t care!  One only has to\ntake a look at what we have come to call the \u201cextreme left\u201d in our society\ntoday, and you have a picture of the unrighteous, a picture of wickedness, a\npicture of immorality, a picture of sin and compromise with sin that is rapidly\nbecoming boundless, and without any spiritual or moral anchor whatever.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cLeft\u201d\nand \u201cRight\u201d are discussions that have a widening gap in our society; and it\ndoesn\u2019t matter whether you apply those definitions in politics, in society, or\nin spiritual affairs.  I want to deal at length with what Solomon had to\nsay as he talked about a people who obviously were as much a part of his day\nand age as they are of ours.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Surprise,\nSurprise, Surprise!  You thought I was going to launch into a tirade on\nHillary or get caught up in the scandalizing of Trump\u2019s arrogant and\n\u201cindelicate\u201d comments from time to time.  That\u2019s not what I had in mind\nwhen I began this Coffee Break, but what I will say on that subject is that\nHillary\u2019s position as a leftist (she\u2019s not even close to a \u201cLiberal!\u201d  I\nwon\u2019t even denigrate the word like that!) is without peer.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If\nyou are among those who detested Trump\u2019s flamboyant and often insulting\ncomments over the past year, join the club!   In order to judge the\nelection of 2016 fairly, however, we absolutely MUST look beyond his crudeness,\nand we must \u2013 at the same time \u2013 look past Hillary\u2019s promises and accusations.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nthe track record for each of them.  Donald Trump has many years of\nbusiness experience and successes that very few people in political office can\neven come close to.  We have a nation with a reported approximately $20\nTrillion in indebtedness.  I\u2019m not going to get on that subject other than\nto say that the supposed $20T in national debt is scarcely the interest on the\ndebt, much less our actual indebtedness.  We are going in debt at a\nconsistent $2T per year just since Obama<\/span> took office.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Even\nthe most economically ignorant among us would have to admit that we are\nvirtually bankrupt.  This simply cannot continue!  We need someone\nwith a proven track record financially who can right this ship.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Hillary\nis absolutely bereft of economic skills and wisdom and wants to continue the\n\u201ctax and spend\u201d policies of the left.  That\u2019s insane!  She promises\nthe moon to people who want to continue living \u201con the dole\u201d without exercising\nany personal responsibility.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Both\npresidential candidates have serious moral issues in their pasts, but Hillary\u2019s\nfailings are not simply moral: they are spiritual, they are ethical, and they\nare a treasonous betrayal of the trust placed in her as a Secretary of\nState.  Those issues will ultimately lead to her impeachment and\/or\nimprisonment.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

For\nthose of us who know the heart of the Lord for this nation and its destiny, it\nis crystal clear that God has chosen Trump for this moment in time, and we need\nto get on board with His choice.  One thing that a lot of believers may\nnot be aware of is the fact that in the past few months, Trump has openly\nrepented for the sins of his past and invited Jesus Christ to become Lord of\nhis life.  That makes a huge difference in my book!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\u2019ve\nquoted Dwain McKenzie\u2019s famous comment at the close of my Coffee Breaks at\ndifferent times, but the discussion of \u201cleft\u201d and \u201cright\u201d couldn\u2019t possibly be\nbetter applied: Things are not what they seem to be, they\u2019re what God\nsays they are!<\/i><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
