Good Morning, Good\n Morning!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nare a few folks who\u2019ve suggested that I am a \u201cChristian Zionist\u201d \u2013 not\nunderstanding the term \u201cZionist.\u201dThe term \u201cZionism\u201d really began in England a\ncentury or more ago referring to the intent and the (then) budding movement\namong members of the British government to see Israel restored to its\nGod-covenanted homeland. But the term \u201cZionism\u201d has far deeper roots than just\nthe political or geographical concepts suggest. I\u2019ll get back to this in a\nmoment.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>First of all, let me\ntake a minute to explain some rules concerning Biblical prophecy.<\/span><\/p>\n


\n <\/span>As nearly any Hebrew\n scholar will tell you, there are not less than seven layers of interpretation\n to the Word of God. I won\u2019t take the time today to lay out each of those\n layers, but suffice it to say that interpretation and understanding begins with\n the surface meaning of the words. Underneath the surface there are core\n meanings rooted in pictures that no single word or translation can possibly\n convey. In some instances, because the meanings have their roots in the Hebrew\n culture and thought processes, certain phrases tend to convey expressions that\n are totally lost in modern western thought.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>Thus, attempts in our\nwestern society to interpret Scripture solely on the basis of our English\ntranslations (or Spanish, or German, or French, or whatever) of the Hebrew or\nGreek \u2013 those translations resulting in over-simplistic single words or phrases\nwhich fail to capture the essence of Hebrew thought \u2013 fail miserably, often\nleaving the reader with a poor interpretation of what the Holy Spirit is\nsaying.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>I have cited in the\npast, for example, my translation from the Song of Solomon which constitutes\nnon-stop Hebrew metaphors from its opening passage to the very end of the Song.\nA recurring phrase which appears in the Song of Solomon (1:5), \u201cI am black,\u201d\nalso appears in Jeremiah\u2019s prophecy. It has nothing to do with the color of\none\u2019s skin. It is an expression of woe, of weariness, of spiritual exhaustion;\nand it is based in a fundamental understanding built into every single\nindividual (whether they realize it or not) that because we are created in the\nimage of God; that like Adam was, so are we in need of a counterpart \u2013 an\n\u201cother self.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>The world has\ntrivialized this into a search for \u201cone\u2019s soul-mate,\u201d but the \u201csoul-mate\u201d\nconcept misses completely the spiritual nature God invested in us and expressed\nin the Song of Solomon as \u201cmy sister, my spouse.\u201dThis phrase much more\nliterally translates out of its metaphorical usage into \u201cmy counterpart, my\nother self,\u201d \u2013 in other words, \u201cmy beloved!\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>The expression, \u201cI am\nblack,\u201d is rooted in the specific weariness that comes from a life-long and\nfruitless search for the husband or wife specifically designed by God to\nfulfill and complete you in such a way that you become a complete being. Eve\ncompleted Adam, but Adam also completed her. She was his beloved! He was her beloved!<\/span><\/p>\n


\n <\/span>When Jeremiah used\n this phrase, he was speaking on behalf of the Lord God, who was expressing His\n weariness in His search and crying out for the return of His beloved \u2013 that\n people whom He had created for Himself. They had left Him to bond with other\n gods and He was crying out through His prophets to return to Him.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>When the Lord gave\nDella to me, He completed me. The \u201csearch\u201d in my being for my counterpart\n(something which happens deep in one\u2019s spirit, often well below any conscious\nlevel) ended with Della. She fulfills me, she completes me, she is what I am\nnot, and I am what she is not. Together we are one: one whole being! She is a\nwhole lot more than my \u201csoul mate\u201d: she is my counterpart, my other self, my\nbeloved!<\/span><\/p>\n


\n <\/span>Anyway, I\u2019ve said all\n that to say that to try and interpret prophetic utterances from Scripture based\n solely on the surface meaning is to completely miss the \u201chidden Manna\u201d revealed\n in layer after layer after layer of the Word. None of these layers are\n exclusive to themselves, nor does any layer contradict or negate in any way the\n surface meaning.<\/span><\/p>\n


