ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: APHIEMI HEALING, Part 9<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/p>\n\n

Since this will be the last Coffee Break prior to Christmas, let\nme first wish you all a very blessed and revelatory Christmas season. In an\nemail sent out earlier this week to some friends, I noted that we do not\ncelebrate Jesus' birth on Christmas day, despite the centuries-old traditions.\nWe celebrate Christmas because this was the day on the Hebrew calendar when the\nangel Gabriel appeared to Mary. This is the day when the Word became flesh and\nMary spoke those fateful and faith-filled words, "Be it unto me according\nto Thy Word."<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

When\nwe left off last week, we were talking about the fact that when Jesus broke\nbread with His disciples, he first breaks matstsah<\/span><\/i><\/span> <\/b>(flat, unleavened)\nbread, showing Himself to be the Passover Lamb. Jesus\nagain takes bread, and as He did when feeding the 5000 (and the 4000), he\nbreaks it and begins to serve the disciples. (See verse 26.)<\/span><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

The Greek word in this instance is not <\/span>azumos<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span> (or matstsah<\/span>),<\/span><\/i><\/b> but <\/span>artos<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>:<\/span><\/b> raised\nbread. These two Greek words exactly parallel the two Hebrew words which\ndescribe both the unleavened bread (<\/span>matstsah<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>) of\nPassover, and the raised bread that was on display on the Table of Shewbread<\/span> (<\/span>lechem<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>). Jesus\nbecame the bread of Passover, fulfilling its purpose, and<\/i> the\nbread of provision -- the Table of Shewbread<\/span> -- that\nHe promised in Matthew 6:33 and Philippians 4:19.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I know that many folks have questioned the idea that Jesus would\nhave broken leavened bread with the Disciples, but there seems to be a\nfundamental  misunderstanding of the picture of leaven. Leaven can either\nbe good (as it was in representing the wholeness of Jesus, His makeup, His\ncharacter, and the essence of who He is), or it can be representative of sin\nand corruption (as it was in the case of the Pharisees and Sadducees). Leaven\nis simply a picture of something which expands and grows the loaf.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Jesus made the statement to the Disciples (see Matthew\n16:6), <\/span>"Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of\nthe Sadducees."<\/span> That's one example.  But He also said (in Matthew\n13:33), <\/span>"The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman\ntook, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was\nleavened." <\/span>In this instance, leaven represents the expanding power of the\nKingdom of God."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Is that clear enough? Good! Let's move on.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Jesus'\nstatement caused such great consternation among the people who heard him. They\nonly saw his comments within the framework of the Law of Moses, or from a\npurely physical standpoint, and because they treated His Word that way they\nwere repulsed by them.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a\nman may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread which came down from\nheaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that\nI will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the\nworld...... Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of\nthe Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you<\/u>. Whoso eateth<\/span> my flesh, and drinketh<\/span> my\nblood, hath eternal life<\/u>; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my\nflesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth<\/span>\nmy flesh, and drinketh<\/span> my blood, dwelleth<\/span>\nin me, and I in him. As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the\nFather: so he that eateth<\/span> me, even he shall live by\nme. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat\nmanna, and are dead: he that eateth<\/span> of this bread\nshall live forever."<\/span> (John 6:50-51, 53-58)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then\nwe have John's observation of Jesus:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us<\/u>,\n(and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)\nfull of grace and truth."<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>(John\n1:14)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ever\nwonder how "the Word was made flesh" as John declares? Consider the\npicture that unfolds in Luke 1:26-38. The angel Gabriel appears to Mary and\ntells her that she is blessed and highly favored of God, and that she will\nconceive and bear a son who in fact will be the long-promised and prophesied\nMessiah. Mary does not doubt the word that she is hearing but asks, <\/span>"How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?"<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>The angel Gabriel responds, <\/span>"The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the\nHighest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be\nborn of thee shall be called the Son of God."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Bear\nin mind that the angel is simply a messenger of God sent with God's Word to\nher. Here is how -- and when -- the Word is made flesh. <\/span>"And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be\nit unto me according to thy word.<\/u>"<\/span> (Luke 1:38)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Get\nit? Mary agrees with the Word of the Lord and speaks that agreement by saying\n"Be it unto me according to thy Word:" the Word of the Lord. She is\neffectively speaking the same creative Word that God spoke when He decreed in\nGenesis 1:3, <\/span>"Light be"<\/span> (or as the KJV reads, <\/span>"Let there be light!"<\/span>) Thus the Word came into being\ninstantly within her womb. Sure, she had to carry Jesus for the normal\nnine-month term before He was actually born but He was instantly conceived when\nshe spoke the Word herself.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Are\nyou beginning to get the picture? The Word, spoken by Mary in agreement with\nthe Word of the Lord which had been delivered to her, became flesh in her womb.\nIt was living. It was eternity, invading time and space with the reality of God\nHimself! Thus, the Word -- Jesus -- became flesh. And John witnesses, <\/span>"and dwelt among us (and we beheld His Glory, the Glory as\nof the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nwalked and talked with His disciples. He preached to the multitudes. He broke\nbread with them, and He did it in a manner that would testify to them (and they\nwould also be witness to) that He was the Word!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nthe event that had unfolded (see John 6) just prior to Jesus' statement <\/span>"Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood,\nye have no life in you."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee,\nwhich is the sea of Tiberias<\/span>. And a great multitude\nfollowed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were\ndiseased. And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his\ndisciples. And the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh."<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>(This is an important point in view of\nwhat Jesus is about to do.)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great\ncompany come unto him, he saith<\/span> unto Philip, Whence\nshall we buy bread, that these may eat? And this he said to prove him: for he\nhimself knew what he would do. Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of\nbread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>(Note: this is roughly equivalent to\nseven months' wages in those days) <\/i><\/b><\/span>One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter\u2019s brother, saith<\/span> unto him, There is a lad  here, which hath five\nbarley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? And Jesus\nsaid, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men\nsat down, in number about five thousand."<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>(Note: By Hebrew tradition this number\nrepresents the married men only, not counting the unmarried men, all the wives,\nthe women and children. The actual number of those gathered on the hillsides\nwould have been more on the order of 20,000 - 30,000.)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks,\nhe distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down;\nand likewise of the fishes as much as they would. When they were filled, he\nsaid unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be\nlost. Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the\nfragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them\nthat had eaten. Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did,\nsaid, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Before\nwe continue with the rest of this picture, let's consider some of the issues\nthat have already been presented.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

