ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: UNDERSTANDING PROPHECY III<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

December 16, 2016<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s see if we can cover a continuing picture of the\npurpose of prophecy.\u00a0 <\/span>We began this topic\na couple weeks ago, and I\u2019d like to wrap it up today if at all possible.\u00a0 <\/span>We will continue our picture from the 23rd<\/sup>\nPsalm Adventure the first week of January.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

From the very beginning, going\nback to Adam and Eve\u2019s departure from the Garden, prophecies were given to show\nmankind the fulfillment of Jesus\u2019 purpose.\u00a0\n<\/span>Any prophecies given along the way were fragments of the Plan.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Human nature is really blind!\u00a0 <\/span>Throughout history, the Lord has sent His\nservants to guide and direct His people; to steer them toward His goal and\npurpose of ultimate union.\u00a0 <\/span>Yet, whenever\npeople have heard the Word of the Lord, they have grabbed it piecemeal, taking\nsegments of verses of Scripture, taking verses or even chapters out of context.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Context, you see is the whole picture<\/b> of what Jesus Christ is\nup to.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let me draw some examples for you\nfrom Scripture so you can understand what I mean.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider Moses.\u00a0 <\/span>After he led the children of Israel out of\nbondage in Egypt, the Lord took him \u2013 and Israel \u2013 to Mount Sinai.\u00a0 <\/span>Here, the Lord appeared to all Israel in the\nform of a cloud, in the form of fire, and with a voice that sounded to the\npeople like thunder.\u00a0 <\/span>Ever wonder why?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Israel had been in bondage in\nEgypt for roughly 400 years.\u00a0 <\/span>Generation\nafter generation after generation of people had grown up as slaves, subjected\nto cruel authority exercised in many generations of Pharaohs who succeeded the\nHyksos dynasty (e.g., the Pharaoh in power during Joseph\u2019s era).\u00a0 <\/span>The mental and psychological preconditioning\nthat takes place in people when they are subjected to slavery for generations\nwarps their whole psyche.\u00a0 <\/span>It bends and distorts\ntheir outlook on life.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

(The same thing happens to people\nwho are on government hand-out programs for extended periods.\u00a0 <\/span>Sorry.\u00a0\n<\/span>That\u2019s some commentary on our bloated government.) Authority becomes\niconic.\u00a0 <\/span>Symbols replace reality.\u00a0 <\/span>Normal thought processes become subverted and\nperverted with unreal expectations.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Indeed, this is what Moses had to\ncontend with when leading an estimated six million people out of Egypt.\u00a0 <\/span>So, with this in mind, the Lord directed\nMoses to lead Israel to the foot of Mount Sinai to prepare them for\nunderstanding His purposes in and for them.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

How did He do it?\u00a0 <\/span>Through signs and wonders.\u00a0 <\/span>Through prophecy.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

At first glance, this sounds\nwacko!\u00a0 <\/span>How on earth can prophecy\ncommunicate the heart of the Lord and His purposes to a people with a slave\nmentality?\u00a0 <\/span>For the Lord, it was\nsimplicity personified.\u00a0 <\/span>He used signs\nand wonders to get through the truth-resistant exteriors.\u00a0 <\/span>He used symbols and icons.\u00a0 <\/span>He used virtual reality to demonstrate what\nwas to be.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let me explain.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

