ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: DEALING WITH FEAR, Part 9<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/p>\n

I like days like today. You wake up in the morning, the presence\nof the Lord is there, it\u2019s kind of like Dr. Luther Mieir<\/span>\nused to say, \u201cGood Morning, Lord! Sure glad you\u2019re here.\u201d Now I know some of\nyou wiseacres wake up, wipe the sleepy seeds from your eyes and say, \u201cGood\nLord, it\u2019s morning!\u201d See. It\u2019s like this. You\u2019ve got to change your whole frame\nof mind when you wake up. Hehehehehe<\/span>\u2026\u2026.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Your attitude when you wake up in the morning can affect your\nwork, the words that come out of your mouth\u2026actually, it can change your entire\nday. That\u2019s why today is the best day of my life. Tomorrow will be even better.\nKnow why? Because \u2013 to quote one of my friends \u2013 "God don\u2019t make no junk\ndays!"<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

David\nhad it figured out right when he sang,<\/span> <\/span>\u201cThis is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and\nbe glad in it.\u201d<\/span> <\/span>(Psalm 118:24)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Let's\ntake a slightly different approach today to dealing with fear. I'm addressing\n-- perhaps a bit from an oblique way -- the Fear of Evil, and how it affects\nfolks in ministry.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A\nnumber of years ago, I met with a group of perhaps eight or ten pastors over\nlunch to discuss a really contentious topic: deliverance. You understand that\nthis topic is only contentious for those\nfolks who\u2019ve adopted the mindset and doctrine that Christians can\u2019t be\nafflicted with evil spirits.<\/span>\n<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The\ndoctrine really does come out of the mis<\/span>-interpretation\nof the word,  daimonizomai<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,<\/span><\/b> and its usage in the KJV as \u201cbeing\npossessed\u201d by demons. Possession conveys the wrong idea entirely. Possession\nconnotes ownership. People aren\u2019t \u201cowned\u201d by demons, any more than they are\n\u201cowned\u201d by Holy Spirit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When\nwe invite Jesus Christ into our lives, He takes up \u201chis abode\u201d with us. If we\ncontinue to yield to the leading and guidance He provides through Holy Spirit,\nwe have the opportunity and authority to become totally free in every aspect of\nour lives. Once a person has begun the process of salvation, deliverance,\nhealing, walking in health and prosperity, it is somewhat like the kid who\nthrows a big rock in a pond. You have a big splash, but then there are the\nripples that seemingly continue outward for a long time thereafter.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Deliverance\nis like that. Your initial experience of being set free from unclean spirits\nmay be dramatic, but there are the ripples \u2013 the ongoing revelations that come\nby the Holy Spirit \u2013 that continue on for months, and sometimes years.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Demons,\nunclean spirits, evil spirits \u2013 no matter how you refer to them \u2013 can only\ncreate impulses; they can lead you through the pleasures of your flesh, they can\ncreate thoughts in your mind, and they can drive you through fear -- whether\nthat fear be the Fear of Evil, the Fear of Man, or the Fear of death -- through\ndoubt or through unbelief to commit certain acts or take certain actions that\nlead you into sin, or take you away from the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Evil\nspirits operate in two ways: internally \u2013 through thoughts implanted in your\nmind, and externally \u2013 by creating a set of circumstances or \u201csupernatural\u201d\nmanifestations that generate fear, doubt\nand unbelief.<\/span>\n<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The\neight or ten pastors that met with me that day over lunch knew, and confessed\nto me, that Christians could<\/b> be afflicted and tormented by\nevil spirits. Nevertheless, they had adopted \u2013 for the sake of convenience and\npolitical expediency within their churches \u2013 the anti-deliverance doctrine.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I\ntook them to task over their arrogant expediency, and quoted to them from\nJeremiah 8:11-12,<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span>\u201cFor they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people\nslightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. Were they ashamed when\nthey had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither\ncould they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time\nof their visitation they shall be cast down, saith<\/span>\nthe LORD.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I\nrebuked these pastors for telling their folks that they were free when many of\nthem were still being tormented. They were saying to the people, \u201cIt\u2019s just\nyour flesh. You need to discipline your flesh and bring it under subjection.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

