ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: THE SPIRIT OF JEZEBEL, Part 6<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

September 6, 2013<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Good Morning!! We are witnessing stupendous signs and\nproofs of what God is doing in the earth today as it relates to the\npurification of the Bride of Christ, and the great ingathering of souls into\nthe corporate Ekklesia<\/span>. Over the past couple of weeks\nas the shofar<\/span> has sounded during the conclusion of\nour praise and worship, we have witnessed simultaneous demonstrations of\nenormous claps of thunder in the heavens, followed by and uncountable number of\nlightning strikes, followed by hail appearing on the ground as pieces of glass,\nfollowed by buckets of rain the likes of which we haven't seen since Della and\nI were in Louisiana.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In the first instance, the hail appeared like you would\nnormally expect hail to look like. That same evening the Lord gave me a dream\/vision\nof what we had just experienced, but this time I saw the hail as tiny pieces of\nglass. The Lord spoke to Della and told her that He had shattered the glass\nceiling or dome that the Enemy had surrounded His people with in an effort to\nkeep their prayers from being effective. At the same time, Holy Spirit spoke in\nmy ear and said, "I have opened up the windows of Heaven, and I'm pouring\nout a blessing you can't even begin to contain."<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That same Sunday night we had the experience of the\nthunder, the lightning and the hail, another group of believers being led by\nour friend, Ed Young, along with a group of Amish brethren (**more about this\nmomentarily), were concluding a three-day period of praise, worship,\nintercession and prophetic decrees in an area near Lewiston, Idaho. As they\ncame to the crescendo of their worship, the skies seemed to explode over them.\nThe thunder rocked the building they were in. Lightning began to strike all\naround them and hail fell like glass!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ed called me on Monday morning to share the experience.\nHis comment to me was, "I have NEVER, EVER seen hail looking like pieces\nof flat glass on the ground." I shared with him our experience of the same\nevening and the subsequent dream\/vision with the accompanying Word we had received\nfrom the Lord. If I said that it was an emotion-evoking event, that would\nseriously understate things. You get the picture, I'm sure! We had the visible\nsigns in the heavens of what the Lord was doing and saying to His people.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now, let's get on with today's discussion.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s take a look at some of the characteristics of\nJezebel in Revelation 2 as John unfolds this prophecy \u2013 the characteristics of\nthis spirit \u2013 and how it was contaminating the body of Christ even then, in or\naround 96 AD. We mentioned them in the first Coffee Break in this series.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

1. \u201cShe calleth<\/span> herself a prophetess.\u201d<\/span> Hmmmmm<\/span>.\u2026. OK. False prophet (ess<\/span>)\nand false prophecy.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

2. \u201cto teach and seduce my servants\u2026\u201d<\/span> Right. This\nspirit poses as a seductive teacher, promoting doctrines and teachings that\nlead the people of God astray.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

3. \u201cto commit fornication.\u201d<\/span> This seduction is both spiritual\nand sexual. We\u2019ll get into that in more detail shortly.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

4. \u201cand to eat things sacrificed unto idols<\/span>.\u201d Uhh<\/span> Huhh<\/span>. Idolatry: the worship\nor reverence of things, or individuals, or entities other than the Lord\nHimself: the prioritizing of doctrines over a relationship with the Lord Jesus\nChrist. Just wait. It gets worse.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

5. \u201cI gave her space to repent of her fornication.\u201d<\/span> So Jezebel (or\nthose individuals contaminated with that spirit) are actively committing\nfornication. That doesn\u2019t mean they are necessarily running around, having\npromiscuous sexual relations, although they well may.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

6. \u201cand she repented not.\u201d<\/span> So those afflicted with this\nspirit generally tend to be unrepentant. They have no remorse over their sin,\ncan\u2019t see that what they are doing is sin, and refuse to repent when faced with\nexposure of their sin.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

7. \u201cBehold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit\nadultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.\u201d<\/span> So it\u2019s more\nthan just fornication: it is adultery, too. We\u2019ll get into this more, too, as\nthis discussion proceeds.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