From the beginning, Jesus Christ\nhas had a Plan for a people who would be His people.\u00a0 <\/span>The entrance of sin in the earth did not\ncatch Him off guard.\u00a0 <\/span>In fact, He planned\nfor it.\u00a0 <\/span>As part of this great Plan, He\nordained that a people, who were no people, would be redeemed from sin,\novercome it, the devil, and their natural fleshly desires, and become an\nexample for all peoples of the earth of His love, His Plan and purpose.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Israel was integral to this\nPlan.\u00a0 <\/span>They were not a cohesive people at\nthis point in time.\u00a0 <\/span>What better choice,\ntherefore, than to take them, mold them, give them purpose and a vision of the\nfuture, and make of them a nation that would rule with authority in the earth!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Again, how do you do that?\u00a0 <\/span>You start with a vision and a visible\nimage.\u00a0 <\/span>A temple!\u00a0 <\/span>The Lord, therefore, took Moses up to the top\nof Mount Sinai for a total of 80 days in two 40-day periods.\u00a0 <\/span>While there, Moses was allowed to see into\nHeaven.\u00a0 <\/span>The Lord showed him a\ntemple.\u00a0 <\/span>Now, this temple was not an\nobjective in itself, it was simply a prophecy in picture form.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Broken into three sections, this\ntemple had an outer court with a gate.\u00a0\n<\/span>That outer court represented the place of redemption, the place of\nsacrifices and burnt offerings.\u00a0 <\/span>In other\nwords, it was a very real picture of salvation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Next, was the Holy Place, with the\ngolden candlestick, the altar of incense and the table of showbread.\u00a0 <\/span>It was a graphic portrayal of the developing\nof a relationship between the Lord and His people.\u00a0 <\/span>The golden candlestick represented a people\nin love with the Lord, giving forth a light that burned from an oil rendered\nfrom a crushing process.\u00a0 <\/span>Thus, the\ncandlestick was, all by itself, a prophecy of what God\u2019s people would go\nthrough.\u00a0 <\/span>I won\u2019t try to go into all of\nthe other representations and their prophetic impact in the Holy Place \u2013 at\nleast for now.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Finally, there was the Holy of\nHolies.\u00a0 <\/span>It contained the Ark of the\nCovenant.\u00a0 <\/span>The Holy of Holies was\nseparated from the Holy Place by a thick veil.\u00a0\n<\/span>The Holy of Holies was prophetic of the intimacy to come between the\nLord Jesus Christ and His people \u2013 His Bride.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Entrance through that veil was\nrestricted to the High Priest, who was a picture of the Bride of Christ, and he\ncame by invitation from the Lord.\u00a0 <\/span>The\nHigh Priest was prophetic of a people to come \u2013 a people who would become kings\nand priests unto God.\u00a0 <\/span>They would enter\nthat place of intimacy by virtue of a covenant of marriage with the Lord.\u00a0 <\/span>They were His, and He was theirs.\u00a0 <\/span>They were One!\u00a0 <\/span>Or so the prophecy foretold.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Again, let me reiterate.\u00a0 <\/span>The temple was a prophecy in the form of an\nimage that would stand in the midst of a people as a living testimony of what\nwas to be.\u00a0 <\/span>In Moses\u2019 case, he was\ndirected to make a portable copy of the temple for the sake of a people who\nwould be on the move continually throughout the next forty years.\u00a0 <\/span>The Tabernacle, as it was referred to, was\nnot particularly elegant in outer appearance, but it served exactly the same\npurpose as the Temple served when Solomon later constructed it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Neither the Tabernacle nor the\nTemple were ever intended to become a thing of permanence in the earth.\u00a0 <\/span>Each simply represented the prophetic promise\nof the Lord of that which was to come: true, intimate relationship between\nJesus Christ and His Bride, His Holy People!\u00a0\n<\/span>The Tabernacle\/Temple was a sign to a nation, and to an onlooking\nworld.\u00a0 <\/span>That this prophetic emblem had\nserved its purpose was clearly demonstrated on the day Jesus was\ncrucified.\u00a0 <\/span>The veil separating the Holy\nof Holies from the Holy Place was ripped in two, from top to bottom.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It is a sad commentary from\nhistory that Caiaphas, the High Priest, disavowed the miracle of prophetic\nfulfillment, and had the veil stitched back together.\u00a0 <\/span>Not until Caiaphas was on his death bed did\nhe acknowledge that he had erred, and that Jesus Christ was the Son of God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

However, the vision of the Temple,\nand the instruction to make a portable copy in the Tabernacle, were not the\nwhole purpose of Moses\u2019 trip(s) into the mountain.\u00a0 <\/span>Ten Commandments were given to Moses as the\nfoundation of a Law for the children of Israel.\u00a0\n<\/span>These Ten Commandments were \u2013 again \u2013 a prophecy of that which was to\ncome.\u00a0 <\/span>The first three commandments were\nvertical in nature.\u00a0 <\/span>We refer to them as\nvertical because they deal exclusively with our relationship with the\nLord.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That relationship takes priority\nover the horizontal, making every one of us subject to God, exclusive of how we\nrelate to each other.\u00a0 <\/span>In fact, we can\nsay that if the vertical relationship is not in order, the horizontal\nrelationship will likewise be out of order.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The first three commandments were\nsummed up by the scribe who, when answering Jesus, said, <\/span>\u201cThou\nshalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with\nall thy strength, and with all thy mind.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The last seven were horizontal in\nnature.\u00a0 <\/span>We refer to them as horizontal\nbecause each of them deals with the way in which we relate to one another on an\nearthly or human plane.\u00a0 <\/span>That same scribe\nsummed them up with, <\/span>\u201cand thy neighbor as thy self.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Put the Ten Commandments together,\nsuperimposing the seven horizontal over the three vertical, and they form a\ncross.\u00a0 <\/span>Once again we have an emblematic\nprophecy.\u00a0 <\/span>It foretold Jesus crucifixion\nand death on the cross, and the end of the Law.\u00a0\n<\/span>Since the purpose of the Law was to bring all to Christ, its purpose was\nfulfilled in His coming, His death on the cross, and His resurrection.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

