ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: UNDERSTANDING PROPHECY V<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

OK, so I didn\u2019t quite finish up on this topic like I\nexpected to last week.\u00a0 <\/span>Thought I was\ngoing to move on back into the Psalm 23 Adventure today, but woke up a couple\nof nights ago realizing that there was just a bit more to share on this, so \u2026\nfor those of you looking forward to getting back into Psalm 23 today, bear with\nme. \u00a0<\/span>We\u2019ll get there next week.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s talk today about the directive nature of prophecy.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A few\nyears ago, Della and I heard the Lord speak very directly to us a series of\nsimple commands over a period of several days.\u00a0\n<\/span>I\u2019ve shared this before \u2013 or part of it, anyway \u2013 but He said to us,\n\u201cSimplify.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Then it was,\n\u201cConsolidate.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Next came, \u201cGet out of\ndebt.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Then He said, \u201cBecome mobile.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Lastly, the word was, \u201cBe ready to go\nwherever I send you at a moment\u2019s notice.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Got\nthe picture?\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve shared this before in\nthis series, but we can sum up these commands in the word He gave to the rich\nyoung ruler<\/span>, \u201cSell all thou hast, and come and follow me.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

God\u2019s word IS<\/b>\ndirective!\u00a0 <\/span>It requires action on our\npart.\u00a0 <\/span>To ignore it is to suffer the\nconsequences.\u00a0 <\/span>The point is that the\ndirectives are given in love.\u00a0 <\/span>These\ndirectives are a form of prophecy.\u00a0 <\/span>They\ncome as a direct word from the Lord with instructions He expects us to follow.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As I have noted previously in these pieces on\nprophecy, all true prophecy comes from the heart of the Lord for our growth and\ndevelopment in our relationship with Him.\u00a0\n<\/span>All prophecy is directive in one way or another, but some prophecy comes\nwith very specific commands such as those I\u2019ve just mentioned.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When Della and I received those instructions from\nthe Lord \u2013 and we both received the identical commands, called each other on\nthe phone from our respective offices and shared them \u2013 we began to immediately\ntake the necessary steps to do exactly what the Lord was instructing.\u00a0 <\/span>Of course, we did what lots of folks do in\nignorance when they first receive commands like this from the Lord.\u00a0 <\/span>We ran those instructions through our\npersonal computers \u2013 you know: our brains, our own thought and reasoning\nprocesses.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Our computers spit out an interpretation for us\nthat sounded rational.\u00a0 <\/span>Want to hear what\nit was?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You see, what also entered into the equation was\nthe fact that we had been feeling the need to do some travel and ministry\nthroughout the northwest.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019d had some\ninvitations to come and share in the Spokane, Washington area, as well as in\nAlberta and British Columbia in Canada.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So we added that to the mental computer\nprogram.\u00a0 <\/span>Of course, as soon as you add\nsomething to the picture that the Lord has not personally said to you to that\nwhich He has<\/b> said, you really screw\nthings up.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Our mental reasoning and mental computer spit out\nthe following: (1) get rid of the six-bedroom home in Anchorage and move into\nsomething smaller (all but two of our kids were grown and gone from home, so\nthis made sense!); (2) get rid of all the extra \u201cstuff\u201d and pare things down to\na simpler lifestyle (i.e., clean out the garage, have a garage sale, sell off\nthe extra four bedrooms worth of furniture, along with the second living room\u2019s\nfurniture and accessories); (3) put whatever we weren\u2019t going to use for the\nnext six months in storage; (4) use the sale of all those \u201cextras,\u201d along with\nsome commercial video equipment I had to pay our bills down; and (5) get ready\nto head down the highway for six months\u2019 worth of travel.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That wasn\u2019t<\/i><\/b> <\/i>what the Lord said to us, was<\/i><\/b> it?\u00a0 <\/span>What did<\/b><\/i> He say?\u00a0 <\/span>Hmmmmmm.