ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: A NEW ONOMA, Part 2<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Good\nMorning, Good Morning, Good Morning!<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Got\nyour coffee poured yet this morning? Come and join me. I've got some really\ndark roasted coffee that I picked up from Kaladi<\/span>\nBrothers in Anchorage. Alaskans know what I'm talking about. Years ago I used\nto drive down the Seward Highway in Anchorage in the wee hours of the morning,\nand when you went past their place, you could smell the coffee roasting in\ntheir roasters. Fact is, you could smell it for blocks either way. That's a\ntantalizing odor, folks! Anyway, I brought some of it back with me to Sunnyside,\nand that's what I'm enjoying as I write this piece.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let's\nbegin our discussion today with a prophetic word in Revelation:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"Him that overcometh<\/span> will I make\na pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out; and I will write\nupon him the name<\/u><\/b> (<\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/span>) <\/b>of my God, and\nthe name<\/u><\/b> (<\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/span>) <\/b>of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which\ncometh down out of heaven from my God; and I will write upon him my new\nname<\/u><\/b> (<\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/span>)!"<\/span> <\/span><\/i>(Revelation 3:12 KJV)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nprophetic word is -- in my personal opinion -- one of the least understood and\nmost profound promises ever made to God's people -- and especially those who\nhave pressed in spiritually for the complete and total transformation that\ncomes in the midst of an intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Without\ngetting ahead of myself too much in this overall discussion, let me just say\nthat this is a prophecy and promise of total transformation into the character,\nthe personality, the very makeup of the Lord Himself -- His very<\/span> <\/span>onoma<\/span><\/span>, if you please --\nand it comes as a product of our overcoming. Nothing about this promise is\nautomatic for anyone. There is an ongoing process of overcoming the enemies of\nGod who have pitted themselves against us with the objective of spoiling the\nplans and purposes of the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

As\nalready noted in the previous Coffee Break, I did a series titled, Seven\nNations, Seven Letters, in which I detailed the principal areas of overcoming\ndescribed in the seven letters to the Ekklesia<\/span> in\nRevelation 2 and 3. That's not what this series is about, however. My objective\nwith this discussion is to share what Holy Spirit's objective is in changing\nand transforming us into the image and likeness of the Lord Jesus Christ as He\nprepares us for His return. (<\/span>The archives at our new website (http:\/\/www.RegnersMorningCoffee.com<\/a>)\nhave yet to be updated for access to the older Coffee Breaks, but if you want\nto read the series on the Seven Letters, you can simply send me an email and\nI'll forward it on to you.)<\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme pick up with where we left off in the last Coffee Break in our discussion of\nthe Seven Spirits of God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nRevelation 4:5, John writes,<\/span> <\/span>"Out of the throne proceeded lightnings<\/span>,\nand thunders, and sounds; and seven lamps of fire burning before the throne,\nwhich are the seven Spirits of God."<\/span>\n<\/span>Now\nhe illustrates a very basic part of the nature and makeup of the Lord in the\npicture of these lamps of fire, and I will deal with this as we go forward with\nthis discussion.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\ncase you think that I'm really stretching a point to say that the seven Spirits\nof God comprise the<\/span> <\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>of Jesus Christ, read on.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John\nmakes his fourth reference to these seven Spirits of God in Revelation 5:6,\nwhere he says,<\/span> <\/span>"And I saw and\nbeheld in the midst of the throne and the four living creatures, and in the\nmidst of the elders, a Lamb standing as having been slain, having seven horns\nand seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God<\/u> which have been sent\ninto all the earth."<\/span> <\/span>Finally, John makes clear that the Lamb\nwhich was slain (whom they all knew to be Jesus Christ) was He in whom\nconsisted the Seven Spirits of God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nwon't take the time in this discussion to deal with all of these metaphors\nsince they are peripheral to that which the Holy Spirit is saying concerning\nthe new<\/span> <\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span>It is important,\nhowever, to identify these seven Spirits. They appear throughout the Scriptures\nfrom beginning to end, and I will list them in the order of their appearance in\nthe way they are specifically identified:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

1.<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>The Spirit\nof Judgment and Burning<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>(Isaiah 4:4)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

2.<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>The Spirit\nof Wisdom and Understanding<\/span><\/b> <\/span>(Isaiah 11:2)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

