ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: HEAVEN IX: Moses & Israel<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

\n <\/span>Good\n Morning!\n <\/o:p>\n<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>Longtime\nfriend and former VP of the Christian Broadcasting Network, Jim Bramlett<\/span>, sent me the following link to some pretty amazing\nfootage out of Egypt. At about 1:19 into the piece shown on MSNBC (see the\npiece on YouTube: http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gWQKOj9Sxkg<\/span><\/a>)\nthere is a very clear image of a pale green rider on a pale green horse\nappearing in the crowd, riding through the crowd and vanishing into thin air. As\nJim aptly comments,<\/span>\n<\/span>\u201cHas the Lord actually allowed us to\nsee the horse and rider of Revelation 6:8, in Cairo? The word "pale"\nin that above verse is the Greek word chloros<\/i><\/span>\n(<\/i>Greek # 5515), which means green<\/span><\/b>.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>The\ntiming of this is absolutely fascinating since Della and I have been discussing\nthis pale rider in Revelation 6 during the past couple of weeks with Mary Ellen\nOlnick<\/span> \u2013 our close friend and sister in Red Deer, Alberta.\nThere is another fascinating prophetic word which seems to be unfolding as we\nspeak \u2013 and it is one you don\u2019t hear much about among so-called \u201cend-time\u201d\npreachers \u2013 and it is extremely relevant to this day and hour. That is the\nten-nation confederacy and conspiracy against Israel revealed by Asaph<\/span> in Psalm 83.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>When\nyou understand the modern-day significance of each of the nations or tribes\nmentioned in verses 6 \u2013 8, you literally have a picture of the nations or\nIslamic peoples that fill the Middle East, including (but not limited to)\nSyria, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey, Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. I will try\nto do a specific Coffee Break on this prophecy in Psalm 83 in the days to come.\nThe events revealed in this Psalm bear watching at this critical juncture in\nhistory.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>In\nmy entire lifetime, I\u2019ve met one \u2013 perhaps two \u2013 people who\u2019ve had similar\nexperiences to mine of being in Heaven and having conversations with people\nthere \u2013 especially Biblical characters. I\u2019ve met or heard of many people\nthroughout the years who\u2019ve been to Heaven, but the experiences that the Lord\ngave to me seem to be fairly unique \u2013 so much so that there are folks who\nquestion the validity of the things I\u2019m sharing. Nevertheless, my parents, my\nbrother, an evangelist by the name of Homer Rugwell<\/span>\nand a missionary sister named Harriet Brown were all present in our home the\nmorning after this event and heard me share these experiences.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>As\nalready noted, this is the first time in my life I\u2019ve ever put down on paper\nthe details of my experiences \u2013 many of which are as fresh today as they were\nall those years ago. Throughout the years, I\u2019ve shared bits and pieces with\nsome folks \u2013 some of the conversations with Abraham, or David, or perhaps one\nof the prophets or the apostles, but never the complete experience.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>Obviously\nmy objective here is to encourage and to lift up brothers and sisters in the\nLord. If there could be said to be a central theme to my encounters and\nconversations in Heaven, that theme would be the importance of hearing and\nresponding to the heart\u2019s desire of the Lord Jesus Christ. We have an\nassignment and a commission from the Lord as believers everywhere. That\ncommission is to see the Kingdom of God rule and reign over the entire earth.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>Our\nassignment is to see that Jesus Christ receives His full inheritance in us. We\u2019ve\nbeen redeemed from the curse by the Lord so that He could have the family He\nstarted out to receive in the first place. Father sent Him here so the covenant\nfirst established through Adam could be restored. Jesus paid for it, folks, and\nHe deserves to get what He paid for!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>My\nexperiences in Heaven cumulatively gave me a revelation of Jesus Christ in a\ndimension that has grown throughout the years. Every conversation, every\nencounter, every experience enlarged my understanding of the Lord Jesus, His\nplan and purposes, Who He is in us, and who we are in Him. In the years that\nhave passed since these trips took place there has been increasing revelation\nof the whole purpose of creation and seeing the intent of the Lord to have for\nHimself a family of beings who are just like Him with His likeness and image.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>Thus\nfar we talked about Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David \u2013 and now Moses. I will try to\nfinish my conversations with Moses in today\u2019s sharing.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>My\nconversation with Moses now turned to Israel and his experiences in leading\nthem in the wilderness. I won\u2019t try to cover every detail because it would make\nthis discussion overly long, so let me just cover two or perhaps three major\npoints of my conversation.<\/span>