\u2026..\u00a0\n<\/span>Let\u2019s run through this again.\u00a0 <\/span>(1)\nSimplify.\u00a0 <\/span>(2) Consolidate.\u00a0 <\/span>(3) Get out of debt.\u00a0 <\/span>(4) Become mobile.\u00a0 <\/span>(5) Be ready to go wherever I send you at a\nmoment\u2019s notice.\u00a0 <\/span>Pretty clear, isn\u2019t it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Simplify.\u00a0\n<\/span>Brother, there was a mouthful.\u00a0\n<\/span>Our lives were so involved and complicated it was ridiculous.\u00a0 <\/span>I was Chief Engineer for the local FOX\ntelevision station.\u00a0 <\/span>I owned and operated\na newspaper distribution business serving the southwest corner of the city of\nAnchorage for the Anchorage Daily News.\u00a0\n<\/span>Della was both manager of the largest Zale jewelry store in the city and\nin the state, as well as serving as the unofficial assistant regional manager.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Besides all of that, we were trying to homeschool\ntwo of our kids; we had a live-in school teacher in our home who had taken a\nbeating from some teens in the high school in Barrow and was recuperating from\nher injuries. Add to that our involvement in the newly burgeoning spontaneous\nworship gatherings, and you begin to get the picture.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consolidate.\u00a0\n<\/span>Hmmmmmm\u2026\u2026..\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>We were pretty\nspread out with our involvements so that shouldn\u2019t be too hard to figure out.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Get out of debt.\u00a0\n<\/span>Easy!\u00a0 <\/span>When you\u2019re both making\ngood salaries, and you have the income from a profitable newspaper business on\nthe side, and you are netting over a hundred grand a year\u2026\u2026.let\u2019s see\u2026.car\npayments on two cars, insurance, house payment, utilities\u2026throw in a generous\nfood allowance per month, and you\u2019re still left with an easy 50 - 60 grand to\nplay with.\u00a0 <\/span>If that\u2019s so, how come we\nwere almost $20,000 in debt, and couldn\u2019t figure out how to make our money\nstretch?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Things just weren\u2019t adding up.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Become mobile?\u00a0\n<\/span>The only way you do that is to pare things down so far that you have no\nhome to worry about, no payments to make, and very little in the way of\npersonal effects you have to haul around.\u00a0\n<\/span>Ouch!\u00a0 <\/span>This was going to hurt!\u00a0 <\/span>Unless you could take care of the first four\ndirectives, number five was never going to be possible: \u201cBe ready to go where I\nsend you at a moment\u2019s notice.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

See what happens to folks when they get their\npriorities in life all askew?\u00a0 <\/span>You become\nso involved and so entangled, you take the Mark of the Beast.\u00a0 <\/span>That really is what the Mark of the Beast is\nall about.\u00a0 <\/span>Remember how John described\nit?\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>\u201c<\/span>And\nhe causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive\na mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads, And that no man might buy or\nsell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his\nname.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\u2019s a mindset.\u00a0\n<\/span>It\u2019s a way of thinking.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s a\nway of doing business.\u00a0 <\/span>People become\nensnared by the Beast \u2013 the world system \u2013 and its way of doing things.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The phrase, <\/span>\u201cto\nreceive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads,\u201d <\/span>represents<\/a> two very clear Hebrew metaphors that\nrecur throughout both the Old and New Testaments.\u00a0 <\/span>The \u201cmark in their right hand,\u201d signifies the\nway you conduct business<\/u>.\u00a0 <\/span>The mark\n\u201cin their foreheads\u201d signifies the way a person thinks<\/u>.\u00a0 <\/span>These marks have nothing whatever to do with\ngetting some kind of ID chip implanted beneath the skin so you can be tracked,\nnor do they have anything to do with putting some kind of invisible mark on\none\u2019s skin that can be scanned with an ultraviolet or infrared scanner.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