3.<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>The Spirit\nof Counsel and Might<\/span><\/b> <\/span>(Isaiah 11:2) -- referred to by the\napostle Paul as: The Spirit of Power<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

4.<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>The Spirit\nof Knowledge and of The Fear of the Lord<\/span><\/b>\n<\/span>(Isaiah\n11:2) also referred to by Paul as: The Spirit of a Sound Mind<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

5.<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>The Spirit\nof Grace and Supplications<\/span><\/b> <\/span>(Zechariah 12:10)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

6.<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>The Spirit\nof Truth<\/span><\/b> <\/span>(see John 15:26)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

7.<\/span><\/b> <\/span>The Spirit of Glory<\/span><\/b> <\/span>(see\nI Peter 4:14)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Before\nwe get into any depth in discussing these seven Spirits, it is important to\nunderstand the framework which encompasses them. John -- in his first general\nepistle to the Ekklesias<\/span> at large -- wrote the\nfollowing,<\/span> <\/span>"Beloved, we should\nlove<\/span> <\/span>(<\/span>agape<\/span>)<\/span> <\/span>one another, because love\n(<\/span>agape<\/span>) is of God; and everyone who loves (with<\/span> <\/span>agape<\/span>) has been begotten of God and knows God. He who does not love\n(with<\/span> <\/span>agape<\/span>) does not know God, because God is love (<\/span>agape<\/span>) ......... And we have known and have believed the love (<\/span>agape<\/span>) which God has toward us. God is love (<\/span>agape<\/span>), and he that abides in love (<\/span>agape<\/span>) abides in God, and God abides in him."<\/span> <\/span>(<\/span>See\nI John 4:7-8, 16)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Twice\nhe makes the statement that "God is love:" more specifically, that He\nis<\/span> <\/span>agape<\/span><\/i><\/b>. The seven Spirits of God, therefore,\noperate within the framework of<\/span> <\/span>agape.<\/span><\/i><\/b>\n<\/span>The\nsum of these seven Spirits is<\/span> <\/span>agape.<\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Agape<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span>is\na dimension of love which has been often taught and preached throughout the\nBody of Christ, and -- unfortunately -- rarely understood. There is nothing\nmushy, gushy, sloppy, or emotional about<\/span>\n<\/span>agape.<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span>Yet\nit evokes emotions in a powerful way. For years I have heard it taught as\n"commitment," or "a decision of the will." That is about as\nsad and tragic a definition as has ever been contrived! While the will is<\/b>\nincorporated in the act of loving,<\/span>\n<\/span>agape<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>goes\nfar beyond cold logic and\/or some impersonal sense of duty or commitment\nwrapped up in "a decision of the will."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

