ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: APHIEMI HEALING, Part 23<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

March 28, 2014<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Last Sunday, we had Keith and Elsie Gerner<\/span>\nwith us from Ireland. Keith is one of God's Generals -- a man who was heavily\ninvolved in the birth of the Charismatic Renewal 40+ years ago in Ireland, and\nsaw Holy Spirit break down the walls between those who called themselves\n"Protestants" and those who were Catholic as the Spirit of God fell\nupon people who desired all that God had for them.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Following a time of teaching and sharing, Keith began to walk\namong the folks in our gathering, prophesying over them, ministering healing as\nwell as the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Della was back in the group praying\nwith him over Ashley, who received her prayer language rather liberally. \ud83d\ude42\nKeith turned around and began prophesying over Della and when he took her hand,\nthe power of God hit her and she started to fall. Keith grabbed her by one arm\nwhile Gary hustled behind her to stop her from hitting the concrete floor.\nDella twisted her body as she struggled to regain her balance and in that\nmoment her hip, which had been severely dislocated in a fall the day before,\nslid into place and extreme pain she'd been suffering vanished. Funny, isn't\nit? Brother! Never put God in a box when it comes to healing.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

When the\nHoly Spirit launched us into this area of study some weeks back, I freely admit\nthat I had no idea of the ramifications and the depth of revelation to which we\nwould be taken.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Although\nI am sharing from a place of current and still unfolding revelation, it is\nobvious that Della and I have both been recipients of some pretty amazing areas\nof healing where we had no previous awareness of demonic footholds and\nopportunities for the Enemy to afflict us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus\nbegan His ministry by reading from the Isaiah Scroll in order to reveal the\npriorities He would follow for restoring people to a proper relationship with\nFather.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Isaiah 61:1-3<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>1<\/span><\/sup>The Spirit of the Lord GOD is<\/i> upon me; because\nthe LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek<\/span> (<\/b><\/span>\u00e5\u00e9\u00f0?\u00f2\u00c8<\/span><\/b><\/span> -<\/span><\/b>?a\u00f2na\u00f2yv:depressed<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b> in mind and\ncircumstances, humble, lowly, poor)<\/span><\/b>; he hath sent me to bind up <\/span>(<\/span>L\u00e1?\u00e7<\/span><\/b><\/span>? -<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>cha\u00f2bash:<\/span><\/b>to<\/span><\/b><\/span> wrap fully, to\nheal, to gather back together)<\/span><\/b> <\/span>the brokenhearted<\/span> (<\/b><\/span>\u00f8\u00e1?L\u00dc<\/span><\/b><\/span> -<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>sha\u00f2bar:<\/span><\/b>crushed<\/span><\/b><\/span>, broken in pieces, torn apart<\/span><\/b> -- + -- <\/span>\u00e1\u00ec\u00c5<\/span><\/span> -<\/span> <\/span>le\u00f2b<\/span><\/b><\/span>:<\/span><\/b>[the heart,\nmetaphorically] feelings, the emotions, the will or intellect<\/span><\/b>), <\/span>to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the\nprison to them that are<\/i> bound; 2<\/sup>To proclaim\nthe acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort<\/span> (<\/span>\u00ed\u00e7?\u00f0<\/span><\/span>? - <\/span>na\u00f2cham<\/span><\/b>:<\/span>to<\/span><\/b><\/span> breathe strongly\nupon, to ease<\/span><\/b>)<\/span> <\/span>all that\nmourn; 3<\/sup>To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto\nthem beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for\nthe spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the\nplanting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Notice\nthe sequence of Jesus\u2019 priorities once He\u2019s been anointed:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

1. <\/span><\/b>To preach the good news that\nthose in poverty no longer need live that way;<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

2. <\/span><\/b>To heal wounded, shattered,\nsplintered and fragmented souls;<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

3. <\/span><\/b>To publish and declare liberty\nand freedom for those held in demonic bondage;<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

4. <\/span><\/b>To open the doors of mental,\nemotional, and spiritual prisons; to untie the cords that hold people captive.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The\nhealing that Jesus provides begins with the revelation of how the Enemy has\ngained his footholds in our souls, our minds and our emotions.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

