2016 promises to be the most\nspectacular year we\u2019ve ever had!&nbsp; For those who are walking in intimate\nunion with the Lord Jesus Christ, they will see the realm of the \u201cmiraculous\u201d\n(the real normal) unfold in dimensions never experienced by this\ngeneration.&nbsp; \u201cPhillip Transportation\u201d will become more and more\ncommon.&nbsp; Mass healings and mass deliverances will be more and more in\nevidence.&nbsp; The Glory of the Lord will be on display as never before!<\/span><\/b><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\ncolor:#663300'>The feast table depicted in the artist\u2019s rendition from Glory of\nZion (shown above) is exactly how I see 2016 for committed, sold-out\nbelievers.&nbsp; On the other hand, it promises to be a traumatic year for\nfolks who live their lives in fear, doubt and unbelief.&nbsp; The provision of\nthe Lord for His people is beyond description, and we need to take advantage of\nthat provision to move this last great Harvest along.<\/span><\/b><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\ncolor:#663300'>There is no question that the Lord wants a full table for the\nfeast He has set before us.&nbsp; Let\u2019s do our part, folks!<\/span><\/b><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\ncolor:#663300'>One of the areas that we need to exercise ourselves in as sons\nand daughters of God is the realm of authority \u2013 the authority that we have in\nspeaking.&nbsp; We need to be speaking to our situations, speaking to work\nenvironments, speaking to the various levels of government and bringing Kingdom\nauthority in each situation.&nbsp; We need to KNOW what it means to declare and\ndecree peace in the midst of chaos and the rulership of the Lord Jesus Christ\nin our governments.<\/span><\/b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\ncolor:#663300'>For those of you who enjoyed and participated in the fireworks\ndisplays for this new year, it brings to mind for me some of my own experiences\nfrom the past.<\/span><\/b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>When\nwe were living in Nome and I was just a young tyke, we went out to Anvil\nMountain for the 4th of July holiday and took some fireworks with us.&nbsp; It\nwas perhaps my first or second experience of lighting fireworks.&nbsp; We had\n&quot;sizzlers&quot; and &quot;ladyfingers.&quot;&nbsp; We had &quot;Roman\nCandles&quot; and &quot;Chinese Rockets.&quot;&nbsp; All of that was OK, but it\nwas the &quot;Cherry Bombs&quot; that interested me.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>You\nknow what they are, right?&nbsp; 'Bout an inch or so in diameter, maybe two\ninches long -- give or take -- and they pack a pretty good amount of\npowder.&nbsp; In those days it was fun to set a Cherry Bomb under a pile of\nrocks, or make some kind of makeshift &quot;house&quot; out of driftwood or\nrocks, branches and turf, and blow it up.&nbsp; My brother and I went to a lot\nof trouble one day to build this &quot;house&quot; in preparation for blowing\nit up.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>I\nlit the fuse on the Cherry Bomb and waited.&nbsp; Nothing.&nbsp; Two or three\nminutes went by.&nbsp; Still nothing.&nbsp; I shrugged my shoulders and decided\nI had a dud.&nbsp; My Dad warned me that sometimes the fuses get wet or damp,\nand don't burn as fast, and that I ought to just leave it alone.&nbsp;\nNawwww....&nbsp; Huhh Uhhh.&nbsp; I wanted the &quot;bang,&quot; and decided\nI'd yank the &quot;dud&quot; and put another in its place.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Right.&nbsp;\nI pulled the &quot;dud,&quot; clenched it in my left hand while I put another\nin its place and lit it.&nbsp; Maybe ten or fifteen feet from the\n&quot;house,&quot; the so-called &quot;dud&quot; suddenly blew up.&nbsp;\nWhether it was the way I had clenched the Cherry Bomb, or just the Grace of God,\nall it did was blow my hand open and leave my palm and fingers absolutely black\nfrom the powder.&nbsp; There was a slight surface burn, but nothing to speak\nof.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>The\nshock of the Cherry Bomb exploding in my hand left me standing there\ndazed.&nbsp; My folks rushed over to see if I was OK when the second Cherry\nBomb suddenly blew and showered us all with bits of rock, wood and dirt from\nour little &quot;house.&quot;&nbsp; Duhhhhh.&nbsp; I decided I'd had enough\nadventure for the time with firecrackers, and it was a couple years before I\nasked my father to buy them again.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Funny\nthing, though.&nbsp; Part of my military training was with the 7th Special\nForces, learning the art or science of demolitions.&nbsp; The difference was\nthat we were using shaped charges made from C-3 or C-4 and blowing up icebergs\n(part of our training exercises in the arctic, you know) as big as\ntankers.&nbsp; Must be something about the thrill of things going &quot;bang,&quot;\nI guess.&nbsp; I dunno.&nbsp; Maybe that first explosion did something to\nme.&nbsp; You think?&nbsp; Oh well!&nbsp; 'Nuff of that.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Coffee's\non, folks!&nbsp; The French Press is steeping and steaming.&nbsp; Got some of\nthat really dark roasted Columbian today.&nbsp; Goooooooodd Stuff!<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Mary\nMendenhall was a Yupik Eskimo who had moved to Nome in 1948 seeking medical\ntreatment.&nbsp; By the time we became aware of her condition, the medical\nsociety had given her up for dead.