\u2018Mornin<\/span>\u2019 Everybody! Are ya<\/span> awake yet? Got that first cup of coffee poured? Good!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve talked many times in these Coffee Breaks about our\ngranddaughter, Jessica, and her unusual sensitivity to the things of God ever\nsince she was knee-high to a grasshopper.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jessica\nwent to the camp meeting and conference in Red Deer with us this year. She\nalmost went last year, but bailed at the last minute. Now eight years old, this\nwas a very new experience for her. She\u2019s been exposed, of course, to the realm\nof the supernatural in being around us and has experienced many things in the\nLord, her young years notwithstanding.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Each\nyear during Frontline Ministries\u2019 conferences, they have ministry for the youth\ndirected by a couple from Saskatchewan. When the time of worship concludes\nduring the main gathering, the youth head out to another room (these conferences\nhave been held at the Capri Hotel and Convention Center in Red Deer) where they\nreceive ministry designed to expose them to the realm of the Holy Spirit. The\ncouple in charge seek to help the kids come to know the supernatural as just\n\u201cnatural\u201d in Christ Jesus.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nchildren are taught the importance of speaking in tongues, laying on of hands,\nministering healing and deliverance and so forth. There is scarcely a time when\nthey gather that there are not supernatural demonstrations and manifestations of\nthe presence of the Lord. Many photographs have been taken in these meetings\nwhen a mist has appeared in their midst and there has been a tangible presence\nof the glory of the Lord; and angelic appearances take place frequently.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As\nI noted, Jessica has been exposed to a lot being around us and has seen a lot,\nbut this was a new realm for her. The second night of the gathering around\n10:00 or 10:30, Della went to check on Jessica expecting to pick her up and\ntake her home. She found her lying on the floor \u201cslain in the Spirit\u201d (to use a\ncommon descriptor) and oblivious to her surroundings entirely. Della wasn\u2019t\nsure if this was real or a \u201ccopy-cat\u201d thing because other kids were also in a\nsimilar state so she waited and watched.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

After\nsome period of time had elapsed, Jessie finally opened her eyes and slowly got\nto her feet. When she saw Della she said, \u201cGrandma, the Holy Spirit put me to\nsleep.\u201d Della asked her what happened and she answered excitedly, \u201cWe flew up\nto a place where there were three angels. I got to dance with them and be an\nangel, too!\u201d Della then asked her what they were dancing to, and Jessica said\nthat they were praising and worshiping the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nwas a very real and personal experience for Jessica, and one that she will\nremember for a lifetime. In the days that followed when she saw people falling\nunder the power of God and being laid out prostrate on the floor during worship\nshe decided she wanted to stay with us because we (Della and I both experienced\nthis) were \u201cexperiencing.\u201d That was her way of expressing what she was seeing.\nMy \u201cfeather\u201d event wowed her as much as it did the rest of us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

On\nwith our discussion.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

THE RELEASE OF AUTHORITY THROUGH THANKSGIVING<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s go back to a\nscripture that we discussed in our previous study.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I John\n5:14-17<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>14<\/span><\/sup><\/i>And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask\nany thing according to his will, he heareth<\/span> us: 15<\/sup>And\nif we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the\npetitions that we desired of him. 16<\/sup>If any man see his brother sin a\nsin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them\nthat sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall\npray for it. 17<\/sup>All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not\nunto death.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