There is\na rather dramatic picture in Mark Chapter 5 that most of our English\ntranslations obscure.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Mark 5:1-17<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>"And they came\nover unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes<\/span>. And when he was come out of the ship,\nimmediately there met him  out of the tombs a man with an unclean\nspirit<\/u>, Who had his<\/i> dwelling(*) among the tombs<\/u>;\nand no man could bind him, no, not with chains: Because that he had been often\nbound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him,\nand the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man<\/i> tame\nhim.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

"And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and\nin the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones<\/u>. But when he saw\nJesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, And cried with a loud voice, and\nsaid, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou<\/i> Son of the Most\nHigh God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. For he said unto him,\nCome out of the man, thou<\/i> unclean spirit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

"And he asked him, What is<\/i> thy name? And\nhe answered, saying, My name is<\/i> Legion: for we are many. And\nhe besought<\/span> him much that he would not send them away\nout of the country. Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of\nswine feeding. And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine,\nthat we may enter into them. And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the\nunclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran\nviolently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and\nwere choked in the sea.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

"And they that fed the swine fled, and told it<\/i> in\nthe city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was\ndone. And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil,\nand had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were\nafraid. And they that saw it<\/i> told them how it befell to him\nthat was possessed with the devil, and also<\/i> concerning the\nswine. And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Both\nMatthew and Luke record this event as well (See Matthew 8:28 and Luke 8:26).\nThree times in the passage from Mark\u2019s Gospel we are told that this man had his\ndwelling among \u201cthe tombs.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In all\nthe years and many dozens of times I\u2019ve read these Scripture passages, I\u2019d\nnever actually read this in the Greek text \u2013 which is revelatory to say the\nleast \u2013 until Della and I heard Katy Souza share in one of her teachings.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Each time\nthe word \u201ctomb\u201d occurs the Greek word is:<\/span> <\/span>\u00ec\u00ed\u00e7\u00ec\u00e5s\u00ef\u00ed<\/span><\/span> <\/span>-<\/span> <\/span>mnemion<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>. <\/span>This word may not strike an immediate chord for some folks, but we have\na word in the English language which is a direct derivative of the Greek: mnemonics<\/i>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Webster\u2019s\nUnabridged Dictionary defines mnemonics<\/i> like this: The science or art of improving the memory, as by the use\nof certain formulas; aids to help in remembering<\/span>.<\/b><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The Greek\nword, mnemion<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,<\/b> is\ndrawn from Greek mythology and comes from the name of the goddess Mnemosyne \u2013\nthe mythological mother of Zeus, and the deity (actually, demonic entity) who\ncaused people to retain memories of past events.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Mnemion<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>, therefore, literally\nmeans: a remembrance; a monument or marker\nwhich causes a recall of the past<\/span>.<\/b><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

J.H.\nThayer, in his Greek-English Lexicon, adds: a\nvisible monument to the past, a visible marker for preserving a memorial of a\nperson, a thing, or some past event<\/span>.<\/b><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

By now,\nit should become obvious why the Gadarene<\/span> demoniac\nwas so tormented. He literally re-lived his past failures, the betrayals of his\npast, events which had traumatized his thoughts, his feelings and his emotions.\nHe lived every day being reminded of how he had been either<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

mistreated,\nsexually abused (the word \u201cunclean\u201d in the Greek text implies this directly) or\nbelittled \u2013 and he was tormented by spirits of fear which literally drove him\ninsane.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

