ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: APHIEMI HEALING, Part 14<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Before we get into today's discussion, I'd like to remind those\nof you who may have health issues that it would be our great pleasure to\nminister healing to you. George Robinson, Dwain McKenzie, Monty Lamb, Randy Ramhoff<\/span>, and Della and I would be delighted to pray over\nyou and decree and declare your complete healing and restoration according to\nthe promises and covenant we have with the Lord Jesus Christ. The number to\ncall and the access code are at the end of this Coffee Break.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Let's\ncontinue today with our direction in this study to show you that healing -- and\nspecifically, aphi\u00e9mi<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> healing\n-- is a product of and<\/span> integral to a covenant made by\nFather God with us through the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In\nprevious Coffee Breaks, we have talked about a word that takes place within\ncovenant: <\/span><\/b><\/span>k<\/span><\/i><\/b>heseed<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.<\/span> Gesenius<\/span>, in his Hebrew-Chaldee<\/span>\nLexicon, explains the word like this in its primary applications: <\/span>to love\nwith intense desire; to show oneself gracious; zeal (towards anyone); ardor;\nkindness; benevolence; the grace, favor and mercy of God; tender mercies; lovingkindness<\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

History\ntells us that folks who entered into covenant enjoyed a place of oneness and\nunity that almost defied explanation. First of all, the two primary parties to\nthat covenant were revered and held in high esteem by all of the family members\non both sides of the covenant. One did not enter lightly into covenant, and the\nmarks in each other's flesh denoting that covenant were held sacred.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

One\nof the first events to occur during the covenant ceremony was the exchange of\ncloaks or outer coverings. It symbolized the giving of all that a person was,\nmaking all that he had available to his covenant partner: his wealth, the\nresources of his household, the intervention of his family in time of need or\ndistress, and his personal guarantee or oath upon which the covenant hung.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Consider\nhow the Lord showed His cloak during the covenant ceremony. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Abraham\nis put into a deep sleep as the Lord shows up to pass between the halved\nanimals and stand in the blood. The KJV puts it that "when the sun went\ndown, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed\nbetween those pieces."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

That's\nsomewhat obscure in the way it gets translated, but the word translated\n"smoking" is the same word that gets used in some instances for cloud\nor vapor. Remember the cloud or pillar of smoke that stood guard for<\/span> Israel when the armies of Pharaoh came after them? Now do\nyou have the picture? It is metaphoric of the covering, the defense of the Lord\non behalf of His covenant people.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The\nparties to covenant in Biblical times (and even in later centuries) literally\nbecame One Family! One ancient tradition we've seen -- especially in Celtic and\nEnglish history -- is where each family took the other's name. Thus, for\nexample, when David Edwards married Marie Smithson as a product of two\nfamilies' covenant, the Edwards family became Smithson-Edwards or\nEdwards-Smithson, depending on who initiated the covenant. Likewise, the\nSmithson family became Smithson-Edwards, or Edwards-Smithson. By this\ntradition, the families and their descendants became forever linked together as\na single family.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In\nour own Capener<\/span> family, a number of years ago when my\nfather was still alive, he received a letter from a Ralph Capener<\/span>-Hurst.\nDad responded and asked Ralph about the hyphenated name, expressing curiosity\nas to whether Ralph might be a relative somewhere in our family lineage. Return\ncorrespondence from Ralph indicated that one of his Capener<\/span>\nancestors covenanted with a family whose last name was<\/span> Hurst.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Their covenant, and the subsequent\nmarriage between members of each family resulted in the two families taking the\ncombined name, Capener<\/span>-Hurst. Thus all members of\nthat particular branch of the Capener<\/span> family, and all\nmembers of that particular branch of the Hurst family became known thereafter\nas Capener<\/span>-Hurst.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

We\noften see hyphenated names in English royalty, but few people seem to realize\nthat those hyphenated names represented covenants of blood that were cut between\nsome of the royal families of England and Europe. It is an aspect of <\/span>k<\/span><\/i><\/b>heseed<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> denoting grace,\nkindness, favor and benevolence between covenanted families. <\/span>k<\/span><\/i><\/b>heseed<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span><\/i>is the core of covenant. It describes what we could call an\n"alter ego." Let me explain. When a person is in a covenant\nrelationship, their covenant partner virtually becomes their alter ego, their\n"other self."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

It\nwould be appropriate to compare this to the relationship and the covenant bond\nthat the Lord has developed between Della and me. In more than 30 years of\nmarriage, fellowship with one another, enjoying each other's companionship,\nlaboring together in the Kingdom and walking with one another through life's\nadventures, we have so become One with each other that whenever anyone sees\nDella or me -- even if the other person isn't around at the moment -- they see\nthe other. If you see Della, you see me. If you see me, you see Della! You get\nthe picture. She is my \u201ccounterpart, my other self.\u201d I am her \u201ccounterpart, her\nother self.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