\n<\/span>I\nwas, of course, very interested in the ten plagues that God brought upon Egypt\nwhen Pharaoh rebelled against the Word of the Lord; and I was likewise\ninterested in the parting of the Red Sea. We had some discussion on those, but\nthe three major things I want to focus on in this Coffee Break are (1) the\nreturn and reports of the spies when they were sent into the Promised Land; (2)\nMoses\u2019 own disobedience to the Lord when he struck the rock instead of speaking\nto it; and (3) his personal reaction at seeing the Promised Land from Mount\nPisgah, and not being able to enter.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>Our\ndiscussions now turned to the period of time not long after Israel had left
\nEgypt. They were encamped near Kadesh<\/span> (their first\nencampment there) in the wilderness of Paran<\/span>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cYou\nsent the twelve spies to have a look at the Land of Promise,\u201d I said to\nMoses.\u201cWhen they returned after almost six weeks, they were bearing a gigantic\ncluster of grapes on a staff between two of the men. They all talked positively\nabout the land as being a \u2018land of milk and honey\u2019 and showed some of the fruit\nof the land including pomegranates and figs. Yet ten of the spies were warning\nagainst going into the land because of the presence of strong, walled cities\nwith giants. In fact, their statement was one filled with fear and trembling\nsaying that they were grasshoppers compared to the giants, and that there was\nno way they could take the land.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>Moses\u2019\nface became stern as he thought back to the event.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>I\nnow put the question to him, \u201cWhy after being so recently delivered from Egypt\nby the hand of God with such a powerful demonstration were they so afraid to go\ninto a land God had already promised? Did they really think the Lord would not<\/i><\/b>\ndeliver them from the giants?\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cYou\nare looking at something that has baffled many people throughout the centuries\n\u2013 and yet it is a natural reaction for a people who grew up with a bondage\nmentality. Think about it for a minute!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cHere\nis a nation of people who had never had a land of their own.They<\/span>\nhad the promise and covenant that God made with Abraham that He would give them\nthis land, but it really wasn\u2019t real to them. Israel had prospered greatly in Egypt\nduring the years that Joseph was Prime Minister and for many years thereafter\nunder the Pharaohs who were part of that dynasty.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cWhen\na different Pharaoh came to the throne of Egypt through a series of wars and\nassassinations who was not part of that previous dynasty, he had neither\nknowledge of Joseph nor any interest whatever in retaining any friendship with\nthe Hebrews. They were leaches on \u201chis land\u201d as far as he was concerned and he\nwas going to use them to create a name and memorial for himself.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cIsrael\nbecame a worker class of people under him and his successors. For centuries\nthey were systematically pillaged and used. Generations of people grew up being\ntold daily that their lives were worth nothing. They were treated continually\nas the scum of Egypt.<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cYou\ndon\u2019t grow up being programmed daily like that and not have it affect your\nwhole mindset \u2013 your way of thinking.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cBut,\u201d\nI argued, \u201cIsrael had a Covenant with God that had to have been a constant\nremembrance for them. They had to have known that they were His Chosen People!\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>Moses\nchuckled.\u201cIt\u2019s one thing to be reminded of that heritage and another thing\naltogether to rise above that in the face of daily hard labor and bondage to a\nPharaoh whose servants did everything they could to demean, to insult, to put\ndown and to create in the minds of the people that the only reason they were\nalive was to serve him.