Felicitations and Blessings!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Before we begin today, let me say that I've marveled at\nsome of the response to K-E XXXIII.  With a one-paragraph reference to\nTodd Bentley and the religious reaction to his personal problems, some folks\nhave taken personal offense.  Some simply reacted with a How dare you<\/span> call me religious<\/i> attitude, and even a few\nlongtime subscribers decided to unsubscribe from the Coffee Breaks.  I\nfeel badly for people who react like this.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Let's be clear.  In no way do we condone or support the alleged sins, nor<\/span> do we believe in mushy-gushy,\nsloppy Agape that whitewashes everything saying it'll all be OK<\/i>. \nIt's not!<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

At the same time, there is no place in God's economy which\ngives us the right to pass judgment on the man or to speak evil of him. \nNeither is there any place in God's Word which permits Christians to speak evil\nof the ministry Todd has engaged in or to demonize and call "demonic"\nthe miracles, the signs and wonders that took place with <\/span>Lakeland<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:City> I. \nThose who call the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of people who've been\ntransformed are themselves in danger of blaspheming the Holy Spirit (see\nMatthew <\/span>12:31<\/span><\/st1:time>-32); and in God's economy that's not forgivable!<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Whewww<\/span><\/span>!!  Didn't mean to get off to such a tough start like that,\nbut some of God's people are in serious danger with their attacks on people in\nministry, and it is incumbent upon me to call their attention to this error\nlest they suffer severe judgment!<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

So!  Pull up a chair, set a spell, pour yourself a\ngood, strong cup of today's Double-Roasted French, maybe even sneak a\n"vitamin" or two -- Shhhhh<\/span>.....don't tell\nDella I said that -- and let's get started.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

This may not seem like it has anything to do with <\/span>Lakeland<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:City>, but\nbear with me.  Back in the 1950's and 1960's, A. (Asa<\/span>)\nA. Allen was a healing evangelist whose tent crusades drew many tens of\nthousands of people.  The healing and deliverance miracles that took place\nwere nothing less than phenomenal, paralleling those of his fellow-evangelists,\nJack Coe and Oral Roberts.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

My father was a friend to A. A. Allen and spoke highly of\nhis ministry.  When the Assemblies of God (of which Dad was a part)\naccepted a police report that Allen had been arrested for DUI and subsequently\npaid the fine rather than contest the arrest, they disassociated themselves\nwith him and removed his ordination papers.  Dad was shocked.  I can\nstill see his reaction in my memory today.  When the news of the\nAssemblies' decision to disassociate from Allen reached Dad, his reaction and\ncomment to me was, "This was wrong!  Brother Allen is not a\ndrinker.  This simply cannot be!"<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

In fact John Torell<\/span>, who was A.\nA. Allen's associate and traveling companion for the last six years of his life\nwrote, <\/span>"<\/span>Bro. Allen drove\nfrom the motel in Knoxville, to the auditorium each night, accompanied by Bro.\nRogers, and one or two others of the team.  Since Allen did not eat before\nthe service, he stopped at a local cafe on the way, to have a glass of milk.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

