 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let's see if we can wrap up with <\/span><\/b>I Shall NOT Want<\/span> today and move on\nto the third part of this adventure -- and that's what it is! -- <\/span><\/b>He Maketh<\/span> Me to Lie Down in Green\nPastures<\/span>.  By now, perhaps, you are seeing just what all is\ninvolved in this transition from gloom and doom, from self-focus to the King of\nGlory being revealed IN US!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This is radical change, folks!  Our whole character\nand nature are being transformed.  How was it that Paul put it?<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Romans\n12:2<\/span><\/u><\/b>:  <\/span><\/b>And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the\nrenewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is<\/i> that good,\nand acceptable, and perfect, will of God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The thinking of this world and its societies has been\ncontaminated with the lies<\/span> of\nSatan.  "Hath God said" underlies just about every\ncontroversy you can think of that challenges our relationship with the Lord and\nour ability to be conformed to His image.  "Hath God said"\nis the root behind the generation of all fears that contaminate our thinking\nand our lives.  (We will get to that much more in depth in the weeks\nto come.)<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nremind you once again that everything we are discussing is predicated on, \u201cI\nshall not want.\u201d  That includes our health, and our physical well\nbeing.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nsaid, consider what the Word says about our health, our strength, our stamina,\nour healing and our overall well-being.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What\ndoes God's Word say concerning diseases?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 103:2-3<\/span><\/u><\/b>:  <\/span>"Bless the Lord, Oh my Soul, and forget not all His\nbenefits: Who forgiveth<\/span> all thine<\/span>\niniquities, Who healeth<\/span> ALL thy diseases<\/u>;"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And\nhow about this one?  You\u2019re all familiar with the song we\u2019ve sung\nfrom Malachi 4:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Malachi 4:2-3<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>But\nunto you that fear My Name shall the Sun of Righteousness arise with healing in\nHis wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. <\/span>3<\/span><\/sup>And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes\nunder the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this<\/i>, saith<\/span> the LORD of hosts.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And\nthen there\u2019s this one.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I Peter 2:24:<\/span><\/u><\/b>  <\/span>"Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the\ntree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by\nwhose stripes YE WERE healed<\/u>."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nsee where the confession lies, don't you?  Healing is an accomplished fact\nby Jesus Christ.  He took care of all of our sicknesses and diseases on\nthe Cross.  We are THE healed!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Satan\nsimply wants to rob us of our healing by getting us to confess that we own,\nthat we possess these sicknesses.  I'm not talking about mind over\nmatter.  It isn't a case of us not being hit with these afflictions. \nSatan does come along and hit us with these things in order to tear us down, to\ndestroy us, to bring us under subjection to disease so that we will not\nexemplify the Word and the authority of the Lord to the world around us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We'll\ndeal with this more in future discussions, but let me wrap up what we\u2019re\nfocusing on with this statement for you to chew on: There are NO promises made\nin the Word of God that we cannot possess; but our possession of those\npromises absolutely depends on the words that come out of our mouth<\/b>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nwe declare our agreement with and our conviction that the promises of God to us\nare brought to fruition in the statement, I shall not want, puts us on track\nwith the restorative process detailed in the 23rd Psalm.  Consider\nwhat is happening with our confession:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

All <\/span><\/b>of Creation began\nwith the spoken Word.  Nothing happened until The Word Himself\ndeclared, Light BE!\u201d  We get to the sixth day of Creation and see the\nLord molding us and shaping us, creating us to be just like Him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then\nHe blesses us and imbues us with the same creative power of speech that was and\nis inherent in Him.  There was a catch, however!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\ncreating us to be like Him, He also created us with a will of our\nown.  We were never created to be automatons \u2014 robots who obediently\nfollowed every command blindly without making a personal decision to be\nobedient to His will because of a personal love relationship, friendship, and\ncompanionship with Him.  That wasn\u2019t what He was after.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

From\nthe beginning of time, God\u2019s purposes have always been to have a family of His\nown \u2014 a people who reflect His nature, His character, His personality, and\nfunction at the same time with His power and authority.  The\nauthority He has given us was never given to be used whenever we decided\nto.  Rather it is an authority, coupled with the power behind it,\nwhich is under disciplined control.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thus\nthe process of transformation from the corrupted image of flesh-based,\nemotionally reactive thinking and decisions to that image we were first created\nin and for \u2014 to the place where we are truly living and operating as God\ndesigned us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nwere designed for fellowship with Him.  We were designed to function\nlike Him.  We were designed to rule with Him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nearth, and all that is therein, was created as a laboratory to develop a people\nwho would overcome every obstacle, every kind of opposition \u2014 including the\nopposition of their own flesh, as well as the devil.  Satan began his\nexistence as Lucifer \u2014 an angelic being \u2014 whose initial purpose was to surround\nthe Throne of God as the source of praise and worship.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

From\nthe very beginning, God knew that Satan would come to a point of arrogance and\nrebellion and attempt to usurp the Throne and supplant God.  God was\nnot taken by surprise when he did so.  Neither was He taken by\nsurprise when Adam disobeyed the command to NOT eat of the fruit of the Tree of\nthe Knowledge of Good and Evil.  All of these events played directly\ninto the sovereign plan to develop a people, a race of beings like Him, who\nwould be able to develop His character and nature and authority, and in the\nprocess of overcoming, also overcome the highest angelic being ever created \u2014\nnow fallen \u2014 and learn to rule with His authority.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nadventure we know as the 23rd Psalm is both a prophecy and a transformative\nprocess which begins with our doing the very same thing that God did at\ncreation \u2014 speaking!  Declaring!  Decreeing!  We\nare being re-created.  The Lord is my Shepherd begins the decree of\nchange.  I shall NOT want is the return of our life to the Tree of\nLife!  It marks our departure from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good\nand Evil.  I shall NOT want really says the following \u2014 and this is\nhow it is expressed in the Hebrew text.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

