It makes roughly 38 ounces of the best coffee\nyou\u2019ve ever had, and I\u2019ve got a mix of Double-Roasted French and some\nmedium-roasted Swedish coffee (again thanks to Rich and <span class=SpellE>DeAngela<\/span>)\nsteeping in it as we <span class=SpellE>speak.If<\/span> you\u2019re in the\nneighborhood, stop by and join me in a cup.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>As Elliott Green notes in his legal\nargument (see<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'> <\/span><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";color:black'><a\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.think-israel.org\/green.sanremo.html\"><span style='mso-bidi-font-size:\n11.0pt;color:#3333CC'>http:\/\/www.think-israel.org\/green.sanremo.html<\/span><\/a>),<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'> <\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>The San Remo decision for the Jewish\nNational Home was ratified by the League of Nations in 1922 and endorsed by a\njoint resolution of the United States Congress that same year, with a more\nofficial US endorsement coming in the Anglo-American Convention on Palestine\n(proclaimed 1925).<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>When the UN was founded in 1945, it\nreaffirmed through its Charter the existing territorial rights of peoples as\nthey had been before the war (Article 80). This applied of course to the Jewish\nNational Home. However, many or most people today are either not aware that the\nwhole country constituted the Jewish National Home, or believe that the UN had\nsomehow eliminated this status and, in any case, had fixed legal boundaries for\nIsrael through the 1947 Partition Resolution. Yet the 1947 resolution was\npassed by the General Assembly. And all General Assembly resolutions on\npolitical issues are merely recommendations. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><br>\n<\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>The UN Charter states, defining the\npowers of the various UN bodies: &quot;The General Assembly may discuss any\nquestions relating to the maintenance of international peace and security...\nand... may make recommendations with regard to any such question&quot; (Article\n11; also see Arts. 10, 12, 13, 14). Only the Security Council can make binding\nresolutions, according to the Charter.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><br>\n<\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Now the Partition Plan, in a not\nuncommon display of political <span class=SpellE>irrealism<\/span>, recommended\ntwo states in the former mandatory Palestine west of the Jordan, one Jewish and\none Arab, plus a special status for Jerusalem (The British had separated\nTransjordan unilaterally from the Jewish National Home in 1922, although not de\njure). The Holy City was to be an internationally governed corpus <span\nclass=SpellE>separatum<\/span>. While the Jewish leadership accepted the Plan,\nthe Arab governments and local Arab leadership universally rejected it. After\nthe war had begun the UN made no effort to prevent the invasion of the country\nby Arab states, to prevent Arab attacks on Jews within the country or to\neliminate the Arab siege of the Jews in Jerusalem, a city where Jews had been\nthe majority at least since 1870. Thus Israel did not feel bound by the\nPartition recommendation. Professor Eugene <span class=SpellE>Rostow<\/span>, an\nauthority on international law, has pointed out that the Arab war on Israel of\n1947-49, &quot;made the Partition Plan irrelevant.&quot;<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:\nnormal'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>The demand, therefore, by the current\nadministration in the White House (operating in agreement with the demands of\nthe Arab League) that Israel return to the lines originally outlined by the\npartition of 1947-1949 ignores completely the fact that lands being illegally occupied\nby the Palestinians were legitimately restored to Israel in the 1967 Six-Day <span\nclass=SpellE>War.For<\/span> anyone \u2013 our nation\u2019s leaders especially \u2013 to\ndemand that Israel give those lands back in exchange for peace is illogical and\nhypocritical. Once you start down that road, one could logically argue that the\nUnited States should give back Texas and California to Mexico (and there are a\ngroup of radicals \u2013 La <span class=SpellE>Raza<\/span>, for example \u2013 who are\npushing for just that!)<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>It simply flies in the face of reason!