ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: A NEW ONOMA, Part 11<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

April 5, 2013<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It was back in the spring of 1983. I was heading up the ministry\nand operations of the Christian Broadcasting Network - Alaska, and pastoring<\/span> a fellowship called The House of Praise. Because\nof the public (and even national) attention we had garnered because of articles\nwhich had appeared in national publications, as well as my appearances on\nnational television, there were people around me who began to treat me like I\nwas really SOMETHING (if you know what I mean).<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I woke up one day to the realization that folks were putting me\non a pedestal and giving me an honor that didn't belong to me. It shook me to\nmy very roots, and I began to pray, "Lord, whatever it takes, get me off\nthis pedestal! Knock it out from under me so that folks realize this is all\nyour doing -- not mine."<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Whewww<\/span><\/span>!!! If I'd thought\nabout it more, I think I might have changed that prayer just a bit! My pedestal\ngot knocked out from under me, all right! Brother, did it ever! Within a couple\nof months, I was shell-shocked! CBN-Alaska was dissolved along with our\nrelationship with the national network, the leadership of the fellowship had\nbeen passed on to another brother in the Lord, and a whole fistful of other\nevents were unfolding that I won't even try to get into here!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

On\nthe one hand the quieting voice of Holy Spirit was reassuring me that my\nprayers had been answered, and there was a settled peace in my spirit. On the\nother hand, there was the very heartfelt knowledge that I was no longer\ncarrying a weight that belonged to the Lord. It didn't matter anymore that I\nwasn't everyone's fair-haired wonder; people weren't trying to bestow an honor\nand glory on me that was God's.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

By\nthe way, in case you think that I handled everything well and behaved honorably\nin the midst of it all, I've got a bridge to sell you cheap! \ud83d\ude42 Ahhh<\/span>, but that's another topic. Human flesh does not do\nwell when it is given the honor, the glory, the adulation, the worship (and\nthat's what it amounts to!) that rightfully belongs to the Lord. We see the\ndisasters that result in people's lives when they are idolized by the public.\nThe issue becomes compounded when that adulation and glory are suddenly yanked\nfrom them.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nunderstand where I'm going with this, don't you? I don't need to belabor\nthings. The point is that glory -- The Spirit of Glory -- when it is seen in us\nas the Bride of Christ, is a reflection of the character and nature of the Lord\nJesus. THAT'S<\/b> the way it is supposed to be.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We WANT<\/b> His\nGlory -- the Spirit of Glory -- to so pour out of every aspect of our existence\nthat society sees Jesus Christ -- NOT us! When that happens, our<\/span> <\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span>has\nbecome merged into His onoma<\/span>, and His<\/span> <\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span>has\nbeen merged into us!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Anyway,\nI'm getting ahead of myself. Let's take a slightly different look at the Spirit\nof Glory.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As we conclude our look at the Seven Spirits of God, once again\nfor the sake of review, here are the Seven Spirits as they occur in Scripture.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

1. The Spirit of Judgment & Burning<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

2. The Spirit of Wisdom & Understanding<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

3. The Spirit of Counsel and Might<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

4. The Spirit of Knowledge and the Fear of the Lord<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

5. The Spirit of Grace & Supplications<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

6. The Spirit of Truth<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

7. The Spirit of Glory<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John 1:14<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld\nhis glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of\ngrace and truth.<\/span>\n<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I Peter 4:14<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>14<\/span><\/sup>If ye be reproached for the name (onoma<\/i><\/span>)\nof Christ (<\/span>Christos<\/span><\/i>: the Anointed\nOne and His anointing<\/u><\/span>), happy (<\/span>makarios<\/span><\/i><\/span>: blessed, prosperous<\/u><\/span>) are\nye<\/i>; for the spirit of glory (<\/span>doxa<\/span><\/i><\/span>: very visible\nand apparent honor, glory, dignity, praise; a weighty presence<\/u><\/span>) and of God resteth<\/span> (<\/span>anapauo<\/span><\/i><\/span>: to take up\nresidence, to take ease, to refresh oneself<\/u><\/span>) upon\nyou: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\nwhole concept of Glory is one pretty much lost on the world of today. People\nhave become so rational, so academically-minded, so concerned with human logic\nthat the thought of some tangible \u2013 and yet inexplicable \u2013 visible presence\nmanifesting on a person gets lost in the translation. Peter describes the\nmanifestation of the Spirit of Glory as being the product of the onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> \u2013\nthe character, the makeup, the personality, the very essence of \u2013 the Lord\nJesus Christ evidenced in us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

More\nthan that, the Spirit of Glory comes with the anointing. Peter specifically\nuses the expression, \u201c<\/span>If you are reproached for the<\/span> <\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i>of<\/span><\/span> the Anointed One and His anointing \u2026..\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

