ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: THE PSALM 23 ADVENTURE, Part 31<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Years ago, our youngest son, Joshua,\nwas in prison. He had associated himself with the wrong crowd as a youngster\nand found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, accused of the same\nthings his \u201cfriends\u201d were accused of.\u00a0\n<\/span>Guilt by association sent him to prison.\u00a0\n<\/span>There\u2019s a lot more to this story that I won\u2019t try to get into today but\nsuffice it to say that Della and I both had separate visions in which we saw\nJesus appear to him in his cell.\u00a0 <\/span>That\nvisitation caused a phenomenal transformation in him and in his character.\u00a0 <\/span>Both of us expected it to happen while he was\nin prison, and when it didn\u2019t, we simply gave it back to the Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Fast forward to today.\u00a0 <\/span>As already noted, Josh & his wife both\ngot themselves in trouble with the law and are currently in jail facing the\nunknown.\u00a0 <\/span>Josh called me last week just\nbawling his eyes out.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cDad, Jesus came\nand visited me!\u00a0 <\/span>It wasn\u2019t a dream, and\nit wasn\u2019t a vision.\u00a0 <\/span>I was reading my\nBible and just meditating when a very bright light filled my cell.\u00a0 <\/span>I looked up and Jesus was standing there with\ntwo Angels on either side.\u00a0 <\/span>He said to\nme, \u2018You don\u2019t need to be afraid.\u00a0 <\/span>I am\nwith you, and I will always be with you.\u2019\u00a0\n<\/span>The two Angels left his side and merged with me.\u00a0 <\/span>The peace was indescribable!\u00a0 <\/span>I don\u2019t know how to tell you how I feel at\nthe moment, but something really happened!\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Della and I both wept, hearing his\nstory.\u00a0 <\/span>The promises of God are \u201c<\/span><\/b>Yea,\nand Amen in Christ Jesus<\/span>.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>We look forward to seeing the promises and\ndestiny fulfilled in both Josh and Michelle.<\/o:p><\/i><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One of the biggest issues facing believers, going back to the first\ncentury, is knowing who they are in Christ, and who He is in them.\u00a0 <\/span>The lack of that confidence and trust in God\nhas been the lie of Satan ever since Satan seduced Eve with doubt in God and\nwho she really was.\u00a0 <\/span>Satan is the author\nof what we know as an \u201cidentity crisis.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When believers are robbed of their confidence and trust in the\nLord and in His Word to them, they are ripe candidates for being plagued with\nevery spirit of fear.\u00a0 <\/span>David puts his\nfinger on the problem when he writes, <\/span>\u201cYea, though I walk through\nthe valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In one fell swoop, he identifies both the Fear of Death and the\nFear of Evil.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ve discussed, at length\nalready, that period in our lives when restoration takes place, and the\ndeliverance necessary from the families of fear.\u00a0 <\/span>Now we get to see just what Holy Spirit has\ndeveloped in our spirits, our nature and makeup as this adventure in\ntransformation continues.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider how the apostle Paul describes our identity in\nChrist.\u00a0 <\/span>He begins this description as he\nopens up his letter to the Ephesians.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ephesians 1:3-6<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>Blessed\nbe<\/i> the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with\nall spiritual blessings in heavenly places<\/i> in Christ: According as he\nhath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be\nholy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the\nadoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure\nof his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us\naccepted in the beloved.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Before we continue, I need to address the true picture of this\nword used in the KJV \u2014 \u201cpredestined.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/span>The use of this word has led to a funny doctrine in the body of Christ\nknown as \u201cthe doctrine of predestination.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/span>That doctrine essentially removes our choice or involvement in the\ndevelopment of our character and nature in Christ, and who we have been\ndestined to become.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The word in the original Greek text in this instance is the\nword, <\/span>proorizo.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b>It comes from a root which\nliterally means: <\/span>to mark out in advance, to define boundaries, to make an\nappointment.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Nowhere\nin the use of this word is our choice or our ability to respond to God\u2019s\nchoices or purposes removed from us.\u00a0\n<\/span>Nothing in what Paul writes suggests that God has taken away our choice\n\u2014 that we are simply compelled to become whatever it is that He has chosen for\nour lives.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\ndoctrine of predestination essentially turns people into automatons \u2014 people\nwho obey robotically because they have no choice in the matter.