Howdy, Howdy!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

My apologies to all the readers of this column for the long\nbreak since the last posting in mid-June<\/span><\/b>. We have been in the midst of a\ntransition from our location in Prosser, Washington to new quarters, and that\ntransition is not yet complete. In addition, we\u2019ve been in Canada for the\nbetter part of this past month participating in a prophetic conference\nsponsored by Frontline Ministries in Sylvan Lake and Red Deer, Alberta, as well\nas an Open Bible Faith Fellowship pastors\u2019 conference immediately following.\n(More on that in the days to come.) At the same time, we are losing some of our\nlong-time ministry staff who are moving on to other ministries and places as\nGod is opening doors for them. Actually, I should rephrase that to say that we\nare sending them forth with our blessings and appreciation for their longtime\nassociation and fellowship with us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/p>\n

Robert\n and Sandy Storer<\/span> (and their son, Andrew) will be\n leaving us for a ministry in Arkansas. Della told me some months ago that the\n Lord had alerted her to the fact that He was going to be drawing them on to\n other fields of activity and that we should be prepared for their departure. With\n nearly 19 years of fellowship and ministry together that dates back to our days\n at Trails\u2019 End in Idaho, they have been faithful laborers in the Gospel and\n effective intercessory prayer ministers \u2013 not to mention their musical\n involvement and participation in our daily worship gatherings.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/p>\n

Sandra\n Lopez, who has overseen our children\u2019s ministry for most of the past four\n years, has taken on nursing as a career, and is being drawn away from her\n active involvement because of job responsibilities. Although we don\u2019t expect to\n lose her completely, her new schedule precludes her being with us on Sunday\n mornings to minister to the children. She has been a good steward of the Gospel\n and we bless her!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/p>\n

I\n want to try and wrap up this series \u2013 or at least this portion of this series \u2013\n within the next couple of weeks and move on to share with you a prophetic\n picture of the body of Christ that the Lord has given to Della and me through\n parallel dreams within the past few days. By the grace of God we should be able\n to do that in mid September. In order to accomplish this, I will be publishing\n these Coffee Breaks every three or four days.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now,\non to today\u2019s discussion.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/p>\n

JESUS' OBJECTIVE IS REMISSION AND RECONCILIATION<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s take a look at\none more example in the Word that clearly outlines the heart\u2019s desire of the\nLord before we shift gears in this study.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/p>\n

Matthew 18:11-20<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span>11<\/span><\/sup><\/i>For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. 12<\/sup>How\n think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth\n he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth<\/span> into the\n mountains, and seeketh<\/span> that which is gone astray? 13<\/sup>And\n if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth<\/span>\n more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

14<\/span><\/sup><\/i>Even so it is not the will<\/span><\/i>\n<\/span>(thelema<\/span><\/i><\/span>:<\/span><\/span> <\/span>desire,\npleasure, inclination<\/span><\/b>)<\/span> <\/span>of your Father which\nis in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

15<\/span><\/sup><\/i>Moreover if thy brother shall trespass<\/span><\/i> <\/span>(hamartano<\/span><\/i><\/span>:<\/span><\/span> <\/span>err, miss the mark,\nsin, commit an offense<\/span><\/i><\/b>) against thee, go and tell him<\/span><\/i> <\/span>(elengcho<\/span><\/i><\/span>:<\/span><\/span> <\/span>admonish, reprove,\nrebuke [in love] with convincing evidence<\/span><\/i><\/b>)<\/span>\n<\/span>his fault between thee\nand him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. 16<\/sup>But\nif he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the\nmouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17<\/sup>And\nif he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church (Ekklesia<\/span>):\nbut if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man\nand a publican.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

18<\/span><\/sup><\/i>Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind<\/span><\/i> <\/span>(deo<\/span><\/i><\/span>:<\/span><\/span> <\/span>tie up, lock,\nrestrict, or stop<\/span><\/i><\/b>)<\/span> <\/span>on earth shall be\n[having been] bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose<\/span><\/i> <\/span>(luo<\/span><\/i><\/span>:<\/span><\/span> <\/span>break up, dissolve,\nunlock or put off<\/span><\/i><\/b>)<\/span> <\/span>on earth shall be\n[having been] loosed in heaven.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

19<\/span><\/sup><\/i>Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as\ntouching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father\nwhich is in heaven. 20<\/sup>For where two or three are gathered together\nin my name, there am I in the midst of them.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