People who focus their attention on ID chips,\nscanners, and GPS tracking as the methodologies of \u201cthe Beast\u201d are literally\nbeing sidetracked by the enemy and deceived into thinking they are avoiding\ntaking \u201cthe Mark,\u201d while all the time they continue to live, do business, and\nthink like the world system \u2013 Mammon \u2013 wants them to think.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If you believe that you must do things the way the\nworld system operates, you really have<\/i><\/b> taken the Mark of the\nBeast.\u00a0 <\/span>If you conduct your own personal\nbusiness, excusing some of your business practices on the basis that \u201cthis is\nthe way it is done,\u201d when in your heart of hearts you know it isn\u2019t really\npleasing to the Lord, you\u2019ve taken the Mark of the Beast.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Getting rid of that mark takes some major effort,\nsome discipline, and the help of the Holy Spirit in directing you.\u00a0 <\/span>It can<\/b><\/i> <\/b>be done, and you won\u2019t do it overnight unless you are ready for a\nmajor disruption of your lifestyle.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Today\u2019s piece isn\u2019t really about dealing with the\nMark of the Beast, and we\u2019ve already covered that in this series, but suffice\nit to say that the Lord has been gracious to us in getting us out from doing\nthings the way we used to.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Della and I started off doing what we thought<\/i><\/b>\nwas the way to respond to those directives from the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 <\/span>We found a house about 50 miles north of\nAnchorage out in the country we figured we would purchase.\u00a0 <\/span>We started the preparation for buying the\nplace and embarked on a course of action that would have still kept us\ncomfortably ensconced in Alaska, near our kids, but with a simpler lifestyle.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Fortunately, we had said, \u201cYes,\u201d to the Lord and\ngiven Him permission to do whatever it took to accomplish His heart\u2019s desire in\nour lives.\u00a0 <\/span>Folks, look out when you pray\nthat way!\u00a0 <\/span>Make sure you mean what you\nsay to the Lord, and be prepared for the unexpected.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I rented a storage locker and began moving things\ninto storage that we didn\u2019t want to move out to the new house we were going to\nget.\u00a0 <\/span>One evening, driving along the Old\nSeward Highway and headed back towards our house with Della and our youngest\nson, Joshua, a drunk pulled directly in front of us from oncoming traffic.\u00a0 <\/span>He was less than two car lengths away when he\nmade the move and avoiding him was impossible.\u00a0\n<\/span>We hit him at 50 MPH with our almost new Lumina van.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He was driving a dilapidated Nissan pickup.\u00a0 <\/span>The impact of the collision picked that\nlittle truck up in mid-air and hurled it into a telephone pole.\u00a0 <\/span>The entire front end of our mini-van\ncollapsed around us.\u00a0 <\/span>The drunk managed\nto extricate himself out of the wreckage of the pickup and ran from the scene\nbefore we could really get proper identification.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We were completely protected in the accident, and\nother than the momentary shock of the event suffered no injury whatever.\u00a0 <\/span>The mini-van was totaled.\u00a0 <\/span>The owner of the pickup \u2013 whom we believed to\nbe the driver and identified him from photographs \u2013 reported the pickup as\nstolen two hours after the accident.\u00a0 <\/span>His\ninsurance company refused to pay for the accident because we had not gotten his\nID at the scene, and our insurance only paid the vehicle off.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Presto!\u00a0 <\/span>We\nwere without a vehicle to make any kind of move to another house, and\nattempting to resettle 50 miles out of Anchorage suddenly became an exercise in\nfutility.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Suddenly, our priorities were reordered.\u00a0 <\/span>Earle and Marcia Treend, friends of whom I\nhave spoken previously who were involved in our daily spontaneous worship,\noffered us their ranch in Idaho as a place to resettle in exchange for taking\ncare of the place.\u00a0 <\/span>We eventually sold or\ngave away most of our household possessions to our older children and other\nfolks we knew, put in storage what I thought was \u201creally valuable and we needed\nto hang onto for the day when we came back to Anchorage.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Hahahahahaha\u2026\u2026.hohohohohohoho\u2026\u2026. Ohhhhh,\nBrotherrrr!\u00a0 <\/span>Nevertheless, we were\nsimplified, consolidated, and a little further out of debt.\u00a0 <\/span>Not very mobile, yet, but at least sort of\nready to go wherever the Lord wanted us to go.\u00a0\n<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Back at the ranch in Idaho was an old classic car\nbelonging to some other friends in British Columbia, Kitty and Rene Loyd.\u00a0 <\/span>It had been in storage there for years.