ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: A REVELATION OF GOD'S GLORY, Part 3<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Last week's Coffee Break kind of scratched the surface in\ndealing with the four Hebrew letters that make up the name, the onoma<\/span>, the sh\u00e9m<\/span>, the very\ncharacter and nature of the Lord God. I would really like to expand more on\nthat picture, and perhaps we can take another look in the weeks to come, but\nthis week let's consider the very nature of the Glory.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\nbegin today's sharing by looking at some of the specific prophecies that have\nbeen given to us throughout the Word.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Numbers\n14:21<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>But as<\/i> truly as<\/i> I live, all\nthe earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Habakkuk\n2:14<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of\nthe LORD, as the waters cover the sea.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Isaiah\n40:3-5<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>The voice of him that crieth<\/span> in the\nwilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a\nhighway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and\nhill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough\nplaces plain: And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh\nshall see it<\/i> together: for the mouth of the LORD hath\nspoken it<\/i>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nget something of a picture of these statements in John the Baptist\u2019s preaching\nin the wilderness as he quotes from Isaiah\u2019s prophecy:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Luke\n3:4-6<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias<\/span>\nthe prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the\nway of the Lord, make his paths straight. Every valley shall be filled,\nand every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made\nstraight, and the rough ways shall be<\/i> made smooth; And\nall flesh shall see the salvation of God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nGreek text of Luke uses a word which most English translations render as\n\u201csalvation\u201d rather than \u201cglory,\u201d but J.H. Thayer,<\/b> in his\nGreek-English Lexicon renders the word, <\/span>soterion<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> (which comes\nfrom <\/span>soteria<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,<\/span> which in turn\nis extrapolated from sozo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>)\nlike this (and I\u2019ve edited it a bit to reflect the present tense): <\/span>The sum of benefits and blessings which\nChristians, redeemed from all earthly ills, enjoy [in] Christ in the\nconsummated and eternal kingdom of God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That <\/span>\u201csum of benefits and blessings\u201d<\/span> is illustrated\nin the Hebrew word, <\/span>kabod<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,<\/span> which\nis often rendered \u201cweighty.\u201d But it goes beyond that. You may remember how\nAbraham was described as he left Egypt:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Genesis\n13:1-2<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and\nall that he had<\/u>, and Lot with him, into the south. And Abram was<\/i> very\nrich in cattle, in silver, and in gold<\/u>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Dr.\nWilliam Gesenius<\/span>, in his Hebrew-Chaldee<\/span>\nLexicon, defines <\/span>kabod<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> like this:      <\/span>to be made heavy, be honoured<\/span>,\nenjoy honour<\/span>, be made abundant, to be glorious, to\nhave splendor; numerous, rich, honorable; to make weighty.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

To\nthese definitions, we could add: to be made highly visible, to provoke awe and\ngreat respect.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\ndescription of Abraham indicates a weight of great wealth and abundance. Where\nthe KJV uses the word \u201crich\u201d to describe Abraham, the Hebrew uses a derivative\nof <\/span>kabod<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>: kabad<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>:<\/span> which adds to\nthe meaning of <\/span>kabod<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>:<\/span> <\/span>to be promoted to honor, to have been made\nweighty [with nobility]<\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

All\nof these terms are defining of the word, glory, but there\u2019s a whole lot more\nthat words don\u2019t capture. There's an old clich\u00e9 you've all heard, and this is\none place it really applies: "A picture is worth a thousand\nwords."<\/i> When you have seen the Glory of the Lord -- even one time\n-- there are not enough words in the dictionary to really adequately describe\nwhat you've seen.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nsaid, consider a picture in words that Isaiah draws when he begins to prophesy\nconcerning the Glory of the Lord being revealed in the earth. I will begin with\nthe conventional KJV translation, and then expand upon that translation from\nthe Hebrew.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A\nquick note before we get there -- and it seems like I've shared this before --\nrabbinical scholars have told me that there are not less than seven layers of\ninterpretation and depiction in every prophetic utterance in Scripture. One\nrabbi recently suggested to me that there were not less than twelve. In any\ncase, this prophecy is filled with metaphors, as you will quickly see.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Isaiah\n60:1-7<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD\nis risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and\ngross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory\nshall be seen upon thee.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the\nbrightness of thy rising. Lift up thine<\/span> eyes\nround about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee:\nthy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy<\/i> side.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Then thou shalt<\/span> see, and flow\ntogether, and thine<\/span> heart shall fear, and be\nenlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the\nforces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian<\/span> and Ephah<\/span>; all they from\nSheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall show forth\nthe praises of the LORD.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

All the flocks of Kedar<\/span> shall be\ngathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth<\/span>\nshall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and\nI will glorify the house of my glory.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nprophecy is filled with Hebrew metaphors that get lost when translated\nliterally, word by word. We\u2019re going to run long, but let\u2019s take this\nstep-by-step and amplify this prophecy out of the Hebrew.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Stand up! Accomplish, confirm and decree the dawn, the break of\nday \u2014 that moment when light overwhelms the darkness! That light has been\nintroduced to the world and reached maturity in you and the splendor, the\nweight, the glory and honor of the Lord now irradiates you!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

