Let's\ntake a bit of a different direction today in this continuing discussion. Our\nunderstanding of the Blessing of Abraham takes on a whole new dimension once we\nbegin to watch it unfold in Abraham\u2019s life. There is a direct bearing on the\npicture of this blessing to the Table of the Lord and the healing available to\nus. Let\u2019s revisit God\u2019s promise to Abraham from the beginning.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Genesis\n12:1-3<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country,\nand from thy kindred, and from thy father\u2019s house, unto a land that I will show\nthee: And I will make of thee a great nation<\/u>, and I will\nbless thee<\/u>, and make thy name great<\/u>; and thou shalt<\/u><\/span> be a blessing<\/u>: And I will bless\nthem that bless thee<\/u>, and curse him that curseth<\/span>\nthee<\/u>: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed<\/u>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Once we\nbegin to look at the word \u201cbless\u201d and its counterpart \u201cblessing\u201d in the Hebrew,\na whole new realm of understanding begins to unfold.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The\nHebrew word, barak<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,\nis where we derive \u201cbless.\u201d This word consists of only three letters, Beth<\/span><\/i>, Reysh<\/i><\/span>,<\/span><\/b> and Kaph<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/b> The\nsyllable \u201ca\u201d is added for the sake of pronunciation.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Beth<\/span><\/i><\/b> has a host of meanings and a huge picture from which we can easily\ndraw the beginning place of \u201cbless.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> House,\nHousehold, City, Place<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> Origins,\nFountain, Material from which anything is drawn, made or comes forth<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> Belonging to<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> Place from\nwhich determinations are made, limits are set, boundaries are established<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> The Presence\nof<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> Denotes\nMotion to a place<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> To Emit Rays,\nor Radiance<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The Third\nHebrew letter, Kaph<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,\nfinishes out this picture of \u201cbless,\u201d making abundantly clear just what God\noriginally commanded upon Adam, then Noah, then Shem, and \u2014 now \u2014 Abraham:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> Signifies a\nWing<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> Also draws a\npicture of The Hollow of One\u2019s Hand<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> To Spring\nFrom<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> Having Great\nStrength<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> To Be Great<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The\nHebrew word for \u201cblessing\u201d simply adds a fourth letter, \u201cHe<\/i>\u201d<\/span><\/b> (hay), which is the second\nand fourth letters of God\u2019s name: Yowd<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,\nHe, Vav<\/span>, He<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Rabbinical\nscholars believe that the sound of this letter, He,<\/span><\/i><\/b> is what God breathed at the\nbeginning of Creation when He first decreed, \u201cLight BE.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The\nletter, He,<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span><\/b>therefore connotes the following:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> It is first\nand foremost a picture or representation of \u201cA Window\u201d: hence, a Window by\nwhich one Beholds or Sees Manifestation (See Malachi 3:10)<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> A Breathing\n[Out]<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> Demonstrative\nPower<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> A Declaration\nof Life<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> An Answer of\nCompletion<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7<\/span><\/b> Numerically, He<\/i> has\nthe value of \u201c5\u201d; hence \u201cGrace\u201d<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Now\nyou\u2019re beginning to see both \u201cBarak<\/i>\u201d<\/span><\/b> and \u201cBerakah<\/i><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/b> from\nGod\u2019s perspective.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBarak<\/i>\u201d<\/span><\/b> is to bless. It is the decree, the\ndeclarative Word that came forth from the mouth of God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBerakah<\/i><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/b> is the end result of what\nGod commanded. It is the Blessing; and the addition of the second and fourth\nletters of God\u2019s name become the proof, the manifestation that the source of\nthe Blessing is God Himself.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The\nHebrew language has an interesting character to it in that when you finish a\nword with the letter \u201cHe<\/i>\u201d<\/span><\/b> it\nadds the linguistic feminine denominative to it, meaning: \u201cto be fruitful, to\nmultiply, to reproduce.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Are you\nnow beginning to see what it means when God says, <\/span>\u201cBe fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue\nit, and have dominion\u2026.\u201d?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The very\nword \u201cBless\u201d contains all these elements. The \u201cBlessing\u201d is the proof that God\nis the source, the energizer, the force which empowers all these elements of\nHis command decree.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Now,\nlet\u2019s take another look at how this unfolds in Abraham\u2019s life.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Remember\nhow he began life with the shortened \u201cAbram\u201d? There was no \u201cHe\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/b>in his name. Hence, Abram was\nsimply \u201cExalted Father:\u201d a title without any teeth or authority or empowerment\nto become that \u201cexalted father.\u201d Not until God made His Covenant with him did\nthe proof of God\u2019s Blessing have evidence or manifestation that others could\nsee.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The\napostle Paul writes of Abraham like this:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Romans\n4:17-22<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,)\nbefore him whom he believed, even<\/i> God, who quickeneth<\/span>\nthe dead, and calleth<\/u><\/span> those things\nwhich be not as though they were<\/u>. Who against hope believed in hope, that\nhe might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken,\nSo shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own\nbody now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness\nof Sarah\u2019s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but\nwas strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what\nhe had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to\nhim for righteousness.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Now,\nwatch the Blessing unfold in sequence in Abraham\u2019s life.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

(1) <\/span><\/b>The Blessing manifestation begins with a demonstration of extreme\nwealth.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Genesis\n13:1-2<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that\nhe had, and Lot with him, into the south. And Abram was<\/i> very\nrich in cattle, in silver, and in gold<\/u>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