That\nanointing is somewhat akin to a mantle. You\u2019ll recall our discussion some weeks\nback concerning Elijah and Elisha, and the mantle of Elijah that he threw over\nElisha. Here is an instance of the use of the word \u201cmantle\u201d in Scripture which\nis separate and distinct from every other use.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\nHebrew word which occurs ONLY in I Kings 19 and II Kings 2 where it is\ntranslated \u201cmantle\u201d is the word, \u2018addereth<\/span><\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/b> Although\nthis word could be translated out as \u201csplendid robe\u201d or \u201cgoodly garment\u201d its\nproper rendering is \u201cglorious splendor.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

It IS<\/i><\/b> a\ncovering garment of a type, but the word \u2018addereth<\/span><\/span><\/i> <\/b>denotes the addition of\nspecial recognition, someone of renown, someone set apart for some kingly duty\nor commission. In fact, it designated the unique anointing that was upon\nElijah. He \u2013 among all of the Old Testament prophets \u2013 became the prototype of\nthe miracle-working prophet.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

When\nthat anointing and mantle was passed to Elisha and he received the\n\u201cdouble-anointing,\u201d the Glory of God was so marked upon him that not one single\nperson ever questioned his commissioning from God. The Spirit of Glory rested\nupon Elijah and doubly manifested on Elisha. There was a presence on them that\nwas so strong it brought fear to the enemies of Israel.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

We\nhave previously noted that the Seven Spirits of God occupy the Throne of God \u2013\nthat they are in fact the essence of Who He is. When God fulfilled His promise\nto Hannah and Samuel was born, she lifted up her voice in praise and worship.\nAs she worshiped the Lord, she prophesied. Here is a portion of her prophecy:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I Samuel 2:7-10<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>The LORD maketh<\/span> poor, and maketh<\/span> rich: he bringeth<\/span> low, and\nlifteth<\/span> up. He raiseth<\/span> up\nthe poor out of the dust, and<\/i> lifteth<\/span>\nup the beggar from the dunghill, to set them<\/i> among\nprinces, and to make them inherit the Throne of Glory<\/u>: for the\npillars of the earth are<\/i> the LORD\u2019S, and he hath set the world\nupon them. He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent\nin darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail. The adversaries of the LORD\nshall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD\nshall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king,\nand exalt the horn of his anointed.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Everything\nthat Hannah prophesies is a small picture of how the Spirit of Glory operates\nand manifests. Samuel\u2019s mentor was the High Priest Eli. Without getting into\nthe whole story, the Philistines raided Shiloh, in the process taking the Ark\nof the Covenant. During the battle that ensued, Hophni<\/span>\nand Phinehas<\/span>, Eli\u2019s two sons, were killed.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

When\nEli received the news that his sons had been killed, it provoked a reaction in\nhim, but when he heard that the Ark of the Covenant had been stolen, he fell\nbackward breaking his neck on the gate. Phinehas<\/span>\u2019\nwife was just giving birth to their son when the news of Phinehas<\/span>\u2019\ndeath was brought to her. She named their son, Ichabod<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I Samuel 4:21-22<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>And she named the child Ichabod<\/span>,\nsaying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken,\nand because of her father in law and her husband. And she said, The glory is\ndeparted from Israel: for the ark of God is taken.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

It\nwas a striking event. Because of the sins of Israel, and because of the sins of\nEli\u2019s two sons which he had done nothing to stop, God permitted the Ark of His\npresence to be removed from the nation of Israel. Hannah had prophesied that\nthe Spirit of Glory was the defense of God\u2019s people. When the Ark was taken,\nthe Spirit of Glory departed from Israel and they were left defenseless.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Not\nuntil David retrieved the Ark of the Covenant and established it in a simple tabernacle\natop Mount Zion in the midst of Jerusalem did the Spirit of Glory return to\nIsrael. David\u2019s 33 years of nonstop praise and worship in Israel set the stage\nfor the Temple to be built by Solomon. At the dedication of the Temple almost\n40 years to the day from the ushering in of David\u2019s Tabernacle, the Spirit of\nGlory manifested Himself in a way Israel had never seen.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

II Chronicles 5:11-14<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the\nholy place<\/i>: (for all the priests that were<\/i> present\nwere sanctified, and<\/i> did not then<\/i> wait by\ncourse: Also the Levites which were<\/i> the singers, all of them\nof Asaph<\/span>, of Heman<\/span>, of Jeduthun<\/span>, with their sons and their brethren, being<\/i> arrayed\nin white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end\nof the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with\ntrumpets:) It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were<\/i> as\none, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when\nthey lifted up their<\/i> voice with the trumpets and cymbals and\ninstruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying<\/i>, For he\nis<\/i> good; for his mercy endureth<\/i><\/span> for\never: that then<\/i> the house was filled with a cloud, even<\/i> the\nhouse of the LORD; So that the priests could not stand to minister by\nreason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God<\/u>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