<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cThe\npeople had no self-worth, no image whatever of who God was, nor any life track\nrecord of God\u2019s intervention and provision for them as a people. They still\nthought of themselves according to all they\u2019d been programmed with under\nPharaoh.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cSure,\nGod had delivered us from Egypt\u2019s power with a series of breathtaking plagues\nupon the Egyptians! He had done the unthinkable and impossible by opening up\nthe Red Sea for us so we could escape from Pharaoh. He subsequently destroyed\nPharaoh\u2019s royal armies as the waters rushed back over them when they tried to\nfollow. It should have been enough, but for that generation it wasn\u2019t.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cJoshua\nand Caleb were certainly of a different mindset, then,\u201d I answered.\u201cHow could\nthey be so different from the other leaders?\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cIf\nyou talk to them, you\u2019ll realize that they had a level of faith that exceeded\nthe unbelief of their fellow-spies. When God began to show His hand on behalf\nof our people, both of them were filled with faith and courage and an\nunwavering trust in God. They were a different breed somehow. They were almost\noblivious to the obstacles and dangers that lay ahead. They certainly were\naware of them, but God\u2019s Word and His promises to take us into a<\/span> <\/span>land and give it to us obliterated the\nobstacles as far as their thinking went. They were a joy to watch and be with!\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>Perhaps\none of the most fascinating things that took place during my discussions with\nMoses \u2013 and I have shared this as happening with some of the others \u2013 was the\nvision of seeing Moses in the midst of the actual circumstances that unfolded. In\nsome cases those visions have stayed with me in more clarity than the\nconversations.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>I\nsaw the Red Sea open for the Israelites and then close over the pursuing\narmies. I saw Moses strike the rock in his anger against Israel\u2019s rebellion. I\nwas also able to see what he saw from Mount Pisgah. It was like being there in\nperson in many instances. The conversations were often reinforced by the seeing\nof the events as they had unfolded centuries and millennia before. Many of\nthose pictures are etched in my mind and in my spirit as though I had been a\nfirst-person participant or observer.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>This\ndiscussion began with my question.\u201cMoses,\u201d I asked, \u201cWhat provoked you to\nstrike the rock after the Lord had instructed you to speak to it? You had done\nso well in leading Israel up to that point. From all I\u2019ve read, the Lord was\npretty happy with you.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>FYI,\nif you want to read about this event, take a look at Exodus 17 to begin with,\nand then read Numbers 20.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>Moses\u2019\neyes seemed to look off in the distance as he remembered the events.\u201cLet me\nrefresh your memory concerning the striking of the rock,\u201d he said.\u201cYou\u2019ll\nrecall that shortly after we left Egypt, the children of Israel were a pretty\nangry and fearful lot of people.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cThey\nbecame angry over not having enough food. Aaron and I took things to the Lord\nand He sent Manna from Heaven to feed them. They complained about not having\nmeat and the Lord sent them the quail in abundance. Then they complained about\nnot having water to drink.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cWe\nwere at Mount Horeb<\/span> when the answer of the Lord was\nto strike the rock. Water came forth like a river out of the rock. It flowed\ndown the hill and through the camp of Israel like a gusher. So long as we were\ncamped there in Rephidim<\/span> they had that water from the\nrock flowing continually. It was a perpetual miracle in their sight.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cNow,\u201d\nhe continued, \u201cLet\u2019s skip forward in time for more than 35 years. I had been\nthrough a lot with Israel. Despite all the miracles God had done for us in\nEgypt, leaving Egypt and our years in the wilderness, despite the fact that He\nhad clearly demonstrated to the surrounding nations His Blessing on us and the\nfact that we were a unique people in the earth, there was still non-stop complaining,\ncriticism and accusations against the Lord in our midst.