<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>That\u2019s <b>never<\/b> going to happen,\nand any effort at a government level to begin negotiating such an action would\nbe regarded as treason. By the same token, for the U.S. \u2013 or any other national\nentity \u2013 to presuppose that Israel should surrender territory won by the blood\nof its soldiers and its citizens, and (more than that) territory given to\nAbraham, Isaac and Jacob by God as an <u>everlasting<\/u> inheritance (the\nHebrew text renders the word \u201c<\/span><span class=SpellE><i><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\";color:#943634'>o\u2019lam<\/span><\/i><\/span><span style='font-size:\n13.5pt;font-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>\u201d eternity, or: eternity of eternities,\nperpetual, to a point in time beyond the vanishing point [<span class=SpellE>Gesenius<\/span>]\n\u2013 see Genesis 17:8,19 \u2013 is arrogant beyond words!<\/span><span style='font-size:\n12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Getting back to the San Remo Accord, it\nis important to understand that nothing has changed since that charter was\ngiven for the reestablishment of the Jewish homeland. No legally binding action\nof any kind has taken place which abrogated that charter. The fact that the\nArab nations refused to agree to a two-state solution recommended by the United\nNations negated the whole idea of a separate \u201cPalestine.\u201d<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>There has never been a nation or state\nrecognized internationally as Palestine \u2013 just a designated region of the\nMiddle East. Politically speaking, Israel has agreed conceptually to a\nPalestinian state, but that agreement has always been founded upon the basic\ntenet that the Arab peoples who call themselves \u201cPalestinians\u201d must agree to\nrecognize Israel as a Jewish <span class=SpellE>state.The<\/span> \u201cPalestinians\u201d\nhave <b>never<\/b> agreed to recognize Israel as a Jewish state \u2013 <b>ever!<\/b><\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Although Israel was already legally\nentitled to what was being referred to as \u201cthe West Bank,\u201d \u201cGaza,\u201d the Sinai\nand \u201cthe Golan\u201d under the San Remo Accord, when Egypt, Jordan and Syria\nattacked Israel in 1967, Israel won those territories by right of conquest; and\nthey both legally and by right of war have the absolute claim to those lands. Any\nsuggestion to the contrary is based in utter ignorance of the laws, charters\nand internationally recognized claims of war.<\/span><span style='font-size:\n12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>We could take this argument farther,\nbut that pretty much covers it. Let\u2019s talk now about Israel\u2019s destiny.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>The Scripture actually speaks of four <span\nclass=SpellE>Israels<\/span>. If that sounds really strange, let me explain.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-left:.25in;text-indent:-.25in;line-height:\nnormal'><b><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\ncolor:#C00000'>1.<\/span><\/b><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>The\nfirst Israel we would describe as \u201cPolitical or Secular Israel.\u201dThis is\nrepresented by the governing leadership \u2013 the political structure that governs\nthe nation\u2019s day-to-day <span class=SpellE>activities.This<\/span> leadership is\n(to quote Carl <span class=SpellE>Gallups<\/span>) \u201cthoroughly secularized and\nGodless.\u201dThis Israel simply reflects the sin nature in the same way that\npolitical or secular leadership of other nations is sinful and Godless.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-left:.25in;text-indent:-.25in;line-height:\nnormal'><b><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\ncolor:#C00000'>2.<\/span><\/b><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>The\nsecond is \u201cReligious Israel.\u201dThis is that part of the people or nation that\npractices Orthodox Judaism. Jesus often addressed the religious people of that\nera \u2013 the Scribes and Pharisees \u2013 rebuking them for their adherence to\nlegalistic obedience while utterly ignoring the spiritual nature of their whole\nexistence as a people.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-left:.25in;text-indent:-.25in;line-height:\nnormal'><b><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\ncolor:#C00000'>3.<\/span><\/b><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Third\nis the geographical land that God gave by covenant to Abraham, Isaac and <span\nclass=SpellE>Jacob.Prophecies<\/span> abound throughout Scripture \u2013 both Old and\nNew Testaments \u2013 in which geographical Israel plays an important role. Many of\nthe O.T. prophets prophesied the day when Israel \u2013 the people \u2013 would be\nrestored to their land, and their land to them.<\/span><span style='font-size:\n12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-left:.25in;text-indent:-.25in;line-height:\nnormal'><b><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\ncolor:#C00000'>4.<\/span><\/b><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>And\nfourth is what we could call \u201cSpiritual Israel.