One item\nworth noting before we continue is the word \u201cdwelling\u201d in verse 2 of Mark 5.\nThis word in the Greek text is:<\/span> <\/span>\u00ea\u00e1\u00f4\u00ef\u00df\u00ea\u00e7\u00f3\u00e9\u00f2<\/span><\/span> - <\/span>katoikesis<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>:<\/span><\/b> mansion, place of\nresidence, to reside permanently.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The man\nof Gadara, therefore, lived and dwelled permanently in the torment of past\nmemories. When he came and threw himself at Jesus\u2019 feet, it was not the man who\nspoke or cried out. Rather it was the \u201cunclean spirit.\u201d That spirit said a\ncouple of things that are remarkable for what is said, and what is NOT said,<\/span> <\/span>\u201cWhat have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou<\/i> Son\nof the Most High God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Matthew\nnotes the following question,<\/span><\/span> \u201cart thou come hither to torment us before the time?\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The first\nquestion<\/span><\/u> should\nbe phrased more properly, \u201cWhat do you and I have in common?\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus had\nNOTHING in common with either the man of Gadara, or the evil spirits that had\ntaken hold of him. Jesus had no place of wounding, no place of offense, no\nplace of personal hurt by which evil spirits could gain a foothold in his mind,\nhis thoughts, his emotions or his spirit. There was no place in Jesus that\nneeded healing or restoration. There was no place in Him where evil spirits had\nany kind of foothold. He was ready instead to minister healing and deliverance.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The\nsecond question<\/span><\/u> put\nto Jesus by the demons was revelatory: \u201cHave you come to torment us before the\nappointed time?\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Understand?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The evil\nspirits KNOW with a certainty that there is a day of eternal judgment,\ndamnation and hell fire that awaits them. They know a day awaits when they will\nbe bound and cast into \u201cThe Pit.\u201d Those spirits also knew that Jesus had\nabsolute authority from Father Himself \u2013 that He could command them to go into\nthe bottomless pit before that appointed time \u2013 and they were fearful that\nJesus would do just that! Time, you see, is nothing more than an envelope to\ncontain Satan.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

When\nJesus spoke to \u201cthe unclean spirit\u201d He asked the question, \u201cWhat is your name?\u201d\nOnce again we have an answer which reveals the nature of the demonic torment\nthis man of Gadara suffered.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy name is Legion, for we are many.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Do you\nsee it? The \u201cspokesdemon<\/span>\u201d for the group uses a\nspecific Roman military term, thus identifying the fact that these evil spirits\nhad declared war on this man \u2013 as well as all those others around him \u2013 (and\nwe\u2019ll cover this more momentarily) using a military strategy.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In case\nyou\u2019ve never been exposed to this terminology, a Roman Legion consisted of\n6,600 foot-soldiers and 172 horse-drawn charioteers with precision bowmen ready\nto use their weapons.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Some\nfolks have speculated that the demon\u2019s answer was more metaphoric than anything\nand that it was figurative rather than precise; but I find very little \u2013 if any\n\u2013 Scripture chosen by the Holy Spirit that has not been given for any other\npurpose than to draw some very precise and graphic pictures for the sake of our\nunderstanding and revelation. Once you begin to see this overall picture from a\nspiritual perspective, you realize that evil spirits look for every opportunity\nto work in the lives of people in much the same way as Franco\u2019s \u201cFifth Column.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

During\nthe early days preceding WWII, Spanish General Francisco Franco was recognized\nas the head of Nationalist Spain by the Nazi regime. During the next three\nyears he led a revolt against the Popular Front in Spain and set out to capture\nMadrid. One of Hitler\u2019s military aides was sent to question him concerning his\nplans to take the city.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I\nhave four columns of Infantry \u2013 one on the north, one on the south, one on the\neast and one on the west.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd\nwhich one will you use to take the city,\u201d came the query.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI will\nuse my Fifth Column,\u201d he responded.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYour\nFifth Column? Where is that?\u201d Hitler\u2019s aide asked.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey are\nin the city already. They are dressed and appear as ordinary Spanish citizens\nwho go about their day just like everyone else. They run businesses, they serve\nin public positions, they teach in the schools, and they are musicians on the\nstreet. But they are loyal to me,\u201d Franco continued. \u201cWhen I give the word,\nthey will rise up all at the same time and take over. The city will fall with\nvery little bloodshed. It will be mine.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

