 <\/p>\n\n

One\nmore note: some folks have asked me how I can remember so much detail from an\nevent that took place nearly 60 years ago. Honestly, much of what I experienced\nis still so vivid in me that it is almost like it happened yesterday. Other\ndetails have refreshed in my memory just by sitting back and being quiet before\nthe Lord. Beyond that, my cousin Dawn\u2019s request for me to have this experience\nactually recorded like this was the timing of the Lord. As I have thought back\nto the event much has come back to me, and the more I think on it and write,\nthe more the Holy Spirit refreshes my memory. In some ways it is almost like I\nam re-living the event again.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

We\nleft off in the last Coffee Break just as I was meeting Jacob. We\u2019ll pick up my\nconversations with him momentarily.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

One\nof the things I\u2019ve neglected to mention thus far is the modes of transportation\nexperienced in Heaven during this trip. Sure, there were the walks that I took\nwith some of those with whom I conversed as well as the hand-in-hand walks with\nJesus. There were, however, those times when \u2013 as we were talking \u2013 we were\nsuddenly \u201cblinked\u201d into different environments or locations. By that I mean\nthat the image of the place being described was planted in my mind and \u201cblink\u201d\n(or faster than you can blink your eye) we were there. No, it wasn\u2019t a vision:\nwe were actually in the new location.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Then\nthere were the times when walking with Jesus that we came to homes \u2013 palaces\nwould probably be more of an accurate description \u2013 and we simply passed\nthrough the walls. Doors weren\u2019t necessary to gain entrance, although I didn\u2019t\nsee any buildings or structures without doors or windows. You\u2019ll excuse the\npun, but the architecture was simply \u201cout of this world.\u201d In many instances\nwhat I saw defied natural understanding, and yet it all seemed so logical and\nsimple while there in Heaven.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

As\nan example, I saw towering buildings that seemed to be made of some kind of\nmetallic transparent material. There were elegant and adorned paths or walks\nleading to where you would expect to see some kind of doorway, but people came\nand went from those \u201cbuildings\u201d (Sorry! I just don\u2019t know what else to call\nthem.) passing through what appeared at first glance as solid walls. In one\ninstance when I approached the \u201centrance\u201d the wall dissolved into a transparent\nopening. It looked solid, but I could pass through it as easily as if walking\nthrough a natural open doorway.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

As\nalready noted previously in this series, I was constantly surrounded by a light\nthat simply radiated from everywhere. Revelation 21:23-24 best describes it\nlike this:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cAnd the city had no\nneed of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did\nlighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which\nare saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring\ntheir glory and honour<\/span> into it.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Thirty-odd\nyears ago, I put a portion of the 89th<\/sup> Psalm to music. Psalm 89:15\ndescribes my experience very well:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cBlessed is the people\nthat know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy\ncountenance.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

That\u2019s\nit! Not only did I walk in the literal light of the Lord, I was surrounded by\nthe joyful sound of praise and worship \u2013 continuously \u2013 24 hours a day (grin).\nOf course there was no time being measured by the clock while I was in Heaven,\nand yet I was aware of a passage of equivalent time during my stay. To the best\nof my understanding, I spent the equivalent of three days or so in Heaven (and\nI\u2019ll talk more about that later.)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Like\nhis father before him, Jacob was ready for my questions and began answering\nbefore I actually verbalized them.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

My\nfirst question \u2013 and it was formed as a thought \u2013 related to Jacob\u2019s\nparticipation in the deception that gained him the blessing of his father,\nIsaac, in the place of his brother, Esau.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cI\nknow what you want to ask,\u201d he said, \u201cso I\u2019ll save you the trouble of asking.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cI\nknew the Blessing my father had received from Grandfather Abraham. I saw what\nthe Blessing of the Lord had done in Grandfather\u2019s life and the extraordinary\nplace he had with God. That Blessing had been passed on to Father and he had\nexperienced many of the same things I\u2019d heard of in Grandfather.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cFor\nsome reason I\u2019ve never been able to understand, my brother, Esau, didn\u2019t see\nthe value of anything spiritual. He easily gave up his birthright just to\nsatisfy the hunger of his flesh for food. There is spiritual value in the\nbirthright and I was glad he was willing to trade it away. In the years since\nthat had taken place, I had seen nothing in Esau that desired the same walk\nwith God that my father and grandfather knew. The Blessing was integral to that\nwalk and there was a thirst, a craving, something I didn\u2019t know how to put into\nwords that cried out within me to have that same kind of relationship.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cWhen\nMother saw that Father had decided the time had come to impart that same\nBlessing (and we had talked about it many times) she contrived a way for me to\ndeceive Father. He had, as you know, told Esau to prepare him venison. It was\nhis favorite thing to eat and Esau was good at preparing it. Mother overheard\nFather tell Esau that he was going to bless him after eating of his venison. She\nknew how to prepare goat meat so that it would taste exactly like venison.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cWhen\nI realized what was happening, despite my fear that the deception would be\nfound out, it was unthinkable to me that Esau would get the Blessing because of\nall the disparaging things he had said about it in times past. I knew it was\nwrong to deceive Father, but the value of the relationship with God was worth\ntoo much to me and I was determined to have that.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cI\nguess my problem was that I didn\u2019t realize then that God saw my heart. Had I\nbeen patient He would have seen to it that Esau wouldn\u2019t receive something of\nsuch great spiritual impact he would disregard and treat so cavalierly.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cTo\ntell the truth, it was many years before I realized how much deception had\nbecome a part of my character. It was ingrained in me and I just didn\u2019t know\nhow to do things any other way.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