First,\nJohn makes note of the fact that the Passover was "eggus<\/span>":<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span>"ready\nto begin, at hand<\/u>."<\/span><\/b> Folks were ready for the seven\nday period in which they would eat of the unleavened bread. They would break\nthis bread and eat of it only -- no leavened bread at all. (Both Orthodox and\nMessianic Jews keep this ordinance yet today. They often refer to it as a\n"Seder" meal.) With the Passover meal, they would drink water -- not\nwine. The practice of wine with the Table of the Lord did not really commence\nuntil after Jesus turned the water into wine at the marriage of Cana in\nGalilee, although we see this covenant practice long before the days of Moses.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\npoint I'm making is that the Jews were ready to begin Passover with its\nunleavened flatbread (matstsah<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>)\n-- symbolic of the fact that there was no leaven of Egypt in what they were\neating. In a parable that Jesus later shared, (and we've already noted this) He\nlikened the Kingdom of God to leaven and said, <\/span>"The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman\ntook, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened."<\/span> <\/span>(Matthew\n13:33) In so doing, Jesus was clarifying the fact that the picture of leaven is\nthat of a spiritual force -- whether for evil or for good.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nthe miracle that unfolded in John 6 where Jesus fed the 5,000, as noted in the\nlast Coffee Break, the loaves that Jesus broke and distributed were artos<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>:<\/span><\/i><\/b> raised\nbread, whole bread -- leavened bread. There was an impartation of His life that\ntook place which He was demonstrating. There is a multiplying factor in His\nlife; it is the leaven of the Kingdom of God which multiplies and causes the\nWord to grow and expand within us until we reach the place of being fully\n"raised" in Him.<\/span><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thus as the miracle of the loaves unfolded, Jesus was\ndemonstrating what He would say to the people shortly thereafter, <\/span>\u201cI am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man\neat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my\nflesh, which I will give for the life of the world."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