[My supply has been fully met.]  There is nothing I\nhave need of that has not already been provided or taken care of.  I\nshall not fail.  I will not decrease.  I will never have a\nneed that has not already been taken care of [whether material, financial or my\nphysical health and well-being].  <\/span>(Psalm 23:1b, RAC Translation &\nAmplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

OK?  You\nsee what kind of transformative process is taking place, don\u2019t\nyou?  Here, again, this takes place with our confession, our\nagreement with the Lord and our declaration!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Christianity,\nfrom its inception, has been about a personal, living, love-relationship with\nthe Lord God, with Jesus Christ as the center of that relationship living and\nbreathing in and through us to develop and conform us to His character and\npersonality and traits.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

To\nget there, some essential foundations must be laid in our lives.  Those\nfoundations all -- without exception -- being in His Word!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nwant to <\/span>"dwell in the House of the Lord forever"?  <\/span>Good!  In order\nto do that, you must come to the place where you eat, sleep, breathe, and --\nmost of all -- speak the Word of God with the Faith of God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

David\nunderstood the necessity of living and breathing a relationship with the\nLord.  He saw in his daily shepherding activities as a young man all of the\nexamples which demonstrate the processes of the Lord to bring us to that\npoint.  Being "constrained" or compelled to lie down in green\npastures was and is the first and most essential beginning place for that\nrelationship to develop to maturity.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nis no substitute for the Word of God.  NONE!!!  Being compelled,\ntherefore, to lie down and eat is a picture that our modern society has little\nunderstanding for.  This is a picture of very slow, deliberate, un-rushed\nand unhurried eating.  Sheep who lie down to eat take bites, then chew on\nit, swallow, wait for some short (or varied length of) time, then take another\nbite, chew on it slowly, then swallow it -- and the whole process repeats\nitself until the immediately accessible food has been eaten and digested. \nThe sheep then gets up, moves to another good green spot, lies down and repeats\nthe whole process again.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Are\nyou getting the picture?  This is a process.  This is\ndeliberative.  This is methodical.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nshepherd will watch the flocks until the sheep have eaten most of what is in\nthat immediate area before leading them to another part of the pasture. \nOver time, that area already eaten will grow up again, and the shepherd will\nlead his sheep back to it to feed on that same grass again.  It is a wonderful\nillustration of eating the Word, chewing on it, swallowing it, digesting it,\nand -- over time -- coming back to it again to take more of that same Word in\nagain.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nwill hear me say this again and again throughout this series.  When David\nsaid, <\/span>"I SHALL NOT want,"<\/span> he wasn't simply speaking\nmetaphorically.  He wasn't referring just to material needs (although they\nwere certainly a part of the picture).  He was speaking of his\nhealth.  He was speaking of the totality of his existence.  He was\nspeaking of his walk with God.  He was referring to having the nature and\ncharacter of the Lord inherent in his own makeup and character.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

David\ndidn't get that built into himself by any other means than to eat of God's\nWord.  He spent time in the presence of the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I've\nrelated some of this before, but many years ago, I had an experience in which\nthe Lord took me to Heaven.  During that time, I met and talked with\nDavid; and he shared with me the wonder of being able to sit on the hillsides\nwatching his sheep and having the Spirit of the Lord flow through him as he\nsang and praised and worshiped God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He\nshared how the Lord poured Himself and His character into him during those\nhours, those days, those weeks, months and years of spending time with\nHim.  He shared how He heard the voice of God, and how the Lord poured His\nWord into him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

David\ndidn't become King of Israel by some accident.  He wasn't chosen because\nhe was a "good guy."  David knew <\/b>the\nLord.  He had a living <\/b>relationship with Him. <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

David\nmeditated in God's Word -- the written Word that was available at the time, and\nthe living <\/span>rhema<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>that he received in the midst of the hours he spent in\npraise, worship, prayer and thanksgiving.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If\nyou remember, David begins the Psalms like this (See Psalm 1):<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 1:1-2<\/span><\/u><\/b>:  <\/span>"Blessed is the man that walketh<\/span>\nnot in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth<\/span> in\nthe way of sinners, nor sitteth<\/span> in the seat of the\nscornful.  But his delight is in the Law of the Lord, and in His Law doth\nhe meditate day and night."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nwasn't some nice, spiritual thing to say.  David made that statement\nbecause he knew the truth of it.  It was life in him.  He meditated\nin the Word of the Lord, the Law of the Lord continuously.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

By\nthe time David was chosen to become King of Israel, despite his relative\nyouthfulness, he was mature in his walk and relationship with the Lord. \nHe had become an effective "speaker" of the Word of God.  The\nWord had been put to the test in him on numerous occasions.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He\nhad successfully taken out Goliath, the Philistine giant who was challenging\nthe armies of Israel.  He had killed both a lion and a bear with his bare\nhands.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

David\nknew the protective nature of the Word of God when spoken.  He was practiced\nin the Word.  He could clearly say, therefore, with complete\nconviction and understanding, <\/span>"He maketh<\/span> me to lie down in green pastures."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

David\nunderstood the essential nature of being compelled -- by virtue of time and\ncircumstances, and the things he learned in God -- to feed on God's Word. \nThat, my friends, is exactly what it means to <\/span>"lie down in green pastures."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