\u201dPaul goes to great lengths in\nRomans to lay out the picture of the Israel of God\u2019s destiny, describing it as\nthose Jews (or Israelites) who accept <span class=SpellE>Yeshua<\/span> <span\nclass=SpellE>HaMaschiach<\/span> (Jesus (the) Christ), along with the grafted-in\npeoples of all the nations of the world who also turn from their idols to\nworship Him.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>It is important to make a distinction\nhere before we continue.<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Isaiah often prophesied of and to\nJerusalem and in so doing, prophesying to Israel (the nation) as a whole. But\nhe made a clear distinction (just as David did) between Jerusalem (the city)\nand Zion, where his Tabernacle sat (as the place of intimacy, the place of\nGod\u2019s<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";\nmso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'> <\/span><span class=SpellE><i><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\";color:#C00000'>Parousia<\/span><\/i><\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>) His immediate <span\nclass=SpellE>presence.Jerusalem<\/span> was the larger picture of God\u2019s <span\nclass=SpellE>people.Zion<\/span> was the picture of a holy, set apart,\nalways-in-tune-with-Him people whom Jesus likened to the five wise virgins.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>While Jerusalem always represented\nGod\u2019s people as a whole, Zion was the place where David established his\nTabernacle. It was the place of continuous praise, worship, prayer and\nintercession, all taking place before the Ark of the Covenant, which represented\nthe marriage between the Lord and His Chosen and Called-Out Bride.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:normal'><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\nmso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>There are numerous references to Zion\nas \u201cthe city of David\u201d \u2013 a phrase which many have taken to apply to Jerusalem\nas a whole. However, what gets missed in the translation from Hebrew is the\nfact that Zion (<\/span><span class=SpellE><i><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\";\ncolor:#943634'>tsiyon<\/span><\/i><\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>\n<\/span><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:\"Garamond\",\"serif\";mso-fareast-font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\";mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>in Hebrew) actually\nmeans: <u>a conspicuous place, a monument or guiding pillar<\/u>. The term,\nZion, was initially meant to apply to the place of David\u2019s <span class=SpellE>Tabernacle.David\u2019s<\/span>\nTabernacle was set on a high place so that Israel could see it as a visible\nreference \u2013 a mark of God\u2019s presence and covenant in and with the land. It began as a citadel in the years after\nthe great flood. Shem built it as a city and a place of safety for his bride,\nand named it Salem. He occupied this citadel and exerted righteous influence\nthroughout the land of Canaan and much of the Middle East for roughly 500\nyears.(It\u2019s not a wonder, therefore, that they referred to him as being without\nfather or mother, without beginning or ending of days! Because <span\nclass=SpellE>Jerus<\/span> had developed a military tactic of crushing the grain\nfields of his enemies and rendering the grains <span class=SpellE>unplantable<\/span>\nfor a new crop, his sons renamed him from \u201c<span class=SpellE>Jerus<\/span>\u201d to\n\u201c<span class=SpellE>Jebus<\/span>,\u201d which means \u201ccrushing.\u201dThus the city of\nSalem became known throughout some five-to-six centuries as \u201c<span\nclass=SpellE>Jebus<\/span>\u201d (the city of the <span class=SpellE>Jebusites<\/span>)\nuntil David captured it. While there certainly is a spiritual\nrelevance to these prophecies that applies to the body of Christ, and to the\nBride in this day, that is only one part of the picture. It is a prophetic picture. It is 12 taken to completion. Throughout\nScripture you see the number twelve appearing many times. It essentially\ndescribes a group of people in training and processing and preparation to rule.\nYou see it in Israel, and you see it in the body of Christ at large. We are inseparable!\nIsrael was God\u2019s original pattern people for the world. Despite the nation\u2019s\nfall into sin and departure from serving God, He would not forsake them nor\nabolish His covenant with them. Thus their redemption is taking place \u2013 even as\nwe speak. I\u2019m told by friends in Israel that an increasing number of Jewish\nRabbis are coming to the recognition that <span class=SpellE>Yeshua<\/span> <span\nclass=SpellE>HaMaschiach<\/span> was and is their promised redeemer, and that\nnumber of Rabbis is approaching the 50% level.
