ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: ISRAEL & THE PSALM 83 PROPHECY, Part One<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Howdy! Glad you\n joined me today!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\u2019ll\nkeep these comments short because we need to get right into today\u2019s discussion.\nThere are a large number of folks who\u2019ve responded to this series of Coffee\nBreaks on Israel \u2013 both positively and negatively. A common thread appearing in\nthe negative responses is predicated in a horrendous doctrine that began to\nspread throughout the \u201cstructured church\u201d during the Dark Ages. There are two\nparts of this doctrine.<\/span><\/p>\n


\n <\/span>The first part of it\n alleges that the Jews crucified Jesus. That is scripturally inaccurate. Revelation\n 13:8 clearly states that Jesus was \u201cthe Lamb slain before the foundation of the\n earth.\u201dHe chose, of His own will, in agreement with Father and Holy Spirit, to\n go to the Cross even BEFORE Adam and Eve were created. Adam\u2019s fall was no\n surprise to the Lord God. He knew it was going to happen before He breathed His\n first breath into him, and they [the Godhead] made preparation to redeem the\n human race. There was an appointed time in history (His Story] for that to take\n place.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>Secondly, although\nthe religious Jews were part of the scenario which led to Jesus\u2019 crucifixion,\nthey were pawns in an agenda created by Satan long before Jesus was born. The\ntruth is that it was a religious spirit which crucified Jesus on the Cross. Sure,\nit was operating in the religious Jews, but it was also operating in Rome as\nwell. To blame the Jews for Jesus\u2019 death on the Cross is a deliberate\ndistortion of history, and a deliberate twisting of the spiritual forces that\nwere at work. One of these days I\u2019ll do a series of Coffee Breaks on the Nephilim<\/span> Agenda \u2013 a Satanic agenda that was at work to\ndestroy the promised Redeemer as far back as the days of Noah.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>The driving force\nbehind this demonic doctrine is a virulent spirit of Anti-Semitism. The second\npart of the doctrine that says the Jews crucified Jesus also says that because\nthe Jews departed from the Lord God and worshiped false idols, God canceled His\nCovenant with them; therefore, Jesus\u2019 death on the Cross was designed to redeem\n\u201cthe world\u201d and NOT the Jews! Anyone who believes that has become the victim of\nan extremely racist spirit. I won\u2019t take the time today to dig into it, but let\nme just simplify it like this: ALL racism \u2013 whether the prejudice is against\nBlacks, Asians, Indians, Eskimos, Arabs or Jews (or any other racial group) is\npredicated and rooted in Anti-Semitism.<\/span><\/p>\n


\n <\/span>[Note: Anti-Semitism\n and racism of every ilk is \u2013 nothing more and nothing less \u2013 rooted in a spirit\n of hatred against God\u2019s plan for the human race from the day He breathed His\n breath into Adam and initiated the process of creating a family for Himself \u2013 a\n family of beings who would be like Him, function like Him, love like Him, think\n like Him and speak like Him. It targets the Jews or Israel (or any other race\n or culture of people it chooses), blames them for the world\u2019s ills (or\n society\u2019s ills) instead of the true Enemy. It targets people and personalities\n instead of the evil spirits that drive them, creating a special class of people\n to lobby against.]<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>The corollary to this\nAnti-Semitic doctrine that God abandoned the Jews in favor of the Gentiles is\nthe idea that the Gentiles are now \u201cGod\u2019s chosen people\u201d and the Jews have no\nclaim to that status anymore. What a lie! What a perversion of the truth!<\/span>
\n<\/span>I take you back to\nsome quotes from the last Coffee Break \u201c<\/span><\/i><\/span>I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God\nforbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of\nBenjamin.<\/span><\/i> <\/span>God hath not cast away his people which he\nforeknew<\/span><\/i><\/b>.\u201d<\/span><\/i>(Romans 11:1)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He goes on to say the following:<\/span> <\/span>\u201c<\/span><\/i>For I would not,\nbrethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in\nyour own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness<\/span> of the Gentiles be come in<\/u>. And so all\nIsrael shall be saved<\/b>: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion<\/span> the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from\nJacob: For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.<\/span><\/i> <\/span>(Romans\n11:25-26)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Were it not for the Jews, therefore,\nthere would be no salvation for the rest of the world! And Jesus makes that\nabundantly clear in John 4:23.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

