Let me share a "funny" with you as we get underway\ntoday. I've mentioned our six-year-old granddaughter, Jasmine, a couple of\ntimes over the past months. One night not too long ago, I was praying with\nJasmine as she was going to bed. Because she'd had something of a rough day, I\ndecided to pray with her in the Spirit. We started off praying together (she\nwas following me) in English. When we reached a certain point, I switched and\nbegan praying in tongues.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

When I finished praying, she looked at me and said,\n"Grandpa, what language was that?" I answered her that I didn't have\nany idea. That made no sense to her so she dug a little bit further. "How\ncan you pray in a language you don't know?" "I yield to the Holy\nSpirit and He prays through me. When that happens He prays through me with\nexactly the right words that need to be said."<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Jasmine smiled, looked a bit quizzically at me, and then said,\n"Grandpa, I like it when you do that! It feels really good!" Ever\nsince that, whenever I've prayed with her, she often specifically asks that I\n"use that Angel language!" Kids!! They sure get it -- and often way\nahead of adults!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

It\nwas back in 1949 in Rockford, Illinois, at an Oral Roberts tent crusade that I\nfirst heard the phrase, \u201cPoint of Contact.\u201d In the years that followed, this\nphrase would become a central theme of Oral Roberts\u2019 ministry. It was not until\nthe 1970\u2019s, however, that the impact of what he was teaching really struck home\nfor me. We\u2019ve all become familiar with the statement in the general epistle of\nJames in which he writes:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

James 5:14-15, KJV<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>"Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the\nchurch; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the\nLord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall\nraise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

What\nis missing in the KJV translation is a direct statement that the \u201cpraying over\u201d\nsomeone incorporates the laying on of hands. The more accurate way to read this\nstatement from the Greek is like this:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cAre there any sick or infirm among you? let them pray, laying\nhands upon him, anointing him with oil (and rubbing the oil into him) in the onoma<\/span> (the character, the makeup, the very essence and\nnature) of the Lord: And the covenant command (in prayer) of faith shall save,\nheal, deliver and make whole the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if\nhe has committed sins, they shall be totally eradicated from him.\u201d<\/span> <\/span>(RAC\nTranslation and Amplification)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

What\nJames is getting at is that there is \u201ca point of contact\u201d between the Lord\n(through those praying and laying on hands) and the individual who is sick or\nsuffering. That point of contact becomes the nexus where the power of God moves\ndirectly into the individual, eradicating and eliminating both the disease or\nsickness \u2014 AND the sin which brought about that sickness in the first place.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Oral\nRoberts\u2019 revelation of \u201cthe point of contact\u201d revolutionized his ministry, and\nacting in faith, he literally laid hands on tens of thousands of individuals.\nIn every service of his that I ever attended, every single individual was\nhealed. Blind eyes were opened, deaf ears were unstopped, people who had never\nbeen able to speak suddenly had their voices and could talk, cancers fell off,\nlarge growths (goiters) vanished in an instant, and in some cases, people\nsuddenly lost 50\u2014100 pounds of excess weight. (That was a bit humorous because\nyou saw men and women suddenly grabbing at now grossly-oversize clothing that\nwas falling off.)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

[This\nenvironment of faith, incidentally, is the environment in which Kenneth\nCopeland developed his ministry.]<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\nactual contact between those praying in faith, and those receiving their\nhealing, deliverance, and wholeness can be described as \u201cthe nexus of faith.\u201d\nIt is the point at which the physical power and the authority of God are\nreleased into the receiving individual.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

In\nprevious studies, we have talked about faith as being the actual \u201ctransporter\nmechanism\u201d which carries and moves God\u2019s power from the heavenlies<\/span>\ninto this time-space          realm, making that\nrealm manifest for all who witness it.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

But\nthere\u2019s more to it than that!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Most\nof us have watched Paul Keith Davis, or Chuck Pierce, or one of the other\nprophetic teachers at the end of their time of teaching when they begin to lay\nhands on the people as Holy Spirit directs them. Paul Keith frequently will say\nto the people, \u201cI\u2019m being directed to impart this anointing (for whatever area\nof impartation Holy Spirit happens to be emphasizing at that moment) to you,\nand I\u2019d like for you to form a line in front.\u201d He subsequently has other\nbrethren join him as he either walks across the front laying hands on one\nperson after another, or has people simply pass in front of him as he lays\nhands on them.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Sharing\non a recent Sunday in Fort Worth was my first experience in doing that, and in\nfact, the first time I\u2019ve ever been directed by Holy Spirit to impart specific\nrevelation into folks by the laying on\nof hands. There is a transference by Holy Spirit which defies natural\nexplanation. Sometimes we see specific gifts of the Spirit imparted as a point\nof contact occurs between the one directed by Holy Spirit and the recipient.\nConsider what Paul wrote to Timothy on two separate occasions:<\/span>\n<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I Timothy 1:18, NASB<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>\u201cThis command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance\nwith the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you fight the\ngood fight, keeping faith and a good conscience\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