On\nmany occasions, Jesus made statements such as the following:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the\nFather: so he that eateth<\/span> me, even he shall live by\nme."<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>(John 6:57)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in\nme, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth<\/span>\nand believeth in me shall never die. Believest<\/span> thou\nthis?"<\/span> (John\n11:25-26)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto\nthe Father, but by me."<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>(John 14:6)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nhis first general epistle, John writes, <\/span>"For\nthe life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto\nyou that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto\nus."<\/span> <\/span>(I John 1:2)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nTable of the Lord -- which took the place of Passover -- provides us with a\ndaily (or as often as we eat and drink of it) impartation of the life, the\nmultiplication that comes in that divine life, and we receive for ourselves\nhealing, health, wholeness, forgiveness and deliverance from, and eradication\nof, the bondage and oppression of the past (that's aphi\u00e9mi<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>), and the abundant\nprovision of all that Heaven has for us. Consider the event that took place\nwhen the Syrophenician<\/span> woman came to Jesus.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same\ncoasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of\nDavid; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a\nword. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth<\/span> after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent\nbut unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped\nhim, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto\nthe lost sheep of the house of Israel. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs\neat of the crumbs which fall from their masters\u2019 table. Then Jesus answered and\nsaid unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt.\nAnd her daughter was made whole from that very hour."<\/span> <\/span><\/i><\/b>(Matthew 15:21-28)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

See\nthe picture? Are you understanding just how powerful the bread of life really\nis? This woman was not even of the house of Israel. Yet she understood the\nsignificance of the Table of the Lord. She understood the picture of the Bread\nof Life, and she realized that just a dried-out crumb of that bread that had\nfallen under the Table would bring healing and deliverance to her daughter.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Brother!\nI sometimes marvel that the body of Christ -- who is supposed to have a grip on\nwhat it means to be seated at the Table of the Lord -- has yet to understand\nwhat it means to eat of the Bread of Life. David certainly had the picture.\nRemember the 23rd Psalm?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"Thou preparest<\/span> a table before me\nin the presence of mine enemies."<\/span> <\/span>Who is preparing this\ntable? Hello!?! The Lord Jesus Christ, of course. And what are the enemies in\nwhose presence this Table is spread? Hmmmm<\/span> ........\nLet's see, now ....... Sickness, disease, infirmity, death, poverty, bondage of\nevery kind, demonic oppression, fear, doubt, unbelief ..... shall we go on?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Yet,\nfor the most part, the body of Christ today still treats the Table of the Lord\nas anaxios<\/i><\/b><\/span>:<\/i><\/b> to\ntreat irreverently, to treat as commonplace and ordinary.  There is\nnothing, and I do mean NOTHING about the Table of the Lord that is commonplace\nor ordinary. This is not a ritual. This is not some duty to keep. The Table of\nthe Lord is a way of life, a manner of living. Eating of the Table of the Lord\ntakes a person out of this time-space, sin-and-sickness-based, death-imposed\nrealm and transports them into the eternity of eternities -- the Kingdom of\nGod!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nwe eat of the Bread of Life, we are eating of the Word Himself. But we have to\ndo it with revelation and understanding. Otherwise it becomes just another\n"thing to do" as a Christian. Personally, I dislike -- no, I'll make\nit even stronger than that -- I detest the form and ritual that has turned our\nsacred Communion at the Table of the Lord into crackers or wafers and dinky\nlittle "communion cups" (so that folks don't transmit or catch some\ndisease by drinking from a common cup).<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nDwain and I were still at Long Beach Christian Center back in the 1970's, we\nstopped the "crackers-and-grape juice-in-communion cups" ritual and\nwent to breaking a whole loaf of bread and drinking from a common cup or\nchalice. It began the transformation of my understanding of what it means to\npartake of the Lord's Table. That was some 40 years ago, and you couldn't pay\nme to go back to the old ritual! I've yet to see someone "catch\nsomething" by drinking of a common cup at the Table of the Lord. It just\ndoesn't happen! That would make the Table of the Lord a lie -- and there is\nnothing but truth that emanates and is imparted when we eat and drink with\nrevelation!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Wheww<\/span><\/span>!!! We've just begun\nto scratch the surface. There's a whole lot more to go just dealing with the\ncovenant picture of the Table. Let me wrap up with this observation:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The Lord has set a table before us that is fit for kings and\npriests -- and we are both in Him! We have a feast set before us designed to\nhelp us function as kings who rule and reign, and priests who worship and come\nbefore God's presence in boldness and joy. Health, wholeness, strength,\nhealing, restoration, deliverance, prosperity -- they are all set before us on\nthis Table!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