OK. Time to move on.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The 83rd<\/sup> Psalm is one of the\nmost unique prophecies in the Word. This was a prayer and a prophecy of Asaph<\/span>. Despite all the attacks that have come against\nIsrael throughout the centuries and millennia, this is one of those wars that\nhave never taken place \u2013 yet! <\/b>Hence, when Asaph<\/span>\nwas praying this prayer, he was seeing ten nations or tribes or peoples who had\nassembled themselves against Israel with one purpose. When you listen to some\nof Ahmadinejad\u2019s<\/span> rants and threats, you\u2019d think he\nactually believes he can beat the Lord God and wipe Israel off the map.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Listen to how Asaph<\/span>\nputs it in his prayer:<\/span> <\/span>\u201cThey have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a\nnation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.For<\/span>\nthey have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against\nthee.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now Asaph<\/span>\nlists the conspirators, and he is very specific as he names 10 nations or\ntribes.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cThe tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites<\/span>;\nof Moab, and the Hagarenes<\/span>; Gebal<\/span>,\nand Ammon<\/span>, and Amalek<\/span>; the\nPhilistines with the inhabitants of Tyre<\/span>; Assur<\/span> also is joined with them: they have holpen<\/span> the children of Lot.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In order to appreciate the significance\nof this, we need to identify each of the nations with their modern-day\ncounterparts.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

1.Edom:This\nis a name given to the descendants of Esau. Their territory was initially\nreferred to as \u201cthe mountains of Seir<\/span>\u201d and extended\nfrom the Gulf of Aqaba to the foot of the Dead Sea and eastward into Jordan and\nArabah<\/span> (modern-day Saudi Arabia).The Greeks referred\nto their rock-hewn city of Sela<\/span> as \u201cPetra\u201d \u2013 the name\nby which we still know it today in what is currently the western part of\nJordan. The Edomites<\/span> became a very scattered and\nnomadic people, eventually making Bozrah<\/span> (modern-day\nBasra in Iraq) their capital until they were taken over and assimilated by the\nChaldeans.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

2.The\nIshmaelites<\/span>: This was a people descended from\nIshmael, the son of Abraham born to the Egyptian handmaid, Hagar. Ishmael, as\nwe know, was sent away with his mother by command of the Lord because he was\nthe \u201cseed of the flesh\u201d and not the \u201cseed of covenant.\u201dThe angel of the Lord\ntold Hagar that Ishmael\u2019s descendants would have \u201ctheir hand against every man,\nand every man\u2019s hand against them.\u201dThey initially settled in Paran<\/span>, a region lying between Canaan and the mountains of\nSinai. This was a people who scattered (as did the Edomites<\/span>)\nacross the wide deserts of northern Arabia from the Red Sea to the Euphrates.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

3.Moab:\nDescended from Moab, the incestuous son of Lot, these people initially occupied\nZoar<\/span>, the region around the Dead Sea left in chaos by\nthe destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, and eventually began to spread over the\nregion east of the Jordan River until their great defeat by David. The last\nhistorical reference to the Moabites as a people places them in what today is\nsouthern Lebanon and southeastern Syria. Chronologically in Scripture, we find Sanballat<\/span> (who was a Moabite [Nehemiah uses the Horite<\/span> description]) doing his best to block the rebuilding\nof Jerusalem.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

4.The\nHagarenes<\/span> (Hagarites<\/span>):\nBrothers to the Ishmaelites<\/span>, we have no record of\ntheir father and they are described as descended from Hagar. History\ndistinguishes between them and the Ishmaelites<\/span>,\nalthough they seemed to occupy much of the same territory as their Ishmaelite\nbrethren. Every scriptural reference to them identifies them as a \u201ctrans-Jordanic<\/span> tribe,\u201d and we see the tribe of Reuben soundly\ndefeating them in battle during the days of King Saul.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

5.Gebal:\nModern day Dschebel<\/span> (25 miles north of Beirut,\nLebanon) is identified with this mountain-seaport. The Greeks referred to Gebal<\/span> as \u201cByblos\u201d; and it was one of Syria\u2019s major\nseaports. There is a separate reference to a Gebal<\/span> in\nthe Apocrypha as being in the northern part of Arabia near Petra, but there\nseems to be little connection between the two. Gebal<\/span>\nwas a \u201ccity-state\u201d much like Monaco is today, and was among the major\ncity-states of Phoenicia (which today is northern Lebanon and south-western\nSyria).<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

