ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: APHIEMI HEALING, Part 24<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

April 4, 2014<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

This\nmorning brought us an interesting phone call with a brother who has been\nstruggling with depression, anxiety, and physical pain in his back and legs\npartly as a result of the stresses he's been under with his job. For the sake\nof discussion, let me refer to him as "Ray." As Della and I shared\nwith him it became clear that although he has been saved for many years and\nbaptized in the Holy Spirit, when it comes to health issues, his reference is\nprimarily oriented in the culture of our medical society with its medications,\npills, and various and sundry treatments.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Della\nand I both saw something at the same time (and admittedly, we've been caught in\nthe same trap). When a person today gets a headache that lasts for any length\nof time, the first thing he or she thinks of is the aspirin bottle. When we get\nhurt or injured in some way, the first thing we think of is the doctor or the\nhospital. If we get a cold or flu, we look for the Nyquil or some other kind of\nmedicine to take the headache, deal with the runny nose and\/or something to\ndeal with the upset stomach.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

You\nsee where I'm going with this don't you?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

We\ndon't think health and healing! Despite the repeated commands in the Word to\nrenew our minds and our thought processes, we hang onto the thought processes\nwe've grown up with in our modern society. We think "progressive"\nhealing. If we are injured in some way, we just "know" that a doctor\nvisit will result in some kind of surgery, a hospital stay of varying lengths,\nand a period of time for us to "get better." That's how our society\nthinks!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

It\nmatters not that Jesus endured the most unimaginable suffering and beatings,\ntorture of unspeakable intensity such that his body became almost\nunrecognizable as that of a human being, and then wound up being nailed to a\ncross with spikes driven through his hands and his feet and a circlet or crown\nmade out of thorns more than two inches in length shoved into his scalp and\nskull -- ALL OF IT so that we would have access to instant healing, instant\ndeliverance and complete restoration for our physical bodies, our minds and our\nthinking, AND our emotions. The fact that Jesus paid this kind of price so that\nwe who accept Him as Lord and Savior, Healer and Deliverer would never have to\nput up with the afflictions this world considers just a normal part of our earthly\nexistence!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

We\njust don't think that way! And why not? Why do Christians today somehow arrive\nat the insane conclusion that God brings sickness or disease or ill health or\naccidents resulting in physical injury to teach us some spiritual truth? Is God\na masochist? Did Jesus go through all that he suffered for nothing? Do we have\nto endure sickness or disease for the Lord to teach us something? That's about\nas stupid as anything you can imagine!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

We\nneed a revolution in the way we think! Consider what Paul wrote to the Romans.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Romans\n12:2 (with my amplification):<\/span><\/u><\/b> <\/span>And be not conformed to [shaped by and to the thinking of] this\nworld: but be ye transformed [changed through the metamorphosis] by the\nrenewing [the restoration to God's original plan and design] of your mind, that\nye may [test and] prove what is<\/i> that good (beneficial), and\nacceptable (well-pleasing), and perfect (complete), will (heart's desire) of\nGod.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Can\nit be any clearer than that? Try a couple other scriptures on for size.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

II\nCorinthians 5:17:<\/span><\/u><\/b> <\/span>Therefore\nif any man be<\/i> in Christ, he is<\/i> a new\ncreature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Let's\ntry that again from the Greek text (RAC Translation): <\/span>That being the case, if anyone is immersed into the Anointed One\nand His anointing, he has been re-formed as a new being [with new DNA]; the old\nperson (he used to be) has perished and gone; pay attention to the fact, and\nsee for yourself that he has been created afresh and anew.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Titus\n3:5-7 (with my amplification):<\/span><\/u><\/b> <\/span>Not by works (sweat and toil) of righteousness (justifying\nourselves) which we have done, but according to his (compassionate) mercy he\nsaved us, by the washing  (baptism) of regeneration (rebirth and\nrestoration), and renewing (re-creating anew) of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed\non us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour<\/span>;\nThat being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the\nhope of eternal life.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

