ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: GOING BEYOND, Part 8<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/p>\n\n

We left off in this series the week before Christmas talking\nabout baptisms, and specifically the baptism of fire. I'd like to wrap that up\ntoday and then try to move on to the fourth item in the list of foundations\nthat Paul makes reference to in Hebrews 6 -- the laying on of hands. As a\nrefresher, however, let's revisit Hebrews 6:1-3, and then continue from there.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Hebrews\n6:1-3, RAC Translation & Amplification<\/span><\/u>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Therefore,\nand as a consequence, it is critically important that we forsake [what Jesus\nhas already eradicated from existence] the beginnings and commencement of the\n[initiating] Word of the Anointed One and His Anointing (Jesus Christ),<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Let us move forward energetically to the place of completion and\nconsummation; not laying down [or setting in front of you as a continual\nrequirement] the legalistic requirement to repent, and re-do your thought\nprocesses concerning the old, dead works and requirements of the Law [as though\nit were necessary in order to attain redemption from past sins or iniquities],\nunder the guise that this builds faith in and toward God, the line-upon-line,\nprecept-upon-precept instruction in the purification processes in baptisms, the\nnecessity of laying on of hands (for impartation or conveyance of power), [the\nfoundational truth that Jesus provides] resurrection from the dead and\ncancelation of the curse of death, and \u2014 finally \u2014 the understanding and\nrevelation of the judgment and decrees that exist throughout the eternity of\nthe eternities.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And this is what we will be enabled to do conditional upon God\u2019s\ntransfer of authority, granting license and liberty to move past these\nfoundations.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nleft off in Part 7 talking about the things that Paul experienced, the\novercoming processes worked in him through persecution, through tribulation --\nthrough the fire -- as Holy Spirit worked in him the character and nature of\nthe Lord Jesus Christ. Everything we see recorded in these passages from Paul\u2019s\nletters to the Corinthians came in the midst of his total, unreserved,\nunabashed responsiveness to the direction of Holy Spirit. The fire that bathed\nPaul allowed him to lay the same foundations and patterns for growth and\ndevelopment in believers that we walk in today!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\nimpartations he left behind him produced a global Ekklesia<\/span>\nthat saw growth patterns in Rome alone exceeding 50,000 new believers \u2014\nbelievers who gladly and willingly went to the fires, the lions and the\ngladiators in the \u201cgames\u201d that cost them their lives.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

THAT,\nfolks, can only come when there is a genuine impartation of the life of Jesus\nChrist in people. Where there is the baptism of fire, there is true revelation!\nBefore we move on, let\u2019s finish the discussion from Paul\u2019s letter to Timothy\nwhere we began this discussion a couple weeks ago.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\nBaptism of Fire produces testing \u2014 testing of the word in a practical\ndimension. It takes away the theoretical and replaces theory, academia and\nsupposition with experience; and that kind of experience is never subject to\nthe whims, the ideas, the wants, the \u201chope-so\u2019s<\/span>\u201d and\nthe deviations in doctrine that are the by-product of theory.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Paul\nadmonishes Timothy to be a<\/span> <\/span>\u201ctried and tested laborer who has no fear of being examined\u201d<\/span> <\/span>or\nchallenged by wily, deceitful men (and women) with their clever arguments\ndesigned to water down the truth so as to escape the fire of the Word,\nnecessary to produce the living, demonstrable life of the Lord Jesus Christ in\nus.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

He\nphrases his description of these religious arguments<\/span> as advancing ungodliness\n which produces a \u201cgangrene pasture\u201d \u2014 a source of spiritual, physical and\n emotional poison.<\/span>\n <\/o:p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Consider\n what the infiltration of these watered-down doctrines has done to the body of\n Christ. We have had century after century after century of wanna<\/span>-be\n representatives of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God who name the\n name but have no power to back up what they preach.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

It\u2019s\nbeen OK to have pastors and missionaries, but woe be unto you if you promote\napostles and prophets! There has been a brand of grace preached which allows\npeople to continue on in their sin because \u201clove covers a multitude of sins\u201d\nand God\u2019s grace takes care of everything!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

