Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love\nher, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom <i>is<\/i> the principal thing; <i>therefore<\/i>\nget wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she\nshall promote thee: she shall bring thee to <span class=SpellE>honour<\/span>,\nwhen thou dost embrace her. She shall give to <span class=SpellE>thine<\/span>\nhead an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Then\nhe goes on to say,<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;color:#0F243E'>Proverbs\n4:10-13<\/span><\/u><\/b><b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;color:#0F243E'>:<\/span><\/b>\n<span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"NewsweekGrotesqueEight\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#C00000'>Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life\nshall be many. I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in\nright paths. When thou <span class=SpellE>goest<\/span>, thy steps shall not be\nstraitened; and when thou <span class=SpellE>runnest<\/span>, thou <span\nclass=SpellE>shalt<\/span> not stumble. Take fast hold of instruction; let <i>her<\/i>\nnot go: keep her; for she <i>is<\/i> thy life.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Solomon\nthen caps off this picture of counsel with the following:<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#0F243E'>Proverbs 4:20-23<\/span><\/u><\/b><b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";color:#0F243E'>:<\/span> <\/b><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"NewsweekGrotesqueEight\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#C00000'>My son, attend to my words; incline <span class=SpellE>thine<\/span>\near unto my sayings. Let them not depart from <span class=SpellE>thine<\/span>\neyes; keep them in the midst of <span class=SpellE>thine<\/span> heart. For they\n<i>are<\/i> life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep\nthy heart with all diligence; for out of it <i>are<\/i> the issues of life.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>When\nSolomon opens up his counsel with the Proverbs (which by the way is sometimes\nreferred to as The Book of Wisdom), he begins like this:<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#0F243E'>Proverbs 1:1-5<\/span><\/u><\/b><b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";color:#0F243E'>:<\/span> <\/b><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"NewsweekGrotesqueEight\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#C00000'>The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; To\nknow wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; To receive\nthe instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; To give subtlety to\nthe simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. A wise <i>man<\/i> will\nhear [counsel], and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall\nattain unto wise counsels:<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\ncolor:black'>The connection between the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, and\nthe Spirit of Counsel and Might \u2013 and the revelation of how they function in\ncooperation with each other is demonstrated in the last portion of Proverbs 1.\n(Since we quoted this portion -- and it <b><i>is<\/i><\/b> a bit lengthy -- in\nthe last Coffee Break, I'll refer you back to it. Read Proverbs 1:20-32.)<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\ncolor:black'>Let's move on now to the third of the Seven Spirits of God: the\nSpirit of Knowledge and of The Fear of the Lord.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>As\nIsaiah continued his prophecy concerning the <span class=SpellE><b><i><span\nstyle='color:#244061'>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> of the Messiah, he described\nhim as having the Spirit of Knowledge and The Fear of the Lord. As you might\nwell realize, this Spirit of Knowledge differs radically from the\n&quot;knowledge&quot; associated with the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and\nEvil.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\nHebrew word, <b><i><span style='color:#244061'>da.ath<\/span><\/i><span\nstyle='color:#244061'>,<\/span><\/b> which comes from the root, <span\nclass=SpellE><b><i><span style='color:#244061'>ya.da<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><b><i><span\nstyle='color:#244061'>,<\/span><\/i><\/b> and is translated:\n&quot;knowledge,&quot; could be better defined as<\/span><span style='font-size:\n13.0pt'>:<\/span> <b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Graphite Light ATT\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#663300'>understanding, wisdom, awareness<\/span><\/u><\/b><b><u><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";color:#663300'>.<\/span><\/u>\n<\/b><span class=SpellE><b><i><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#244061'>Ya.da<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <span style='font-size:13.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>is a primary root word with so many\napplications and uses it would take perhaps four or five pages just to write an\nexegesis. In brief, depending on usage and accompanying verbs and\/or\naccusatives in the Hebrew language, it can mean:<\/span> <b><u><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Graphite Light ATT\",\"serif\";color:#663300'>knowledge\n(in a general sense)<\/span><\/u><\/b><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";color:#663300'>, or:<\/span> <\/u><\/b><b><u><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Graphite Light ATT\",\"serif\";color:#663300'>the\nability to foresee, to perceive, to exercise wisdom, to know experientially<\/span><\/u><\/b><b><u><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt'>, etc<\/span><\/u><\/b><span style='font-size:13.0pt'>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsobodytext2><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Knowledge\nwhich comes from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil brings fear,\nunbelief, doubt, pride, arrogance -- along with a host of things too numerous\nto mention here -- and most of all, death.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Knowledge\nwhich comes from the Spirit of Knowledge comes as revelation -- an indefinable <b><i>knowing<\/i><\/b>\nin one's spirit. It brings life, peace, and a continuity of relationship with\nthe Lord.