OK.\nOne more and we'll come back to the significance of these verses!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Philippians\n2:5-6 (with my amplification):<\/span><\/u><\/b> <\/span>Let this mind [or manner of thinking] be in you, which was also\nin Christ Jesus [the way He saw things and thought]: Who, being in the form of\nGod, thought it not robbery to be equal [like and similar in construct,\ncharacter and makeup] with God:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Has\nit become clear for you, yet? Everything -- and I do mean EVERYTHING -- about\nour relationship with Jesus Christ means a return to our original creation in\nthe likeness and image of God where there is no sickness, no disease, no\ninfirmity, and nothing that can befall you that you cannot deal with from a\nplace of God's authority and power.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Where,\nin any of these scriptures, do folks get the idea -- no, wait! where any of US\n-- that we have to put up with even the slightest affliction or attack on our\nbodies. Why do I tolerate a stuffy nose or a sinus drip as though this is just\na part of living in a polluted valley with its agricultural sprays, blooms and\nthe toxic emissions from hops? You see it don't you? Just because I may live at\nthe moment in an area where the air around me may be full of pollen and the\nresidue of the sprays that farmers use, why should I automatically accept the\nfact that I have to be susceptible to this pollution?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Whatever\nhappened to the prayer and admonition of, <\/span>"Beloved,\nI wish above all things that thou mayest<\/span>\nprosper and be in health<\/u>, even as thy soul prospereth<\/span>." <\/span>(II John 2) Folks, if\nmy soul is prospering, that means it is in agreement with what the Word says\nabout my thought life, the way I live and where I live ("in Christ")!\nIf I am "in Christ," the environment around me has no power over me,\nno power over my mind and thoughts, and no power over my physical body. In\nfact, if I am restored (or in the process of being restored) to the status of\nour original creation, the Word says that the environment is subject to me --\nNOT the other way around!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Let's\ntake this discussion another step.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Suppose\nI have some kind of accident and injure myself, whether it be through\ncarelessness or through no fault of my own? Should I run to the medicine\ncabinet, the doctor or nurse, or to the hospital -- and here's the kicker\n-- first<\/i><\/b>? Or, should I take hold of the Word of the Lord\nfirst, speak the Word (which had better be in me if I'm in Christ) and then<\/i><\/b>,\nif Holy Spirit directs otherwise, see a doctor?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Let\nme share a personal example of something that happened to me a few years ago\nwhen Della and I were still in Anchorage. Besides my regular, somewhat\nsedentary, job as Chief Engineer for the local FOX station, I ran not less than\nfour (and sometimes five) newspaper routes every morning, seven days a week.\nIronically, I made more money with my newspaper business than I did as an\nengineer, but that was less the reason than the physical exercise I gained from\nit each morning. I was in prime physical condition from running 4 1\/2 miles\nevery morning with up to as much as 150 pounds of newspapers on my back.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

One\nspring morning when there had been a warm spell that had melted the snow on the\nstreets and then frozen over during the night leaving glazed ice in places, I\nwas running with my usual load of papers when I slipped on the ice, fell and\ntore a ligament in my left ankle. The pain was excruciating, to say the least!\nI dragged myself (couldn't walk) over to my van where the supply of newspapers\nwas, pulled myself up into the van, drove home and called the district manager\nfor the Anchorage Daily News to let him know what had happened so someone could\ncover the rest of my routes. This would have been around 5:00 or 5:30 in the\nmorning.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Around\n8:00 or thereabouts, Della drove me to the doctor's office where X-rays showed\nthe damage. The doctor put me in an air cast and told me to stay off that leg\nfor six weeks, indicating that it could take as much as six months for the torn\nligament to heal. The following Sunday, Della and I were visiting a local Foursquare\nchurch fellowship (I had been ministering to the pastor of that church). There\nwas a break in the morning service for folks to pray for one another. I turned\nto the people standing behind me (whom I did not know at all) and said,\n"the pain in my leg is almost more than I can tolerate, and I'm not going\nto put up with this any longer. Will you lay hands on me and pray?"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

They\ndid so quickly and prayed the prayer of faith. In that instant, I knew that my\nleg was healed and that the torn ligament had been made whole. When we got home\na little later, I took off the air cast and tested the leg. I called the\ndistrict manager for the newspaper and told him I was ready to resume my\nregular routes the next morning. Sure enough, I ran the 4 1\/2 miles with the newspapers\nthe following morning. There was no pain, no discomfort of any kind. All of my\nstrength was back, and there wasn't so much as a single twinge of any kind!\nWhen I acted on the truth of the Word, the Lord did exactly what He says He\nwill do.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