\n <\/span>I may be taking you\n around a 40-acre field in order to get to Psalm 83, but bear with me. This is a\n significant prophecy and it is important to lay proper foundations for\n understanding.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>It is of prime\nimportance to first remember that these prophecies \u2013 both Old and New\nTestaments \u2013 were given by Jews whose understanding was rooted in the\nseven-layers of God\u2019s Word.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>Secondly, let\u2019s\nremember that they were (in nearly every instance) prophesying to a Jewish\naudience who knew exactly where they were coming from. Thus the prophecies were\nmade specifically to the Jews. They were the first recipients of those\nprophecies and God was speaking directly to them, promising what He would do\nfor them as a covenant-keeping God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>Here\u2019s the catch. Saying\nthat they were the first<\/span><\/b> recipients\nis not the same as saying they were the only<\/span><\/b>\nrecipients. The prophet Joel made a very specific prophecy which Peter quoted\non the Day of Pentecost. Peter applied the prophecy to 17 nationalities or\ngroups of people who heard their languages being spoken by newly\nSpirit-baptized men and women.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>\u201cAnd it shall come to\npass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons\nand your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young\nmen shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in\nthose days will I pour out my spirit. And I will show wonders in the heavens\nand in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be\nturned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the\nterrible day of the LORD come. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall\ncall on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in\nJerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom\nthe LORD shall call.\u201d<\/span><\/i>(Joel 2:28-32) <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n


\n<\/span>When Peter was\npreaching to the multitudes on the Day of Pentecost \u2013 a multitude that included\nthe aforementioned 17 nationalities (non-Jews) \u2013 he made the following\namplification to Joel\u2019s prophecy:<\/span>\n<\/span>\u201cFor the promise [of\nthe Holy Spirit] is to and for you and your children, and to and for all that\nare far away, [even] to and for as many as the Lord our God invites and bids to\ncome to Himself.\u201d<\/span><\/i>(Acts 2:39 \u2013 Amplified Version)<\/span><\/p>\n


\n <\/span>The NLT puts it like\n this:<\/span> <\/span>\u201cThis promise is to you, and to your children, even to the\n Gentiles <\/sup>and to people far in the future\u2014all who have been called by\n the Lord our God.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You see the specificity here, don\u2019t\nyou? The promise is made first to the Jews: then it is to the Gentiles (the\nnations of the earth).<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One of the problems with modern\ntranslators and folks who\u2019ve been programmed with traditional western thought\nis that they have somehow replaced the notion of these prophecies applying to\nthe Jews with the idea that they only (or mostly) apply to the body of Christ. We\nsometimes refer to this as \u201creplacement theology.\u201dProphecies that were meant\nfirst for the Jews somehow now don\u2019t<\/b> apply to the Jews in this theology.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A corollary doctrine is that of \u201ccessationism<\/span>.\u201d This teaching relegates prophecies such as\nPeter\u2019s prophecy in Acts 2:39 to the past. The idea is that such utterances\n\u201capplied to the Jews and to the early church, but it died out with the\napostles.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This is why so many prophecies and so\nmany scriptures often get taken out of context to prove some religious\ndoctrine. The western mindset we\u2019ve all grown up with really is an enemy to the\nTruth of God\u2019s Word.It<\/span> does its best to separate\nthings out into some kind of logical order \u2013 logical, that is, by western\nthinking. End time doctrines, especially, suffer from this mindset. It\u2019s why we\nhave \u201cpre-Trib<\/span>, mid-Trib<\/span>\nand post-Trib<\/span>\u201d doctrines concerning the return of the\nLord Jesus Christ. The Word is not taken as a whole message: it gets separated\ninto \u201cdispensations\u201d and segments instead of seeing it as one single message\nfrom beginning to end.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The Word of God stands intact for all\ngenerations! It was true yesterday. It is true today. And it will be true\ntomorrow!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Getting back to \u201cZionism,\u201d one needs to\nrealize that Zion was originally the fortress that Shem built after the flood. It\nwas the fortress and the hill that David re-captured from the Jebusites<\/span> (after they had taken it over following Shem\u2019s\ndeath) when he restored Jerusalem to the Israelites. It was the place where he\nerected his simple tabernacle consisting of a tent (with flaps open) and the\nArk of the Covenant on display for all Israel to see. It was the place where he\nestablished the continuous ministry of praise and worship.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Zion represented the covenant of\nmarriage that the Lord made with His people. In Psalm 2, David prophesies of\nthe coming Messiah when he writes,<\/span>\n<\/span>\u201cYet have I set my\nking upon my holy hill of Zion.\u201d<\/span><\/i>This was not about him, although he\nruled from Zion: it was about an everlasting covenant that God had made \u2013 one\nthat would be exhibited through His people Israel, and made available to the\nwhole earth.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider another of David\u2019s prophecies\n\u2013 and Israel had not been carried away into captivity when he wrote this:<\/span> <\/span>\u201cOh that the salvation\nof Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth<\/span>\nback the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.\u201d<\/span><\/i>(Psalm 53:6)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Then\nthere\u2019s this one:<\/span> <\/span>\u201cFor God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah:\nthat they may dwell there, and have it in possession. The seed also of his\nservants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.\u201d<\/span><\/i>(Psalm 69:35-36)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