This\nis a word which derived its origins in the work of the Septuagint translators\nwho sought for a means in Greek language structure which would appropriately\ndefine the love-relationship described in the Song of Solomon.<\/span> <\/span>Agape,<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span>and\nits companion verb,<\/span> <\/span>agapao<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,<\/span><\/i><\/b>\n<\/span>were\ncoined by the translators to define a limitless love which followed neither\nlogic, nor emotion (as seen in the more common Greek word,<\/span> <\/span>phileo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>), but predicated its existence\nentirely on the basis of that which was best for the recipient.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nGreek scholars, Lachmann<\/span> and Tregelles<\/span>,\nafter much research into the historical usage of this word, defined<\/span> <\/span>agape<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>as:<\/span> <\/span>Love going forth from one's whole being and taking up its abode\nwithin another as though they were one being.<\/span><\/b>\n<\/span>One\nof the best definitions given is that of the scholar and Hebrew exegete, Gesenius<\/span>:<\/span> <\/span>To\nprize someone so highly as to be virtually unwilling to give them up for any\nprice -- no matter what the cost.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Agape<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span>is\nnot a romantic love, yet it transcends all romance. It is not based in human\nrelationship, yet it encompasses and rises above human relationship. It grips\none\u2019s being with a power which belies the love and tenderness which exist at\nits core.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\nmore one attempts to define<\/span> <\/span>agape<\/span><\/i><\/b>\n<\/span>in\nhuman terms, the harder it becomes.<\/span>\n<\/span>Agape<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>transcends\nnormal human emotions and abilities. It defies human logic and loves, even when\nthat love is not reciprocated. Hence, Jesus made the statement to Nicodemus\n(who was trying to understand the whole concept of spiritual regeneration),<\/span> <\/span>"For God so loved (<\/i><\/span>agape<\/span><\/i>)<\/span><\/i> <\/span>the world that He gave\nHis only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him shall not perish, but\nshall have life eternal."<\/span> <\/span>(John 3:16)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Agape<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>takes\non a revolutionary dimension and perspective, however, when we realize that it\nencompasses the aforementioned seven Spirits of God. Consider<\/span> <\/span>agape<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>within\nthe confines of "Judgment and Burning." Then "Counsel and\nMight." O.K? Have you ever perceived<\/span>\n<\/span>agape<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/b>as\nthe "Spirit of Power?"<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Obviously,\nthese are not concepts or perspectives which are normally considered. In my\nroughly seventy years of knowing and walking with the Lord, I don\u2019t believe I\nhave ever heard anyone teach on<\/span> <\/span>agape<\/span><\/i><\/b>\n<\/span>with\nthis perspective, or incorporating these concepts.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis the love of our Bridegroom, Jesus Christ, for His Bride! It is elemental and\ncentral to His<\/span> <\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>. It is imperative,\ntherefore, that we understand His<\/span>\n<\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\nwhole thought of "judgment" is usually seen within the context of\nexecuting punishment upon evildoers. Doomsayers, who fear "The Great\nTribulation," see judgment as doom and gloom. That is a perspective warped\nby the lack of a genuine<\/span> <\/span>agape,<\/span><\/i><\/b>\n<\/span>love-relationship\nwith Jesus Christ. The Spirit of Judgment and Burning can, and may indeed,\nbring cataclysmic woes to those who play at religion and church, but it is\nactually defined as:<\/span> <\/span>setting things right<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/b>for,\nand on the behalf of, those in union with Jesus Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis primary to Jesus'<\/span> <\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/i><\/b>\n<\/span>Judgment\nmust be executed upon Satan. There is a day of everlasting torment and burning\nin store for him. Those who choose, by an act of their will, to agree with\nSatan's position must -- of necessity -- suffer his judgment. That doesn't mean\nthat Jesus just jumps up and down for joy over the prospect of executing\njudgment upon those who reject Him. Peter wrote that<\/span> <\/span>"The Lord is ........ not willing that any should perish,\nbut that all should come to repentance."<\/span>\n<\/span>(II\nPeter 3:9) <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nword, "willing," in the original Greek text is<\/span> <\/span>boulomai<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Before\nI continue, let me digress momentarily.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\ncontext of this word,<\/span> <\/span>boulomai<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,<\/span><\/i><\/b>\n<\/span>appears\nwithin the framework of \u201cdesire.\u201d Jesus\u2019 mind and will are not framed in such a\nway as to purpose destruction (from some place of revenge) on all who do not\nknow Him. Rather, His heart\u2019s desire is to see \u201call\u201d avoid the sentence of\ndeath which came upon the human race through partaking of the Tree of the\nKnowledge of Good and Evil. He yearns for a people who will repent of their\npartaking of the Tree of Knowledge, who will repent of their giving in to the\ndesires of the flesh, who will repent of their association and agreement with\nSatan, and every lying spirit which is a part of his<\/span> <\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

(All\nevil spirits, incidentally, are lying spirits. Every spirit of fear is a lying\nspirit. Every spirit of anger and rebellion is a lying spirit. Every spirit of\nwitchcraft, control and manipulation is a lying spirit. Every spirit of\nfornication, adultery, and sexual deviancy is a lying spirit.) When we listen\nto, and follow the suggestions, the inducements, the seduction, or the\nimpelling commands of any demonic spirits (or our flesh), we place ourselves in\na place of agreement with Satan \u2013 and, co-incidentally, in opposition to Jesus\nChrist. This causes us to miss the mark or the target God has set before us, to\nerr, hence to \u201csin.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nGreek word used throughout the New Testament for \u201csin\u201d is<\/span> <\/span>hamartia<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/b> <\/span>This\nis an archery term taken from the ancient Greek Olympics which means to:<\/span> <\/span>miss the mark; to go wide of the target.<\/span><\/b> <\/span>The\nmetaphorical context of its usage is this: we are the arrow shot from the bow.\nWe have been sent towards a target. If we bend or twist in flight, we veer away\nfrom the target and miss the mark. Hence, we err. Applying this metaphor to our\nrelationship, the target towards which we have been sent is a place of intimate\nrelationship with Jesus Christ.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