&nbsp; With a prognosis of perhaps two or\nthree weeks to live, she was dying of tuberculosis, her lungs literally eaten\naway.&nbsp; (My memory says she had cancer as well, but don't quote me on\nthat.)<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>The\nfirst time I walked into her house with my father, she was barely conscious and\nscarcely aware that we were there.&nbsp; At age six, I knew that healing was\npart of the package that Jesus provided, and I'd certainly read in the Gospels\nabout all of the healing miracles that Jesus performed.&nbsp; I'd never seen\none, however.&nbsp; This was going to be my first experience.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Harriet\nBrown was a nurse who had just moved from Toronto, Ontario to Nome to work with\nmy parents in establishing the ministry there.&nbsp; She was with Dad and me\nwhen we went into Mary's house.&nbsp; It was a pretty grim atmosphere, and I\nwasn't sure I wanted to be there.&nbsp; Harriet leaned over Mary and made her\naware of our presence.&nbsp; Dad then began to talk to Mary about Jesus Christ,\nsalvation, deliverance, healing -- the whole package of Salvation, if you will\n-- and at an appropriate moment asked Mary if she would like for us to pray\nwith her, and if she would like to accept the Lordship of Jesus Christ in her\nlife.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>In\na very low, nearly inaudible voice, she responded, &quot;Yes.&quot;&nbsp; Dad\nled her in a prayer of repentance and acknowledgement of Jesus Christ.&nbsp;\nShe scarcely finished her prayer when she was seized with a coughing fit and\nliterally splattered her bed sheet with the blood she was expelling.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Dad\nleaned over, put his hand on her forehead and commanded the tuberculosis and\nevery spirit of sickness and infirmity to leave her body.&nbsp; Thinking back\nto that experience, it was an unusual prayer for him.&nbsp; He was normally\nvery quiet and reserved, and his usual practice -- at least the one I was most\nfamiliar with throughout the years -- was to simply lay hands on folks and\ndeclare their healing in a quiet, very unforceful manner.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Folks\nwho've known my father will tell you that he rarely raised his voice, was\nalmost always understated in the way he expressed himself and yet carried with\nhim an undeniable sense of authority that most folks -- whether Christian or\nnot -- saw and recognized.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>When\nhe laid his hand on Mary Mendenhall's forehead and began to speak the name of\nJesus, her eyes opened wide and color began to return to her countenance.&nbsp;\nShe attempted to sit up in bed, but Harriet told her just to be quiet, rest and\nallow the healing to be completed.&nbsp; It was -- to the best of my\nrecollection -- about three weeks before we saw her in church, and she was\nstill a bit wobbly (I'd guess that she might have weighed between 70 and 80\npounds the day we went to her home), but her recovery was obvious.&nbsp; Within\nthree months, she had put on close to 50 pounds (she stood about 5'4&quot; in\nheight) and was the picture of health.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Mary's\nhealing and her walk with the Lord Jesus Christ became a catalyst among the\nnative community in Nome.&nbsp; Her strong voice and testimony of what the Lord\nhad done for her caused many curiosity seekers to come and see what this\nPentecostal preacher was all about.&nbsp; She personally led more people to\nJesus Christ than I can count.&nbsp; Until our departure from Nome in the summer\nof 1953, she continued as a regular&nbsp;and in the mid-1950's decided she\nneeded to go to a Bible College and prepare for ministry.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>While\nat that college (memory says it was a Native-American Pentecostal college in\nSouth Dakota), she met another Eskimo gentleman who shared the same call to\nministry.&nbsp; The ministry in Alaska had come full circle.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>You\ndon't, as a farmer, plow hard ground without running into rocks from time to\ntime.&nbsp; Those rocks can be a real impediment to preparing a field for\nplanting and harvest.&nbsp; Nome was just that: hard ground with the occasional\nrocks that became a real pain the neck.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>One\nsuch &quot;rock&quot; was a local attorney who took an instant dislike to Dad,\nto our presence in the community, and to the ministry of the Holy Spirit.&nbsp;\nNome had seven or eight churches already operating when we arrived, but their\npastors were, sadly, just pacifying their congregations with Caesar-Milquetoast\nmessages and doctrines that permitted the people to live in ongoing sin while\nbelieving that they were &quot;Christians&quot;.&nbsp; Though you certainly\nwould never refer to Alvin Capener as a &quot;fire and brimstone&quot;\npreacher, and though he rarely raised his voice in emotional fervor, his solid\npreaching brought conviction and confrontation with truth to folks who\nconsidered themselves &quot;saved.&quot;<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>This\nlocal attorney (we'll call him &quot;Fred&quot; for the sake of this story)\nlooked for every opportunity to make life miserable for Dad in the hopes that\nhe would leave town discouraged.&nbsp; He tangled with the wrong man!<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Our\nnext-door-neighbor was a hardware store owner whose oldest son was demonized in\nthe true sense of the word.