(2) <\/span><\/b>The Blessing manifestation now becomes visible in the miraculous might\nand power demonstrated in Abraham\u2019s great military victory of the most powerful\nkings in the earth.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Genesis\n14:14-17, 18-20<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>And when Abram\nheard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants<\/i>,\nborn in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them<\/i> unto\nDan. And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and\nsmote them, and pursued them unto Hobah<\/span>, which is<\/i> on\nthe left hand of Damascus. And he brought back all the goods, and also brought\nagain his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and\nhe was<\/i> the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him,\nand said, Blessed be<\/i> Abram of the most high God, possessor of\nheaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine<\/span> enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

(3) <\/span><\/b>The Blessing enlarges with the promise of children, and the inheritance\nof land and territories belonging to God\u2019s enemies.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Genesis\n15:1-6, 18-21<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>After these things\nthe word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram:\nI am<\/i> thy shield, and<\/i> thy exceeding great\nreward.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go\nchildless, and the steward of my house is<\/i> this Eliezer<\/span> of Damascus? And Abram said, Behold, to me thou\nhast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir. And, behold,\nthe word of the LORD came<\/i> unto him, saying, This shall not be thine<\/span> heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine<\/span> own bowels shall be thine<\/span>\nheir. And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and\ntell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall\nthy seed be. And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for\nrighteousness.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying,\nUnto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great\nriver, the river Euphrates: The Kenites<\/span>, and the Kenizzites<\/span>, and the Kadmonites<\/span>,\nAnd the Hittites, and the Perizzites<\/span>, and the Rephaims<\/span>, And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites<\/span>, and the Jebusites<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

(4) <\/span><\/b>The Blessing now takes on the character and nature of an everlasting\ncovenant.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Genesis\n17:1-8, 19-21<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>And when Abram was\nninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him,\nI am<\/i> the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.\nAnd I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee\nexceedingly. And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

As for me, behold, my covenant is<\/i> with thee,\nand thou shalt<\/span> be a father of many nations. Neither\nshall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a\nfather of many nations have I made thee. And I will make thee exceeding\nfruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy\nseed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God\nunto thee, and to thy seed after thee. And I will give unto thee, and to thy\nseed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan,\nfor an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. And God said unto\nAbraham, Thou shalt<\/span> keep my covenant therefore, thou,\nand thy seed after thee in their generations.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and\nthou shalt<\/span> call his name Isaac: and I will establish\nmy covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and<\/i> with his\nseed after him. And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed\nhim, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve\nprinces shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation. But my covenant\nwill I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time\nin the next year.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

(5) <\/span><\/b>The Blessing gets put to the test. As Abraham passes the test he now\nreceives the promise and enlarged covenant that his generations will multiply\nas the sand of the sea and the stars of the sky. With this expanded covenant,\nGod now makes clear that the promised Messiah, the Redeemer, the Deliverer will\ncome forth of Abraham\u2019s seed.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

This is\nthe fifth promise and evidence of the Blessing, and it is the proof of Grace \u2014\nthat fifth element inherent in the name of God \u2014 in the Blessing.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Genesis\n22:1-8, 13-18<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>And it came to pass\nafter these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and\nhe said, Behold, here<\/i> I am<\/i>. And he said, Take now\nthy son, thine<\/span> only son<\/i> Isaac, whom\nthou lovest<\/span>, and get thee into the land of Moriah<\/span>; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one\nof the mountains which I will tell thee of.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass,\nand took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood\nfor the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had\ntold him. Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place\nafar off. And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and\nI and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it<\/i> upon\nIsaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went\nboth of them together. And Isaac spake<\/span> unto Abraham\nhis father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am<\/i> I, my\nson. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is<\/i> the\nlamb for a burnt offering? And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a\nlamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold\nbehind him<\/i> a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham\nwent and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of\nhis son. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh<\/span>:\nas it is said to<\/i> this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall\nbe seen.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the\nsecond time, And said, By myself have I sworn, saith<\/span>\nthe LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son,\nthine<\/span> only son<\/i>: That in blessing I will\nbless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the\nheaven, and as the sand which is<\/i> upon the sea shore; and thy\nseed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the\nnations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The\nBlessing and the Covenant of Blessing was not one-sided; it had a two-fold\nrequirement upon the recipient. Abraham never thought of it as a requirement\nuntil God actually spelled out for him what he had already demonstrated:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

(1)<\/span><\/b> Absolute\nObedience, and<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

(2)<\/span><\/b> Keeping\nthe Covenant with a visible sign that every recipient and heir of the Covenant\nBlessing must have upon himself.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

This sign\nwould be an embarrassment since it would be upon the reproductive part of his\nbody, and something which he could not visibly display under normal\ncircumstances: circumcision.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Return\nto Genesis 17:10-14<\/u>:<\/b> <\/span>This is<\/i> my\ncovenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee;\nEvery man child among you shall be circumcised. And ye shall circumcise the\nflesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and\nyou. And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man\nchild in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money\nof any stranger, which is<\/i> not of thy seed. He that is born in\nthy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and\nmy covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. And the\nuncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that\nsoul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The\nnon-keeping of this sign of circumcision would separate any would-be heir from\nthe Covenant and block the Blessing in his life.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