8. \u201cAnd I will kill all her children with death.\u201d<\/span> Strange phrase,\nisn\u2019t it? If one gets killed, they are dead are they not? How do you kill\nsomeone with death? This is an interesting Hebrew metaphor occurring in the\nGreek text. In this case, the Lord is talking about more than physical death:\nHe is talking about an eternal death and separation from all possibility of\nredemption or future relationship with Him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If there is any hallmark of the spirit of Jezebel, or\nsome particular characteristic that sums up and describes its overall purpose,\nit would be \u201cusurper.\u201d The primary objective of the spirit of Jezebel is to\nusurp the operational authority of the Lord Jesus Christ in those who are\nanointed and appointed by the Holy Spirit to minister, to present itself as THE\nvoice of the Lord instead, and to take control of the leadership of God\u2019s\npeople.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

See that word, \u201ccontrol\u201d? It goes with manipulation.\nIt\u2019s called witchcraft. So what is witchcraft, really? Black magic?\nHocus-pocus? Magical incantations? Spells?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Whenever you use the word, witchcraft, people\nautomatically associate it with magic, incantations, casting of spells, etc.\nAnd that, folks, is exactly how Satan wants you to see witchcraft! The Enemy\nwants you to focus on the superstitious aspects of witchcraft, the mythological\nand fantastical images of an old hag stirring a cauldron of some evil brew. He\ndoesn't want you to see witchcraft for what it really is: the deliberate\nmanipulation of people through deception, mis<\/span>-direction,\ncreating suspicion of others and -- more specifically -- creating dissension\namong God's people by promoting false teachings which question just how far our\nrelationship with the Lord stretches.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This is where the first description (She calleth<\/span> herself a prophetess) plays such a major role\nwithin the Body of Christ today. For centuries, God's people have been plagued\nwith folks who've succumbed to this spirit, and I daresay that more men are\ncontaminated with the spirit of Jezebel than women.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let's talk for a minute about the role of the prophet(ess<\/span>). This word is derived from the original Greek, prophetes<\/span>, which is a conjunction of two other words\nmeaning: to proclaim, or to put forth the thoughts or expressions [of\nGod]. The more common interpretation of the Greek term is to describe one who\nspeaks forth under specific inspiration -- one who is a "forth teller."\nThat can describe one who foretells future events (and that is probably the\nmost common perception of a prophet), but is more accurately referring to one\nwho speaks forth under divine inspiration, "telling forth" that which\nHoly Spirit is speaking about or addressing under certain circumstances and in\ncertain situations. Foretelling the future is certainly a part of being a\nprophet.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

All too often, however, the spirit of divination is\nwhat masks itself as the spirit of prophecy. The spirit of divination is the\ndemonic counterpart for the spirit of prophecy. Divination is that which takes\nplace when an individual is "inspired" with thoughts and pictures of\nunfolding events, either by the use of astrology, Ouija boards, palm reading,\nseeing images in a crystal ball and a myriad of other means. The catch is that\nthe spirit of divination often has a particle of accuracy in some facts, enough\nof which leads to deception -- both for the "diviner" and for the\nintended target of the divination.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Again, the spirit of divination will at times utilize\nScripture verses out of context and in the wrong situation in order to lead men\nand women astray. You may ask how that could be possible, or how people could\nfall prey to such deception. The real truth is that when people do not live in\na place of intimacy with the Lord Jesus Christ, when they do not continually\nlive in a place of daily, moment-by-moment communication with the Lord where\nthey hear His voice, they become susceptible to deception.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Once a person hears and KNOWS the voice of God, any\nother voice and any communication which comes out of a wrong spirit simply\nlacks the authority, the peace, the love and the power of God. Many years ago\n(and I've shared this before) when I had my first trip to Heaven and had the\nopportunity to sit down and talk with Abraham, he said to me (in response to a\nquestion), "Once you've heard the voice of God, there is no other\nvoice!" That is absolutely true!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