6.Ammon:\nModern-day Amman, Jordan is a continuously occupied city for some four-plus\nmillennia, and it gets its name from Ammon<\/span>, the other\nincestuous son of Lot, Abraham\u2019s nephew. That inhabitants of Jordan, much of\nwhom we would know today as \u201cPalestinians\u201d are the descendants of Ammon<\/span> seems pretty clear. Historically, the Ammonites and\nMoabites were the persistent enemies of Israel, continually trying to deprive\nthem of their existence in the land. I remind you of I Chronicles 20 when the\nAmmonites and Moabites, along with remnants of the Amorites, came against\nJehoshaphat and the Lord routed them in such a way that they destroyed one\nanother.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

7.Amalek:\nThese were descendants of Esau \u2013 a warring people who principally occupied the\nSinai between the Dead Sea and the Red Sea. They were a persistent enemy of\nIsrael for whom God decreed ultimate destruction. Agag<\/span>,\nthe Amalekite<\/span> king, tried to bribe Balaam into\ncursing Israel.\u201cAgag<\/span>\u201d seems to be a title given to\neach king of the Amalekites<\/span>, and it was an \u201cAgag<\/span>\u201d whom Samuel was forced to kill when Saul disobeyed\nthe Lord by keeping him alive. Haman, whose conspiracy to destroy Israel in the\ndays of Esther, was an \u201cAgagite<\/span>\u201d \u2013 a descendant of Agag<\/span> in the days of Saul.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

8.The\nPhilistines: There is a rather oblique reference in II Samuel which suggests\nthat they were part of the Rephaim<\/span> \u2013 one of the\ngroups in Scripture identified with the Nephilim<\/span> in\nGenesis 6.In any case they occupied the Gaza, Lebanon and south-western Syria. The\nPalestinian demand to occupy the Gaza today is a very telling picture of this\nenemy of Israel. I only have to remind you of the story of David and Goliath.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

9.The\nInhabitants of Tyre:A<\/span> city-state of its own during\nOld-Testament times, it was originally one of the main port cities of\nPhoenicia. By the time Asaph<\/span> gave his prophecy, Tyre<\/span> was a Syrian stronghold, and it remains as that to\nthis day. Although Abraham was sometimes referred to as a Syrian because he\nlived for 25 years in Haran (modern-day spelling: Harran) before responding to\nthe second call of the Lord, the Syrians have been \u2013 ever since Israel began to\noccupy Canaan \u2013 the enemies of Israel. I Kings 11:25 tells us that Hadad<\/span> (see also I Kings 11:14), the King of Syria, was of\nroyal Edomite<\/span> lineage \u2013 a descendant of Esau, and\nthis explains the ongoing enmity of millennia between Syria and Israel.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