OK? Do you see it?\nOur prayer for that brother (or sister) whom we see (or know about) in the\nmidst of a sin MUST come with thanksgiving.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Authority is released\nwhen we pray and offer up thanksgiving at the same time. Our thanksgiving to\nFather is our declaration of faith in the Covenant we have with Him through\nJesus Christ.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The authority\nreleased is that which is needed to accomplish that which we put before Father.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider this: Jesus\nalmost ALWAYS offered up thanks to Father whenever He made a request. Take a\nquick look at a few examples.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew\n15:36-37<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>36<\/span><\/sup><\/i>And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks,\nand brake them<\/u>, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the\nmultitude. 37<\/sup>And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up\nof the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John\n6:11-13<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>11<\/span><\/sup><\/i>And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he\ndistributed to the disciples<\/u>, and the disciples to them that were set down;\nand likewise of the fishes as much as they would. 12<\/sup>When they were\nfilled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that\nnothing be lost. 13<\/sup>Therefore they gathered them together, and filled\ntwelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained\nover and above unto them that had eaten.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew\n26:27-28<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>27<\/span><\/sup><\/i>And he took the cup, and gave thanks<\/u>, and gave it to\nthem, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28<\/sup>For this is my blood of the new\ntestament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John\n11:41-43<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>41<\/span><\/sup><\/i>Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was\nlaid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou\nhast heard me<\/u>. 42<\/sup>And I knew that thou hearest<\/span>\nme always: but because of the people which stand by<\/span> I\nsaid it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. 43<\/sup>And when he\nthus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Each time Jesus\nexpressed thanks to Father He did so as a confession of faith, knowing that His\nprayer or request was heard, knowing that His request was what Father would\nhave done were He standing there physically.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

EXPRESSING THANKS COMES WITH KNOWING FATHER'S WILL<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

When Jesus gave\nthanks before breaking the bread and the fishes to feed the multitudes He\nwasn\u2019t hoping<\/i> for a miracle of multiplication. He was acting on Father\u2019s\nheart\u2019s desire knowing<\/i> the loaves and fishes would multiply to more than\nmeet the needs of those hungry people.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When Jesus took the\nCup and gave thanks before giving it to the disciples, He knew with certainty\nthat He was offering them His very life-force. He knew absolutely that He had\ntaken death from the Cup.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider Jesus\u2019\nstatement to the disciples as He offered them the Cup:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew\n26:29<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>29<\/span><\/sup><\/i>But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of\nthe vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father\u2019s kingdom.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus could not drink\nof the Cup He was offering because \u2014 by virtue of His having offered thanks to\nFather beforehand \u2014 He had already taken death out of it. His course was set.\nHe was headed for the Cross.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Were He to have\npartaken of that Cup prior to the Cross, He would have canceled His own death\non the Cross and redemption for the sins of mankind would never have taken\nplace.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Remember how John saw\nit when he was taken in the Spirit on the Lord\u2019s Day?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Revelation\n13:8<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>8<\/span><\/sup><\/i>And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him [the Beast],\nwhose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the\nfoundation of the world.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus had already\naccomplished this before the very first words of Creation were uttered. He had\nbecome the sacrifice, the Lamb that needed to be offered up as the atonement\nfor the sins of the world.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Were He to drink of\nthat Cup prior to His death and resurrection the Plan set in motion before<\/span> <\/span>\u201cthe foundation of the\nworld\u201d<\/span><\/i> <\/span>would have been nullified.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus, therefore, seeing\nFather\u2019s will and knowing Father\u2019s heart for a family \u2014 having agreed with Him\nand Holy Spirit already \u2014 offered up thanks because He was now fulfilling\nliterally and physically the cancellation of the curse that had come upon the\nhuman race by Adam\u2019s sin. He was canceling death and restoring eternal life.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The first Adam had\nfailed in his effort to redeem his bride, Eve, when he ate of the fruit of the\nTree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus, as the last\nAdam, succeeded in redeeming His Bride by NOT partaking of the fruit of the\nvine UNTIL death was canceled, the curse was erased and the Kingdom of God was\nnow accessible to the human race.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

His offering of\nthanksgiving before distributing the Cup was the demonstrated proof.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

THANKSGIVING OPENS UP FATHER'S RESPONSES<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Now, let\u2019s shift the\nnature of this discussion a bit. Take a look for a minute at how the Scripture\ndefines those who are thankless or unthankful.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