So\nwhat\u2019s wrong with an answer like that? Nothing. Except that it doesn\u2019t go far\nenough. It stops short. You cannot bring unclean spirits under subjection. You\ndon\u2019t discipline evil spirits. You kick them out!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In\nthe months that followed, three of those men fell \u201camong them that fall\u201d(see\nDaniel 11:33) \u2013 they fell into sin themselves. All three were removed from\ntheir places of ministry. One was indicted by a federal grand jury and wound up\nin prison.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Of\nthe remaining pastors, one began to suffer ill health and turned his senior\npastorate over to his son \u2013 who also happened to be among that group of\npastors. The son, when he took over the pastorate, later called me and\nacknowledged that they had been wrong. He asked me out to lunch, and made it\nclear that I would be welcome to come and share and teach in their church any\ntime.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Another\nof the pastors present that day at the luncheon began to repent of his\nanti-deliverance stance when the fall began for the three who were later\nremoved from their ministries. I was pleased to sit in his church one Sunday\nand hear him openly repent for having taught error. He began to call people to\nacknowledge their need for deliverance and respond to the authority available\nin Christ Jesus.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The\nsixth man in that group was stricken with Parkinson\u2019s Disease. Although he\nacknowledged to me privately that he knew I had spoken the truth, he refused to\nacknowledge it publicly and died two years later. It was a real loss to me\nbecause he had been a dear friend and brother in the Lord whose ministry I had\notherwise greatly appreciated.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The\nother pastors moved on, and I never heard how their ministries prospered or\nfailed. It was a graphic picture I\u2019ve never forgotten.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This\nis something that the Lord Jesus Christ takes very seriously. You cannot\npretend that folks are free, tell them they are free, and withhold the deliverance\nfrom them or the understanding that deliverance is necessary to deal with\ncertain issues in their spiritual lives because you either "fear the\npeople" or because of doctrinal compromise stemming from the Fear of Evil,\nand not suffer the consequences. The responsibilities that accompany spiritual\nleadership are great.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jesus\npaid the complete price for our freedom on the Cross. He took back the\nauthority that had been given Satan and made it available to all believers.\nEverything that Satan stole from us \u2013 everything! \u2013 was now available to those\nwho would seize it.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jesus\nput it like this:<\/span> <\/span>\u201cAnd\nfrom the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth<\/span> violence and the violent take it by force.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When\nan individual is called by the Lord, anointed for leadership, and equipped by\nHoly Spirit to teach and to lead folks into a relationship with Jesus Christ,\nand then that individual knowingly avoids teaching and sharing truths that will\nset folks free from bondage, he or she effectively leaves Jesus hanging on the\nCross instead of presenting Him as the resurrected and risen Christ who has\ntaken the final authority over death and all that Satan seeks to do to retain\nhis control of the human race.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Wheww<\/span><\/span>! That was a\nmouthful! Let me put it another way.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jesus\u2019\ndeath and resurrection proved that there is no enemy man cannot subdue when\nthat subduing takes place utilizing the power and authority He has given. To\ncheat folks out of that authority is unconscionable.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One\nof the worst fables being taught by those who seek to make Salvation a\nonce-and-for-all event, presupposing that once a person is a Christian, it is\nimpossible for Satan to afflict them, is the idea that evil or unclean spirits\ncannot remain in the presence of the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

That\nflies in the face of Job, Chapter 1, where Satan presents himself before the\nLord and God asks him if he has considered his righteous servant, Job. It\nbecomes an event in which Satan repeatedly tests Job and returns to stand\nbefore God to continue his arguments, \u201cYeah, but if you do this, Job will turn\non you<\/span>\u2026\u201d What Satan is playing on in this instance is\nthe Fear of Evil.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Consider\nfor a moment, each and every event where Jesus ministered deliverance. The\nindividuals who were under the influence and\/or being afflicted by the evil\nspirits did not flee from His presence. Not one of the evil spirits fled from\nthe individuals until they were ordered to do so by the Lord, and in a couple\nof cases we have examples of them arguing with Him over having to depart.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In\neach case Jesus held firm. The unclean spirits recognized His authority over\nthem and finally departed at His command. But they didn\u2019t leave until\nthey were commanded to<\/u>. There is not one single case of an evil spirit\nleaving as soon as Jesus was present.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It\nmakes a nice, religious doctrine for folks to believe that once they have\nChrist in their lives, no unclean spirit can remain, but there isn\u2019t one shred\nof evidence in Scripture to support such a doctrine. More often than not, that\ndoctrine is bolstered by a fear of Satan and the lying concoction that he is\nalmost as powerful as God. What hogwash!<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