There are something like 150 separate\nprophecies concerning Zion throughout the Old Testament which refer to the\ncoming of the Messiah, the restoration of Israel as a nation, the unification\nof Jerusalem and the gathering together of all the tribes of Israel to their\nhomeland after being scattered by the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Zionism really \u2013 at its heart \u2013 is the\ncry for the salvation and restoration of Israel according to the promises of\nGod. So, to answer those who speak negatively about \u201cZionists\u201d and \u201cChristian\nZionism,\u201d I am in every respect a Zionist. I believe God\u2019s Word. I believe that\nIsrael is being \u2013 and MUST BE \u2013 restored according to the promises God has made\nto the Jews. God\u2019s covenant with them was that He absolutely would restore them\nas a nation and as a people in the earth!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I am a \u201cChristian Zionist\u201d also because\nI believe in the multi-layered pictures contained in these prophecies. I\nbelieve in a completed and fulfilled Bride of Christ consisting of both Jews\nand Christians \u2013 the counterpart and \u201cother self\u201d of the Lord Jesus Christ. It\nis not possible to separate Israel and the body of Christ \u2013 and yet,\nparadoxically, they are distinct. It is one of the unique aspects of the\n\u201chidden Manna\u201d contained in the seven layers of the Word.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So why, then, this focus on modern\nIsrael? Why is there such importance on the restoration of the Jewish homeland,\nthe unification of Jerusalem, and the gathering together of the scattered\ntribes of Israel from throughout the world? What does that have to do with us\nas Christians and the body of Christ as a whole?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Everything!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What happens in and with Israel is a\ndirect prophetic correlation to what God is doing in the earth! It is a picture\nof the in-gathering together, the great harvest of souls for the Kingdom of God\nand the Lord Jesus Christ taking place around the earth even as we speak. It is\nthe fulfilling of Paul\u2019s prophecy in Ephesians 1:18-19:<\/span> <\/span>\u201cI pray that<\/span><\/i> <\/span>the eyes of your heart\nmay be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what\nare the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the\nsurpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.\u201d<\/span><\/i> <\/span>(NASB)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Israel, the Jews AND the Gentiles\n(nations of the earth) represent His inheritance! That inheritance is so\nmulti-faceted and multi-layered as to defy description.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That (finally! Whewww<\/span>!!)\nbrings us to the prophetic Word of Asaph<\/span> in Psalm 83.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He begins with a cry to the Lord to\nexecute judgment on His enemies! Notice that Asaph<\/span>\ndoes not refer to them as the enemies of Israel: these are God\u2019s enemies \u2013 and\nthat is an important distinction. The Holy Spirit is interceding through Asaph<\/span> in a prophetic word of an event to come.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Do you remember what Isaiah prophesied\ntowards the end of his years?<\/span>\u201cAnd it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will\nanswer<\/b>; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear. The wolf and the lamb\nshall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust\nshall be the serpent\u2019s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy\nmountain, saith<\/span> the LORD.\u201d<\/span><\/i>(Isaiah 65:24-25)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So Asaph<\/span> is\npreparing the stage in the realm of the Spirit long before this event is to unfold.Take<\/span> a quick look at Romans 8:26-27:<\/span> <\/span>\u201cLikewise the Spirit\nalso helpeth<\/span> our infirmities: for we know not what\nwe should pray for as we ought<\/b>: but the Spirit itself maketh<\/span>\nintercession for us with groanings<\/span> which cannot be\nuttered. And he that searcheth<\/span> the hearts knoweth<\/span> what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh<\/span> intercession for the saints according to the will of\nGod<\/b>.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So it is the Holy Spirit who is\npraying\/prophesying through Asaph<\/span> who couldn\u2019t\npossibly know in the natural the events to unfold or know how to pray for\nsomething he has never seen or conceived. And Asaph<\/span>\naccordingly, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, is making intercession for\nGod\u2019s people according to the will of God! I cannot overemphasize the\nimportance of this.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And how do the enemies of the Lord take\ncounsel against Him and conspire against the Almighty?