&nbsp; This boy (we'll refer to him as\n&quot;Henry&quot;) could be likeable one moment, and a terror the next.&nbsp;\nNo one knew what set him off, but he would without warning suddenly change\npersonality and become violent.&nbsp; His father was well aware of his son's\npropensity for violence and knew that there were deep-rooted problems that\nneeded dealing with, but he never made any effort to address the situation.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>One\nday during outdoor play activities, Howard and I were playing with Henry when,\nagain without warning, he suddenly picked up a rock and threw it hard at Howard\n(&quot;Howie&quot;), striking him in the forehead.&nbsp; Howie dropped to the\nground bleeding and dazed as Henry yelled profanities at him.&nbsp; Dad\nhappened to be standing at the window and saw it happen.&nbsp; He ran outside\nand grabbed Henry by his arm, turned him over his knee and gave him a spanking\nwith his hand.&nbsp; &quot;Don't you EVER do that again, and don't you EVER\ncome back here to play with Regner and Howard,&quot; he said sternly with about\nas much emotion as you'd ever see.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Henry\n-- who was nearly twice Howie's age -- ran home crying.&nbsp; Henry's father\nhappened to be close buddies with Fred, our not-so-friendly attorney.&nbsp;\nFred saw this as the perfect opportunity to discredit Dad and launch an\nattack.&nbsp; Together, Fred and our neighbor went to the police and filed\nassault charges.&nbsp; The police showed up at our door and arrested Dad.&nbsp;\nHe was charged and subsequently released on his own recognizance.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>When\nthe case went before the local judge who also was a very close friend of\nFred's, he declined to hear Dad's explanation of what happened, hearing only\nthe very colorful testimony of the &quot;aggrieved&quot; father.&nbsp; He\nsimply asked Dad if he had indeed spanked Henry and Dad responded that he\nhad.&nbsp; When he began to explain the circumstances, the judge shushed him,\nbanged his gavel down and said, &quot;Rev. Capener, I'm fining you $500.&quot;<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>In\n1950, a $500 fine would be roughly tantamount to being given a $50,000 fine\ntoday.&nbsp; Had Dad taken the case to an appeals court, and the court\npermitted to hear all of the details, there's no doubt it would have been\noverturned.&nbsp; Anti-spanking laws were not on the books in those days, and\nit was common practice even to spank someone else's children in aggravated\ncircumstances -- in Alaska, anyway.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Because\nthe driving force behind this case was the attorney, Dad turned to him in the\ncourtroom and said, &quot;Fred, I'm going to pay this fine.&nbsp; But you'll\nfind in the end that you will be the loser for this.&nbsp; You do not come\nagainst the work of God without consequences.&quot;<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Whether\nDad specifically quoted to him Isaiah's prophecy or not<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><span style='font-size:12.5pt;font-family:\"NewsweekGrotesqueEight\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>(<span\nstyle='color:#C00000'>&quot;No weapon that is formed against thee shall\nprosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt\ncondemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their\nrighteousness is of me, saith the LORD.&quot;<\/span><\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>--\nIsaiah 54:17), he was standing on it.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>For\nabout two months following the incident and the public humiliation that Dad\ntook over it, his enemies in Nome crowed over it and had themselves a good old\ntime.&nbsp; Their jubilation was short lived, however.&nbsp; Fred decided to go\non a fishing trip with our neighbor and the judge in a lagoon not far from\nNome.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>How\nit happened was never quite clear, but the boat capsized.&nbsp; Fred drowned\nand the judge died not long thereafter from exposure.&nbsp; Our next-door\nneighbor barely escaped with his life.&nbsp; He remembered Dad's words in the\ncourtroom.&nbsp; Following Fred's funeral, our neighbor came to Dad and\napologized for being party to a wrongly-brought lawsuit.&nbsp; He knew his\nfriends had received judgment for their actions and their words against Dad.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>It\nwas a lesson those folks in Nome never forgot -- not while we were there at\nleast.&nbsp; Dad and Mom were suddenly everyone's best friend.&nbsp; After\nlaboring to gain acceptance in the community and have a real door of utterance\nwith the people, folks suddenly wanted to be &quot;friends&quot; with this\npreacher who had power and authority with God.<\/span><span style='font-size:\n12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Though\nhe never accepted the Lord -- at least while we were still in Nome -- our\nneighbor's attitude towards us did a 180-degree turnabout.&nbsp; When I\nreturned to Nome in the mid-1960's to minister, he was still there, running his\nhardware business.&nbsp; His attitude towards me was that of an old friend glad\nto see me back.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;\nline-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>This\nis where we will stop for today.&nbsp;