II Timothy 1:5-7, KJV<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>\u201cWhen I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee,\nwhich dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am\npersuaded that in thee also. \u201cWherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou\nstir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For\nGod hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a\nsound mind.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

In\nthe first instance, Paul notes that Timothy has been commissioned as a warrior\nafter the Spirit. We don\u2019t have a specific indication that this prophecy came\nwith the laying on of hands, but in the second letter to Timothy Paul makes\nclear the fact that the gift of faith<\/span> <\/span>\u201cthat is in thee\u201d \u2026 \u201cis in thee by the laying on of my hands.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Since\nfaith, and the warring by faith noted in the first letter, is the same gift\nPaul refers to in his second letter, it takes no great stretch of imagination\nto realize that Timothy received an impartation of the gift of faith when Paul\nlaid his hands on him and prophesied over him.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nwhat Paul writes to the Corinthians in his first epistle to them:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I Corinthians 12:1, 4-11, RAC Translation &\nAmplification<\/span><\/u><\/b>: \u201cNow with respect to spiritual impartations and manifestations<\/span> <\/span>(<\/span>pneumatikos<\/span><\/i><\/span>:<\/span> <\/span><\/b>literally,\nspirituals),<\/span> <\/span>my\nbrethren, I don\u2019t want you to lack understanding\u2026<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cNow there are divisions \u2014 distinct differences \u2014 of spiritual\nfaculties, endowments, qualifications and gifts, but the same breath of Holy\nSpirit [breathing them]. And there are varieties of modes of service and means\nof administration, but it is the same Lord [in control]. And there are the same\ndistinct [displays and manifestations] of supernatural energy, and it is still\nthe same God effecting the workings of it all. The exhibition and bestowed\nexpression of Holy Spirit is delivered and made available to each man or woman\nfor the collective advancement and betterment of all [the members of the body].<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cFor to one is bestowed (with the striking of the hand [and in\nsome instances], the palm of the hand) the divine expression of wisdom; to\nanother, the divine release of knowledge and [even] scientific understanding by\nthe same Holy Spirit; To another individual, faith, conviction and constancy to\npersuade (and extend the Kingdom) by the same Holy Spirit; and to another the\nmiraculous faculty and endowment of healing by the same Holy Spirit;<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cTo yet another is given the divine energy to put on display\nforce, miraculous power and strength; to another the ability to see [things to\ncome, events, people] and prophetically decree; to another the capacity to\ndetect, discern, and distinguish spirit beings [operating within individuals];\nTo yet another the ability to speak in a variety of languages previously not\nlearned or acquired; and to another the miraculous ability to interpret and\ntranslate to the hearers [those same languages]: But all these gifts that same\nHoly Spirit energizes and activates, distributing to everyone (often in\nmultiples) as He purposes and is so minded.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Whewww<\/span><\/span>!!! That\u2019s a\nmouthful, I know, but there\u2019s a fistful of revelation encompassed in this\nteaching by Paul.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

You\u2019ll\nnotice the rather unusual statement that occurs when he begins with the Word of\nWisdom and the Word of Knowledge. Here, the Greek text uses an application of\nthe word, <\/span>didomi<\/span><\/i><\/span>,<\/span> <\/span>which\nmeans in this instance:<\/span> <\/span>to impart, to deliver, to bestow with the striking of the hand,\nor (in some cases) the palm of the hand.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

This\ncertainly is not the traditional idea of \u201cthe laying on of hands\u201d as we would\napply it. Let me give you some \u2014 shall we refer to them as \u201cbizarre\u201d \u2014 cases in\nwhich Holy <\/span>Spirit has directed this kind\n of extraordinary action on the part of the individual imparting a gift from the\n Lord.<\/span>\n <\/o:p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Those\nof you who remember the Lakeland Revival back in 2009 and 2010 will remember\nTodd Bentley striking someone in the stomach with his hand and seeing the\nindividual healed of stomach cancer instantly. There were several instances in\nwhich Todd struck people in different places as healing, deliverance and\nrevelation were imparted to them.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

It\nsounds radical, and it almost seems cruel and abusive \u2014 and it would be if the\nindividual who was being struck experienced hurt or pain \u2014 but in each case no\npain was felt and each person received their complete and instant healing.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I\nthink of the instance in Lethbridge<\/span>, Alberta a few\nyears ago when Della and I participated in a Seder Dinner for Passover. There\nwas a gentleman there who had been dumb all of his life, and unable to speak\nclearly. The Lord sent a man into Lethbridge<\/span> to seek\nout this man for his healing, his deliverance from this affliction, and his\nability to speak the Word of the Lord clearly to all who would hear him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