How\ndid the Day of Pentecost manifest to the believers who were all gathered\ntogether<\/span> <\/span>\u201chomothumadon<\/span><\/i><\/span>\u201d?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

[There\u2019s\na 64-dollar Greek word for you! Our English translations say that the 120 were\ngathered together \u201cin one accord,\u201d but the Greek word used in the original text\n\u2014<\/span> <\/span>homothumadon<\/span><\/i><\/span> <\/span>\u2014\nis a contraction of<\/span> <\/span>homou<\/span><\/i><\/span>:<\/span> <\/span>at the\nsame place and at the same time, unanimously<\/span><\/u>,<\/span> and <\/span>thumos<\/span><\/i><\/span>:<\/span> <\/span>great\npassion, breathing hard, breathing with fire.]<\/span><\/u><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

What\ntook place was a literal demonstration with the flame of fire that appeared in\ntheir midst and the individual tongues of fire that sat upon each of them. What\nit produced was fire from their lips in the form of tongues: other languages\nthat they had never previously learned \u2014 and with those tongues \u201cof men and of\nangels\u201d went forth the tongues of fire that set the world ablaze with the\nGospel.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nAzusa Street Revival at the turn of the 20th Century produced the same kinds of\nmanifestations. There was a flame of fire that appeared over the building where\nWilliam Seymour was preaching. It was a fire that the local fire department\ncouldn\u2019t put out despite their best efforts \u2014 one that left the Los Angeles\nFire Department in utter consternation and immediately grabbed the attention of\nthe news media! It produced a couple of generations of people who personally\nset the religious world on fire.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I\nshared with you three weeks ago my grandparents\u2019 experience in 1921 when their\nfarmhouse was filled with the sound of the \u201crushing mighty wind\u201d (my\nGrandmother called it the sound of a tornado), a large flame of fire appeared\nin the middle of the room above the gathered people who were praying, broke\ninto little tongues of fire and set down on the heads of each person. Every\nperson in the room experienced the \u201ctongue\u201d of fire and began to speak in other\ntongues \u2014 languages they had never before learned or heard.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nevent produced a series of events and a generation of people whose changed\nlives \u2014 and the power and authority of the Kingdom that went with them \u2014\nproduced an expansion of the Kingdom of God that is still being felt today.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

From\n1957 through 1960, a flame of fire and a column of light that reached into\nHeaven appeared over the church building I helped my father build as we saw an\nextension of Acts 2 repeated, resulting \u2014 as I shared last week \u2014 a move of God\nand an outpouring of Holy Spirit with people speaking in tongues from eastern\nSiberia through arctic Alaska, across arctic Canada and into Greenland.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme address one last point to consider before we take a different look at this\nbaptism of fire.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

In\nevery instance where we see Holy Spirit baptism, we see speaking in tongues.\nThe grand entrance of Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost was with tongues of\nfire. That was not just symbolism, it marked a singular change for a people in\nfire \u2014 and a people with whom the fire of God would bring change to the world:\nsalvation, and everything that goes with it!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Now,\nconsider something that Peter writes to the body of Christ at large.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I Peter 4:12-13, NASB<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you,\nwhich comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were\nhappening to you; but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ,\nkeep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice\nwith exultation.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Here\u2019s\nanother application of the same terminology that Paul uses in his letter to\nTimothy \u2014 this time Peter is using it. Peter uses the kind of descriptive words\nwhich come out of the refining of precious metals. Where we see the phrase in\nthe NASB, \u201cfiery ordeal\u201d (\u201cfiery trial\u201d KJV), the Greek word is<\/span> <\/span>purosis<\/span><\/i><\/span>:<\/span> <\/span>literally\nmeaning, <\/span>to smelt, to heat to the place of\nconflagration as a test of purity<\/span><\/u>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