II\nTimothy 3:1-8<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>1<\/span><\/sup><\/i>This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.\n2<\/sup>For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters,\nproud, blasphemers, disobedient parents, unthankful (<\/span><\/i>acharistos<\/span><\/i><\/span>:<\/span><\/i>\n<\/span>thankless, ungrateful, lacking grace\ntowards others), unholy, 3<\/sup>Without\nnatural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce,\ndespisers of those that are good, 4<\/sup>Traitors, heady, highminded<\/span>, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5<\/sup>Having\na form of godliness, but denying the power thereof<\/u>: from such turn away. 6<\/sup>For\nof this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women\nladen with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7<\/sup>Ever learning, and\nnever able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8<\/sup>Now as Jannes<\/span> and Jambres<\/span> withstood\nMoses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds<\/u>,\nreprobate (<\/span>adokimos<\/span><\/span>:<\/span><\/span><\/i>\n<\/span>tested and found unacceptable,\nunapproved, worthless, rejected) concerning the\nfaith.<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\u2019s more in this\npassage than we have time for in this discussion, but there are some keys to\nour understanding of the nature and character of thanksgiving revealed in\nPaul\u2019s letter.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Notice first of all\nthat Paul characterizes those who are unthankful among this long list of those\nwith defiled and corrupted (the Greek text uses a word which defines spoiled\nand depraved<\/i>) minds and souls.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Secondly he\ncharacterizes these minds as tested (in the crucible) and found to be worthless\n\u2014 of absolutely no value.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now obviously there\nare many characteristics to the mind or soul that is spoiled and depraved but unthankfulness<\/span> is fifth in a list of twenty. Notice also\nthat key to these negative attributes is the fact that folks who are unthankful\nhave a \u201cform of Godliness\u201d but they deny or reject the miraculous power of God\nas relevant or accessible.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Why does Paul make\nthis comparison?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\u2019s pretty simple,\nreally. Being thankful accesses and opens up Father\u2019s responses to us.\nThankfulness is part of \u201cGodliness.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The word \u201cthanks\u201d and\n\u201cthankfulness\u201d are rooted in the Greek word charis<\/i><\/span>,\nwhich means \u201cgrace\u201d and \u201cfavor.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Once you begin to\ngrasp the \u201cgrace\u201d aspect of thanksgiving it opens up a whole new vista in\nunderstanding how important a part thanksgiving plays in our walk with Father\nand the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve become\npartakers of a Covenant with God \u2014 a covenant that is absolutely inviolable.\nGod NEVER makes covenants with man that are changeable or that he can back away\nfrom keeping. I\u2019ll drop two Greek words on you that are important in\nunderstanding this Covenant we have:<\/span>\n<\/span>suntheke<\/span><\/i><\/span>\n<\/span>and<\/span> <\/span>diatheke<\/span><\/i><\/span>, and we\u2019ll come back\nto these when we take up a discussion in our next Coffee Break on the nature of\nour Covenant with God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thanksgiving is the\nexpression of grace, favor, love, worship \u2014 and a whole lot more \u2014 towards the\nLord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thanksgiving is the\nchannel of grace between us and the Lord that releases the answers and the\nmanifestation of the miraculous or the supernatural demonstrations of God in\nour midst.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Folks who make their\nrequests from God with a heart of expectancy, an attitude of \u201cgetting\u201d and\ndemanding but have no grace towards the Lord and a genuine expression of\nthanksgiving often fail to receive that which they request.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Our society today is\na thankless society. Technological achievements have made instant gratification\npossible in many situations. People expect things instantly and gripe when they\ndon\u2019t receive what they expect at a moment\u2019s notice.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The result is that\nmany Christians expect God to answer to them and their demands instantly \u2014 at\nthe moment of their request \u2014 and when God doesn\u2019t respond exactly at that\ntime, or even at some somewhat delayed moment, they begin to complain, they\nblame God for their circumstances, they accuse God of not responding according\nto His Word, and they basically blaspheme Him or rail against Him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You also have the\nopposite picture where people simply won\u2019t ask things of God that they\ngenuinely have need of, or that are freely provided within the framework of His\nCovenant with us simply because they\u2019ve believed the lie of the Enemy that \u201cit\njust isn\u2019t His Will.\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