To\nmiss that mark is to miss His objective for us. While an arrow, in the natural\nsense, has no will or mind of its own to determine its course, it does \u2013 by\nvirtue of its makeup \u2013 have its own individual quirks (e.g., the wood may be\nslightly cross-grain; there may be a weakness in one section which causes it to\nwarp slightly when in flight; there are a host of other oddities which can\ncause an arrow to miss its mark, no matter how true the original aim and course\nof the marksman). We, on the other hand, have the ability to choose while in flight\nto remain true to the set course, or deviate from that course through our\nagreement or participation with Satan and his wicked spirits, or yielding to\nthe flesh which resists the forces of the winds buffeting us in mid-flight.\nHence,<\/span> <\/span>hamartia<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.<\/span> <\/span>Hence, error.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nhave been raised with the notion that judgment is only something which\naddresses gross misdeeds \u2013 that judgment is not for the believer in Christ. In\nactual fact, we must<\/b> be the recipients of judgment. There must<\/b> be\ncorrection brought about for \u201cmissing the mark,\u201d else we will never<\/b> rise\nto the place of adornment for the Lord; and \u2013 more than that \u2013 He will never\nhave a Bride who is His co-equal counterpart.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Repentance,\ntherefore -- from Jesus\u2019 viewpoint \u2013 begins with coming to a place of agreement\n(in the Spirit<\/u> \u2013 not simply<\/b> intellectually) with Him in knowing<\/b>\nwe have missed the mark and the objective He has set for us; and then\nsubmitting our will to His direction and purpose. Repentance is a turning from\neating of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Repentance is renouncing\nour place (or places) of agreement with Satan, his spirits, and our flesh.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

O.K?\nPardon the digression, but it seems an appropriate aside to our overall\ndiscussion on the <\/b><\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span>of\nthe Lord. To be transformed into His <\/b><\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span>absolutely\nrequires the kind of repentance just described.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"Burning"\nis also something we seem to shy away from like "The Plague."\nHowever, it too is integral to Jesus'<\/span>\n<\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.<\/span> <\/span>In Isaiah 4:4, where Isaiah first\nrefers to the "Spirit of Judgment and Burning," the word used in the\nHebrew text is<\/span> <\/span>ba.ar<\/span><\/i><\/b>\n<\/span>which\nis translated,<\/span> <\/span>To kindle and consume\nwith fire; to exterminate<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\n<\/span>Thus\nwe are given a picture of the character of this Spirit -- this part of Jesus'<\/span> <\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\n<\/span><\/b>--\nin the execution of His righteous judgment upon those enemies of the Lord who\ntake up a stance against His Beloved, and the extermination of all those wicked\nspirits who rise up against His Bride.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nis an unusual picture of those enemies in David's cry (Psalm 139:19-24 KJV),<\/span> <\/span>"Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, Oh God: depart from me,\ntherefore, ye bloody men. For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine<\/span> enemies take thy name in vain. Do not I hate them, Oh\nLord, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against\nthee? I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies. Search me, Oh\nGod, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any\nwicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Do\nyou see the intent of David's prayer? He clearly recognizes that the real\nenemies of the Lord are within one's own being -- that those who rise up\nagainst God are wicked spirits whose entire being exists for the sole reason to\nspeak against the Lord and His purposes. His prayer, therefore, is,<\/span> <\/span>"Search me, Oh God, and know my heart; try me, and know my\nthoughts: and see if there be any wicked path, or course of direction in\nme...."<\/span> <\/span>(the use of the Hebrew word,<\/span> <\/span>de.rek<\/span><\/i><\/b>,<\/span> <\/span>for "way" actually is meant\nfor<\/span> <\/span>a path, a course of\naction, a course of direction<\/span><\/b>.) David\u2019s concern was that the Lord\nreveal any of those "wicked" hiding within his character, his makeup,\nor his thoughts.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I\ncan see that I'm not even close to finishing this discussion on the Spirit of\nJudgment and Burning as a part of Jesus'<\/span>\n<\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>, so let me stop here\nand we will take this up the next time.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