For\nthe past century and a half, the body of Christ has been plagued with a\nteaching on escaping what is erroneously referred to as \u201ctribulation\u201d and being\nsnatched out before things get too hot here on earth. Those who have believed\nand propagated this doctrine have placed themselves in direct opposition and\nconflict with something that is absolutely necessary in order for Jesus to have\na holy and purified Bride \u2014 a Bride who, like Jesus, has \u201clearned through the\nthings {she) has suffered.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Take\na quick look at how Paul describes what Jesus went through as our \u201cpattern\nSon.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Hebrews 5:8-9, KJV<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things\nwhich he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal\nsalvation unto all them that obey him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\nsee if we can amplify and clarify this a bit more.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Though He were [the] Son, yet He learned compliance and\nattentive listening by means of those things He experienced [in the testing and\ntrial ]; and being finished \u2014 made whole and complete [through that testing] \u2014\nHe became the author \u2014 that One who caused and brought about the access to \u2014\nsalvation, deliverance, wholeness, safety, health and prosperity throughout the\neternity of the eternities. <\/span>Hebrews 5:8-9 <\/span><\/u><\/b>(RAC Translation\n& Amplification)<\/span><\/u>:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

OK?\nDoes that help?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

This\nbaptism of fire is not strange in the least! Jesus went through it before us so\nthat we would have this as our pattern, and know that if we are going to become\nobedient to Him as the firstborn Son (who Himself was totally obedient to\nFather), the baptism of fire is something we must all embrace and run towards\nrather than run from.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Holy\nSpirit\u2019s Baptism of Fire is NOT for our undoing or our destruction, it is for\nour deliverance from everything which impedes and obstructs our relationship\nwith the Lord. It is to prepare us for the kind of rulership<\/span>\nthat awaits \u2014 and that rulership<\/span> is not in \u201cthe sweet\nbye and bye,\u201d it is for the here and now.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

We\nhave been designed to rule and reign. We have been designed for dominion. We\nhave a destiny as kings and priests. Our role as priests, of course is as\nintercessors for those who are yet to come into the Kingdom, and for those who\nhave awaiting them the same kind of testing and preparation we are currently\nexperiencing.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Here\u2019s\nhow Paul describes this in writing to Timothy.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

II Timothy 2:4-7, KJV<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>No man that warreth<\/span> entangleth<\/span> himself with the affairs of this life; that he\nmay please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. And if a man also strive\nfor masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. The husbandman\nthat laboureth<\/span> must be first partaker of the fruits.\nConsider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve\nbeen chosen and called by Father. We have been chosen and called by the Lord\nJesus Christ. We are in a series of processes designed and prepared for us by\nHoly Spirit, Who is our Paraklete<\/span>, our comforter (in\nthe midst of this preparation), our \u201cdrill sergeant,\u201d and the One who knows\njust how hot the fires must be in order that we be fully prepared, tested and\ntried.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And\nthat brings us back to Paul's instruction to Timothy.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Be instantly responsive to the Lord, making yourself available\nto Him in the midst of the crucible, a tried and tested laborer who has no fear\nof being examined \u2013 one who, by virtue of God\u2019s testing and the time spent in\nthe crucible with Him, knows the proven Word of Truth.<\/span> <\/span>II Timothy 2:15 <\/span><\/u><\/b>(RAC Translation\n& Amplification)<\/span><\/u><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis God\u2019s testing! This is Holy Spirit\u2019s testing!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Our\ntime in the crucible, our time in this baptism of fire \u2014 this trial by fire \u2014\nbrings us to the place where we KNOW the PROVEN WORD OF TRUTH! It is no theory\nto us. It is no religious doctrine.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\ntongues of fire have a deliberate and specific purpose in our lives. Our\nimmersion into the fires of Holy Spirit baptism rids us of everything which\nslants the Word to our comfort and\nwishes. Once we have been there, once we have experienced the fire and the\ntesting and trial that goes with it, we don\u2019t have to guess at what the Word\nmeans or try to make that which has been written fit our understanding: we fit\ninto the Word Himself, and what He says and directs.<\/span>\n<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I\nonce said to the Lord, \u201cWhatever you have to do to me, through me, or in me in\norder for your best to be worked in my life, do it! Even if you have to hit me\nupside the head with a 2 X 4, do it,\nLord!\u201d<\/span>\n<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Ouch!\nI meant it and still do to this day, and I would not trade a minute of the fire\nfor what He has worked in my life. The fire may not be done, but I won\u2019t run\nfrom it!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Looks\nlike we'll have to wait until next week to deal with the foundation we refer to\nas "the laying on of hands." See you then.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