What is Jesus getting\nat with this discourse? It\u2019s pretty simple, really. He\u2019s describing some pretty\nextreme circumstances to demonstrate that His first objective in every\nsituation is to bring forgiveness, remission of sin, and reconciliation between\nbrethren. With the example of the one lost sheep, He demonstrates His heart to\nrecapture and retrieve those who\u2019ve fallen by the wayside, been ensnared and\nare on the verge of losing their lives.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Next, Jesus launches\ninto the picture of dealing with deliberate personal offenses. In this parable,\nHe is not using the word,<\/span> <\/span>paraptoma<\/span><\/i><\/span> <\/span><\/i>(side\nslip, lapse in judgment, error\u2014intentional or unintentional, sin<\/i>)<\/b><\/span> <\/span>that\nHe used with the disciples in Mark 11.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

This time He uses<\/span> <\/span>hamartano<\/span><\/i><\/span> <\/span>\u2014\nthe archery term \u2014 which defines a missing of the mark or the target (and is\nused more often throughout the Greek text of the New Testament to define more\ndeliberate or repetitious sins and offenses).<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Since His objective\nis complete remission and reconciliation between His people, Jesus commands a\nsequence of events which resolves disputes and offenses 99 percent of the time.\nThe first step is to go to the individual whose words or actions clearly\nevidence wrongdoing towards you; show him in love the nature of the sin or\noffense and seek to resolve and reconcile the issues. Most of the time, this\nprocedure is going to work \u2014 especially when you have two people who love the\nLord and are seeking to walk in harmony with Him.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

If this fails,\nhowever, the next step is to take one or two other brothers (or sisters) in the\nLord with you \u2014 either or both of whom have been witness to the sin or the\noffense \u2014 who will be able to provide both affirming testimony and secondary\ncounsel to them. It is a rare set of circumstances in which this step does not succeed,\nparticularly when the offender has walked in a bond of love with all the\nparties concerned.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

SUMPHONEO<\/span><\/b> <\/span>PUT TO THE TEST<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But Jesus doesn\u2019t\n leave it there. He is so committed to having agreement (sumphoneo<\/span><\/i><\/span>:<\/span><\/span> <\/span>with the same sound, being in harmony, speaking the same\n thin<\/span><\/i><\/b>g<\/span><\/b>) between the members\n of His body that He provides a third procedure should the first and second\n fail. If the offending individual fails to hear and receive the rebuke and\n admonition from the first and second (and even third, if present) brothers or\n sisters, Jesus now commands that the individual be brought before the entire\n body \u2014 the Ekklesia<\/span> of which he is a part \u2014 and that\n a serious, all-out effort be made by the entire body to bring healing and\n remission and reconciliation.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Where there is real<\/span> <\/span>agape<\/span><\/i> <\/span>in operation in a body of believers, it\nis hard to fathom any conceivable situation in which the offender could not or\nwould not hear and repent. We are talking about a pretty extreme situation in\nwhich an individual would refuse to respond in these circumstances. Should it\ntake place, however, Jesus makes clear that this person can no longer be a part\nof His Ekklesia<\/span> \u2014 that they are now treated as the\n\u201cunsaved\u201d who are unredeemed.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

I hope you are\ngetting the picture here of Jesus\u2019 immense love and heart\u2019s desire to bring\nthis lost individual back!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

They are indeed now\n\u201clost.\u201d They have refused to hear the counsel, the admonishment, the loving\nrebuke of their peers in the body, and now must be treated as though they have\nnever been a part. Sounds pretty drastic, doesn\u2019t it? But this is<\/span> <\/span>agape<\/span><\/i> <\/span>in motion. When an individual who has\nbeen an integral part of a living organism (not an organization!) like this is\nsuddenly cut off from all spiritual life, the natural instinct is to do\nwhatever it takes to get that life back \u2014 and this is what Jesus is after. His\nheart is not to cut folks off so completely that they are totally without\nredemption, but<\/span> <\/span>agape<\/span><\/i> <\/span>gives\nthem that choice without forcing their decision. They have the opportunity yet\nto repent and return \u2014 and we are commanded to remit their sin and erase it as\nif it never happened.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Again Jesus uses the\nexample of the use of the Keys of the Kingdom when He says,<\/span> <\/span>Whatever you bind,\nrestrict or stop on earth shall be, having been already bound, restricted or\nstopped in Heaven.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