10.<\/span> <\/span>Assur<\/span><\/span> (Asshur<\/span>):\nThis was the capital city of ancient Assyria \u2013 an empire divided by the Medes\nand Persians. Syria of today gets its name from ancient Assyria. Modern-day Asshur<\/span> is in Northern Iraq, however, and its remnant people\nare scattered throughout Syria, Turkey, Iraq and Iran. Because they were close\nneighbors of the Moabites and Ammonites, Asaph<\/span> tells\nus in his prophecy (reading the NASB) that \u201cthey have become a help to the\nchildren of Lot.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\u2019s the general outline of the ten\nnations. Let\u2019s consolidate the picture to modern times. What do we see? Closest\nto Israel, we find (1) the Palestinians in Gaza, (2) Lebanon (under Syria\u2019s\ndomination with Hezbollah), (3) Syria, (4) Jordan, (5) Egypt - (the Sinai Peninsula),\nand (6) Saudi Arabia.A<\/span> little farther out, we have\n(7) Iraq, and (8) Iran.While<\/span> on today\u2019s maps (you can\nGoogle Map the region for a look at it yourself) there are ten nations named,\nthree of the nations are consolidated in present-day Jordan and Syria: Moab, Ammon<\/span> and the \u201cHagarenes<\/span>.\u201dSince\nwe know that the Hagarites<\/span> occupied much of the same\nterritory as the Ishmaelites<\/span>, and we know that the Ishmaelites<\/span> occupied at least a portion of the Sinai, the\nfather of the Hagarites<\/span> (and I\u2019m really speculating\nhere) could have been an Egyptian as Hagar was.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In any case, Israel today is surrounded\nby the very same enemies it faced during Biblical times, despite the fact that\nin some instances we have different names today along with consolidation. In a\nCoffee Break series I did a couple years ago titled Seven Nations, Seven\nLetters<\/u><\/b>, we talked about the fact that ancient Israel failed to keep\nGod\u2019s commandment to them to literally destroy, wipe-out to the last man, woman\nand child, and erase every vestige of the seven nations that occupied Canaan\nprior to the conquest by Joshua.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Additionally, in the days of King Saul,\nIsrael was commanded to obliterate every trace of the Amalekites<\/span>.\nHe did not.As<\/span> a result of their failure, traces of\nthese nations remained throughout the ages. We even find almost one whole\nnation of the original seven still intact as a nation during Jesus\u2019 ministry. The\nGreek New Testament refers to the original Girgashites<\/span>\nas the Gergesenes<\/span> (<\/span>Gergesenos<\/span><\/i><\/span>) when Jesus brings\ndeliverance to the Gadarene<\/span> demoniac.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Although we have no modern reference to\nthe Moabites, Ammonites (except for Amman), Amalekites<\/span>,\nHagarites<\/span>, etc., history is clear that whatever\nremnant of these tribal nations existed after their major destruction at the\nhands of their enemies, that remnant was assimilated into their captor nations.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We couldn\u2019t have a clearer picture of Asaph\u2019s<\/span> prophecy. Here is a perfect description of the same\nenemies that surround Israel today. With the possible exception of King\nAbdullah in Jordan (who as mentioned before has attempted to moderate things\nwith the Palestinian population which comprises more than 70 percent of the\nJordanian people) and Iraq which is endeavoring to get its own act together,\nthe rest of the surrounding nations have adopted a hostile, \u201cget rid of Israel\u201d\nattitude; and Iran\u2019s Ahmajinedad<\/span> has actually declared\nthe very words Asaph<\/span> used calling for Israel\u2019s\nextinction.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I want to get to the meat of the\nprophecy in Psalm 83, but it is clear that we won\u2019t make it there today, so\nlet\u2019s cut this Coffee Break short and we\u2019ll pick things up in a few days.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Before I go, however, an article of\nextreme interest appears on the front page of Israel Today in the June 17th<\/sup>\nedition. The headline reads: ARE MANY PALESTINIANS REALLY JEWS?(see: http:\/\/www.israeltoday.co.il\/tabid\/178\/nid\/22830\/language\/en-US\/Default.aspx<\/span><\/a>)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Here are a few lines from the article:<\/span> <\/span>In the shadow of the\nconflict over the Promised Land more and more Palestinians are disclosing the\ntruth: Entire families are considering conversion to Judaism. They claim that\ntheir ancestors were forced to choose between religion (Judaism) and remaining\non the Land, and hence, they were compelled to convert to Islam. These\nPalestinians are part of the seed of Israel and could be called \u201cPalestinian Marranos<\/span>\u201d - like the \u201csecret Jews\u201d of Spain in the 15th\ncentury who were forced to convert to Christianity, but covertly remained\nobservant Jews. By returning to the Jewish religion and nation, they foresee a\npeaceful resolution of the conflict.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

With the news from this piece, a recent\npoll in the Jerusalem Post makes a lot of sense. Taken on the West Bank the\npolls showed that 57% of the \u201cPalestinians\u201d interviewed would prefer to be a\npart of Israel rather than a Palestinian state. No wonder! When you have people\nwho\u2019ve been forced into accepting Islam or die, and they become assimilated\ninto a culture that is antagonistic towards everything they\u2019ve ever known and\nserve a god who is a false god, there can\u2019t be anything but a yearning for a\nreturn to the life and the worship their ancestors have known.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

OK. There you have it for today.I\u2019ll<\/span> pick up on the Psalm 83 prophecy and its\nsignificance to today in our next Coffee Break. See you then.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As Christians we have a mandate from the Lord to bless Israel. More\nthan that, the cry of the Lord through Isaiah is to \u201cgive Him no rest, till He\nestablish, and till He make Jerusalem a praise in the earth!\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
