Has it ever occurred to you just how\nsoon Jesus is returning for His people?  It is literally on top of us,\nfolks!  That is what makes our behavior, our attitudes, our<\/span>\nsensitivity to hear His voice and to respond of such a critical nature.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

As faith-filled believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we\nhave a commission in front of us.  That commission incorporates more than\n"Jesus saves"; it means we live our lives functioning in the grace,\nthe love, the power and the authority to demonstrate the gift that Jesus makes\navailable to the world around us.  It means we'd better have a whole lot\nmore than just words.  We'd better be showing who and what we are as\nChristians by healing the sick, raising the dead, cleansing the lepers and\ncasting out demons.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

OK?<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Well, that wasn't the way I expected to start this Coffee\nBreak, but it's what the Holy Spirit has been pouring into me, and I simply\nfelt the need to say that to you before we get on with our discussion today.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Anyway, Good Morning!  The Blessing of the Lord be<\/span> upon you!<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

My French Press is full and running over.  That means\nit's time to pour a cup.  Got yours yet?<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

This topic of angelology is a sensitive one for many\nbelievers today.  Although technically the word, "angelology,"\nmeans the study of angels<\/i>, for lots of Christians it\nrepresents the worship of angels<\/i>.  As any believer knows, we\ndon't worship angels.  At least we'd better not.  They're simply\nministering spirits sent by God to do our bidding as heirs and joint-heirs with\nJesus Christ.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

I quoted one verse from Psalm 103:20 in our last Coffee\nBreak that I realized needed some clarification.  That's the verse where\nDavid sings, <\/span>"Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that<\/span> excel in strength, that do his commandments,\nhearkening unto the voice of his Word."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

When we speak of having the ability to command angels, it\nis important to remember that they only respond "to the voice of His\nWord."  The Hebrew word translated "voice" is <\/span>kole<\/span><\/i><\/span>: which is\nbetter rendered sound<\/u>.  It's the same word that occurs in\nGenesis 3:8 where we are told, <\/span>"And they\nheard the sound of the Lord walking in the Garden in the cool of the day."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

So what is this "sound of the Lord" or "the\nsound of His Word" that angels listen and respond to?  Put very\nsimply, it is the Word which God has spoken to us by His Spirit<\/u> (that's\nthe <\/span>rhema<\/span><\/i><\/span>) and commanded us in His written Word<\/u> (that's\nthe <\/span>logos<\/span><\/i>).  The spoken Word to us is confirmed by what He has\npreviously said and is written in Scripture.  The sound of the Lord is\nthe Word of the Lord which we speak<\/u>, the same Word they've already heard\nand know,<\/span> that they respond to and obey<\/u>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The angels have already heard His Word.  They were\ndesigned to function in, through, by and with His Word for our benefit!<\/b>  <\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

So many folks today get hot and bothered over the very\nidea that modern-day apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers\nreceive visitations from angels and then speak and teach what they are\ntold.  I see some of the Christian writers and columnists in their opinion\ncolumns saying, "This is heresy!  They're supposed to preach the\nGospel."<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Hellllooooooooooo<\/span><\/span>!!!<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Have you ever considered that word, Gospel?  In the\noriginal Greek text, the word is <\/span>euangelion<\/span><\/i><\/span> --\nactually written <\/span>euaggelion<\/span><\/i><\/span>, but pronounced yoo<\/span> - ang<\/span> - ghel<\/span>' - ee<\/span>\n- on.  It literally translates as: the announcement or declaration\nof news brought by angels<\/u>; angelic tidings<\/u>; hence, good\nnews from God brought by His messengers<\/u>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

If the Gospel is angelic tidings from God, why are so many\npeople being stirred by the fact that angels continue to show up with messages\nfrom God?  It's not like they're delivering some piece of information or\ntidings or news from God that contradicts what He's already said!<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

When Roland Buck first began to share his experiences of\nangelic visitations nearly 30 years ago and said that the angels told him who\nthey were, I scratched my head.  I knew that Michael and Gabriel were\narchangels whose names were mentioned in Scripture, but some of these other\nnames didn't compute with me.   That left me with then considering\nwhat they were saying and comparing what they were saying to what God has\nalready said in His written Word.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

When I found no conflict and there was no check in my\nspirit from the Holy Spirit, the only conclusion left was that they were the\ngenuine article.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Bob Jones frequently talks about his experiences with\nangels, and shares their names.  One of the angels he has spoken of\nrecently told him that his name was "Winds of Change," and that\nwherever he was sent, he was empowered to bring change in the spiritual\nenvironment so that folks could and would hear and respond to what God is\nsaying.  That, folks, is<\/span> an angel who conducts\nwarfare on our behalf, defeating demonic powers who oppress God's people and\nblind them to the truth.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