What\nis truth is that individuals who allow these spirits to remain in their lives\nafter they have accepted Jesus Christ and made Him the Lord of their lives will\nsuffer raging spiritual battles in their lives. Sadly, too many Christians seem\nto be unaware of the fact that He has given them the authority to deal with the\nsituation. They do not have to remain in the midst of these struggles.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

History\nis replete with the stories of some of the most influential Christians, saints\nof God and profound leaders in the body of Christ who have lived their lives\nwith certain aspects of their character under the torment of evil spirits.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Martin\nLuther, one of the most incredible leaders of the Reformation, and a man\nresponsible for beginning the process of leading Christians out of the Dark\nAges, was tormented by a spirit of racism. It hounded him to the day of his\ndeath, and he never recognized that Christ had given him the authority to be\nfree of his hatred of the Jews.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

John\nBunyan, who wrote one of the all-time classics of Christian literature, The\nPilgrim\u2019s Progress, was tormented by a spirit that drove him to demand\neverything at half price. You may laugh at that and think it is something of\nlittle consequence, but he was never free to the day of his death. Because of\nhis continuous demands on people to sell him whatever he wanted at half-price,\nhis testimony was compromised, and people had difficulty seeing the Grace of\nthe Lord Jesus Christ in him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Was\nhe a Christian at the time of his death? Certainly.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Just\nbecause folks are tormented and do battle in certain areas of their lives with\nunclean and evil spirits does not in any way alter the fact that they have\ncommitted their lives to Christ and seek to walk with Him in a\nlove-relationship. It simply means they have not taken advantage of the\nauthority available in Christ Jesus to kick out the tormentors.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It\nwas the prophet Hosea that prophesied,<\/span> <\/span>\u201cMy people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When\nthe knowledge of how to be free has been provided and folks fail to avail\nthemselves of it, either through ignorance or willfully because of a religious\ndoctrine that teaches otherwise, they suffer unnecessarily; and there are folks\nwho go to their graves who have given their lives to the Lord that never walk\nin the liberty Jesus Christ provides \u2013 in this lifetime!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Freedom\nisn\u2019t a when-we-all-get-to-heaven goal or objective. It is a here-and-now\nreality available to everyone who seizes it and takes it by force from an enemy\nwho seeks to cheat them. It is available to the newborn Christian. It is\navailable to the seasoned Christian. It is available to the weakest Christian.\nIt is available to all who will avail themselves of the power and authority\nJesus Christ provides.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

No\ndemon or evil spirit can prevent a Christian from seizing his or her freedom\nand kicking it out when they appropriate the name, the authority, the power of\nJesus Christ. By the same token, no wicked spirit will leave of his own accord\njust because Jesus is there in a person\u2019s life. That spirit must be commanded\nto leave, and once gone, the person now freed must continue to resist Satan.\nThere is nothing automatic about it.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This\nis war, folks! Spiritual warfare! Jesus is after a people who are overcomers<\/span>. One does not get classified \u201can overcomer<\/span>\u201d if he or she does not overcome the world, the flesh\nand Satan, just as Jesus overcame. We are more than able to overcome Satan!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Wow!\nI didn\u2019t mean to get preachy today. Just got started sharing things, and the\n\u201cpreach\u201d kind of took off. It isn\u2019t my purpose to fight with folks over\ndoctrines. You can hold any doctrine you want to hold \u2013 as long as that\ndoctrine has life and reality in it. If your doctrine(s) keeps you in a place\nwhere you lack real peace in your life, I suggest you begin to take another\nlook-see at where that doctrine comes from, and what Jesus actually said and\ndid, and what He is saying to you.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Are\nyou afraid of Satan? Are you afraid that he won't leave when you command him to\ndo so? Are you afraid you will be in worse shape if you try and he doesn't\nobey? Folks, this is all part of the Fear of Evil! That fear is generated by\nSatan himself. He's the one who is afraid! He's the one who MUST bow to the\nname -- the onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> --\nof the Lord Jesus Christ IN YOU!!!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In\nthe coming weeks, I will try to share with you some of the experiences I\u2019ve had\nwith folks (and they would fill many books if I recounted them all) throughout\nthe years who have been set free.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jesus\nmade a statement that puts everything in context.<\/span> <\/span>\u201cIf the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free\nindeed.\u201d<\/span> <\/span>(John 8:36) That is free \u201cindeed!\u201d Not\nfree because you think you are free; not free because your pastor says you are\nfree; not free because I say you are free; not free because you have a doctrine\nthat says you are free; but free in reality, free experientially, free indeed!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
