Hiya<\/span><\/b><\/span>,\nFolks! This is the best day of your life! Sure it is. Yesterday\u2019s gone, and\ntomorrow isn\u2019t here yet. Fact is, if you were any better, you\u2019d be dangerous! Hohohohoho<\/span>\u2026\u2026.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Now wouldn\u2019t you rather start the day like that instead of some\nold cranky, wheezy, whiny, \u201cI jus<\/span>\u2019 don\u2019t know if I oughtta<\/span> get outta<\/span> bed t\u2019day<\/span> or not! My bones are jus\u2019 so tarred! Reckon, I gots<\/span> to, though. Won\u2019t get nuthin<\/span>\ndone in bed\u2026..groan\u2026.\u201d<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

See. Get your spirits livened up. Get your mind alert. Grab a\ngood cup of that really dark double French Roast made in the French Press, or somethin<\/span>\u2019 like that! Wake up, sleepy!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Let's\npick up where we left off last week. I made the observation that the Bible is\nnot "The Word!" Jesus Christ is The Word!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Here's\nhow the apostle Paul expressed things, <\/span>"All Scripture is\nGod-breathed and advantageous and profitable for teaching, for conviction, for\ncorrection, for [the] discipline which [comes] in righteousness, that the man\nof God may be complete and fully fitted for that excellence with which he is\noccupied."<\/span> <\/span>(II Timothy 3:16-17 -- my translation)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Do\nyou get it? Do you understand the significance of this statement? The\nphrase, <\/span>"for [the] discipline which [comes] in righteousness,"<\/span> makes clear the\nfact that the Scripture is "advantageous and profitable" for those\nwho are dikaiosune<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>walking (currently\nliving) in an ongoing state or condition of rightly-related personal\nrelationship<\/span><\/u><\/b> <\/span><\/b>with the Lord. <\/span>One does not walk with words on a piece\nof paper; they walk with someone who is alive and personally close! The\nScripture, therefore, has been given for the purpose of witnessing to\nand with<\/u> that which Jesus Christ is saying to us personally<\/b>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

On\nat least five occasions, Jesus made the statement,<\/span> <\/span>"I speak to you in truth,"<\/span> <\/span>or,<\/span> <\/span>"Of truth I say to you........" <\/span>It was impossible for\nHim to speak out of anything but Truth, since Truth was an essential part of\nHis character and makeup. Truth, likewise, was integral to the existence of\nHoly Spirit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

At\nthe Last Supper, as Jesus was sharing with the disciples the specifics of the\nBridegroom\/Bride relationship, He made a specific promise concerning the coming\nof the Paraklete<\/span>. Virtually everything He had shared\nup to this point during the supper was drawn from the classical Jewish wedding\nas He drew a picture of Himself as the Bridegroom, and the disciples (along\nwith all who would follow later) as the Bride.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

In\nkeeping with the well-established custom of a Bridegroom sending a Paraklete<\/span> to comfort the Bride-to-be during the absence of\nthe Bridegroom (as he prepared their marital home), and prepare her for the day\nof joining, Jesus now said,<\/span> <\/span>"I will ask the Father, and He will give you a different\ncomforter -- the Paraklete<\/span> -- who will remain with\nyou forever: the Spirit of Truth, whom the world has not the power to receive,\nbecause it does not see Him nor perceive Him, but you know Him because He\nabides with you, and shall be in you."<\/span> <\/span>(John 14:17 -- my\ntranslation)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

In\nso saying, Jesus has made clear that this "different comforter," the Paraklete<\/span>, is One with Him. Only moments before, Jesus had\nsaid to Thomas, <\/span>"I am the Way, <\/span>the\nTruth<\/span><\/u>, and the Life." <\/span>(John 14:6)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Now\nHe has said that He will send the Paraklete<\/span>, whom He\nrefers to as "The Spirit of Truth." Obviously if Jesus was "The\nTruth," and the Paraklete<\/span> was "The Spirit\nof Truth," they were in absolute harmony and unity with one another, and\nthe Paraklete<\/span> was coming to*<\/span> <\/span>"....be in you."<\/span> <\/span>(*see note below)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

You\nfollow His train of logic, I am sure!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

If\nJesus' onoma<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/i> <\/b>was\n"The Truth," Holy Spirit was also "The Spirit of Truth,"\nand they were One with each other, and He -- The Spirit of Truth -- abides with\nus, and in us, it follows that we all become One -- in Truth!<\/b><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