On\nnumerous occasions in previous Coffee Breaks, I've talked about the\nsignificance of the Greek word, onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,<\/span><\/b> (translated\n"name" in the New Testament) and how it goes way beyond the concept\nof one's name in meaning. Paralleling the Hebrew, shem<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,<\/span><\/b> it\ndenotes one's character and very makeup, their personality, their identity,\ntheir rank and power, their honor, integrity and authority. Thus,\nthe taking of each other's name within the framework of covenant symbolized\ntheir taking of each other's character, rank and honor and backing it with each\nother's integrity<\/u><\/b>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

It\nis said that <\/span>k<\/span><\/i><\/b>heseed<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span><\/i>is the core of covenant. To this we can add, shem<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/i> Now you begin to understand the very\ncovenant nature of what Jesus said when He told His covenanted disciples, <\/span>"All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye,\ntherefore, and teach all nations,<\/span> <\/span>immersing them in the character, the nature, the makeup, the rank\nand authority<\/span><\/u> <\/span>of the\nFather, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things\nwhatsoever I have commanded you....."<\/span> <\/span>(Matthew 28:18-20\nwith my emphasis)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Intrinsic\nto the covenant that Jesus Christ made with us, and our acceptance and\ncommitment to His covenant, is the change of our onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>, our shem<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>. Our name is changed. We now become\nknown as "Christ-ians<\/span>." Once we have been\nbaptized -- immersed - INTO Jesus' onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> (shem<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>), we are "in\nChrist." At the same time, we get to partake of the Table of the Lord and\nin so doing, we "eat of Christ" (in a symbolic way, and yet there is\nreal significance to this eating) and in so doing, demonstrate "Christ in\nus." That sounds really strange, I know, to put it that way <\/span>(<\/span>and, PLEASE, don't go running off and\nthinking I'm promoting some weird doctrine!<\/span><\/i>)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Nevertheless,\nour acceptance of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Covenant in a very literal\nspiritual sense (and we are first and foremost spirit beings) means that we\ntake Him into us in order to initiate the transformation, the re-creation, and\nthe restoration of the image and likeness we were first designed for.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In\nthe place of blood, the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus flows in our veins as a\nresult of His new covenant with us. That's the implication of our being able to\ntake advantage of the Table of the Lord. Instead of halving in two the bodies of\nheifers, lambs and partaking of their roasted flesh in an earthly covenant, we\npartake of the body of the Lord Jesus Christ, which was given for us, in the\nsymbol of the bread.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Instead\nof drinking blood mingled with wine as ancient heathen customs once held, we\nsimply drink wine -- because of Jesus' command to us -- (Yeah, I know. Some\nfolks have a religious thing about drinking grape juice instead, but it's still\nall the same thing!) as representative of His shed blood. (<\/span>Interestingly enough,\nwine is often referred to as "spirits" in colloquial speech, and it\nIS representative, in this case, of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus.<\/span><\/i>)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In\nso doing, we regularly remember His covenant of blood, and the sacrifice He\npaid when His body was given for our healing and our deliverance from the curse\nof death, disease and infirmity and put to death on the Cross that we might\nenter into an eternal covenant bound by His Word which NEVER fails and is\ninviolable, and implemented in our lives by a living faith.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Now\nmaybe you're beginning to understand my early comments about how the whole\nconcept of covenant has been so diluted and watered down throughout the\ncenturies that we've lost the true sense of it. Yes?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Now\nmaybe you can begin to get a grasp on the New Testament (Covenant) and the use\nof the word, agape<\/span><\/i><\/b>, (in\nplace of the Hebrew <\/span>k<\/span><\/i><\/b>heseed<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>)<\/span><\/i><\/b> as the\ndescriptor by which the Lord commands relationship.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Put\nthat within Jesus' statement, <\/span>"By this shall all\nmen know that you are my disciples, if you have (love)<\/span> <\/span>agape-<\/span>k<\/span>heseed<\/span><\/span> <\/span>for one another."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Make\nsense?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus\nwasn't talking about some kind of "sloppy agape," or some kind of\nmushy-gushy "Oh, I love you," kind of malarkey like we see so often\nin the body of Christ today. He was talking about covenant! He was talking\nabout standing with each other to the death! He was talking about our putting\nour lives on the line for one another as fellow-Christians and members of that\nbody He took to the Cross!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

By\nTHAT shall all men know we are His disciples. By agape-kheseed<\/span><\/span> <\/i><\/b>will\nthe world know that we have a relationship that defies the understanding of\ntoday's world!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Remember\nwhat Paul wrote? <\/span>"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall\ntribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or\nsword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day\nlong<\/span>; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these\nthings we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels,\nnor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor\nheight, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from\nthe love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."<\/span> <\/span>(Romans\n8:35-39)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