You\nsee, my healing was paid for nearly 2,000 years ago! Why am I going to keep\npaying for something Jesus already paid for? Should I NOT believe that I'm\nalready healed? Why do I want to suffer discomfort? Why do I want to endure\npain and agony on top of what Jesus already endured? Was His suffering not\nenough for me? Should I somehow think that my suffering will compensate for my\nown failures? Was Jesus' death and resurrection not sufficient? Shall I put Him\nback on the Cross while I suffer instead?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

It\nsounds ludicrous, doesn't it? Is my pain or suffering somehow going to make up\nfor some insufficiency in Jesus' suffering, death and resurrection on my\nbehalf?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Folks,\nI've gotta<\/span> tell you, THAT is pure heresy! How stupid\ncan we get? How irrational is it for us to somehow think that we have to\n"suffer with Jesus"? One of the dumbest things I've ever heard is the\nsupposed justification for our suffering with some disease, some ailment or\nsome deformity because "Paul had to endure his thorn in the flesh."\nWhat makes that argument so silly is that anyone who stops with that never\nbothers to realize that the "thorn" was nothing more and nothing less\nthan "a messenger of Satan" (a demon) who was sent (by the Enemy) to\ntorment him, to buffet him and to sidetrack him from his apostolic mission. God\ndidn't send that demon to torment Paul!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

When\nPaul cried out to the Lord in his frustration, God's answer to him was simple\nand to the point: "My grace is sufficient for you." Don't you get it?\nThe Lord wasn't telling Paul to put up with it, He was saying to Paul,\n"Stand up! Acquit yourself like a son of God and joint-heir with Jesus\nChrist! My grace for you has supplied everything you need to exercise the\nneeded authority to get rid of the demonic harassment!"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

I\nwant to talk more about this aspect of things, and perhaps I'll pick it up more\nnext week, but let me wrap up this part of our discussion today by saying that\nthe picture of our new creation -- our re-creation in Jesus Christ -- is again\nthe demonstration of what this series of Coffee Break discussions is all about:\naphiemi<\/span>: not just forgiveness, not just remission of\nsin, but the eradication of the past, its shortcomings, its weaknesses, its\nfailures, its diseases and susceptibility to diseases or infirmity of any kind.\nThis is the total erasure of anything connected to the unredeemed nature and\ncharacter of the flesh, the old person who was put to death in baptism, and\nthen resurrected into new life!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

I\ndon't know how far we will take it again today, but last week we were talking\nabout healing for those who\u2019ve been wounded in soul and spirit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Let's\npick up where we left off last week with Isaiah\u2019s prophecy \u2013 the same place\nwhere Jesus started His ministry \u2013 as we take up our study with the wounded\nsoul and the wounded spirit, and see how each area affects the other.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Isaiah 61:1-3<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>1<\/span><\/sup>The Spirit of the Lord GOD is<\/i> upon me; because\nthe LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek<\/span> (<\/span>\u00e5\u00e9\u00f0<\/span>ˆ\u00f2\u00c8<\/span><\/span> -<\/span>€a\u00f2na\u00f2yv:<\/span>depressed<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b> in mind and circumstances, humble, lowly,\npoor); <\/span>he hath sent me to bind up<\/span> (<\/span>L\u00e1<\/span>—\u00e7<\/span><\/span>˜ -<\/span> <\/span>cha\u00f2bash<\/span><\/b>:<\/span>to<\/span><\/span> wrap fully, to heal, to gather back together)<\/span> <\/span>the brokenhearted<\/span> (<\/span>\u00f8\u00e1<\/span>—L\u00dc<\/span><\/span> -<\/span> <\/span>sha\u00f2bar<\/span><\/b>:<\/span>crushed<\/span><\/span>, broken in pieces, torn apart -- + -- <\/span>\u00e1\u00ec\u00c5<\/span><\/span> -<\/span> <\/span>le\u00f2b<\/span><\/b><\/span>:<\/span>[<\/span><\/span>the heart,\nmetaphorically] feelings, the emotions, the will or intellect),<\/span> <\/span>to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the\nprison to them that are<\/i> bound;<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