And whatever you break up, loose, dissolve or\nput off on earth shall be, having already been broken up, loosed, dissolved or\nput off in Heaven.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

What He is\neffectively demonstrating is that once folks have had access to Heaven\u2019s\nresources, and those resources are suddenly cut off or stopped, there is an\nawakening to their circumstances. If they turn again and see their error and\nrepent, the Keys of the Kingdom are used to once again unlock Heaven to them.\nNotice how Jesus wraps up His discourse:<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Matthew 18:19-20<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>19<\/span><\/sup><\/i> <\/span>Again I say unto you,\nThat if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall\nask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. 20<\/sup>For\nwhere two or three are gathered together in my<\/span><\/i> <\/span>name, there am I in\nthe midst of them.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

See the picture?<\/span> <\/span>Sumphoneo<\/span><\/i><\/span>. This is what He\u2019s after: harmony,\nagreement, speaking the same thing (and seeing the results manifested before\nyour eyes), demonstrating the Kingdom of God effectively before the world!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

NONSTOP\nREMISSION OF SIN<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Peter now raises an\nissue that an uncountable number of Christians have asked in the millennia\nsince.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Matthew\n18:21-22<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>21<\/span><\/sup><\/i>Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother\nsin (<\/span><\/i>hamartano<\/span><\/i><\/span>:<\/span><\/i>\n<\/span>err, miss the mark, sin, commit an\noffense<\/span><\/i><\/b>)<\/span><\/i> <\/span>against me, and I\nforgive (<\/span><\/i>aphiemi<\/span><\/i><\/span>:<\/span><\/i> <\/span>remit, dissolve, cause to cease to exist)<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b>\n<\/span>[the sins against]\nhim? till seven times? 22<\/sup>Jesus saith<\/span> unto\nhim, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

490 times? In one\nday? There aren\u2019t that many hours in the day! You get the idea. It seems\nutterly impossible, but this is what Jesus is getting at: absolutely unstoppable,\nbottomless, always-replenishing forgiveness and remission of sin. Notice also\nthat Peter\u2019s question comes within the same framework of Jesus\u2019 previous\ndiscourse. Jesus has just been talking about the means for bringing remission\nand reconciliation between brethren and sisters when a sin or an offense has\nbeen committed towards you.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

So Peter with his big\nheart says,<\/span> <\/span>\u201cDo I forgive the offending brother as much as 70 times for the\nsame offense?\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Not bad, really. I\ndoubt any of us have ever had someone commit the same sin or offense towards us\nas much as 70 times in our lives \u2014 much less in the same day! But Jesus makes\nit clear that His ability to forgive and remit is bottomless towards those who\nwill repent. And there is the key to understanding the well of<\/span> <\/span>agape<\/span><\/i> <\/span>in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is always\nreplenishing, always ready to remit and erase all evidence of sin.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Get it? Jesus is\nalways READY to remit. His final parable in this discourse shows that access to\nthat well of<\/span> <\/span>agape<\/span><\/i> <\/span>requires\nrepentance on the part of the would-be recipient.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Matthew\n18:23-35<\/span><\/u><\/b>:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>(There isn\u2019t sufficient\nroom here to print the entire text, so suffice it to say that we have the\npicture of a man who is forgiven the equivalent of a billion-dollar debt \u2014 an unpayable<\/span> amount \u2014 by the King to whom he owes the debt.)\nThis man, now forgiven, goes out and throws another man into prison who owes\nhim the equivalent of two dollars. The King finds out and reimposes<\/span>\nthe billion-dollar debt on the first man and has him given over to the \u201ctormentors\u201d\n\u2014 essentially evil spirits.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nwraps up the parable with this:<\/span> <\/span>And his lord was wroth<\/span>,\nand delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto\nhim. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your\nhearts forgive not everyone his brother their trespasses.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

Can it be any clearer?\nThere is a place<\/b> where there is no access to God\u2019s love and mercy. That\nplace is holding onto unforgiveness<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n\n

In\nour next Coffee Break we\u2019ll consider the effect and effectiveness that\nthanksgiving has in the use and operation of the Keys of the Kingdom. Remember:\nthe Keys of the Kingdom \u2013 as we have described them thus far in this series \u2013\nare authority and power, and they are given to us to use in accordance with the\nWord \u2013 the<\/span> <\/span>rhema<\/span><\/i><\/span>\n<\/span>\u2013 of God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
