How\r\nbe you this great, getting\u2019 up mornin<\/span>\u2019?<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

My\r\ncoffee is steeping at the moment. Got some of the richest, oiliest dark-roasted\r\ncoffee beans you\u2019ve ever seen. Man, when you grind those beans, it fills the\r\nwhole house with an aroma that just won\u2019t quit! I\u2019m going to pour my cup in a\r\nminute, and grab a \u201cvitamin\u201d to go with it.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

You\r\nknow what kind of \u201cvitamins\u201d I\u2019m talking about, right? Those things you get\r\nover at Safeway, or Krispy<\/span> Kreme<\/span>,\r\nor Dunkin\u2019 Donuts? Hehehehehe<\/span>\u2026\u2026 Now you\u2019ve got it!\r\nDon\u2019t you just looove<\/span> those \u201cvitamins?\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Lots\r\nmore French Roasted Columbian Supremo<\/span> in the pot this\r\nmorning, so pour yourself some brew. It's Gooooooooooooddddd<\/span>!!!!!\r\nMmmmmm<\/span> Mmmmm<\/span>..........love\r\nthat aroma!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

This\r\nCoffee Break is really being shared at the urging of my cousin, Dawn. She\u2019s\r\nheard me share parts of it and asked me the other day if I had ever written it\r\ndown. Throughout the years of sharing in these Coffee Breaks, I\u2019ve alluded\r\noccasionally to my experiences of going to Heaven, and have occasionally shared\r\nsome of them with friends, family members and small groups. This will be the\r\nfirst time I\u2019ve ever actually written about my trips to Heaven.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Throughout\r\nthe years I\u2019ve heard others share their experiences \u2013 Jesse Duplantis<\/span>\r\nis a notable example; Steven Shelley is another \u2013 and because many of them have\r\nhad similar experiences to mine I just never felt the necessity of putting it\r\non paper. I\u2019ve realized, however, that there are some singular differences and\r\nthings that I experienced that I\u2019ve never heard anyone else share. That being\r\nthe case, my prayer is that you will receive something in my sharing that will\r\nreveal more of the character and nature of the Lord Jesus Christ in your being.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

First,\r\nlet\u2019s lay<\/span> a little groundwork.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\napostle Paul makes reference to something that has been the subject of much\r\ndiscussion and controversy throughout the years. Here\u2019s how he refers to\r\nHeaven:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

II\r\nCorinthians 12:2:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the\r\nbody, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth<\/span>\ud83d\ude09 such an one caught away (up, KJV) to the third\r\nheaven<\/span><\/i>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

He\r\nrefers to the \u201cthe third heaven.\u201d OK, if there are three heavens, what are\r\nthey, where are they, and why are there three? And if this guy was caught up to\r\nthe third heaven, why don\u2019t we see references to the other two?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

If\r\nyou\u2019re like me, you\u2019ve probably figured that the sky above (the atmosphere\r\naround the earth) is the first heaven, the universe (or else the realm of space\r\nsurrounding the earth) is the second heaven, and God\u2019s actual residence \u2013 the\r\nplace where angels dwell, and where we go when we die if we know the Lord \u2013 is\r\nwhat we generically call \u201cHeaven.\u201d And you\u2019d be wrong \u2013 like I was.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Some\r\nfolks actually imagine different tiers of Heaven \u2013 like storeys<\/span>\r\nin a huge building. Actually the answer(s) are pretty clear in the Word, and\r\nwhy more folks haven\u2019t caught on to this is puzzling. Let me lay<\/span> this out in logical and methodical order to clear up\r\nany confusion.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

First,\r\nDavid writes the following:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Psalm\r\n115:16<\/span><\/b>:<\/span> <\/span>The heaven, even the\r\nheavens, are the LORD\u2019S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

So\r\nDavid makes it clear there are<\/i><\/b> plural heavens. We have to go to\r\nPeter\u2019s epistles, however, in order to understand what they are.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

II\r\nPeter 3:5-6:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God\r\nthe heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the\r\nwater: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