In\nevery instance where we see \u201cGlory\u201d represented throughout the Word, we see a\nweighty presence. Most of us have seen folks get \u201cslain in the Spirit.\u201d This is\na rather trite expression, but what happens is that when the Spirit of Glory\nmanifests Himself, there is a weight that comes with it which prevents people\nfrom standing. For at least the last 60 years, I\u2019ve seen more folks than I can\ncount go down under the power of God. Because I\u2019ve also seen the phony acts of\npeople who were putting on a show for their own reasons, I\u2019ve resisted this\nwith every ounce of my being.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

At\na conference Della and I attended in Red Deer, Alberta a few years ago with\nSteven Shelley, Paul Keith Davis, Bobby Connor and Charlie Robinson, there was\nno amount of resistance that could keep me standing. I was down and couldn\u2019t\nget up. The weight of the presence of the Spirit of Glory was such that I\nsimply had no power to get up; and I stayed there on the floor until He lifted\nthat weight from me.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

By\nthe same token, when the Lord took me to Heaven and I was ushered into the\nThrone Room, the Spirit of Glory was so powerful that I fell flat on my face. I\nwas unable to get up or stand to my feet for some unknown period of time. Two\nvery large angels picked me up, carried me out and stood me on my feet. Until\nthey did so, I had no strength in myself whatever.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

There\nis another picture of this in II Chronicles.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

II Chronicles 7:1-3<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down\nfrom heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory\nof the LORD filled the house. And the priests could not enter into the house of\nthe LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD\u2019S house. And when\nall the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the\nLORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon\nthe pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying<\/i>,\nFor he is<\/i> good; for his mercy endureth<\/i><\/span> forever.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Here\nis an instance where we see the Spirit of Judgment and Burning manifesting\nHimself with the Spirit of Glory. Notice that the fire came first; and then the\nGlory followed. It is a picture of what is happening in us and in the Body of\nChrist today.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As\nwe\u2019ve already noted, the Spirit of Glory is the last to appear in the list of\nthe Seven Spirits of God. The Spirit of Judgment and Burning is the first named\nin Scripture. Consider the sequence.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

1. The Spirit of\nJudgment and Burning begins the work of cleanup and restoration on those who\nwill respond to the total and complete rulership<\/span> of\nthe Lord in their lives.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

2. The Spirit of\nWisdom and Understanding (Revelation) come next to bring us needed revelation\nof the character, the nature, the makeup and the personality of the Lord Jesus\nChrist as the standard by which we are to be measured.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

3. The Spirit of\nCounsel and Might enters the ongoing processes in our lives to bring counsel,\nguidance and direction, and establish the boundaries of safety for our walk\nwith the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

4. The Spirit of\nKnowledge and the Fear of the Lord commences to create within us that necessary\nawe and reverence of the Lord, and make us Holy and without blemish before God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

5. Now the\nSpirit of Grace and Supplications goes to work in earnest. He\u2019s already been at\nwork in our lives, but our focus now is the Covenant-relationship with have\nwith the Father through the Lord Jesus Christ. Access to our\nCovenant-privileges, rights and responsibilities comes into focus.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

6. Because of\nour contamination by the world around us, the contamination that comes through\nreligion, through the influence of the myriad of voices about us, and through a\nhost of other sources, the Spirit of Truth must establish the baseline in our\nbeings of all that Jesus is. As Jesus noted, He is<\/span> <\/span>\u201cThe Way, The Truth, and the Life.\u201d \u201cNo man cometh unto the\nFather but by me.\u201d<\/span> <\/span>Without the Spirit of Truth making this\na certainty in every cell of our existence, we can be led astray and miss the\ngoal \u2013 the mark that has been set before us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

7. All this\nprocessing must take place in us before the Spirit of Glory can be manifested\nand demonstrated in such a way that the world will sit up and take notice that\nwe not only have been with Jesus \u2013 we ARE in Him, and He IS in us!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nMatthew 22, Jesus is giving the parable of the Wedding Feast and speaking of\nthose who try to come uninvited, or unprepared. He makes the following\nstatement \u2013 and this is perhaps the central purpose for the Spirit of Glory:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Matthew 22:14<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>For many are called, but few are<\/i> chosen.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nSpirit of Glory manifests Himself upon us, in us, and through us to demonstrate\nthat we have not only been called, we\u2019ve been chosen. We\u2019ve been chosen because\nwe have responded to His call at every opportunity, without reserve, without\ndrawing back, without compromise or argument of any kind. We\u2019ve permitted Holy\nSpirit to work the Glory of the Lord in us by ignoring the cost to us\npersonally, the cost to our reputation, the cost to our esteem and the cost to\nour flesh. And...we\u2019ve been commissioned and given a mantle of the Spirit\u2019s\nanointing!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

And we still have more to share on this<\/span> <\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> <\/span>transformation. See you next week.<\/span><\/p>\n