This is not unlike what Daniel experienced when he was\nfasting and praying and seeking an answer from God concerning a vision he'd\njust had.  The angel of the Lord appears to him on the 21st day of the\nfast and says to him, <\/span>"Fear not,\nDaniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine<\/span>\nheart to understand,<\/span> and to chasten thyself before thy\nGod, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.  But the prince of\nthe <\/span><\/i><\/b>kingdom<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/st1:PlaceType> of <\/span><\/i><\/b>Persia<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/st1:PlaceName><\/st1:place> withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the\nchief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of <\/span><\/i><\/b>Persia<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>.  Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall\nthy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Get it?  This angel -- we don't have his name in this\ncase -- was sent by the Lord to bring an answer to Daniel.  He wound up\ndoing battle with demonic powers -- in this instance, the prince of <\/span>Persia<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> -- and the battle was so fierce that Michael the <\/span>Archangel<\/span><\/st1:place> had to come to\nassist.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

This is the picture that the apostle Paul draws in\nEphesians 6:12 where he says, <\/span>"For we\nwrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against\npowers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual\nwickedness in high places."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

I won't take the time today to render this from the Greek\ntext, but no picture could be clearer.  The battles we fight are not\nagainst people, but against demonic powers who<\/span>\nfunction through individuals, opposing everything of the <\/span>Kingdom<\/span><\/st1:PlaceType> of <\/span>God<\/span><\/st1:PlaceName><\/st1:place> and the\nLord Jesus Christ.  Angels are with us to fight on our behalf if we're\nwilling to see it, understand it, and command them.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Let's address this canard that the fearful and unbelieving\noften use -- and I used this illustration in the first part of this discussion\n-- Better be careful!  You know how easy it is to get\ndeceived.  Never know when they might actually be demons coming as\n"angels of light."<\/i><\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

First of all, contrary to popular opinion it is not easy\nto get deceived.  OK, let me qualify that.  It is not easy for anyone\nwalking and living in the Spirit to be deceived.  But let's take the two\nexamples in Paul's letters where he speaks of this.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

In his second letter to the Ekklesia<\/span>\nin Corinth, Paul first makes it clear that he has manifested and demonstrated\nthe Word of God when he writes, <\/span>"But though\nI be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been thoroughly made\nmanifest among you in all things." <\/span><\/i><\/b> (Here's a funny thing!  He describes himself as being\nrude in speech -- the Greek word for rude is: idiotes<\/span>\n-- idiotic!)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Then he says, <\/span>"But\nwhat I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire\noccasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.  For such\nare false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the\napostles of Christ.  And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into\nan angel of light.  Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also\nbe transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according\nto their works." <\/span><\/i><\/b> (II\nCorinthians 11:6, 12-15)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