What\r\nPeter is telling us is that the first heaven, along with the first earth,\r\nperished. I know that the KJV only translates the Greek in such a way that we\r\nare told that the \u201cworld that then was\u201d perished, without specific reference to\r\nthe heavens. However, the Greek word translated \u201cworld\u201d in this instance is<\/span> <\/span>kosmos<\/span><\/i><\/span>\r\n<\/span>(the orderly\r\narrangement of the earth as it relates to the sun, the moon and the stars;<\/span> <\/span>kosmos<\/span><\/i><\/span>\r\n<\/span>is a term which\r\napplies to both the earth and the heavens in general) rather than<\/span> <\/span>ge<\/span><\/i><\/span>, (soil; the solid part of the earth, the ground, the world)\r\nthe specific word used in verse 5 to describe the Earth as apart from the<\/span> <\/span>kosmos<\/span><\/i><\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Next\r\nPeter says this as he distinguishes between the first and second heavens:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

II\r\nPeter 3:7:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word\r\nare kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition\r\nof ungodly men.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

So\r\nthe second heaven is that heaven which exists today \u2013 \u201cthe heavens and the\r\nearth which are now.\u201d These are \u201ckept in store, reserved unto fire.\u201d Peter goes\r\non to say the following in verse 10:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

II\r\nPeter 3:10:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word\r\nare kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition\r\nof ungodly men.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

He\r\nrepeats this in verse 12:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

II\r\nPeter 3:12:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God,\r\nwherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall\r\nmelt with fervent heat.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now\r\nPeter goes on to tell us about the third heaven:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

II\r\nPeter 3:13:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens\r\nand a new earth, wherein dwelleth<\/span> righteousness.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Speaking\r\nfrom the perspective of the current heavens and earth, John confirms this as he\r\nsees a revelation of the new heaven.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Revelation\r\n21:1:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and\r\nthe first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea<\/span><\/i>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Isaiah\r\nalso prophesies this twice:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Isaiah\r\n65:17, 66:22:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the\r\nformer shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. \u2026 For as the new heavens\r\nand the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith<\/span> the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\u2019ll\r\ndeal with the subject of \u201cParadise\u201d in part two of this sharing since some\r\nfolks often confuse it with Heaven \u2013 and the same distinctions occur between\r\nHeaven and Paradise in the Word.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now,\r\nI\u2019ve said all that just to lay the foundation so that you understand the\r\nperspective from which I relate my experiences. When we talk about going to\r\nHeaven, and being caught away into the presence of the Lord, we\u2019re talking\r\nabout eternity. We\u2019re talking about the future. I was taken into the future \u2013\r\nactually into eternity \u2013 where I had these experiences.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

OK?\r\nAre we clear? Good!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\ndate, to the best of my recollection, was December 17, 1951. I was shy of my\r\ntenth birthday by about four months. For nearly six years the Bible had been my\r\ndaily companion. A thirst to know the Lord \u2013 I mean really know<\/i><\/b>\r\nHim as He is \u2013 had developed in my being. I read the Word first thing every\r\nmorning when I awoke. It was the last thing I read before falling asleep.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

After\r\nI began to have experiences at age four where I would awaken in the early\r\nmorning hours to see angels in my room, my mother wanted to ensure that I knew\r\nthe Scriptural foundation for the rather supernatural events that were taking\r\nplace in my life; and she taught me to read using the Bible. By the time\r\nDecember of 1951 rolled around, I had been through the Bible from cover to\r\ncover perhaps nine or ten times reading \u2013 no, devouring \u2013 it with an insatiable\r\ncraving.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

For\r\nthree continuous years, between the age of four and age seven, I had more\r\nexperiences with angels than I could possibly count. One morning, at or near\r\nage seven, I awoke to see Jesus standing at the foot of my bed. Without taking\r\ntime to go into all that He shared with me, He made it clear that He was\r\ncalling me into His service and that He had some special assignments for me.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\nsaw some pretty graphic scenes of events that would unfold \u2013 both in the near\r\nfuture and in the distant future. He allowed me to see the return of the Jews\r\nto Israel and the restoration of their homeland not long before the UN declared\r\nIsrael to be a nation once again. I was not a follower of the news, so if there\r\nhad been any reporting of any preparation for it in the news I was completely\r\noblivious. I simply knew of it as a prophetic Word and promise given to the\r\nJews from the Lord through several of the O.T. prophets.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