For those who had eyes to see, and\nears to hear what the Spirit of God was saying, the Law of Moses was a picture\nof human behavior when true relationship with the Lord was established.\u00a0 <\/span>The Law portrayed the kind of perfection that\nhad existed in the Garden with Adam and Eve, and it foretold a return to that\nperfect relationship.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Think about King David for a minute.\u00a0 <\/span>He saw past the Law.\u00a0 <\/span>He saw its purpose.\u00a0 <\/span>He saw \u2013 and believed \u2013 the prophecy that\nwould be fulfilled when it was completed in the coming Messiah.\u00a0 <\/span>The Scriptures refer to David as \u201ca man after\nGod\u2019s own heart.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Because David saw by\nFaith and believed with every fiber of his existence, the mercy of the Lord was\nextended to him over and above the Law.\u00a0\n<\/span>According to the Law of Moses, he should have been put to death for some\nof the sins he committed, yet the Lord not only had mercy on him, He fulfilled\nthe promise of the coming Messiah in David\u2019s seed.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Both the Tabernacle and the Temple\nwere prophetic pictures \u2013 visual images that demonstrated the purpose of Jesus\nChrist.\u00a0 <\/span>The Law was given as a prophecy\nto be walked out in the lives of the children of Israel until its purpose was\nfulfilled.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There has always been only one Plan.\u00a0\n<\/span>There has always been only one Purpose.\u00a0\n<\/span>Jesus never had a \u201cPlan B\u201d if \u201cPlan A\u201d didn\u2019t succeed.\u00a0 <\/span>There has never been a chance that His Plan\nand Purpose would not be fulfilled.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The Tabernacle\/Temple testified of Jesus Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>The Law testified of Jesus Christ.\u00a0 <\/span>Thus, as we have previously discussed, the\ntestimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now\nlet me head a different direction with this discussion.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The Body of Christ has been caught\nin a quandary with the unfolding events of the past couple of years.\u00a0 <\/span>Leaders within the church world are\nprophesying doom and gloom.\u00a0 <\/span>One\nprominent TV preacher, whose name shall go unmentioned in this discussion,\nprophesied \u201cblood running in the streets\u201d (to the horses\u2019 bridles?) commencing\nin March of 2003.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

.\u00a0\n<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

While the Iraqi war certainly had\nits casualties, we would have to call the war President Bush referred to as\n\u201cOperation Iraqi Freedom\u201d as one of the most bloodless wars in the\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>history of modern warfare.\u00a0 <\/span>Fought in record time, this war moved troops,\ntanks and war machines over a greater distance than any army has ever\naccomplished in the annals of warfare, taking territory and subduing the\nenemy.\u00a0 <\/span>It is not necessary for me to\nrehash the events of this war, or to get into all the statistics.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Suffice it to say that all the\npredictions \u2013 many of which were based on horrible mistranslations and\nmisapplications of prophecies in Revelation and Daniel \u2013 fell flat.\u00a0 <\/span>Despite the \u201cgloom and doomers,\u201d Iraq is fighting\nthe odds and on the verge of becoming a very free nation \u2013 free from ISIS, and\na symbol of peace and democracy in the Middle East.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

False prophecy has led many of\nGod\u2019s people down the primrose path.\u00a0 <\/span>The\nhallmark of the true messenger of the Lord \u2013 sent to speak in the \u201cname\u201d or <\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b>of the Lord \u2013 is that\nthe Word is absolutely accurate in every respect.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider the Word of the Lord\nspoken through Jeremiah.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>\u201cFor among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait,\nas he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Who indeed are these \u201cwicked\nmen\u201d?\u00a0 <\/span>Simply put, they are none other\nthan those who prophesy falsely in the \u201cname of the Lord.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>The trap they set for God\u2019s people is to\ncreate a scenario that stirs them to busyness and activities which keep them\nfrom really knowing the Lord Jesus Christ and enjoying a truly intimate\nrelationship.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The \u201csnares\u201d they set are rooted\nin Scripture verses, taken out of context, and used to make God\u2019s people engage\nin fruitless endeavors in the mistaken belief that they are \u201cpreparing for\nevents that lie ahead.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>The seduction of\nthis use of Scripture is that it causes people who heed these lying prophecies\nto believe they are walking in the will of God, that they are serving Him, and\nthat there is a long-term purpose.\u00a0 <\/span>Many\nare led to believe that they are fulfilling an important role in the Kingdom of\nGod, that what they do will usher in \u201cThe Millennium.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This use of Scripture \u201ccatches\u201d\n(snares) men and women.\u00a0 <\/span>Because their\nrelationship with the Lord is based on the knowledge of some Scripture(s)\ninstead of the knowledge of Jesus Christ Himself, they are caught in a trap.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\u2019s no way I\u2019m going to wrap\nthis up today.\u00a0 <\/span>To do so would turn this\ninto an epistle, so let\u2019s pick this up the week after Christmas and we will\nwrap it during the last week of December.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