When\nthe two met, the prophet asked the dumb man to stick out his tongue. The\nprophet then coughed up some massive phlegm, took the spit, put it on the man\u2019s\ntongue and told him to swallow it. Sounds insane, doesn\u2019t it? Definitely \u201cout\nof the box!\u201d The man obeyed without hesitation and was instantly healed. He\nbecame an outstanding preacher and teacher of the Word as Holy Spirit not only\nset him free from his affliction, but imparted to him revelation and\nunderstanding of the Lord Jesus Christ!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

On\nat least two occasions I have seen healing imparted to the deaf as the one\nministering boxed the ears of the deaf man with his fists. On numerous other\noccasions I have seen the deaf healed and\/or the blind eyes opened when the one\nministering poked his fingers into the ears or the eyes.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

We\nall tend to have mental blocks over the instruction of Holy Spirit. We analyze,\nwe reason, we calculate, we justify our lack of responsiveness to Him because\nwhat He commands either doesn\u2019t fit our traditional understanding, or it may\ncause us to look like weirdoes to onlookers, or because it makes us feel\nself-conscious, or because it just isn\u2019t logical! More often than not, we have\nreligious doctrines or traditions that interfere with our responses.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Holy\nSpirit is not weird! Holy Spirit is not trying to embarrass or make us look\nstupid. What He IS LOOKING FOR is unabashed and instantaneous obedience to His\npromptings. The results of obedience always manifest in the supernatural.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Many\nof you have heard me use this expression, and I\u2019ve said this time and time\nagain throughout the years: God\u2019s objective is to make us become naturally\nsupernatural, and supernaturally natural!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\ndon\u2019t mean it as a clich\u00e9, but if we are to become the living Word in flesh, we\nhave to be ready to do whatever Holy Spirit directs \u2014 no matter how silly or\nhow strange it may seem!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

One\nlast item that I need to cover before we wrap up this portion of our study.\nConsider again something that Paul writes to Timothy:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I Peter 5:22, NASB<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>\u201cDo not lay hands upon anyone too hastily and thereby share\nresponsibility for the sins of others; keep yourself free from sin.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\nimpartation that takes place by laying hands on someone can be bi-directional,\nas Paul makes clear in his letter to Timothy. What he is describing is reverse\nimpartation.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Because\nwe ONLY lay hands on people at the specific direction of Holy Spirit for the\npurpose of impartation, and that direction comes as we function and operate IN\nCHRIST, with He IN US, laying hands on someone just because we\u2019ve gotten used\nto doing it can be dangerous \u2014 both to us and to the one we lay hands on. Take\na look at another verse we can apply within the same context.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I Thessalonians 5:12, KJV<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>\u201cAnd we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour<\/span> among you, and are over you in the Lord, and\nadmonish you.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I\nrealize that I\u2019m applying this verse somewhat out of its context in Paul\u2019s\nmessage to the Thessalonians, but this Word strikes to the heart of the\nnecessity of having revelation by the Spirit of those who minister among you\nand with you.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

In\n1973, Derek Prince was ministering at a conference at Carleton College in Santa\nAna, California. He made the statement that he did not allow anyone to lay\nhands upon him whom he did not know by the Spirit, and whose ministry or doctrinal\nbeliefs flowed counter to that which Holy Spirit was giving him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

It\nis a position Della and I have taken for many years. We do not allow folks to\nlay hands on us for the sake of impartation of healing or ministry of any kind\nwho we do not know by the Spirit of God, lest we become a partaker of some area\nof unbelief or doubt in them, or if they hold strong doctrinal positions\ncontrary to everything the Lord has built within us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Wrapping\nup this area of study, this may seem like a strange application, but take a\nlook at a couple things that David writes in the Psalms:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Psalm 8:4-6, KJV<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>"What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of\nman, that thou visitest<\/span> him? For thou hast made him a\nlittle lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour<\/span>. Thou madest<\/span> him to have\ndominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his\nfeet:"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

What\ngets revealed here is the fact that the Lord has entrusted us with the \u201cwork of\nHis hands:\u201d hence, when we lay hands on people, we do so acting on His behalf,\nand in Him!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Psalm 144:1-2, KJV<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>"Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth<\/span>\nmy hands to war, and my fingers to fight: My goodness, and my fortress; my high\ntower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth<\/span> my people under me."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I\nfrequently quote this verse in conjunction with the prophetic use of my hands\nand fingers in playing on the guitar and other instruments. My hands become His\nhands in conducting warfare and bringing down enemy strongholds.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve\nrun long and we're out of time. I could take this a lot farther, but this is as\ngood a place as any to wrap up. This is foundational to us. We must know and\nuse our hands with wisdom and revelation!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