During\r\nthis visitation Jesus shared with me events to come in my own life and made\r\nsome specific promises to me that I won\u2019t go into right now. Being with Him and\r\nexperiencing His presence at that young age implanted a sense of His Glory that\r\nI still struggle to describe adequately to this day. The point I\u2019m making is\r\nthat from that moment forward, His presence was easily discernable<\/span>.\r\nI didn\u2019t need to see Him to know that He was there.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nnight of December 17th<\/sup> was no different than any other night. I went\r\nto bed at my normal time, and as usual opened my Bible to read before going to\r\nsleep. There was nothing especially revelatory or scintillating in what I was\r\nreading. The 32nd<\/sup> through the 34th chapters of Deuteronomy aren\u2019t\r\nparticularly adventure stories to grip your attention, although there were a\r\ncouple of verses in chapter 32 (6-7) that seemed to stand out momentarily.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\nhad laid my Bible out on the pillow and propped up on my elbows to read. All of\r\na sudden I felt that extraordinary, almost electric sense of the physical\r\npresence of the Lord Jesus in the room. Almost involuntarily \u2013 spontaneously \u2013\r\nI turned over expecting to see Him standing there.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

What\r\nI saw instead was something you might expect in a science-fiction movie, but\r\nthere was nothing fictional about it. The ceiling in my bedroom was dissolving\r\naway so that I could see the starlit sky above. Jesus was there in mid-air\r\nbeckoning me with an outstretched hand. I reached up to take His hand and was\r\nwhisked out of the bed to be right next to Him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Effortlessly,\r\nwe flew right through the ceiling and began to accelerate upward. I glanced\r\nbackward to see where we had come from and to my utter surprise saw back\r\nthrough the roof and the ceiling my body still laying in the bed with my face\r\nin the Bible. It was a contradiction to what I was experiencing and I didn\u2019t\r\nfully understand what it meant to be transported in the realm of the Spirit.\r\nThere was no time to focus on it, however, and I turned my full attention to\r\nthe Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nsense of acceleration was awe-inspiring as we traveled faster and faster and\r\nfaster. Before long I was treated to a view of the earth that our astronauts\r\nwould get to see more than a decade in the future. Past the moon, past the\r\nplanets in our Solar System we traveled, continuing to accelerate until we were\r\nsomewhere (I guessed) in the midst of the Milky Way galaxy. Our speed continued\r\nto increase until everything was a blur.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

A\r\ngood description of what I was seeing now would be akin to the visual effect\r\nthe movie-makers have come up with in Star Trek or Stargate<\/span>\r\nwhen the ships jump to hyperspace. The stars began to blend together as white\r\nstreaks. It wasn\u2019t long before we were in total darkness. There was no sense of\r\ndirection, although the sense of acceleration and speed continued, and I was\r\nsurrounded by nothing but utter blackness. The only thing I could see was the\r\nLord Jesus Christ Himself, Who still had me by the hand.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

As\r\nquickly as we had been thrust into total darkness, we were standing at Heaven\u2019s\r\ngates. It was almost as if I had blinked my eyes for a split second and Heaven\r\nwas in front of us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Obviously\r\naware of the fact that I had been through the Word from front to back many\r\ntimes, often focusing on and spending time studying the lives of many of the\r\nBiblical characters, Jesus now turned to me and asked, \u201cIs there anyone you\r\nwould like to meet and talk to while you are here?\u201d<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Was\r\nthere? Wow! Rattling off the names of people in rapid-fire I responded, \u201cYes,\r\nJesus! I want to meet Adam and Eve. I want to talk to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.\r\nI want to meet Joseph. How about Moses? And then there\u2019s David and Solomon. And\r\nhow about Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel?<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\r\nnamed off the apostles. I wanted to meet Paul and spend some time with him. The\r\nmore I thought about it the more my list grew. Jesus looked at me and grinned.\r\nMy request was no surprise to Him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