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cHonestly,\nI\u2019d had about all I could take! We had seen the nonstop provision of the Lord\nthrough all of our years of wanderings. We were nearing the end of the forty\nyears of wandering in the wilderness while the generation that came out of\nEgypt died off. You remember what happened when certain of the fathers in\nIsrael decided they were going to appoint for themselves a captain or leader\nand head back to Egypt because of the fear generated by the negative report of\nthe ten spies? God had said to them that their generation would wander in the\nwilderness for forty years \u2013 that their carcasses would bleach in the desert\nwhile their children were taken into the Land of Promise.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cJust\nas God had said, that generation was dying off. In fact, most of that\ngeneration was already dead by this time. The nation had been watching as God\u2019s\nWord was being fulfilled before their eyes. They were watching the judgment of\nthe Lord upon a rebellious generation. Here we are now at Kadesh<\/span>.\nMy sister Miriam had just died and been buried.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cThe\nplace where we were encamped was quite dry and there was no ready water supply.\nOnce again the grumbling and complaining started, and I was being accused of\nbad leadership. The same old accusation began making the rounds again that I\nhad led Israel to this desert place to kill them off. My frustration level was\nat its limit as it was with Aaron, my brother.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cWe\nwent into the Tabernacle and fell on our faces before God crying out for\nanswers. The Word of the Lord was clear and unmistakable. \u2018Take the Rod of\nAuthority and stand before Israel. Speak to the rock,\u2019 He said. \u2018Do this in\ntheir presence before their eyes. Watch me bring forth water out of the rock\nonce again.\u2019<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cI\nreally had no excuse for striking the rock. God\u2019s Word was clear. \u2018Speak,\u2019 He\nsaid. Not \u2018strike\u2019 like He had the previous time. When I stood before the\npeople this time, I was seething inside. Anger took hold and in that moment of\nemotional upheaval I disobeyed the Lord. Not just once, but twice I struck that\nrock \u2013 hard!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cGod\nstill showed His hand of deliverance for the people that day and water came out\nof the rock in abundance. My disobedience, however, and my moment of irritated\nrebellion cost me! The Lord immediately spoke to me and judgment was in His\nvoice. That single act and emotional outburst had a prophetic significance I\nfailed to see in that moment and it was going to cost me the privilege of\nleading Israel into Canaan.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>Implicit\nin Moses\u2019 voice was a warning \u2013 not only to me but to all of us as believers \u2013\nnot to succumb to our emotions in times of stress, frustration and anger:\nparticularly when we have heard a direct Word from the Lord which requires\nspecific obedience.<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cThose\nwords from the Lord must have really sounded throughout your whole being from\nthat moment until He took you to Mount Pisgah a couple of years later to see\nthe land you could have and should have entered,\u201d I said.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>He\nnodded his head.\u201cThere was disappointment in me, of course. Standing and\nlooking over the land, seeing the treasure that God had in this place for His\npeople was awe-inspiring. At the same time, there was an indescribable peace\ninside my being. God was a Covenant-keeping God!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>He\nhad promised this land to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. He had instructed me\nto lead their descendants \u2013 His chosen people \u2013 from bondage and poverty to\nthis wealthy place. He had kept His Word and I had been God\u2019s instrument of\npromise to accomplish it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cAt\none hundred twenty years of age, I was as strong as the day I left Egypt \u2013\nperhaps stronger \u2013 and yet I knew that the assignment for taking this land and\nrouting its wicked occupants belonged to Joshua, and the next generation. I was\nvery grateful to the Lord for the privilege and the responsibility He had\nentrusted to me, and Israel was taking Canaan!\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>That\nhas to be it for today. There was more, of course, but I want to move on to one\nmore individual whose life and calling made a huge impact on me as a young\nperson \u2013 especially in view of how God had already been dealing with me.<\/span>

\n<\/span>Though 2011 has already been a\ndifficult year \u2013 and it is going to get even more difficult in the weeks and\nmonths ahead -- God is going to show His hand on behalf of His people,\nespecially those who believe His Word and trust Him implicitly!<\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n