\u00a0 <\/span>It also produces people who subconsciously\nrebel at the very idea that they have no choice in the way their lives are\ngoing to turn out.\u00a0 <\/span>They develop a \u201cI can\ndo as I want\u201d philosophy because it won\u2019t matter in the end anyway.\u00a0 <\/span>Thus, the Lord gets cheated out of the\novercoming Bride and counterpart that He has been after from the beginning of\ntime.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nsaid, consider Paul\u2019s prayer as he continues his letter to the Ephesians:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ephesians 1:15-23<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Wherefore\nI also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the\nsaints, Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;\nThat the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you\nthe spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your\nunderstanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his\ncalling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And what is<\/i> the exceeding greatness of his power to\nus-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he\nwrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him<\/i> at his\nown right hand in the heavenly places<\/i>, Far above all principality, and\npower, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this\nworld, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things<\/i> under\nhis feet, and gave him to be<\/i> the head over all things<\/i> to the\nchurch, Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nsee it, don\u2019t you?\u00a0 <\/span>Paul\u2019s prayer is that\nwe would be able to see, to understand, to have real revelation;: that we would\ncome to know<\/i><\/b>, first of all, who Christ is in us, and secondly who\nwe are in Him; and lastly, the true scope of our destiny, where we are in His\neconomy, and where that puts us in relation to the world, all that is therein, and<\/i><\/b>\nthe Enemy.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If,\nindeed, we know who we are in Christ, then it follows that we must<\/i><\/b>\nknow who Christ is in us!\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s one thing\nto know who we are in Christ, and the destiny He has chosen for us, but it is\nanother thing entirely to know who He is in us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nthe following:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Philippians 4:12-13<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>I know both how to be abased, and I know\nhow to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full\nand to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>I can do all things through\nChrist which strengtheneth me.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Here\u2019s\nhow we read this out of the Greek text:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201dI have come to understand and know \u2014 at the same time \u2014 what it\nmeans to be, (and how to be) humiliated, brought low (in the esteem of men) by\ncircumstance or accusation, as well as what it means, and to experience,\nexcelling in life, to increase in substance to the overflow, and to be admired\nand sought after by society.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In all that takes place in my life, I am constantly being\ninstructed and taught what it means to live in abundance, having every\nconceivable need met, and how to live when I need to \u201cpinch pennies\u201d while\nlaboring day after day;\u00a0 <\/span>thus, I know,\nand have revelation of how to have all or to have unmet need in my life.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The force of Christ\u2019s presence in me can do and accomplish all that\nis needed to be accomplished \u2014 no matter in what state I find myself \u2014 by\nreason of the empowering strength and endurance that He has imbued.\u201d <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(Philippians 4:12-13, <\/span>RAC<\/span><\/st1:stockticker> Translation and\nAmplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now,\nlook at the contrast in the statement that Paul writes to Timothy.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"<\/span>For God has not endowed, or\ncommitted to our being and existence the spirit (the very breath and speaking\nforth) of fear, timidity and faithlessness; but of miraculous power, might and\nstrength, and of agape<\/i> love, and of a disciplined mind (under control and\nnot subject to "flights of fancy")."\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(II Timothy 1:7, <\/span>RAC<\/span><\/st1:stockticker>\nTranslation and Amplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Take\na look at this from a different perspective.\u00a0\n<\/span>Writing to the Ekklesia in <\/span>Corinth<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:City>, Paul says the following:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So then, if any person is grafted into and immersed in the Anointed\nOne (and His anointing), he is a new fabrication -- a newly formed being; the\nprevious life [the lifestyle and the old characteristics thereof] has perished;\nyou can see and perceive for yourself that every part of one's being is an unprecedented\nsubstance -- a new species.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(II Corinthians 5:17, <\/span>RAC<\/span><\/st1:stockticker> Translation and\nAmplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Understand?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cEvery part of one\u2019s being is an unprecedented substance \u2014 a new\nspecies.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\n\u201cnew species\u201d exists, first of all, because the Lord Jesus Christ has been\nengrafted into our beings.\u00a0 <\/span>That begins\nwith our having been immersed into Him.\u00a0\n<\/span>(Remember what takes place with water baptism?)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

