ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: APHIEMI HEALING, Part 4<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

November\n15, 2013<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Greetings!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Some years back, Della and I were at Saint Paul Island, Alaska\nhelping my parents. Dad's health was failing and he needed to get off the\nisland for some medical attention, so we put aside our personal affairs for\nabout a year to help prepare for the winter ahead.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Della had taken the opportunity to enroll in some extension\ncourses being offered by the University of Alaska while there and headed out\nthe door one night for her computer class. Less than a hundred feet from\nthe front door, she was stricken with a severe attack on her kidneys. The\ndoctor had already told her that her kidneys were failing and that she should\nexpect major surgery in the months or years ahead. The potential for a\nkidney transplant loomed in the background.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

She managed to make it back to the house to tell me what she was\nfighting and then passed out from the excruciating pain. I picked her up\nand carried her across the way to the church building where we had our\nbedroom. Laying her on the bed, I knelt down, placed my hand on her\nabdomen and began praying in tongues with a great deal of volume (!) and\ncontinued on for some 30 minutes nonstop.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

She awoke and sat up on the bed, tested things rather gingerly\nand realized that she was totally pain-free. The evidence of the miracle\nthat had taken place, however, took place over a period of weeks and months as\nwe both realized that the Lord had healed her completely of all kidney\nissues. That took place some 25 years ago, and to this day, Della has been\ncompletely free of kidney problems and all related pain. She was delivered\nfrom what had been years of kidney issues and recurring pain.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

My sharing of this event is simply to make you aware that\nsometimes it is that kind of persistence which is required to bring about the\nmiracle(s) of healing we need.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Once\nagain we pick up with our discussion from Mark 9:41-50 from the Amplified\nVersion:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

"For I tell you\ntruly, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to and<\/i> bear\nthe name of Christ will by no means fail to get his reward.<\/span> <\/span>And\nwhoever causes one of these little ones (these believers) who acknowledge and<\/i> cleave\nto Me to stumble and<\/i> sin, it would be better (more profitable\nand wholesome) for him if a [huge] millstone were hung about his neck, and he\nwere thrown into the sea.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

"<\/span>And if\nyour hand puts a stumbling block before you and<\/i> causes you to\nsin, cut it off! It is more profitable and<\/i> wholesome for\nyou to go into life [that is really worthwhile] maimed than with two hands to\ngo to hell (Gehenna<\/span>), into the fire that cannot be\nput out.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

"<\/span>And if\nyour foot is a cause of stumbling and<\/i> sin to you, cut it off!\nIt is more profitable and<\/i> wholesome for you to enter into life\n[that is really worthwhile] crippled than, having two feet, to be cast into\nhell (Gehenna<\/span>).<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

"And if your eye\ncauses you to stumble and<\/i> sin, pluck it out! It is more\nprofitable and<\/i> wholesome for you to enter the kingdom of God\nwith one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell (Gehenna<\/span>),<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"<\/span>Where\ntheir worm [which preys on the inhabitants and is a symbol of the wounds\ninflicted on the man himself by his sins] does not die, and the fire is not put\nout.<\/span> <\/span>For\neveryone shall be salted with fire.<\/span> <\/span>Salt is good (beneficial), but if salt has lost its saltness<\/span>, how will you restore [the saltness<\/span>\nto] it? Have salt within yourselves, and be at peace and<\/i> live\nin harmony with one another."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

We're\nfocusing today on verse 47 -- the picture of one's eye causing them to\nstumble. We will get back to the subject of the foot and tie things\ntogether as we proceed in this discussion.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