First of all, Paul's reference to Satan's "ministers\nbeing transformed into ministers of righteousness" is not a reference to\nangels, but rather he speaks of those who pretend to be commissioned of the\nLord (the Greek word is <\/span>pseudapostolos<\/span><\/i><\/span> [a term\nfrom the Greek theater] -- pretend apostles, those who pretend that they've\nbeen sent by the Lord).  He refers to Satan as being the one who\ntransforms himself into an angel of light.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Put that in its proper perspective.  Isaiah (<\/span>14:12<\/span><\/st1:time>) refers to Satan as Lucifer.  The name, Lucifer, actually\nderives from the Latin -- a language not even in existence in Isaiah's time --\nand is a contraction of two Latin words: <\/span>lux<\/span><\/i><\/span> or <\/span>lucis<\/span><\/i><\/span> (meaning:\nlight), and <\/span>ferre<\/span><\/i><\/span> (meaning: to bear).  Lucifer, therefore, in its Latin\ncontext means: one who bears light, or light-bearer<\/u>.  But this\nword -- or name -- has an entirely different connotation.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The English word, lucid, comes from <\/span>lucis<\/span><\/i><\/span> and means:\nof bright or clear understanding; and the word <\/span>ferre<\/span><\/i><\/span> is the root to our\nword, ferry (meaning to bear, to carry, to<\/span>\ntransport).  That's your lesson in Latin for the day.   Hehehehehehe<\/span>...........<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The word in the Hebrew text of Isaiah 14, however, is not\nLucifer, but <\/span>heylel<\/span><\/i><\/span>.  That word comes from <\/span>halal<\/span><\/i><\/span> -- a word most often\ntranslated for praise, boisterous -- almost foolish -- dancing, to be\ncolorfully bright and to give light or luminance in the midst of praise or\nworship.  Both terms are musical in origin and usage.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The "angel of light," therefore, is a messenger\nwho attempts to teach, to illuminate, to communicate and give understanding\nthrough music.  The "light" that Satan transforms himself<\/span> into is musical in nature.  I don't know of a\nbetter illustration or description of the corruption of music in the world\ntoday.  I'm not going there today, but it takes no great rocket science to\nunderstand that much of what we call "music" today -- even in the\nbody of Christ -- is accurately described by Isaiah in the previous verse (11)\nas <\/span>"the noise of thy viols."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Now, lets<\/span> get to the next\nreference where Paul is writing to the Ekklesia<\/span> in <\/span>Galatia<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>.  As he opens up his letter to the Galatians, Paul\nsays, <\/span>"I marvel that ye are so soon\nremoved from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:\nwhich is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the\ngospel of Christ.  But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any\nother gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be\naccursed.  As we said before, so say I now again, If<\/span>\nany man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be\naccursed."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Then Paul clarifies what he means by "another\ngospel."  "For do I now persuade men, or God? or<\/span> do I seek to please men? for<\/span> if\nI yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.  But I certify\nyou, brethren, that<\/span> the gospel which was preached of\nme is not after man.  For I neither received it of man, neither was I\ntaught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ."<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Are you getting the picture?  Paul makes clear the\nfact that this "other gospel" -- even if preached by an angel -- is\nman-pleasing.  It is flesh-pleasing.  It does not present Jesus\nChrist as <\/span>"The Way, The<\/span>\nTruth and The Life."<\/span><\/i><\/b>  It provides\n"other paths to God" through teaching which is not\nthe angelic tidings<\/span> or news that God sent through Jesus Christ.  It\nrefutes what Jesus said when He stated, <\/span>"No man cometh to the Father, but by me."<\/span><\/i><\/b> (John 14:6)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Any "gospel" which does not preach salvation\n(the Greek term is <\/span>sozo<\/span><\/i><\/span>: deliverance, healing, safety, salvation, wholeness and\nprosperity) through Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ alone<\/b> is not<\/b> the\nGospel that the apostle Paul refers to.  Any "gospel" which\nshortchanges the whole truth of the Kingdom that Jesus presented and paid for\non our behalf and suggests that a portion of what Jesus paid for is neither\nrelevant for today nor available to us is demonic.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Any "gospel" which says that miracles are not\nfor today, that healing is not for today, that speaking in\ntongues died out with the apostles,<\/span> that God wants his people to live\nmeager, poverty-stricken existences instead of the abundant life that Jesus\nprovides; any teaching that sells Jesus short is demonic.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Understand?  We're talking about any teaching which\neither takes away from what God has already said, or adds to in the sense of\nrequiring people to take some additional steps in order to be\n"saved," or to receive what God has already provided through Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Go back again to what Paul wrote: <\/span>"There be<\/span> some that trouble you,\nand would pervert the gospel of Christ.  But though we, or an angel from\nheaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto\nyou, let him be accursed.  As we said before, so say I now again, If<\/span> any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye\nhave received, let him be accursed."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The allegation that the angelic visitations many believers\nare receiving today are spurious, or that they are actually demons coming as\n"angels of light" really is pretty far-fetched.  While there\ncertainly are instances of demons -- or more likely, Satan himself -- coming as\nan angel of light, there are no Holy Spirit-filled believers (and I accentuate\nHoly-Spirit filled<\/b>) who would buy into those doctrines.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Perhaps the most obvious instance of Satan coming as an\nangel of light in more modern times would be the case of the spurious angel, Moroni<\/span> (the name alone ought to give a clue as to his\norigin), coming to Joseph Smith and promoting a fistful of screwball doctrines\nwhich take away from the divinity of Jesus Christ, the price He paid for us on\nthe Cross, and the call to a personal and intimate love-relationship with Jesus\nChrist.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Angelology -- in its most obvious usage -- would be the\npromoting of an angel with a message that either supersedes or subverts the\nGospel of Jesus Christ with other spurious teachings.  Having\nconversations with angels -- such as those we've already talked about --\ndoesn't even come close to "angelology" or the promoting of\n"another gospel."<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

There's a whole lot more I could say on this topic, and\nmaybe we'll come back to it at some later time, but I wanted to touch on some\nof the current accusations that are floating concerning the move of God that is\ntaking place now.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Faith causes the intellect to see, the heart to hear, and\nthe will to respond.  Faith is not a substitute: it is the very substance\nof that which we hope for and expect.  Faith comes by hearing, and hearing\nby the Word of God.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The Blessing of the Lord: it makes rich and He adds no\npainful toil and sorrow!<\/span><\/i><\/b>  <\/span>(Proverbs\n10:22)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n