See and consider the misery, the destruction, the sorrow, the\nwickedness, the ignorance and death that will cover the earth, and the\nimpenetrable gloom the people: but God Himself will manifest on you irradiating\nand exposing His light, His life, His character and makeup; and His splendor,\nHis weight, His glory and His honor will be visible and discerned as inhabiting\nyou.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That will cause the masses, the heathen, the nations of the\nworld to be drawn and come, desiring to be conversant with that brightness,\nthat revelation of the Lord that is in and upon you; and kings, royalty, heads\nof state and leaders of every kind will come, desiring to receive the light of\nthe revelation now coming forth from you.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

[Forget the past! Stop focusing on what was, and what you have\nseen in the past!] Pay attention now to what is taking place around you. See?\nThey are all gathering around and assembling before you! They are coming to\nyou! Do you see them? Your sons, your grandsons, your great-grandsons \u2014 all\nthose whom you have nourished in the past \u2014 are coming from remote and distant\nplaces; your daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters are returning\nto receive the impartation of faith and trust [so there will be a permanence of\nthat revelatory character they see in you.]<\/span> <\/span><\/b>(Isaiah 60:1-4, RAC\nTranslation & Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When that takes place, you will see and be utterly astounded at\nthe overflow of joy that will flood all of you; your heart, your soul, your\nunderstanding will be awestricken, and your mental restrictions \u2014 (your\nreligious boxes) \u2014 will be broken; [the scope of your understanding will be\ngreatly enlarged] because the masses and wealth of many peoples<\/span>\nwill suddenly turn to your favor (those who have opposed you will be\noverturned, and the attitudes of those who\u2019ve doubted who you really are (and\nyour integrity in God) will utterly change as they are converted; the wealth,\nthe power, and the efficient might of the nations will turn to you, resorting\nto you as their strength.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Companies of laborers with their burden-bearers will cover [your\nneeds]; the young, burdened with contention and gloom will come; they of the\nCovenant will bring you their gold and their sweet-smelling incense; all of\nthese will come together, publicly giving thanks and singing the praises and\nadoration of the Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

All those flocks who have been in darkness and gloom will gather\nand assemble around you; [at the same time] those who are strong and abound\nwith fruit will attend to your needs, ministering to every aspect of your life:\nwith joy and pleasure will they come to offer sacrifices (of praise), and I\nwill embellish, vaunt and beautify the family \u2014 MY family \u2014 whom I shall honor\nwith majesty.<\/span> <\/span><\/b>(Isaiah 60:5-7, RAC\nTranslation and Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nGlory of the Lord is NOT passive by any means. Not only does it change the\natmosphere and environment around us, it has a very creative, drawing power. It\ndraws people into the presence of the Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One\nthing I have found as a constant, and that is that God\u2019s Glory always becomes\nvisible. Consider for a minute a couple of statements that Jesus made.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John\n14:12-14<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the\nworks that I do shall he do also; and greater works<\/i> than these\nshall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my\nname, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall\nask any thing in my name, I will do it<\/i>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nworks that Jesus did brought Glory to Father, but that Glory was also revealed\nin the Son, Jesus Himself. Jesus made it clear that our asking for ANYTHING in\nJesus' onoma<\/span> (not simply in His name, using the name,\nJesus, (or Yeshua<\/span>) like some kind of magic formula)\nwas His purpose and desire, and that the very asking -- accompanied by the\nanswer -- would manifest God's Glory.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

You\nrealize, of course, in what Jesus just stated that the works that He did were\nalmost a foretaste of that which is to come in the people of God! Greater works?\nGreater than what everyone saw Jesus do? Yessiree<\/span>!!\nBuckle your seatbelts, folks! You ain't<\/span> seen nothin<\/span>' yet!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then\nthere is the statement He made as He prepared to ascend into Heaven:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Mark\n16:15-18<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the\ngospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but\nhe that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that\nbelieve; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new\ntongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it\nshall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nvisibility of the Glory is manifested in the signs, the wonders, the displays\nof healing, of miracles, of communication. But it goes beyond the realm of the\nmiraculous \u2014 at least that which we treat as miraculous.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A\nyear ago last fall, as Rich Warren and I were leading worship at the Miracle\nRanch men\u2019s retreat over on the Olympic Peninsula, the presence of the Lord\nbecame tangible in the room. Because the weather was cool, the very large\nfireplace near the center of the main wall was lit, and logs were burning.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\nroom began to fill with what at first appeared to be a haze. There was no smoke\nodor, however, and a careful glance at the fireplace made clear the fact that\nwhat we were witnessing was not smoke. The haze remained just that. It was\nfairly light \u2014 not thick and overpowering \u2014 but we became aware that what we\nwere seeing was a manifestation of the presence of the Lord. A peace flooded\nthe atmosphere such that it quieted the whole place. No one moved and no one\nuttered so much as a word for a good ten minutes. You could have heard a pin\ndrop.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Not\nuntil the men left the building later that night did they begin to talk about\nit. It was the first time any of us had ever witnessed anything like it, and\nyet we hadn't even scratched the surface of where God is taking us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

There\nis another aspect of the Glory of the Lord as it is seen in the Word, as well\nas in the events that are about to take place in the Bride of Christ in the\ncoming days, weeks and months. That's where we will go next week.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n