At\nfirst glance it almost seems obvious when we talk about one's eye causing them\nto stumble. It takes no rocket science to realize that many folks are\nbrought down by allowing their flesh the tantalizing (?) fantasies of looking\nat pornography or watching X-rated flicks. It rouses the flesh, stirs the\nemotions and causes men and women to get lost in erotic fantasies that destroy\ntheir marriages, their families, their jobs and any real\nrelationships. Worse, the focus of attention on these images ruins one's\nability to listen to the voice of Holy Spirit. It becomes an addiction\nthat warps one's capacity to relate in a marriage in a healthy, productive and\nsatisfying manner.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\nFear of Death takes over and the sudden need to reproduce oneself in order to\n"perpetuate the species" rules the mind and spirit. It\nmonopolizes one's mind and -- depending on how far the addiction has progressed\n-- transforms a person's character into exactly what Solomon describes in\nProverbs 23:7.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"As [a man] thinketh<\/span> in his\nheart, so is he."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\nHebrew text really opens this verse up. <\/span>"As\na man (or woman) opens up the gate of his(her) mind and soul [by what is\nfocused upon], so is he conformed [to that image]."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Let's\nget away from the more obvious topic of pornography and get to the heart of\nwhat Jesus is warning. Consider what happened to Eve in the Garden and the\nsequence of events that  followed.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

"And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely\ndie: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes\nshall be opened<\/u>, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and\nevil. And when the woman saw<\/u> that the tree was<\/i> good\nfor food, and that it was<\/i> pleasant to the eyes<\/u>,\nand a tree to be desired to make one<\/i> wise, she took of the\nfruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did\neat. And the eyes of them both were opened<\/u>, and they knew that\nthey were<\/i> naked."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

We\nbegin with Satan's lie: "In the day you eat, your eyes of your\nsoul will be opened and you'll be able to see just like God sees and be on par\nwith Him."<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Get\nit? The beginning place of all temptation was with what the eyes focused\nupon.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Next,\nwe are told that Eve did exactly that and focused her attention on the Tree of\nthe Knowledge of Good and Evil. She SAW that the tree was producing\ntantalizingly-appearing, luscious fruit. The Hebrew text uses the\nword, ta'avah<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,\nwhich our KJV translates as "pleasant." In fact, this word\ndraws a picture of lust, a longing for, something that greedily sucks a\nperson into<\/u>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Once\nEve's attention was focused on this attraction, she got sucked into\nit. She grabbed (the Hebrew, laqach<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>, in this instance could be\ntranslated, "seized") that fruit and did exactly what God had\ncommanded her NOT to do! She ate of it.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

[Let\nme break away from this narrative for just a minute to share something that I\nsaw in person when the Angel of the Lord transported me in the Spirit into the\nGarden some years back to watch the temptation unfold. Adam had not been\nprivy to the conversation taking place between the Serpent and Eve, but he\nwalked in on the conversation just as Eve was eating of the fruit. The\nhorror on his face spoke volumes!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\nthought of his suddenly losing Eve to the Serpent because of her sin was\nintolerable. It was unthinkable! Forgetting who he was and what he\nwas (as having been created in the image and likeness of The Elohim<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b>), he\nallowed the sight of Eve's action and her subsequent offering of the fruit to\nhim to blind his spiritual eyesight. Adam did the rational thing\n(rational, you understand, from a human emotional perspective): he took the\noffered fruit and ate of it, too.]<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

On\na natural, thinking, human level, Adam's thought processes were\nredemptive. The Serpent wasn't going to get to have Eve!<\/i> On a\nspiritual level, they were reactive and out of keeping with the redemptive\nability he had, spiritually speaking, as Eve's husband. The consequences\nof his and Eve's actions were deadly, not only to them, but to the human race\nas their descendants.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\nunredeemed, flesh-seeing eye -- as Jesus so perfectly described it -- causes\nmen and women to rationalize, to think with their emotions or their natural\ndesires. It causes folks to "think things out" instead of\nlistening to and responding obediently to the Word of the Lord. The eye\nthen becomes that catalyst for disobedience and offense -- both to the Lord and\nto others around us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Watch\nthe sequence that unfolds.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

1.<\/span><\/b> What\na person sees, he focuses on and begins to think about.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

2.<\/span><\/b> The\nmore he thinks about a course of action, the more likely he is to engage in\nbusiness activities and relationships that are contrary to what Holy Spirit\ndictates. Thus, the eye causes the hand to become the means by which\npeople stumble, cause others to stumble and place stones of stumbling before\nothers.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