And that\nis precisely how Francisco Franco took control of Spain in April of 1939: its\ncities and its government fell because of the infiltration of \u201cthe Fifth\nColumn.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The man\nof Gadara fell to the Fifth Column of evil spirits who took advantage of the\nfact that he continued to nurse his wounds of the past. He lived perpetually\namongst the reminders of his wounds. He rehearsed daily the failures or\nmistakes of past months and years. One by one this Fifth Column of demons began\nto take advantage of each wound, each hurt, each offense, each event in which\nhe had been taken advantage of, and each place of belittlement. Over a period\nof time, because the man was unaware of the tactics and oblivious to the\nencroachment of the Enemy, he was taken over and tormented in increasing ways.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Anger and\nhatred filled his being. Rage became his mantra. Vengeance against his past\npersecutors or offenders became a driving force. The local magistrates and\nofficials tried to capture him and hold him in chains to no avail. Every\nrestraint they put upon him was broken in such demonic displays of power and\nmight that the whole countryside was put in fear.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

When\nJesus commanded the Legion of evil spirits to come out of the man, they had no\nchoice but to obey. They requested that they be allowed to enter the herds of\nswine feeding nearby \u2013 just so they could have physical bodies to dwell in. We\nall know the end of that episode. The swine couldn\u2019t handle the presence of the\ndemons and ran, panic-driven, over the cliff and right into the sea.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The man\nof Gadara was set free completely. Jesus healed him of his past wounds and set\nhim free from the Legion of evil spirits. Not only was the man set free from\nthe demons, the footholds they had in him were eradicated.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

There is\na history lesson in this story as well as a wonderful picture of the healing of\nwounded souls.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Gadara\nwas located in a territory referred to as \u201cthe land of the Gergesenes<\/span>.\u201d\nThe Gergesenes<\/span> derived their name from their ancient\nfather, Gerges<\/span>, whom we know historically as one of\nthe sons of Canaan. During the days of the Patriarchs \u2013 and more specifically,\nthe days of Moses and Joshua, they were referred to among the seven condemned\nnations as the Girgashites<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

They were\nthe only nation of people who did not stand and fight against Israel. Almost to\na man, they fled before Israel and settled down for centuries among the\nAssyrians and the Ammonites (modern-day Jordanians and Iraqis). Most of their\nnational identity was lost and they intermarried with those among whom they\ndwelled, but the cowardly, non-confrontational spirit that epitomized the Girgashites<\/span> remained.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The man\nfrom Gadara was easily taken by the Legion of evil spirits because there was no\nplace of resistance to or against the thoughts and memories he could have\navoided.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

This is a\nclassic lesson for all of us. The apostle Paul wrote the Corinthian Ekklesia<\/span> and said something that is critical in our\nunderstanding (this is my expansion from the Greek):<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

II\nCorinthians 10:3-<\/span><\/u><\/b>5 (RAC Translation & Amplification)<\/span><\/u>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>For though we live, deport and comport ourselves by that which we\nsee, hear, taste, smell and touch, we do not contend with, war after and\nexecute military strategies [against Satan] by that which we see and hear, know\nintellectually, or have opinions of: For the weapons and instruments of our war\nand executed actions [against Satan] do not have their origins and [weak,\nimpotent] operation in natural flesh and human abilities, but they are skillful,\npotent and powerful \u2013 like dynamite \u2013 through God to the demolition and\nextinction of all fortified and guarded places of opinions in opposition,\nBringing down violently and demolishing (to total extinction) all mental reasonings<\/span> and thought processes, and every mental barrier\nor arrogant and self-elevated attitude that justifies itself in opposition to\nthe knowledge of God; bringing into captivity and making a prisoner every\nperception of the intellect and every mental purpose or determination to the compliance\nand submission of Christ and His anointing [in the same way that He complied\nwith the will and desire of the Father];<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBringing\ninto captivity every thought\u201d means bringing under discipline every single\nplace where the Enemy attempts to define us by our previous mistakes, our hurts\nand offenses. We're talking about another area of healing here, folks! This is\nhealing which we can partake of on a daily basis as we sit, eat and drink at\nthe Table of the Lord, breaking the Bread of Life and drinking from the Cup of\nCovenant -- the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

And we\nwill continue on!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
