ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: THE ESKDALE MIRACLE, Part 3<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/p>\n

We're going to run long today as we finish up this story. Sorry\nabout that, but when Holy Spirit goes to work, we have long since come to the\nplace of not thinking about time.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As\nI shared last week, it really didn\u2019t matter that I\u2019d never engaged in any\nministry of deliverance before this. The Lord was about to do what He does\nbest: save, heal, deliver, make whole, etc., etc., etc. I didn\u2019t know else to\ndo but to take the man\u2019s confession at face value. So I put my hand on the\nbishop\u2019s shoulder and started in, \u201cYou Spirit of Adultery, come out of him in Jesus\u2019\nname.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What\nhappened next was something none of us were prepared for. He was yanked into\nmid-air and levitated as though by a gigantic unseen hand. His body rotated in\nthe air horizontally, then slammed to the floor, and he began to writhe on the\nfloor like a snake. I\u2019d never seen the human body go through the contortions he\nwas going through. I didn't know the human body was capable of such things --\nand, honestly, it isn't! Normally, that is.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Guess\nthe Lord had taught me well. Despite the natural reaction to seeing such a\ndemonic display, there was no stopping. I was like a bulldog. Display or no\ndisplay, these things were gonna<\/span> go! I kept right on\ncommanding the evil spirits to come out. According to the confession the bishop\nhad made, I named those evil spirits by name and commanded them to leave him in\nthe name of Jesus.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Pardon\nme for a second while I share something. You understand, don't you, that using\nthe name of Jesus isn't some kind of formula? We are not rattling off the name,\nJesus, or Yeshua<\/span>, or anything like that and expecting\nthings to happen. We are actually functioning in the very onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>, the character, the essence,\nthe makeup, the personality, the very authority of Jesus and His anointing!\nThis is not a case of using some name like, Tom, Dick or George. It just\ndoesn't work that way! We are IN Christ Jesus!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

With\nmy lack of previous experience in deliverance and the Enemy thinking he could\nbluff me into yielding, it was like a spiritual tug of war. Nevertheless, they\nbegan to leave \u2013 one by one. Each time an evil spirit would leave, there was a\nvisible change. Easily twenty minutes elapsed between the departure of the\nfirst and the seventh evil spirit. It was a non-stop battle. We couldn\u2019t -- and\nwouldn't -- quit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We\nwere determined this man was going to be free, and Brother Bill and I stayed\nwith it. Finally, we watched as his body went through one last wrenching\ncontortion. What flashed through my mind as I watched it was the event recorded\nin Mark 9 and Luke 9, where the evil spirit convulsed and tore the young man.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It\nwas just like that. His body jerked, and suddenly went limp. In Mark 9:26, we\nare told that the evil spirit tore the young man\u2019s body and left him for dead,\nso much so that folks standing around said, \u201cHe\u2019s dead.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The\nbishop\u2019s eyes rolled back in his head, the color disappeared from his face, the\ndeath rattle came from his throat, he ceased to breathe, and to all the world\nhe looked dead. As far as I was concerned, he probably was, but at that moment\nI didn't care.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As\nnoted in last week's portion of this story, no one had left the place. The\nauditorium was still packed. A mother and her young -- perhaps nine-year-old --\ndaughter were sitting on the front seat. I heard the little girl lean over to\nher mother and whisper, \u201cMommy, he looks dead!\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In\nthat instant, what flashed through my head was Jesus with Jairus<\/span>\u2019\ndaughter. Everyone had said, \u201cDon\u2019t trouble the Master. She\u2019s dead.\u201d Jesus had\nresponded, \u201cShe\u2019s not dead, she\u2019s just sleeping.\u201d It was Jesus\u2019 way of making\nthem understand that death, to Him, is no more consequential than sleep. He\ncould wake a person from the dead as easily as He could awaken someone who was\nasleep. I remembered that Jesus had stretched out His hand, taken the dead girl\nby the hand, and said, \u201cLittle maid, I say unto you, Arise!\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So\nI reached down, took the limp arm of the bishop, and said to him, \u201cSir, in the\nname of Jesus Christ, arise and be made whole!\u201d His eyes snapped back into\nplace. There was a sudden inrush of air filling his lungs, and he began to\nbreathe. Color flooded his face, and he leaped to his feet. He began to dance\nacross that platform, shouting at the top of his voice, \u201cI\u2019m free! I\u2019m free!\nPraise God, I\u2019m free!\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I\nbroke. The emotion of the moment overtook me as I began to weep. Seeing the\n\u201csigns following\u201d that night in one continuous display after another, hour\nafter hour for more than five hours just caught up with me.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Never\nin my life could I have imagined what the Lord was going to do in Eskdale<\/span>, Utah. What Holy Spirit began that weekend was a\nlong way from finished.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In\nfact, I can't say that I had really connected the fast to the events that\nfollowed. It actually was several years later \u2013 eight or nine years later \u2013\nthat the significance of the fast, and the fact that the Lord had waited until\nthe eighth day to show me that I could continue the fast with water, actually\nregistered.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I\nshould point out that all of the events I\u2019ve related thus far took place on our\nfirst night in Eskdale<\/span>, a Friday night, and the end\nof the 21st<\/sup> day of my 21-day fast.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Saturday\nmorning was like being amongst a bunch of kids who had been given new toys. The\nexcitement and joy over all the miracles of the night before animated those\nfolks in a way they had never known. There were few prayers that day for\nmiracles -- at least in the way that folks had seen the night before. The\nbishop was anxious to talk. He was anxious to know Jesus Christ in the way he\nhad seen demonstrated the night before. We wound up sharing the principles of\nsalvation with him, and with the majority of the townspeople. One after\nanother, and sometimes in groups of several at a time, we spent the entire day\nand early evening on Saturday leading people in prayers of salvation and commitment\nto the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You\nhave to understand that these folks were Mormon \u2013 every last one of them. They\nhad grown up in Mormonism and in making a regular profession of faith in Jesus\nChrist and their founder, Joseph Smith. The problem was, their profession of\nfaith was a ritual. It was predicated on a formula. It was based on the\ndoctrines they had learned and grown up with \u2013 not on having a real\nrelationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