2<\/span><\/sup>To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of\nvengeance of our God; to comfort <\/span>(<\/span>\u00ed\u00e7<\/span>—\u00f0<\/span><\/span>ˆ - <\/span>na\u00f2cham<\/span><\/b>:<\/span>to<\/span><\/span> breathe strongly upon, to eas<\/span>e<\/span>) <\/span>all that mourn; 3<\/sup>To appoint unto them that mourn\nin Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the\ngarment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees\nof righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Before\nwe dig into this Word again, take a look at a couple of other relevant\nscriptures.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Job 24:1-12 (NASB)<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>1<\/span><\/sup>\u201cWhy are times not stored up by the Almighty, and why do those\nwho know Him not see His days? 2<\/sup>\u201cSome remove the landmarks; they\nseize and devour flocks. 3<\/sup>\u201cThey drive away the donkeys of the\norphans; they take the widow\u2019s ox for a pledge. 4<\/sup>\u201cThey push the\nneedy aside from the road; the poor of the land are made to hide themselves\naltogether. 5<\/sup>\u201cBehold, as wild donkeys in the wilderness they go\nforth seeking food in their activity, as bread for their<\/i> children\nin the desert.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

6<\/span><\/sup>\u201cThey harvest their fodder in the field and glean the vineyard\nof the wicked. 7<\/sup>\u201cThey spend the night naked, without clothing,\nand have no covering against the cold. 8<\/sup>\u201cThey are wet with the\nmountain rains and hug the rock for want of a shelter. 9<\/sup>\u201cOthers\nsnatch the orphan from the breast, and against the poor they take a\npledge. 10<\/sup>\u201cThey cause the poor<\/i> to go about\nnaked without clothing, and they take away the  sheaves from the\nhungry. 11<\/sup>\u201cWithin the walls they produce oil; they tread wine\npresses but thirst.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

12<\/span><\/sup>\u201cFrom the city men groan, and the souls of the wounded<\/u><\/span> (<\/span><\/span>\u00ec\u00ec\u00c8\u00e7<\/span><\/span> <\/span>˜<\/span>cha\u00f2la\u00f2l<\/span><\/b><\/span>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>pierced, to profane\n[by speaking evil], to dissolve, to break apart or prostitute, to weaken one\u2019s\nmind to such a degree that they are willing to sell themselves for\nrelief) <\/span>cry out; Yet God does not pay attention to<\/span> (<\/span>\u00ed\u00e9N\u00d8<\/span><\/span> <\/span>s\u00f1<\/span><\/b>Œ\u00f2ym<\/span><\/b><\/span>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>impute)<\/span> <\/span>folly.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The\npicture that is drawn throughout this chapter in Job conveys a pretty graphic\npicture of the events that cause a person\u2019s soul to be wounded.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

When\nyou follow the discourse between Job and Bildad<\/span> the Shuhite<\/span> in chapter 25, and then the first part of chapter\n26 you see the unfolding of events that create a wounded spirit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Next\nwe consider David, and the words and events that were directed against him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Psalm 64:1-10<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>1<\/span><\/sup>Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life\nfrom fear<\/u> of the enemy. 2<\/sup>Hide me from the secret\ncounsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity: 3<\/sup>Who\nwhet their tongue like a sword, and<\/i> bend their bows to\nshoot<\/i> their arrows, even<\/i> bitter words: 4<\/sup>That\nthey may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and\nfear not. 5<\/sup>They encourage themselves in<\/i> an\nevil matter: they commune of laying snares privily<\/span>;\nthey say, who shall see them?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

6<\/span><\/sup>They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent\nsearch: both the inward thought<\/i> of every one of\nthem<\/i>, and the heart, is<\/i> deep<\/u>. 7<\/sup>But God\nshall shoot at them with<\/i> an arrow; suddenly shall they\nbe wounded<\/u>. 8<\/sup>So they shall make their own tongue to fall\nupon themselves: all that see them shall flee away. 9<\/sup>And all\nmen shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely\nconsider of his doing. 10<\/sup>The righteous shall be glad in the\nLORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

This\nis a tremendous promise that God makes to those who have been wounded by the\ntongue, those who\u2019ve been spoken evil against and conspired against. The Lord\nmakes very clear that HE is the One who will shoot them down \u2013 and He will\ndirect HIS arrow against those who speak evil of His anointed. This was a Word\nthat the Lord gave to Della recently concerning some fellow-ministers who were\nbeing spoken evil of because of their ministry and their teaching.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
