ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: MIRACLES, Part 2<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

And a Great Gettin<\/span>' up Mornin<\/span>' to ya<\/span>!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Like I said in our last Coffee Break, so much is happening\neven as I write that it's hard to keep up.  Grab that cup of good really\ndark roasted coffee, maybe a "vitamin" or two, and let's not waste\nany time getting started today.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

There's been a new development with the three-year-old\ngirl who was raised from the dead two weeks ago, but because the details I have\nare sketchy, I will wait to share until I have the whole story.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

We've just had an absolutely wild experience in the realm\nof the so-called "supernatural."  I add the caveat\n"so-called" because what the world around us calls supernatural is\nsimply normal for those who will walk in the realm of the Spirit.  Each\ntime we see the word, "miracle", in our English translations of the\nNew Testament, the actual Greek word is either <\/span>semeion<\/span><\/i><\/span>, or its root\nword, <\/span>semaino<\/span><\/i><\/span>.  In neither case is our modern concept of\n"miracle" or supernatural event implied.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

J. H. Thayer, in his Greek-English Lexicon, tells us that\nthese words are applied universally in Greek grammar to signify <\/span>"that by which a person or thing is distinguished from\nothers and known."<\/span><\/i>  These were signs or\nevidentiary proofs of the authorship, the power, or the authority of a person\nor a message being delivered or announced.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The fact that you or I can articulate words and\ncommunicate thoughts with each other is nothing more or less than the\nevidentiary proof that we are not of the animal kingdom -- that<\/span>\nwe are human beings created in the image and likeness of God.  Were an\nanimal able to consider the difference between human beings and animals, our\npower of speech would seem "miraculous" in today's sphere of\nthinking.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The ability to heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the\nlepers, cast out demons and speak in languages through and by the power of the\nHoly Spirit that we've never learned is nothing more and nothing less than the\npromised evidence of the indwelling and infilling of the Holy Spirit as part of\nGod's innate existence functioning in and through us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Brother!  Did that come out OK?  All right.<\/span>  Let me put it another way.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, cast out demons,\netc., etc., as a normal, everyday part of His life and ministry while He walked\nand talked in person here on earth.  He made it abundantly clear through\nnumerous promises that, <\/span>"Verily,\nVerily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he\ndo also; and greater works than these shall he do because I go to my\nFather." <\/span><\/i><\/b> (John 14:12)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

He also said, <\/span>"The\nworks that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness (or testify with\nevidentiary proof) of me."<\/span><\/i><\/b>  (John\n10:25)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The ability, therefore, for us to do these\n"works" is nothing more than the evidence and witness of the presence\nof the Lord Jesus Christ dwelling in and functioning through us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

That said, let me another one of these\n"evidences" or "distinguishing signs" with you.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

First off, however, let me share the Scriptural basis for\nthis "sign."<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

There are three verses of Scripture I will reference\nbefore sharing this event.  The first comes from Psalm 91:11-12: <\/span>"For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep\nthee in all thy ways.  They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou\ndash thy foot against a stone."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The second comes from Psalm 103:20: <\/span>"Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that<\/span>\nexcel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his\nword."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Finally, the third reference comes from Paul's letter to\nthe Hebrews (Hebrews 1:4) and is a direct quote from Psalm 104:4: <\/span>"And of the angels he saith<\/span>, Who<\/span> maketh<\/span> his angels spirits, and\nhis ministers a flame of fire."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Paul follows his comments on angels in the same chapter by\ndescribing their function in the earth, <\/span>"Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth\nto minister for themwho<\/span><\/span><\/u> shall be heirs of\nsalvation?" <\/span><\/i><\/b> (Hebrews 1:14)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

From each of these portions of the Word, it becomes very\nclear that angels are sent to minister for and on behalf of God's people -- and\nmore specifically, on behalf of those who are or shall be "heirs of <\/span>soteria<\/span><\/i><\/span> ><\/span><\/i> <\/span>sozo<\/span><\/i><\/span>: salvation,\nhealing, deliverance, wholeness, prosperity, safety<\/u>."<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Della and I have long understood that angels are subject\nto us as believers and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ; that they are available\nto our commands when those commands incorporate the voice or sound of His\nWord.  Since His Word specifies that the angels are sent forth to minister\nfor us as heirs, whenever we have a specific need as it relates to life and our\nongoing walk with the Lord, we have the ability and the opportunity to command\nangels.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Some fifteen years ago as we were gathered together in\ncorporate worship, Della had an "open vision."  The Lord opened\nher eyes to see the angelic hosts arrayed in front of us.  The captain of\nthat host of angels came before her and dropped to one knee while holding his\nspear upright.  The Lord spoke to her almost audibly in that instant and\nsaid, "Command him."<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

It was a command to send forth the hosts to do whatever\nshe instructed.  We sort of knew -- intellectually, at least -- that the\nangels were available to do our bidding, but this was the first time there was\na <\/span>rhema<\/span><\/i><\/span> (a direct, spoken Word) from the Lord which confirmed\nit.  From that moment on, we've had a much better grasp of the authority\nwe have, both on earth and in the heavenlies<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Now!  To the present event.<\/span><\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Two weeks ago, while we were still at Mary Ellen's place\nin Red Deer, Alberta, our oldest son, Chris, called from Alaska in somewhat of\na panic.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

"Dad, you remember when I asked you to go to Bank of\nAmerica about six weeks ago and pick up a cashier's check for $3875 and send it\nto Citi<\/span>-Mortgage for my past due house payments on\nthe house in <\/span>Alaska<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:State>?"  I said, "Sure.  I picked up that check\nand sent it by express mail to Citi<\/span>-Mortgage.  I\nstill have the mail receipt."<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Chris continued.  "I just received a phone call\nfrom Citi<\/span>-Mortgage.  They claim they never\nreceived it, and because I am now almost four payments behind according to\nthem, they are going to begin foreclosure proceedings.  I've talked to\nthem about the cashier's check and they say they've never received it.  I\ncalled Sandra at Bank of America and asked her to cancel that check and reissue\na new one in its place, but she says that B of A has a policy of waiting for 90\ndays after a cashier's check is issued.  If the check is not cashed within\nthat time, they will cancel and reissue a new one.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