3.<\/span><\/b> What\nthe person sees and thinks about becomes integrated into his character and\nmakeup. With that flaw (or flaws) in thinking, choices are made as to what\npath or course of action to take. The eye therefore becomes the means by\nwhich our foot causes us to stumble. We head down a path of danger,\npotential destruction and ultimate death -- and in the process, take others\nwith us. We not only become an offense to the Lord and to those around us,\nwe cause others to likewise offend.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Consider\nthe sequence that unfolded as a result of Adam and Eve's sin.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

For\na couple of thousand years, they had lived, walked and talked with God, enjoyed\nthe fruits of the Garden environment. Never had there been any suggestion\nthat they were unclothed. (This is a discussion I'd like to take farther,\nbut I won't take the time in this series.) Fact is, Adam and Eve never\nneeded clothing -- at least not the kind of clothing we wear in today's\nworld. They were clothed in the Glory of the Lord. That Glory ruled\ntheir perceptions of one another. They simply didn't see each other as\n"naked." And they weren't!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

What\nhappened once they began to eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and\nEvil? Now their perceptions were based on what the natural eye could see,\nand that "seeing" was predicated in humanly-acquired\nknowledge. It wasn't "good" that they didn't have clothes on.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

So\nhow come they suddenly needed clothes? The Glory of the Lord had been\nstripped away from them. They WERE naked. They were lacking in the\nessential ingredient that had clothed them for the past two thousand years in\nthe Garden. They no longer had the ability to see one another after the\nSpirit. Now they could only see after the eyes of flesh.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\nthree families of fear were immediately introduced into their beings. They\nhad, after all, opened the gate into their minds, their souls and their\nbodies. The knowledge of Evil opened the gateway to the granddaddy of all\nevil spirits: Fear of Evil.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The\nentry of the Fear of Evil into their beings brought with it the Fear of\nMan. Witness the "blame game" that followed as soon as they were\nchallenged by God as to their disobedience."The woman whom THOU gavest<\/span> me, SHE gave me of the tree and I did eat!"<\/i><\/b> Riiiiggghhhhttt<\/span>!!! Well, OK! "And the\nwoman said, THE SERPENT beguiled me -- he tricked me into eating!"<\/i><\/b> Yup! We've\nall heard the same routine.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

But\nwait! There's more. What was it that God had warned Adam and Eve\nabout? Oh, yeah....<\/span>"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt<\/span> not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest<\/span> thereof thou shalt<\/span> surely\ndie<\/u>."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Yessirree<\/span><\/span>!!! Adam and Eve\nhad never been designed to die. They were, after all, created in the image\nand likeness of God, and He IS -- past, present and future. In Him is\neternity. In Him is the eternity of the eternities! For the first\ntime in their existence, cells began to die. Sickness was introduced into\nthe human frame. A terminus to their existence suddenly loomed in their\nminds, their thoughts and their spirits. And the Fear of Death became a\ncompromising entity in their beings.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

See\nhow the eye caused Adam and Eve to stumble? See how it brought an offense\nto them? See what it did to all their descendants?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Here's\nwhat Jesus had to say about it: <\/span>"<\/span>Where their worm [which preys on the inhabitants and is a symbol\nof the wounds inflicted on the man himself by his sins] does not die, and the\nfire is not put out.<\/span>"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Ahhh<\/span><\/span>, but here's\nwhere aphi\u00e9mi<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> kicks\nin for those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh (the seeing\nof things with the natural eye, the conducting of business after the manner and\nmindset of the Beast, or the walking in paths of destruction), but after the\nSpirit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Is\nthis picture from Mark 9 becoming more and more clear to you? Great!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Next\nweek I'll try to bring all of this together to show you the picture of aphi\u00e9mi<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>,<\/span><\/i><\/b> and how we have redemption and\nhealing available as a result of the new Covenant.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