O.K.\nso far?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Let's\nlook at it another way. Part of Jesus' onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/b>incorporates the\nSpirit of Truth. Part of the character of the Spirit of Grace is to comfort.\nJesus was, therefore, a Comforter. He described the Paraklete<\/span>\nas being The Spirit of Truth. He also described Him as being "another\ncomforter." Yet, they were One, both being part of the triune Godhead. The\nFather, therefore, was Truth.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

If\nHe, the Spirit of Truth, dwells with us, and also in us, He becomes a part of\nour onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>.<\/b> We,\ntherefore, have experienced an initial change of our onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> so as to become like\nHim. The Paraklete<\/span> dwells with<\/u> us so\nas to guide us into all Truth. He dwells in<\/u> us so as to mold,\nshape, and change our onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> so\nas to make us One -- not only with Him -- but also with our Bridegroom-to-be.\nThis is imperative if we are to be like Jesus when we see Him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

[*Note:\nIt is worthy of notation that the particular phraseology in John 14:17 puts the\nHoly Spirit with<\/u> us at all times. However, Jesus says that He<\/span> <\/span>"shall be in you."<\/span> <\/span>This is a\nfuture-tense promise conditional upon our response to the Paraklete<\/span>.\nI believe that the experience which we have come to know as the "baptism in\nthe Holy Spirit" is the initiating place for the fulfillment of that\npromise. Those who have been "saved" but not yet baptized in the Holy\nSpirit, are, for the most part, relegated to external leadership by the Paraklete<\/span> (through the unfolding of physical or natural\nevents) because they lack the ability to hear "in the Spirit."\nExternal leadership is vastly different than internal leadership.]<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Later,\nat the Last Supper, Jesus said,<\/span> <\/span>"When He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you\ninto all truth..."<\/span> <\/span>(John 16:13 KJV)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

When\nHoly Spirit came, we are told that<\/span> <\/span>"They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to\nspeak with other tongues as the Spirit gave to them to utter forth."<\/span> <\/span>(Acts\n2:4 -- literal translation)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Obviously\nthe Spirit had to be within if they were "filled." Likewise, the\nsubsequent changes which occurred in these former cowards, who had fled when\nJesus was tried before Pilate and Herod, came from the internal presence and\nleadership of the Paraklete<\/span>. The beginning of change\nto their onomas<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,<\/span><\/b> therefore, came only after they were\n"filled with the Holy Spirit" and indwelt by Him.)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Truth\nis mentioned not less than 90 times in the New Testament, but John uses this\nterm 47 times (or more than half) of all its occurrences in the NT. There\u2019s good\nreason why John is the dominant writer concerning Truth: he, of all the\ndisciples, had the closest bond of love with Jesus during the 3 \u00bd years of\nJesus\u2019 ministry. Who better, therefore, to describe the attributes and\ncharacteristics of the Spirit of Truth.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Observe!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

John\n16:7-14<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/b>Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that\nI go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I\ndepart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the\nworld of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they\nbelieve not on me;<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

"Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me\nno more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet\nmany things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the\nSpirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not\nspeak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that<\/i> shall he\nspeak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall\nreceive of mine, and shall show it<\/i> unto you."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I\nJohn 4:1-6<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/b>"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits\nwhether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the\nworld.   <\/sup>Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every\nspirit that confesseth<\/span> that Jesus Christ is come in\nthe flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth<\/span>\nnot that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is\nthat spirit<\/i> of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it\nshould come; and even now already is it in the world.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

"Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them:\nbecause greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of\nthe world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth<\/span>\nthem. We are of God: he that knoweth<\/span> God heareth<\/span> us; he that is not of God heareth<\/span>\nnot us. Hereby know we the Spirit of Truth, and the spirit of error."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

To\nthese Scriptures we add the following introduction by John of Jesus:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

John\n1:14<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/b>And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld\nhis glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and\ntruth.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

It\nis in love \u2013 agape<\/span><\/i><\/b> love\n\u2013 that Truth, the Spirit of Truth is revealed. Right after John says, <\/span>\u201cHereby know we the Spirit of Truth and the spirit of error,\u201d<\/span> he writes the\nfollowing:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I\nJohn 4:7-13<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span><\/b>Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every\none that loveth<\/span> is born of God, and knoweth<\/span> God. He that loveth<\/span> not knoweth<\/span> not God; for God is love. In this was manifested\nthe love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the\nworld, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God,\nbut that he loved us, and sent his Son to be<\/i> the propitiation\nfor our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.\nNo man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth<\/span> in us, and his love is perfected in us. Hereby\nknow we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his\nSpirit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Now,\nlet\u2019s see if we can extract from these Scripture references the character and\nnature of the Spirit of Truth.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