They\nhad grown up in a religious atmosphere \u2013 one that\u2019s not any different from\nthose who grow up in the Catholic church, the Methodist church, the Episcopal\nchurch, the Presbyterian church, or any other church regardless of whether it\nis evangelical, hierarchical, or Pentecostal. One doesn\u2019t have to be Mormon to\nbe religious.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What\nI was seeing happen throughout our weekend in Eskdale<\/span>\nforever altered my perspective of religious names, denominations, titles, and\nall that. I didn\u2019t see these folks as \u201cMormons,\u201d just like I don\u2019t see other\nfolks as \u201cPresbyterian\u201d or \u201cBaptist\u201d or any other denominational label. They\nare \u201cpeople,\u201d PERIOD!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

They\nneed Jesus Christ, just like we all need Jesus Christ. The labels are\nmeaningless to the Lord. He\u2019s not looking for Catholics, Episcopalians,\nPresbyterians, Methodists, Baptists, Church of God, Foursquare, Assemblies of\nGod, or any one of a bazillion names folks have over the door of their\nchurches. He\u2019s looking for people who\u2019ve committed their lives to Him, made Him\nthe Lord of their lives, and walk with Him in a personal, intimate relationship\non a daily basis. Period! End of argument.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

These\nfolks in Eskdale<\/span> weren\u2019t any different. They grew up\nthinking just being \u201cMormon\u201d would do it. Problem was, there were no \u201csigns\nfollowing.\u201d Once they saw the \u201csigns following,\u201d heard the truth, and\ndetermined to make Jesus Christ the Lord of their lives, everything was simple.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There's\na principle here many believers have lost sight of. Paul speaks of it in his\nsharing with the Corinthian Ekklesia<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span>"But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve\nthrough his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity\nthat is in Christ." <\/span>(II\nCorinthians 11:3) That's it! The Gospel of the Kingdom IS simple!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

By\nthe end of the day on Saturday, we had prayed with the overwhelming majority of\nthe people in Eskdale<\/span>, and when we left Sunday\nmorning to head back to Salt Lake City, we estimated that some 75% of the\npeople in that community had personally accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and\nSavior. Of that group more than half had been baptized in the Holy Spirit with\nthe clear evidence of speaking in tongues.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I\nstill hadn\u2019t put two and two together concerning the 21-day fast, but the\nevents of those three days stirred something in me that has never quit from\nthat day to this. My head was swimming in the events.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One\nthing I lacked was teaching concerning the ministry of deliverance. Until Eskdale<\/span>, it had never been a part of my life, my\nunderstanding, or my teaching and preaching. Oh, sure. I knew it was a major\npart of Jesus\u2019 ministry, but applying it in a modern sense was missing.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It\nwas shortly thereafter that I met Derek Prince for the first time and began to\nbe exposed to some really in-depth teaching. Derek was a former WWII British\nsoldier whom the Lord had given some of the same extraordinary experiences I\u2019d\njust had in Eskdale<\/span>. His experiences began during the\nWar, but they continued \u2013 virtually nonstop \u2013 for many years.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

He\nmoved to the U.S. and became an American citizen, and ultimately began pastoring<\/span> a church in Chicago before being dis<\/span>-fellowshipped by the denomination the church belonged\nto. Like so many structured, denominational churches, they had a doctrine that\nwas in opposition to this ministry of deliverance. Derek ultimately became a\nmajor voice, a teacher and evangelist in the rapidly-growing Charismatic\nRenewal movement that swept the nation in the 1960\u2019s and 1970\u2019s.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