<\/span>\u201cThey have taken crafty counsel against thy\npeople, and consulted against thy hidden ones. They have said, Come, and let us\ncut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in\nremembrance.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This is a time-honored practice of\nSatan and is one of his classic military tactics against God.He<\/span>\nhas no way to counter God Himself in person so he comes against God\u2019s people \u2013\nand especially those who\u2019ve been chosen by Him \u2013 whether it be Israel or\nbelievers today.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve already talked about the ten\nnations in the previous Coffee Break, but for the sake of review, here they are\nagain:<\/span> <\/span>(1)<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Edom<\/span> <\/span>[Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq],<\/span> <\/span>(2)<\/span><\/b> <\/span>The Ishmaelites<\/span><\/span> <\/span>[the\nSinai to Iraq],<\/span> <\/span>(3)<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Moab<\/span> <\/span>[Lebanon, Syria, Jordan],<\/span> <\/span>(4)<\/span><\/b> <\/span>The Hagarites<\/span><\/span> <\/span>[Jordan\nto the Sinai],<\/span> <\/span>(5)<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Gebal<\/span><\/span> <\/span>[Lebanon],<\/span> <\/span>(6)<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Ammon<\/span><\/span> <\/span>[Jordan\n\u2013 the Palestinians],<\/span> <\/span>(7)<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Amalek<\/span><\/span> <\/span>[The\nSinai, western Saudi Arabia],<\/span> <\/span>(8)<\/span><\/b> <\/span>The Philistines<\/span> <\/span>[Gaza, the\nPalestinians],<\/span> <\/span>(9)<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Tyre<\/span><\/span> <\/span>[Lebanon,\nsouthwestern Syria], and<\/span> <\/span>(10)<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Assur<\/span><\/span> (Asshur<\/span> - Assyria)<\/span>\n<\/span>[Syria, southern\nTurkey, northern Iraq].<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We have here a description of a\nconfederacy aligned against Israel the likes of which has never happened in\nhistory. We all know what happened when Jordan, Syria and Egypt (then known as\nthe UAE) came against Israel with their combined firepower and military might\nin June of 1967.It was a sweeping victory for Israel that went down in the\nannals of military history, and it was another example of God\u2019s miraculous\ndefense of a very tiny nation whose existence has never left the center of His\nlove and focus.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And it is that love of God for His\npeople upon which Asaph<\/span> leans in his prophetic\nprayer. He sees a time in history when the ten aforementioned nations or tribes\nassemble themselves together with a unified purpose: Israel\u2019s annihilation and\nextermination from the earth. That time is not yet, but we are quickly\napproaching it.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Iraq has no interest in Israel at the\nmoment. The government of Iraq is focused entirely on reentering the world\ncommunity and rejoining the world economy as a sovereign nation without the restraints\nand sanctions it has suffered since Saddam Hussein\u2019s invasion of Kuwait in\n1991.That doesn\u2019t mean that Iraq couldn\u2019t or won\u2019t join other Arab nations in\nthe years ahead in their hatred of the Jews. Jews are not currently welcome in\nIraq, and there is much persecution of Christians ongoing there despite (or\nmaybe because of) a huge move of the Holy Spirit taking place among the Iraqis.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Secondly, Jordan has a peace treaty\nwith Israel and King Abdullah has no immediate interest in abrogating that treaty.\nHe lacks both the will and the military might to be of much assistance in a\nconspiracy, as much as he might like to participate. However, the current\nturmoil in Jordan and the reshaping of Jordanian politics and its government in\nthe next two years could radically alter things.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, the Gaza and\nSaudi Arabia are no friends of Israel, and Ahmadinejad\u2019s<\/span>\nthreats from Iran could well force things in Iraq and Jordan to unravel more\nquickly than the current scenes there suggest. The upheavals in Egypt, Syria,\nLebanon and Saudi Arabia are priming those nations and people in such a way as\nto portend Asaph\u2019s<\/span> prophecy.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That brings us to the way Asaph<\/span> prayed against the enemies of the Lord. There\u2019s\nsimply too much to share to add to today\u2019s Coffee Break, so let\u2019s save that for\none more in the next few days.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As Christians we have a mandate from the Lord to bless Israel. Those\nwho bless Israel are blessed and become a blessing themselves. God\u2019s promise to\nAbraham was, \u201cAnd I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth<\/span> thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth\nbe blessed.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