As\nJacob poured out his tale it was easy to see why the Lord had blessed him with\nthe Blessing of Abraham and Isaac! I saw in him that same thing that God seeks\nafter in His people today: the hunger and thirst for righteousness, the\ninsatiable craving for the presence of the Lord \u2013 the desire to know the Lord\nin the same intimate way He knows us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Seeing\nthrough Jacob\u2019s eyes as he shared, I saw that Esau ultimately developed a\nrespect for who God is but never desired a relationship with Him. He saw the\nBlessing of his father and grandfather as something that would make him rich\nand powerful in the eyes of the world around him. He wanted the benefits of the\nBlessing without being willing to pay the cost spiritually.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Jacob\nhad paused momentarily in his sharing, and he continued.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cYou\nremember when I left Laban\u2019s<\/span> house according to the\nWord of the Lord to return home? Remember how, on the way, I was told that Esau\nwas coming to meet me?\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nnodded my head as the scenes flashed before me remembering what I\u2019d read in\nGenesis 31 and 32.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cFor\nthe first time in my life I realized how much the fear of death had driven me\nand why I was such a deceiver. I had deceived repeatedly throughout my life,\nand I had been deceived in return. I hated what I was seeing in myself. Fear\nhad motivated so much of my actions that it was ruling my life. It had become\npart and parcel of my character, my personality, my makeup.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cWhen\nthe Angel of the Lord wrestled with me that night at the brook Jabbok<\/span> and I realized who I was wrestling with, I saw the\nopportunity for my character and nature to be changed by God in an instant. I\nhung onto that Angel for dear life and when he said to let him go, that was the\nmoment for me to insist on a change of nature.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cYou\nunderstand, don\u2019t you, that names are more than identifiers of a particular\nperson? Names are prophetic pictures. They are character descriptions,\ncharacter references, marks of personality and makeup. Your name is Regner<\/span>, but that\u2019s not just some name your parents gave\nyou; it is prophetic and given by God to mark you as a king, as someone who\nwill rule and have charge \u2013 someone who will be given great responsibility in\nand over the lives of people.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cMy\nname was Jacob. It was my character. It was who I was and prophetic of what I\nwould be. I was a supplanter<\/span>, a trickster, a cheat, a\ndeceiver. It was what I did when I first came out of my mother\u2019s womb. I didn\u2019t\nwant that kind of character anymore. My personality needed change \u2013 and only\nthe kind of change that God could give me.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cWhen\nthe Angel of the Lord demanded that I let him go, it was my opportunity. My\nfather had blessed me and given me the Blessing of Abraham \u2013 my grandfather \u2013\nbut it was time for me to have the Lord bless me directly. With that blessing\nwould come change and empowerment for change in my life.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cAnd\nthat\u2019s exactly what I received! The Angel said to me, \u201cYour name will no longer\nbe Jacob \u2013 the deceiver, the supplanter<\/span> \u2013 but Israel.\nNow you are a prince, and as a prince you have power with God and with men. As\na prince you have prevailed with God.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

\u201cJacob\nis not my name, or my character, or my personality any longer. I\u2019m not a Jacob:\nI\u2019m an Israel \u2013 a prince, a ruler with God, under Him, and ruling by His\ndecree!\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nsome ways by now my head was almost swimming. The revelations that were coming\nforth from the back-to-back-to-back conversations with Abraham, Isaac and\nJacob\/Israel were sinking in. A very different and fresh revelation of the Lord\nJesus Christ was unfolding for me. I was beginning to see and understand the\ndifference between people who mouth the name of God \u2013 in essence, using God\u2019s\nname in vain \u2013 and those who have paid the price for a real, personal and\nintimate relationship with Him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