With\nwater baptism, we are immersed.\u00a0 <\/span>It is\ntantamount to the old \u201cus\u201d dying and being put into the grave.\u00a0 <\/span>When we come out of the water, we have been\nresurrected from the dead.\u00a0 <\/span>The life that\nis now in us is the light and life of the Lord Jesus Christ!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A\ntransition is underway.\u00a0 <\/span>Yes, we still\nexist in mortal bodies, but that mortality is about to be erased as we come\ninto an understanding of what it means to have the curse eradicated \u2014 both the\ncurse of death, and the curse of the Law.\u00ad\u00a0\n<\/span>The transition takes place in our spirits to begin with, but then\nbecomes a part of our minds, our thoughts, our reasoning, our emotions \u2014 and\nthen becomes the very substance of our beings.\u00a0\n<\/span>Hence, we are \u201ca new species.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>We\nhave become something that cannot come out of the <\/span>DNA<\/span><\/st1:stockticker> of unredeemed man.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\u2019ve\nused this before, and I\u2019ll use it again: we are now \u201cnaturally supernatural\u201d\nand \u201csupernaturally natural.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>At least,\nthat\u2019s how the world sees us.\u00a0 <\/span>Our\nbehavior has undergone radical change.\u00a0\n<\/span>Our lives are no longer subject to the curse of the Law.\u00a0 <\/span>Let\u2019s see \u2026. how was it that Paul put it when\nhe wrote to the Roman Ekklesia?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Romans\n8:2: <\/span>For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me\nfree from the law of sin and death.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And\nthen Paul amplifies this so that we can understand why we are not subject to\nthe law of sin and death \u2014 and this brings us back to what we are experiencing\nas we are being led in the Paths of Righteousness into the Valley of the Shadow\nof Death:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Romans 8:3-16<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>For what the law could not do, in that it\nwas weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful\nflesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>That the righteousness of the\nlaw might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the\nSpirit. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the\nflesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

For to be carnally minded is<\/i> death; but to be spiritually\nminded is<\/i> life and peace. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>Because the carnal mind is<\/i>\nenmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can\nbe. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>So\nthen they that are in the flesh cannot please God. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>But ye are not in the flesh,\nbut in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man\nhave not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And if Christ be<\/i> in you, the body is<\/i> dead because\nof sin; but the Spirit is<\/i> life because of righteousness. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>But if the Spirit of him that\nraised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the\ndead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live\nafter the flesh. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>For\nif ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do\nmortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>For as many as are led by the\nSpirit of God, they are the sons of God. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>For ye have not received the\nspirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption,\nwhereby we cry, Abba, Father. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>The Spirit itself beareth\nwitness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\u2019s\nso much embodied in what Paul is saying here, and I don\u2019t have time to amplify\nor re-translate everything, but I do want to deal with a few of these verses\nbecause they bear directly on our being led into \u2014 and through \u2014 the Valley of\nthe Shadow of Death.\u00a0 <\/span>Consider verse 5:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

For those whose minds and thoughts are oriented towards, and dwell\non, the desires and cravings of the flesh (along with the lusts that originate\nin the mind) are continually in pursuit of that which pleases one\u2019s rational\nthinking and satisfies fleshly desires; but those whose thoughts, whose\ndesires, and whose purposes are to measure up to the mandate of the Spirit,\nwill be in constant pursuit of that which creates and generates the fulfillment\nof the inner man. <\/span>(Rom<\/a>ans 8:5, <\/span>RAC<\/span><\/st1:stockticker> Translation &\nAmplification)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Pretty\nclear isn\u2019t it?\u00a0 <\/span>But Paul takes it\nanother step. It would make this Coffee Break much too long, were I to continue\nso let\u2019s pick it up here next week.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n