We\r\nstepped inside the gate. We went from what had been total darkness to total\r\nlight. There was no sun, but Heaven was lit up with a brightness greater than\r\nthat of the sun. Every one of my five senses were inundated with sights,\r\nsounds, smells and feelings hard to describe.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\naroma of Heaven was \u2026 well \u2026 heavenly! It was almost like being in a flower\r\ngarden where every flower radiated its scent<\/span> to the\r\nmax at once. At the same time, it took no effort to discern between different\r\naromas and flavors. It was a feast for the nose. I don\u2019t know how to describe\r\nit any differently. I\u2019ve had moments since in the years that followed where I\r\nhave had the air fill with some of those scents \u2013 and there have been others\r\nwith me who experienced it simultaneously.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Perhaps\r\nthe most gripping thing I experienced from the very get-go was the sound. I\u2019d\r\nalready been learning to play musical instruments and was keenly aware of\r\nmusical structure. The air was filled with a sound of worship and praise the\r\nlikes of which have stayed with me my whole life. I\u2019ll talk more about this\r\nlater, but ever since this first trip to Heaven, there has never been a day \u2013\r\nand scarcely a moment \u2013 when I don\u2019t hear the sounds of praise and worship\r\nmusic flowing in my spirit \u2013 and brother, does it ever take many different\r\nforms!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Imagine\r\nfor a moment hearing music like huge waves rolling over you. Each wave brings a\r\ndifferent sound \u2013 a different focus \u2013 a different flow. One wave might be the\r\nsound of tens of thousands of voices singing in the most spectacular harmony\r\nyou\u2019ve ever heard. The next might be the sounds of strings being plucked or bowed\r\nor struck with cadences and rhythms we\u2019ve only tasted of here on earth. Another\r\nmight be the sounds of a million different kinds of brass or woodwind\r\ninstruments. Every so often I could hear the simple strains of a single\r\ninstrument in praise and worship. The music was \u2026 how can I describe it? \u2026\r\norganic!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

No,\r\nI don\u2019t mean like the sound of an organ \u2013 although there was certainly that\r\nsound present. What I mean is that the music, the praise, the worship, the\r\nsounds of the voices and instruments literally penetrated you. They became a\r\npart of your whole being in such a way that you were part of that praise and\r\nworship.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Let\u2019s\r\nput it like this: you can\u2019t be there and be in that presence of the Lord and\r\nnot have your whole being radiate that sound as though it originated within the\r\nvery cells of your existence! And it does. We were created for that purpose.\r\nEach person becomes an extension, an addition to the sound of worship. Your\r\nvery existence, your very presence (excuse me if I sound repetitious) becomes a\r\npart of that sound. It\u2019s the sound of the Lord radiating in you, out of you,\r\nthrough you! It\u2019s the sound of His presence! It\u2019s the sound of His Glory!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\r\nmusic we call \u201cpraise and worship\u201d today is a poor substitute. But the Lord\r\nisn\u2019t complaining about it. We, after all, are being trained and prepared for a\r\nnew sound \u2013 and it\u2019s not a sound like anything here I can compare it to. We\r\nneed to break out of our religious boxes. More accurately, we need for the Holy\r\nSpirit to break us out of our musical mindsets, our expectations and the sounds\r\nwe come to expect as a part of praise and worship.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

I\u2019ve\r\nrun out of time today, so let\u2019s pick it up here in our next Coffee Break as we\r\nconsider the sights that I saw. If we have time in that discussion, I\u2019ll get\r\ninto some of the conversations that took place.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

If we live in His presence, and\r\ncontinually respond to His voice, He will reveal His Glory in us. If He reveals\r\nHis Glory in us, He will have received His inheritance in us \u2013 and that\u2019s what\r\nthis is all about!<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n