No matter how much Satan tries to counterfeit the voice\nof God through the spirit of Jezebel, no matter how much effort is made to seem\nlike the authoritative voice of God in what seems like a prophetic word, if\nthat word comes from a spirit of divination, the difference between that voice\nand the voice of God is unmistakable. No demon, no voice of an evil spirit can\nmatch the supreme authority that rests in God's voice. Any voice which speaks\nwithout the peace that passes all understanding -- especially if correction is\nbeing brought -- comes out of a spirit of divination operating through and in\ncooperation with a spirit of Jezebel.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When I hear the Lord speak to me, I don't have to sit\nand try to figure out whether I'm actually hearing Him, or whether I'm being\nled down the primrose path by a lying spirit. The voice of Father God has\nsupreme authority in it, along with agape love, and even in the midst\nof correction and reproof there is a peace that defies explanation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I'd like to take you back into an event that took place\na number of years back which demonstrates how easily one can be deceived and\nenticed by this spirit.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It was 1966. I was in Barrow, Alaska , working with\nDwain McKenzie and sharing with him in ministry. (I've often spoken of Dwain throughout\nthese Coffee Breaks. He and I have known each other and labored together in the\nGospel off and on throughout more than 55 years.) Dwain was the pastor of the\nchurch I had helped my father build a little more than a decade earlier. I was\nthe Youth Pastor. Because this was a missionary endeavor, my livelihood didn\u2019t\ncome from a salary or weekly paycheck from the church. I was working for a\nbranch of Alaska National Bank. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Dwain and his family decided to take a vacation trip to\nCalifornia.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He wanted to spend some time with his dad and mom and\nhelp his folks out with some needs, so he arranged for the Alaska Missions\nDistrict (of the church denomination) to provide an interim missionary during\nhis vacation. The missions\u2019 superintendent picked a likely young couple to fill\nin for Dwain, and they arrived in Barrow in the spring of 1966. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Hervel<\/span><\/span>\nwas the young minister\u2019s name, and his vim and vigor obviously impressed the\nAlaska Missions leaders. This was, to the best of my recollection, Hervel\u2019s<\/span> first real pastorate, and he was gung ho to show\neveryone what a good job he could do. One problem. He had never really\nundergone any period of discipline and preparation for taking on what was at\nthat time one of the denomination\u2019s largest churches in Alaska.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Once in Barrow, and once in the driver\u2019s seat as the\nsenior pastor, Hervel<\/span> decided he didn\u2019t want to let\ngo of the position and the supposed prestige that came with it. He began to\nscheme and connive and try to figure out how he could have Dwain ousted and\nremain on as the permanent senior pastor.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Are you with me so far? Do you see the situation ripe\nfor the spirit of Jezebel? Right.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Hervel<\/span><\/span>\nopened the door wide for that spirit, and it rushed in where angels fear to\ntread. Before you know it, he had filed a formal complaint with the District\nMissions office alleging that Dwain had mismanaged the church\u2019s finances, and\nthat Dwain was misappropriating church funds for his own use.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As it turned out, my position at the bank allowed me to\nsee every single expenditure of the church, as well as Dwain\u2019s personal\naccounts. When I first heard of the allegation, anger rose up in me at Dwain\u2019s\naccuser. However, I decided to hold my peace and personally (and\nsurreptitiously) audit the finances of the church, as well as Dwain\u2019s personal\nfinances from my place at the bank. It wasn\u2019t my place to do it, and my actions\nwere certainly unauthorized by either the church, or the denomination, or the\nbank\u2019s management (at least at first). The bank manager was a personal friend,\nand I explained to him the accusations being made, telling him (after I was\nalready part way through the audit) that I was certain the accusations were\nfraudulent \u2013 that I wanted to either prove or disprove them. He agreed, and we\nwent to work on it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As I had suspected, the accusations were completely\nunfounded. I readied my documentary evidence to present to the District\nSuperintendent, whom I knew would shortly be coming to Barrow to check things\nout. Without letting Hervel<\/span> know that I had evidence\ncontradicting his allegations, I confronted him and asked him if he would\nkindly show me his proof. He refused, telling me it was none of my business and\nsaying that he was taking it up with the church board. Not being a member of\nthe church board, I had no standing and no way to compel them to allow me into\nthe board meetings in Dwain\u2019s defense.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I bided my time until the District Superintendent came\nto Barrow. When I had my first chance to speak with him privately, I told him\nthat the accusations against Dwain were completely spurious, and that I could\nproduce documentary proof that the church finances had been handled in a\ncompletely above-board manner, and that I could account for every supposed mis<\/span>-spent dime. To my astonishment, he refused to hear me.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The District Superintendent was easily twice my age if\nnot close to three-times. I had known him since I was a young whippersnapper,\nand his refusal to hear any evidence from me in Dwain\u2019s support was both\nbaffling and angering. My frustration overflowed in that moment, and I let him\nknow that Hervel<\/span> was deliberately conspiring against\nDwain in order to take the church away. My language was unequivocal. Hervel<\/span> was a crook, he was a cheat and a liar, and there\nwas no integrity in him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The DS shushed me up and told me \u201csimmer down,\u201d that he\nwould look into things and deal accordingly. I didn\u2019t think there was any\nreason not to believe him, and I let it go. He still refused my offer to\nprovide him with the documentary evidence, however.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It wasn\u2019t more than a couple of days later when I\nreceived a phone call from the bank president asking me if I would like to\ntrain to take the management of the Kotzebue branch. He said I would have to\nmove to Nome and train at the branch there. It was an enticing offer. I was not\na happy camper working with a pastor whose greed and connivance to take control\nof a church through political maneuvering made me want to throw up. As far as I\nwas concerned, this man had no concern whatever for the Gospel, nor for the\nthings of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was simply a self-serving political\noperative using the Gospel for personal gain. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