\u00a0 <\/span>We agreed to buy it from them, and I spent\nseveral months restoring it \u2013 a limited edition 1963 Mercury Comet Caliente\nhardtop.\u00a0 <\/span>It was hardly designed for the\nkind of trips we needed to take, but in the months that followed, whenever we\nneeded to travel into Canada, other friends came and picked us up and transported\nus.\u00a0 <\/span>See.\u00a0\n<\/span>We were mobile!\u00a0 <\/span>Just not the kind\nof mobility we envisioned.\u00a0 <\/span>We were free\nto go wherever the Lord wanted us to go whenever He so ordered.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I contracted my services with the FOX station where\nI had resigned as Chief Engineer.\u00a0 <\/span>They\nretained my services for another year as a contract Chief Engineer, paying me\nmore money each month than I had earned on my salary, for the equivalent of a\nweek-to-ten days\u2019 services; and in less than a year, we were out of debt.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We didn\u2019t have the high cost of maintaining a\nsix-bedroom home, house payments, car payments and relatively high cost of\nliving, and with that income we very quickly made progress in erasing our\ndebts.\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s only part of the story,\nhowever, but we\u2019ll cover that in some other Coffee Break.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

See how the Lord does things when you don\u2019t program\nwhat He says to you, or try to make it fit within your mental framework?\u00a0 <\/span>It took almost a year to accomplish, and\nexcept for my stupidity in hanging onto things in storage in Anchorage that\neventually rusted, molded, mildewed and had to be thrown away four years later\nafter shelling out some 5 grand in storage fees, we were greatly simplified in\nour lifestyle, consolidated like we couldn\u2019t believe, out of debt, mobile and\nfree to respond to whatever the Lord asked.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Despite our ignorance and attempts to fit and\nfigure out the prophetic word the Lord had delivered to us within our own\nunderstanding, we still purposed to obey that word \u2013 wholeheartedly.\u00a0 <\/span>The Lord was gracious and merciful.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Every so often, I can hear Him chuckle when I\nattempt to \u201ctranslate\u201d what He says into the framework of my understanding, and\nI know that it\u2019s time to stop.\u00a0 <\/span>His\ndirect Word to us needs no \u201ctranslating\u201d or figuring out, or trying to fit it\ninto what we would like to do.\u00a0 <\/span>All He\nasks us for is direct obedience.\u00a0 <\/span>Simple\nobedience.\u00a0 <\/span>It isn\u2019t complicated at all.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We complicate things.\u00a0 <\/span>We make simple prophecy \u2013 direct word from\nthe Lord to us \u2013 into some grandiose scheme and get ourselves into messes He\nhas to extricate us from.\u00a0 <\/span>We drag things\nout unnecessarily with our plans, our hopes and our dreams because we want the\nLord to fulfill those things according to our ideas instead of simply obeying\nHim and letting the chips fall where they may.\u00a0\n<\/span>We plan for contingencies.\u00a0 <\/span>What\nhappens if things don\u2019t work out the way we think they ought to when we respond\nto the direction of the Lord?\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s all\nfear, folks!\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s a bunch of baloney.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If we can just come to the place where we shut up,\nstop running God\u2019s Word to us through our own personal filtering system with\nits ideas, plans, doctrines, or whatever, and just obey \u2013 simply obey \u2013 the\nLord has a marvelous way of fulfilling our wildest dreams and in the process,\nbringing us into a far more intimate relationship with Him.\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s what happened to Della and me.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s what happened to all those folks who\nbegan to get involved with us at the ranch in Idaho as we gathered together for\nspontaneous worship gatherings.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Prophecy isn\u2019t general; it is specific!\u00a0 <\/span>Prophecy isn\u2019t vague; it carries personal\ndirection to each of us.\u00a0 <\/span>We just need to\nshut up, turn off our thought processes and reasoning, and listen to what the\nLord is really saying to us \u2013 personally!\u00a0\n<\/span>And then, respond without compromising.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It will change your life forever!\u00a0 <\/span>You\u2019ll never be the same.\u00a0 <\/span>Della and I sure aren\u2019t.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