"Dad," he continued, "I told Sandra that I\ncan't wait for ninety days or I'll lose all of that investment in our <\/span>Alaska<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:State>\nhouse."<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

I called Della and Mary Ellen to come to the phone and\nthen said to Chris, "Son, we're going to command the angel of the Lord to\ngo and find, and retrieve that check and place it in front of whoever needs to\nhave it."<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Chris has seen us do this sort of thing before, and the\npanic began to die down in him.  "OK, Dad.  I'm going to send Chelsi<\/span> to the bank tomorrow morning and have her sit down\nwith Sandra to see what we can work out.  I'll let you know what\nhappens."<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Mary Ellen joined Della and me and we commanded the angel\nof the Lord to retrieve that lost cashier's check.  24 hours later Chris\ncalled again.  The voice on the other end of the phone was a radically\ndifferent voice than we'd heard the day before.  He was bouncing off the\nwalls.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

"You won't believe what happened," he\nshouted.  Chris proceeded to tell us just how effective that prayer of\ncommand was.  Chelsi<\/span> had gone into Bank of\nAmerica and sat down in Sandra's office.  Sandra is our longtime personal\nbanker with B of A, and when Chris and family moved from <\/span>Alaska<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:State> to\nSunnyside, we connected them together so that Chris could begin establishing\nbanking relations with Bank of America.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Sandra called Citi<\/span>-Mortgage with\nChelsi<\/span> in her office.  As it happened, the woman\nwho answered the phone was the person to the cashier's check had been\noriginally directed.  As Sandra described the situation to her, she\nresponded, "I remember receiving that check.  The problem was that\nwhen it arrived, the remitter was a Christian Carpenter.  (The girl who\nhad prepared the cashier's check for Chris had spaced it out when she was printing\nit and mis<\/span>-spelled the last name.)  For the life\nof me, I couldn't find any account in that name, and I didn't connect it with\nChristian Capener<\/span>.  I held the cashier's check\nfor 30 days, and when there was no follow-up phone call and we had no way to\napply it to an account, I put the check into the shredder and destroyed\nit."<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

She continued.  "Since I can tell you as one\nbank officer to another that the cashier's check is destroyed, you can simply\ncancel it and reissue a new one to the Capeners<\/span>."<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Sandra's face took on a look of both consternation and\nfrustration.  "Ma'am, Bank of America has a 90-day cancellation\npolicy.  I can't reissue the check until 90 days have passed."<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

You have the picture, I'm sure.  Sandra is sitting in\nher office with Chelsi<\/span> sitting across from her, on\nthe phone to the woman at Citi<\/span>-Mortgage who verifies\nthat she received the cashier's check, and then destroyed it after 30 days had\npassed without being able to credit it to an account.  Sandra is sitting\nthere, phone in hand, and suddenly the cashier's check appears on her desk in\nfront of her, INTACT!<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

She says to the lady on the phone, "Hang on just a\nminute."  She picks up the check, blinks her eyes more than a few\ntimes, then turns it around and shows it to Chelsi<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

"Chelsi<\/span>, is this the\ncashier's check?"  Chelsi<\/span> can't quite\nbelieve her eyes, either.  "That's it" she exclaims.  The\nwoman at Citi<\/span>-Mortgage in <\/span>Las Vegas<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:City> is\nhearing this dialogue and shouts into the phone, "That's impossible! \nI shredded that check here in <\/span>Las Vegas<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:City>. \nThere is no way it can be on your desk, intact, in <\/span>Sunnyside<\/span><\/st1:City>, <\/span>Washington<\/span><\/st1:State><\/st1:place>!"<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

But it was!  The angel of the Lord hadn't just\nretrieved it in its shredded pieces: the check had been restored and placed\nright in front of Sandra while she was talking to the woman who had destroyed\nit.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Was that a miracle?  How do you get a shredded check\nfrom <\/span>Las Vegas<\/span><\/st1:City>, <\/span>Nevada<\/span><\/st1:State><\/st1:place> to <\/span>Sunnyside<\/span><\/st1:City>, <\/span>Washington<\/span><\/st1:State><\/st1:place> and have it suddenly appear 1100 miles away intact?<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

I'll tell you what it was.  That's the angel of the\nLord doing exactly what he's been sent to do.  It was the evidence, the\ntestimony of the power and authority of the Lord Jesus Christ working in and\nthrough us as faith-speaking believers.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The end of that story was that Sandra cancelled the check\nimmediately, put the funds back in Chris and Chelsi's<\/span>\nbank account and then wired the funds to Citi<\/span>-Mortgage. \nProblem solved!  Not only that, Chris was given retroactive credit for\nmaking his payments on time.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Don't you just love the way God works?  Don't you\nthoroughly enjoy the blessing of His presence, and the way His Word works in\nand through us?<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Yup.<\/span><\/span>  You betcha<\/span>!  More to come, folks.<\/span><\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Healing is the gift of God.  It is part of the Blessing of Abraham\nrestored by the Lord Jesus Christ to and for all who believe.  Do not for\na minute think that sickness or infirmity is a blessing from the Lord.  It\nis a curse from Satan.  Jesus came to redeem us from that curse!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n

The Blessing of the Lord: it makes rich and He adds no painful toil and\nsorrow!<\/span>  <\/span>(Proverbs 10:22)  Be blessed!<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n\n