His\nsharing and teaching from Scripture, as well as his personal experiences in\ndealing with evil spirits, opened up my understanding and began to fill the\nhuge void for me in this dimension of Jesus\u2019 ministry. This, however, is not\nthe place nor the time for me to share the experiences I began to have in the\nyears that followed ministering deliverance to people from demonic influence\nand control. That will wait for another time.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Nevertheless,\nEskdale<\/span> became a watershed in my personal growth and\nunderstanding. If I had griped to the Lord prior to that time concerning the\nlack of any significant \u201csigns following\u201d the teaching, preaching, and pastoral\nministry, my gripes were no more. From that time forward, they followed \u2013\nvirtually nonstop.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There\nwas something else that followed: fasting. I began to realize that the 21-day\nfast in obedience to the command of the Lord was directly responsible for the\nincredible events that unfolded. A determination engraved itself in my being. I\nresolved that my life would be given and available to the Lord for whatever\nrealm of ministry He chose to steer me to \u2013 that I would never again resist any\nkind of ministry He called me to perform, regardless of how controversial or\nchallenging it might appear.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Beginning\nin 1973, and for ten consecutive years, I went on at least one 40-day fast each\nyear. During most of the 1990's Della and I frequently were on two 40-day fasts\nin any calendar year. There were many years in which there were multiple fasts\nof varying lengths. The overwhelming majority of these fasts were water only.\nThe fasts have continued throughout my life but they have changed in scope and\nnature. So has the dimension of ministry, and the incredible experiences that\nhave accompanied our walk with the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It\nwas either late in 1979 or sometime in the early part of 1980 after moving back\nto Barrow, Alaska that I was thinking about Bill Christopulos<\/span>\nand our experiences together in Eskdale<\/span>. I decided to\ngive him a call and check up on him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Very\nnearly the first thing out of his mouth when he heard my voice on the telephone\nwas, \u201cBrother, do you remember Eskdale<\/span>?\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

My\nimmediate response was, \u201cBrother Bill, how could I EVER forget Eskdale<\/span>? Witnessing the miracles that took place there\nchanged my life! That was a watershed event for me spiritually.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He\ncontinued. \u201cYou need to hear the end of the story, Reg. The miracles didn\u2019t\nstop after we left. The change to that community was continuous.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cIn\nthe two years after we were in Eskdale<\/span>, people\ncontinued to make commitments to Jesus Christ until the entire community turned\nto Jesus Christ. I think there were two or three folks that were afraid to\ncommit their lives for whatever reason and chose to move away from the town,\nbut literally everyone else accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The\nlast I heard, more than three-quarters of those folks had been baptized in the\nHoly Spirit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\nwas in 1973 \u2013 two years after we had been there -- that the bishop called the\ncommunity together and they agreed to have a public ceremony similar to the one\nrecorded in the 19th<\/sup> chapter of Acts. They gathered together all of\ntheir copies of the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great\nPrice, the Book of Abraham, and books on Mormon doctrine, piled them together\nin the middle of the town and had a great bonfire. The entire community\nrenounced its ties to Mormonism. They concluded that they needed no \u201cextra\u201d\ndoctrine or teaching other than the Bible as the Word of God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cBrother,\ndo you realize what happened? You remember the first seven, almost eight, days\nof your fast without food or water? Remember how Esther\u2019s three-day fast\naltered the course of history for Israel? Your days without food and water\nplayed a role in altering the course of history for that community. That entire\ncommunity came to accept and know Jesus Christ! It\u2019s incredible, Brother! I\ndon\u2019t know of any recent parallel in modern times where an entire community turned\nto the Lord. We were part of something absolutely miraculous! What God did\namong those people was stupendous!\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Finally!\nTwo and two made four. For whatever reason, I hadn\u2019t seen the connection\nbefore. To hear that the entire community turned to the Lord almost left me\nspeechless. Now, maybe you understand why the word \u201cimpossible\u201d is gone from my\ndictionary. There is no such thing in God. There is no such thing for those\nthat walk with Him in intimate love, whose lives are totally committed.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There\nis a dimension of life, of authority and power available to the believer in\nChrist Jesus that knows no bounds. The reason why we have nutty doctrines that\nabound in churches today that limit the believer is because those who teach\nsuch doctrines have never really launched out and stepped past the boundaries\nand boxes of their religious understanding. Relying on human understanding so\nplaces limits on our relationship with the Lord that folks get shortchanged in\ntheir walk with God. Jesus made some incredible promises that all Christians\nhave access to, but rarely avail themselves.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In\nJohn 14:12, Jesus makes the statement,<\/span>\n<\/span>\u201cVerily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the\nworks that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do\nbecause I go unto my Father.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Isaiah\nprophesied it, and Paul repeated it in I Corinthians 2:9:<\/span> <\/span>\u201cBut as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither\nhave entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them\nthat love Him.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Want\nthe adventure of a lifetime? Want to see some of what God has prepared for them\nthat love Him? God HAS revealed it to us by His Spirit! It\u2019s available to those\nwhose pursuit after God\u2019s best knows no holding back, no restraints of any\nkind.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cThese signs shall follow them that believe; in My Name shall\nthey cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up\nserpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they\nshall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And\nthat\u2019s only the works that Jesus did \u2013 never mind the promised \u201cGreater Works\u201d!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