1. He\nshall guide you into all truth. (John 16:13)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

2. Whatever\nHe hears (from Father), that shall He speak. (John 16:13)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

3. He\nwill show you things to come [give prophetic revelation]. (John 16:13)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

4. He\nglorifies the Lord Jesus Christ [only]. (John 16:14)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

5. Whatever\nJesus says and gives, He [The Spirit of Truth] declares and announces to those\nwho hear and believe. (John 16:14) The Greek word, \u201canangello<\/i><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/b> occurs\nin this verse giving the sense that when we have angelic visitations where\ntruth is revealed, it is the Spirit of Truth which has sent them.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

6. Jesus\ngoes on to clarify that everything that He has comes from the Father, and that\ntherefore the Spirit of Truth transmits and conveys that to us. (John 16:15)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

7. The\nSpirit of Truth is the Comforter \u2013 the Paraklete<\/span>.\n(John 14:16)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

8. The\nSpirit of Truth will not speak to those in the world because they neither see\nHim, nor know Him, and they will not receive anything He has to say or to give.\nNeither will He reveal anything of the Father or the Son to anyone who does not\nlove the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 14:15-16)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

9. For\nthose who walk in love and an intimate relationship with Jesus, the Spirit of\nTruth will remain with them in perpetuity (Greek: aion<\/span><\/b><\/span>:<\/span><\/b><\/i> throughout\neternity -- more accurately, "the eternities of the eternities").\n(John 14:16)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

10. For\nthose who walk in love \u2013 AND in the Spirit \u2013 Jesus\u2019 promise is that the Spirit\nof Truth will dwell IN<\/b> us. (John 14:17)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

11. A\nprimary job of the Spirit of Truth is to reprove, confute, convict and admonish\nthe world of, for and because of sin. (John 16:8-11)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

12. Along\nwith reproving the world of sin, the Spirit of Truth has the responsibility to\nconvince (Greek: elengcho<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>)\nthe world of righteousness (Greek: dikaiosune<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>:<\/span><\/b> justification and innocence through\nChrist Jesus). (John 16:8-11)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

13. The\nthird element of the Spirit of Truth\u2019s primary purpose and mission to the world\nis to demonstrate that the \u201cprince of the world\u201d has been judged by God,\nconvicted, stripped of his authority and sentenced to everlasting hell fire.\n(John 16:8-11)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

14. The\nSpirit of Truth always reveals and shows to those who walk in love the spirit\nof antichrist, its operation and its presence in the world around us. (I John\n4:2-3)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

15. At\nthe same time The Spirit of Truth always uncovers the spirit of error and makes\nclear how the spirit of error is rooted in the spirit of antichrist. He\naccomplishes this with a simple question: will the spirit that is speaking hear\nthe Word of the Lord, or will it rebel against that Word, insisting on having\nits own way and clinging to its own ideas, thoughts or teachings of man. (I\nJohn 4:6)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

16. When\nJohn begins his Gospel, he clearly states that Jesus was full of the Spirit of\nGrace and the Spirit of Truth \u2013 that in Jesus Christ was the Spirit of Grace\nand the Spirit of Truth manifested in the flesh. (John 1:14)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

17. The\nSpirit of Truth only manifests and demonstrates in the presence of agape <\/span><\/i><\/b>love. (I John 4:7-13)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

18. It\nis the Spirit of Truth that brings to us the confidence and assurance \u2013 the\n\u201cwitness of the Spirit\u201d \u2013 that we dwell in the Lord Jesus Christ, and that He\ndwells in us. (I John 4:13)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

For\nthose who have ears to hear and eyes to see, the Spirit of Truth is the one who\nreveals the character and nature of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the one who\nconvinces us \u2013 convicts and reproves in love \u2013 of error and misunderstanding.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nSpirit of Truth is our Guide in all spiritual revelation.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

While\nthe Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation (Understanding) brings us revelation and\nshows us what the Lord is up to, it is the Spirit of Truth who applies that\nrevelation in a practical, workable dimension.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

We\nstill have one more of the Seven Spirits of God to consider in order to see all\nof the primary facets or aspects of Jesus' onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>. <\/span><\/b>See\nyou next week!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