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>As\nI shared in a previous Coffee Break series, when Adam and Eve were first\ncreated, they were given every piece of knowledge at creation that they would\never need for functioning in the manner God first ordained. In Him was all the\nrevelation they would need -- for eternity! There was no need for the\n&quot;knowledge of good,&quot; and there certainly was no need for the\n&quot;knowledge of evil.&quot;<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\nserpent sold Eve a lie in making her believe that they were missing some vital\ninformation -- &quot;knowledge&quot; -- which would make them &quot;as\nGod;&quot; that this information had been deliberately withheld so as to keep\nthem in a place of ignorance and subservience. Thus was born the lie that\n&quot;knowledge is power; knowledge is authority; knowledge is essential to the\nwell-being of the human race.&quot;<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>It\nwas -- and is -- pure, unadulterated garbage! Knowledge which comes by any\nother means than the Spirit of Knowledge is missing one-half of its very\nexistence: The Fear of the Lord. The quest for the knowledge which comes by\nstudy and education always leaves an individual wanting for more. They are\nnever satisfied.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Paul\nwrote to Timothy warning him to avoid the peril of associating with those who\nare<\/span> <span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"NewsweekGrotesqueEight\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#C00000'>&quot;ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of\nthe Truth.&quot;<\/span> <span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>(II\nTimothy 3:7) He went to great lengths to describe those who have this drive to\ncontinue \u201cadding to their education&quot; and the motives behind that drive<span\nstyle='color:#C00000'>.<\/span><\/span> <span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\n\"NewsweekGrotesqueEight\",\"serif\";color:#C00000'>&quot;For men shall be lovers\nof self, lovers of money, boasters, arrogant and proud, blasphemers,\ndisobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, hardened\nof heart and unforgiving, slanderers, lacking in self-control, fierce and\nsavage, haters of those who do good, betrayers, stubborn and self-willed,\npuffed up and impressed with their own accomplishments, loving the pleasures of\nthe flesh rather than being lovers of God, having a pretense of righteousness\nand Godly authority, but denying the [true] power of God. From these people,\nsteer clear and avoid any kind of relationship.&quot;<\/span> <span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>(II Timothy 3:2-5\n-- my translation)<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>A\nquick analysis of these &quot;Tree of Knowledge-eaters&quot; shows a graphic\npicture of people in chaos. Why? It is the Spirit of Revelation. It comes with the innate sense of\nthe holiness and presence of the Lord, and an integrated sense of awe,\nreverence, and respect for the presence, power, wisdom and authority which give\ntruth and credence to that revelation. For Jesus, it was central to the very\nessence of His existence since He shared that awe and reverence of His Father,\nin whom was all Truth, Knowledge and Revelation.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\ncontrast of <span class=SpellE><b><i><span style='color:#365F91'>pa.chad<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\nis that it is the <span class=SpellE><b><i><span style='color:#365F91'>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\nof the spirits of fear and terror which accompany -- often unsuspectingly to\nthe one &quot;learning&quot; -- the knowledge of good, or the knowledge of\nevil. Satan's knowledge is the absolute counterfeit to the Spirit of Knowledge,\nwhich is integral to the Bridegroom's existence.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\nSpirit of Knowledge contains the Fear of the Lord, whereas the Tree of\nKnowledge contains the Fear of Evil (and the Fear of Man, and the Fear of\nDeath, etc.)<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>For\nthose who want to disavow the Lord God and the revelation which comes through\nthe Spirit of Knowledge, there is knowledge available; but that knowledge will\noften ultimately lead to sickness, to ill health, to disease, to a dependency\non illicit or prescribed drugs, alcohol, or nicotine, and finally to death.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Wholeness,\nhealth, strength, life, vitality, vigor, vibrancy: these are all the hallmarks\nof the <span class=SpellE><b><i><span style='color:#365F91'>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\nof Jesus Christ. They are the promise, and some of the gifts, in the dowry of\nthe Bridegroom to the Bride -- so long as she can overcome the temptation to\neat of the Tree of Knowledge.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\nSpirit of Knowledge and <span class=SpellE><b><i><span style='color:#365F91'>Yir.ah<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>\nare a part of the character and nature of <b><i><span style='color:#365F91'>agape.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Consider,\nthen, John's statement in his first epistle (I John 4:18):<\/span> <span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"NewsweekGrotesqueEight\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#C00000'>&quot;There is no fear<\/span> <span style='font-size:13.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";color:#C00000'>(<span class=SpellE><b><i>phobos<\/i><\/b><\/span><b>\n-- terror<\/b>)<\/span> <span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"NewsweekGrotesqueEight\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#C00000'>in <i>agape<\/i>, but perfect and complete <i>agape<\/i> casts out\nall fear<\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"NewsweekGrotesqueEight\",\"serif\";\ncolor:green'>.&quot;<\/span> <span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>There\nis a unique significance to this statement.