That's\na statement made from the perspective of covenant. That is a perfect visual\nof <\/span>k<\/span><\/i><\/b>heseed<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>. <\/span><\/i>Within the framework\nof covenant, <\/span>k<\/span><\/i><\/b>heseed<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> describes a\ncondition in which each other's blood flows in each other's veins: so deep is\nthe sense of caring and covering for each other.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Are\nyou beginning to understand my continuing comments about how the concept of\ncovenant has been so diluted and watered down throughout the centuries that\nmodern society -- and particularly Christians -- have lost the true sense of\nit?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

I\nsaid this before and I'll say it again: maybe you can now begin to get a grasp\non the New Testament (Covenant) and the use of the word, agape<\/span><\/i><\/b>, as the graphic picture of the kind\nof relationship Jesus commands.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In\nBiblical times, covenant relationships defined the character and nature of\nthose in covenant with each other. So deep was the sense of responsibility and\nconcern for each other that they would gladly die for one another if the\nsituation so demanded. It transferred over to the family members within that\ncovenant so that each party to the covenant, their wives, children, grandchildren,\ngreat-grandchildren -- and even aunts, uncles and cousins -- all became\nidentified with each other.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The\nentire Old Testament -- the word "testament" all by itself scarcely\nconveys the whole picture -- is a picture of God's covenant -- His first\ncovenant -- with Abraham and his descendants. Everything framed in the Old\nTestament is described within the structure of covenant relationship.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

OK.\nHow about this from David's writings? <\/span>"He that dwelleth<\/span> in the secret place of the most High shall abide under\nthe shadow of the Almighty."<\/span> (see Psalm 91)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

THAT's\ncovenant writing!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

"I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress:\nmy God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the\nfowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers,\nand under his wings shalt<\/span> thou trust: his truth shall\nbe thy shield and buckler.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

"Thou shalt<\/span> not be afraid for the\nterror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth<\/span> by\nday; Nor for the pestilence that walketh<\/span> in darkness;\nnor for the destruction that wasteth<\/span> at noonday. A\nthousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it\nshall not come nigh thee. Only with thine<\/span> eyes shalt<\/span> thou behold and see the reward of the wicked."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

David\nKNEW the implications of His covenant relationship with God. He KNEW what <\/span>k<\/span><\/i><\/b>heseed<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>meant as it related\nto the Lord. He KNEW the tender mercies and lovingkindness<\/span>\nof the Lord. He KNEW what it meant to be protected and covered by a\ncovenant-keeping God whose existence was wrapped up in his. He KNEW the love of\nthe Lord in a dimension that -- sadly -- too many Christians today fail to see.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Watch\nhow David describes the covering and protection, the zeal of the Lord on his\nbehalf.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

"Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even\nthe most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall\nany plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee<\/span>, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up\nin their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThou shalt<\/span> tread upon the lion and\nadder: the young lion and the dragon shalt<\/span> thou\ntrample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I\ndeliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall\ncall upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will\ndeliver him, and honour<\/span> him. With long life will I\nsatisfy him, and show him my salvation."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Go\nback for a second to our review of Abraham and the Lord, and the covenant that\nGod made with him. Remember the "smoking furnace" and the\n"burning lamp" that depicted the physical presence of the Lord as He\npassed between the broken pieces of the animals? Remember the analogy of the\nsmoke and the cloud as the covering and protection of the Lord as a portion of\nHis part of the covenant to Abraham?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Good!\nNow you understand where David was coming from when he wrote this Psalm.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Everything\n-- and I do mean EVERYTHING! -- written in both Old and New Testaments comes\nfrom the perspective of the blood covenant.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Let's\nwrap this up with the concept of aphi\u00e9mi<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> -- erasure,\neradication of the past -- finishing the picture. By fulfilling the old\nCovenant with His suffering, His death on the Cross and His resurrection from\nthe dead, Jesus implemented a new Covenant, a New Testament on our behalf.\nThose who accept and acknowledge Jesus' sacrifice as the Son of God, and His\nauthority to create this New Covenant, and enter into this Covenant through\nrepentance and water baptism literally have the remission -- aphi\u00e9mi<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> -- <\/span><\/i><\/b>of their sins, and everything\nthat goes with it: sickness, disease, infirmity, weakness, poverty,\nvulnerability to death, etc.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Aphi\u00e9mi<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> applies to the\ncurse that came upon the human race when Adam ate of the Tree of the Knowledge\nof Good and Evil. It also applies to the cancellation of everything that the\ncurse brought with it. We just have to appropriate it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

And\nthere's more! Next week, let's take a deeper look at "The Law of the\nSpirit of Life in Christ Jesus" from both a judicial and experiential\nperspective.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