With\nAbraham\u2019s obedience to that at-first-unknown voice of God, and then pursuit of\na relationship with Him in an era when literally the whole earth was following\nafter false gods \u2013 man-made gods \u2013 Isaac\u2019s pursuit of that same relationship\nand obedience to the Lord under impossible circumstances, and the heart-cry of\nJacob that God heard and responded to, bringing and changing Jacob into Israel,\nI saw the heart of the Lord for genuine intimacy, for fellowship, for\ncommunion, for an interchange of real love \u2013 not just cheap words \u2013 with\nmankind. I was seeing and understanding Creation like I\u2019d never understood it\nbefore.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

All\nof Creation came into being so that God could have intimate fellowship on His\npeer level with beings like Him, made in His image and likeness, whose\ncharacter and personality would choose Him and fellowship with Him at all costs\nabove everyone and everything else!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I\nsaw for the first time that Satan\u2019s treachery in the Garden, and his deception\nof Eve did not catch the Lord by surprise. He knew it was going to take place.\nHe was ready for it. And in that knowledge He set the stage for people to\nchoose Him over and above all the enticements that the world would offer, and\nover and above all the enticements that Satan would present with his wiles and\ndeception.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

It\nwas the overcoming process! I was seeing the pattern unfold. In that instant\nthere was an inkling of what I was likely going to hear in all of the\nconversations that would unfold in the time\/days\/period to come while I was in\nHeaven. If Abraham, Isaac and Jacob\/Israel were any indication, this overcoming\nprocess was going to be repeated again and again and again in the stories and\nadventures I would hear shared from Moses, David, Isaiah, Jeremiah, etc.,\u2026\u2026 not\nto mention Peter, James, John, Paul and the other apostles.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

One\nof the things I wanted to talk to Jacob about was his experience when he first\nleft home and saw the staircase into Heaven with angels ascending and\ndescending. This was of particular interest to me since I had experienced\nsomething nearly identical some four years earlier. The main difference between\nmy experience and Jacob\u2019s was that he saw the Lord standing at the top of the\nstaircase; and the Lord spoke to him on that occasion to reinforce and reaffirm\nthe Covenant he had first made with Abraham, and then Isaac.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He\ndescribed the appearance of the angels as \u201cinnumerable\u201d on a stairway \u2013 almost\na circular staircase \u2013 that spiraled heavenward. Whether the Lord simply gave\nhim telescopic vision to see into Heaven or whether He shortened the distance\nfor the sake of Jacob\u2019s experience (and mine, for that matter), Jacob said that\nhis view of Heaven was as if viewing through a widening portal. He could easily\nsee the Lord standing there.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nexperience of seeing a stairway to Heaven is not unique to Jacob. Others have\nexperienced this too. I may or may not have shared with you the experience we\nhad at the Calgary Stampede in 1995. Lindsay Roy (now Lindsay Rempel<\/span>), a young lady we consider as being among our\nadopted daughters, was working with us (we were helping friends use \u201cThe\nCountry Kitchen\u201d as a means to raise funds to send kids to summer camp) when\nshe had an experience of seeing a stairway coming down out of Heaven and angels\ncoming into the midst of the crowds at the Stampede fairgrounds. She was\nsurprised to see them change appearance as their feet touched the ground, and\nthey appeared as normal people.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

It\nwasn\u2019t just a dream or a vision. Lindsay saw something that was actually\nhappening \u2013 even though to her it seemed as a dream or vision. She shared her\nexperience with all of us. Michael and Melissa (Sharpe) were working with us\nand they decided to take a break and get a latte from the Starbucks\u2019 stand a\nlittle distance away.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Michael\nwas saying to Melissa as they walked, \u201cI sure would like to see something like\nthat.\u201d A tour bus had stopped fairly close to their path and people were\ndisembarking and mingling. Michael turned to see a lady standing close by.\nWithout any other word of introduction, she said to Michael, \u201cI\u2019m one of them,\u201d\nand proceeded to vanish. You can bet that Michael and Melissa beat a hasty path\nback to the kitchen to tell us what had just happened.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

OK,\nit wasn\u2019t a Jacob\u2019s ladder experience exactly, but close enough! This was no\ndream. It was one of many unusual supernatural experiences we had during our\nStampede adventures.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\u2019d\noriginally planned to talk about Moses next, but think I\u2019ll hold that for\nlater. I\u2019ve been revisiting my experiences and conversations with David.\nBecause it is so fresh right now I think we\u2019ll go there in our next Coffee\nBreak.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Following\nnext week\u2019s sharing about David \u2013 and it may run a bit longer than the usual\nCoffee Breaks \u2013 I\u2019ll be taking a break for the Christmas season, and will\nreturn early in January.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