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsobodytext2><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>We\nall know that we are triune beings created in the image of God. Just as God\nexists in three dimensions as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we exist in three\ndimensions as Spirit, Soul, and Body. We also know that Spirit always has the\npreeminence over Soul and Body. For each of these dimensions, there are\nindividual manifestations in the realm of love, as well as the in realm of\nfear.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>At\nthe level of the Body (or the flesh), love is manifested as <span class=SpellE><b><i><span\nstyle='color:#365F91'>eros<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><b><u><span style='color:#365F91'>:<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/span>\n<b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Graphite Light ATT\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#663300'>lust, erotic desire, unreasoning craving<\/span><\/u><\/b><b><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";color:#663300'>.<\/span><\/b>\n<b><i><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#365F91'>Eros<\/span><\/i><\/b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\n\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'> is totally one-sided and demanding of\nself-gratification. (It is important to note that <span class=SpellE><b><i><span\nstyle='color:#365F91'>eros<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> never appears anywhere in\nScripture, either in the N.T. Greek, or the Septuagint, as a definition of\nlove. Two other Greek words are used instead: <b><i><span style='color:#365F91'>pathos<\/span><\/i><span\nstyle='color:#365F91'>,<\/span><\/b> which means:<\/span> <b><u><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Graphite Light ATT\",\"serif\";color:#663300'>depraved\npassions, the <span class=SpellE>unstifled<\/span> and uncontrolled urges of the\nflesh<\/span><\/u><\/b><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>;<\/span><\/u><\/b>\n<span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>and, <span\nclass=SpellE><b><i><span style='color:#365F91'>epithumia<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><b><span\nstyle='color:#365F91'>,<\/span><\/b> which means:<\/span> <b><u><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Graphite Light ATT\",\"serif\";color:#663300'>the\nlusts of the flesh, desires [in the mind] for that which is forbidden to the\nflesh<\/span><\/u><\/b><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>;<\/span><\/u><\/b>\n<span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>this word is\nalso used to describe illicit sexual intercourse.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\nword, <span class=SpellE><b><i><span style='color:#365F91'>eros<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><b><i><span\nstyle='color:#365F91'>,<\/span><\/i><\/b> was <b>never<\/b> used in Scripture\nbecause it was the name of the Greeks' god of love. This so-called god was\ntheir incarnation of the basest and most licentious of sexual activities -- all\nunder the guise of &quot;love.&quot; The existence of this false god (which\nessentially made one's fleshly desires to be their god) permitted the Greeks\u2019\npromotion and encouragement of homosexuality and lesbianism.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Correspondingly,\nthe Fear of Death operates at this level since death can only affect the body\nor the flesh. The Fear of Death is responsible for many major diseases and\nafflictions of the flesh. Panic attacks, asthma, nerve disorders, \u201cclinical\ndepression\u201d and heart attacks, are just a few of the symptoms of the Fear of\nDeath. Dare-devil stunts and many supposedly daring acts almost always stem out\nof the Fear of Death as an unconscious reaction to the need within one's being\nto &quot;face it down.&quot;<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>In\nthe realm of the Soul, the mind, or the will, love takes the form of <span\nclass=SpellE><b><i><span style='color:#365F91'>phileo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> (<\/span><i><span\nstyle='font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>pronounced, phi-lay'-oh<\/span><\/i><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>). This is the word\nwhich is translated as &quot;brotherly love.&quot; It is the love which\nfunctions in most marriages. It operates principally on the basis of\nreciprocation: that is to say, &quot;I love you so long as you respond and love\nme.&quot;<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span class=SpellE><b><i><span style='font-size:13.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";color:#365F91'>Phileo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><b>\n<\/b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>is a\nconditional love, based primarily in prevailing circumstances. It is an\nemotional love capable of bringing great highs and lows to an individual's\nfeelings. It is the love of friendships. It is the word used most frequently in\nclassical Greek literature to describe romantic love. <span class=SpellE><b><i><span\nstyle='color:#365F91'>Phileo's<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><i> <\/i>domain is that of\nhuman relationships. It is the basis for most &quot;fellowship&quot; between\nbelievers in spite of the fact that fellowship is supposed to be predicated\nmostly in <b><i><span style='color:#365F91'>agape<\/span><\/i><span\nstyle='color:#365F91'>.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>By\nthe same token, in the realm of the Soul, there is a fear which attacks\nrelationships, and it is described in Scripture as The Fear of Man. This fear\nis the greatest hindrance to genuine fellowship, and it -- perhaps more than\nany other spirit of fear -- impedes the growth of believers by interfering with\nthe development of trust. The greatly needed capacity to expose our weaknesses\nwithout fear or intimidation is one of the primary purposes of the <span\nclass=SpellE>Paraklete<\/span> during the preparation and processing which\noccurs within <span class=SpellE>Ekklesia<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=ecxmsonormal><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Let's\npick it up here next week.