While I was still mulling over the offer to come to\nNome and train for the management of the Kotzebue branch of the bank, I received\na phone call from Paul Bills who was pastoring<\/span> the\nchurch in Nome my father had built and pioneered. Paul, of course, had been a\nfriend of our family for many years. He had filled in for Dad when we had taken\na family vacation, and in fact, took over the church in Barrow when we moved on\nto build churches in Wainwright and Point Hope, preceding Dwain as Barrow\u2019s\npastor. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m told that the bank has made you an offer to come\nto Nome. I\u2019m calling you to see if I can talk you into taking the position. I\nneed your help here in the church in Nome.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Wow! That was the clincher. I called the bank president\nback and told him I would take the position. But first I talked to the DS again\nto make sure he was going to get to the bottom of the issue in Barrow before I\nagreed to leave. He assured me that no decisions would be made without Dwain\nhaving the opportunity to defend himself.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It didn\u2019t dawn on me that I had been royally set up. My\nmove to<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Nome was orchestrated by folks with a whole lot more\npolitical pull than I imagined, and the objective was to get me out of the way\nso I wouldn\u2019t prevent Dwain from being politically assassinated. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As soon as I was gone from Barrow, a fake trial was\nheld before the church board. Dwain was found guilty in absentia. He never had\nan opportunity to present evidence that would have cleared him. He was\ncontacted while in<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

California and advised to get back to Barrow to pack up\nhis personal belongings, and told that he was through as a pastor in Alaska .<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Next\nweek, I\u2019ll share with you the end of the story to show you how the Lord\nvindicated Dwain, and how both the DS and Hervel<\/span>\nsuffered Jezebel\u2019s fate.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As\nwe wrap up today's Coffee Break, following is an excerpt of a recent prophetic\nword delivered by Dutch Sheets, a brother with a profound accuracy in his\nprophetic utterances, and one whom I first met and came to deeply appreciate a\ngood 30 years ago. This word is relevant to what I've been sharing on the\nspirit of Jezebel.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

"Opposition, both from the Church and the world, will\nincrease as we break out of normal. Religious spirits will insist on\nmaintaining old structures and systems, and the kingdom of darkness will react\naggressively to the spirit of revival. Don't be alarmed at this. Stay the\ncourse and resist the demonic pressure!"<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