This particular evening in question, he remarked to Rogers, "Rog<\/span>, that milk tasted funny"<\/i>. . . <\/span>Rogers<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:City>\nresponded, "perhaps<\/span> it was blinky<\/span>,"<\/i> meaning about to\nsour.  They then left the cafe for the meeting, and after driving a\ncouple of blocks, Bro. Allen told <\/span>Rogers<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:City>, "I\nfeel really dizzy, and think I'd better let someone else drive."<\/i> \nHe pulled over, and when he stopped, the media were there, accompanied by\nseveral denominational pastors, and the police. (What a strange coincidence!)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Allen was then "ticketed"<\/i> for DUI, and given\na citation and allowed to proceed. He went to the auditorium\n,<\/span> conducted the meetings, and in the following days newspaper, the\nheadlines screamed, "Evangelist Allen arrested for drunk\ndriving"<\/i><\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Allen and Rogers both told me this story.<\/span> . . and\nthat Allen simply "paid the ticket"<\/i> and went on,\nrather than interrupt the schedule of meetings. They both felt that the goal of\nthe "vendetta"<\/i> was to "stop the Allen\nmeetings."<\/i>  When the denomination demanded that\nAllen "stop his ministry"<\/i>, he refused, and "went\nindependent."<\/i><\/span>  That meant an end to the large "tithe" <\/i>they\nhad been receiving, so they continued to attempt to "blackball"<\/i> the\nAllen ministry.  <\/span>Torell's<\/span><\/span> entire report is available at (http:\/\/www.eaec.org\/TruthAboutAAAllen.htm<\/a>).<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Despite the Washington Post's (6-20-1970) lurid report of\nAllen's death "due to acute alcoholism and liver failure," the San\nFrancisco Medical Examiner's report stated (and noted on the death certificate)\nthat A. A. Allen died of a heart attack.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Why am I bringing this up, now?  Because it is\nillustrative of a feeding frenzy demonically driven to rip apart and destroy\nthose who minister in the realm of the miraculous.  I can think of no\nprominent miracle-preaching evangelist in the past 50 or 60 years who has not\nbeen ridiculed and attacked, and whose miracles of healing and deliverance have\nnot been questioned and supposedly disproven<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The same is true of the ministry of William Branham whose\nphenomenal prophetic accuracy and operation in the Gift of Knowledge has rarely\nbeen seen in modern times.  The miracles that accompanied his ministry\nwere nothing less than stunning!  Though I never had the opportunity to be\nin any of his meetings in person, I have seen several films and heard\nrecordings of his services.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Yet much has been written to discredit Branham's ministry\nin the years since his death in an auto accident.  The same is true of\nothers who have followed in the footsteps of Branham, Allen, Coe and Oral Roberts. \nMention these names in religious circles and see if you don't get some negative\ncomment or raised eyebrow.  What gets left out in the process is that\nthese men of God were just that: men -- fallible human beings whom God trusted\nand commissioned to preach and to demonstrate His power and authority.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Did they fail?  Did they have faults and\nshortcomings?  Did they miss it in some instances with their doctrinal\nunderstanding?  Probably.<\/span>  So what? \nWhy is it that folks want to focus on the shortcomings and personal failures of\nthose in ministry?<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The answer is simple.  Satan's purpose is to divide\nand conquer.  His objective is to discredit people in ministry, and\nespecially those who display the miraculous.  If a man or woman by faith\nwalks into the dimension of healing, creative miracles, deliverance from evil\nspirits, raising the dead and other signs and wonders, he or she is an\nimmediate threat to Satan's hold over people.  If there is any place of\nfailing in them, if there is any succumbing to the flesh in any area, you can\nbe sure Satan will pounce on it and make every effort to bring them down and\ndiscredit any miracles or deliverances that have been a part of their ministry.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

It is a sad and unfortunate truth that people in ministry\nfail.  I am celebrating my Year of Jubilee in ministry this year -- my\nfiftieth year of preaching the Gospel.  Have I failed?  Have I fallen\nflat more than once?  Have I preached error?  Have I missed it? \nI wish I could say NO, but the fact is I have failed -- and in a few instances,\nmy failures have been very public.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The beauty of it all is the grace of God.  What was\nit that the apostle Peter wrote?  <\/span>"Above all things,<\/span> have intense\nand unfailing love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins --\nforgives and disregards the offenses of others." <\/span><\/i><\/b> (I Peter 4:8 Amplified Version)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

We likewise read in Proverbs 10:12, <\/span>"Hatred stirs up contentions, but love covers all\ntransgressions." <\/span><\/i><\/b> (Amplified\nVersion)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The grace and mercy of God, and His love for me, have\nbrought correction into my life when I have failed and picked me back up when\nmy screw-ups have laid me out.  Though there certainly were brethren --\nand especially brethren in ministry -- who roasted me publicly and did\neverything they could to discredit my labors, the Lord surrounded me (and\nDella) with people who ministered nothing but love in the midst of God's\ncorrection.  My own personal failings and subsequent victory over those\nfailings has given me much grace for others in similar situations.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Let's look in that same chapter in Proverbs and consider\ntwo other verses as a preface to where we need to take this discussion.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

"The wise in heart will accept and obey commandments,\nbut the foolish of lips will fall headlong."<\/span><\/i><\/b>  (verse<\/span> <\/span>8 Am<\/span><\/st1:time>plified Version)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

"He who heeds instruction and correction is [not only\nhimself] in the way of life, but is a way of life for others.  And he who\nneglects or refuses reproof [not only himself] goes astray, but causes to err\nand is a path toward ruin for others." <\/span><\/i><\/b> (verse<\/span> 17 Amplified Version)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Back in June of this year during the height of the\nLakeland Outpouring, Dr. Peter Wagner (Revival Alliance) received a number of\nreports from ministers and ministries he respected concerning some questionable\nthings that were taking place in connection with Todd Bentley.  Though he\ndid not personally know Todd, some of his fellow-apostles and prophets\ndid.  They felt to approach Todd and see if he would be willing to submit\nto apostolic authority.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Though Todd's ministry, Fresh Fire Ministries, was\ncertainly a well-organized ministry, and he had a number of very well-seasoned\nbrethren (among them, Eli Miller, whom I've met in years past) on his board of\ndirectors, he had never personally submitted to what we would refer to as "apostolic\nauthority."  Todd agreed to Peter's (and Revival Alliance's) covering\nand submitted to their counsel.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Within a month, it became clear that there were issues of\nthe flesh that Todd was struggling with and things in his life that needed\nimmediate attention lest he become another in the long list of Satan's\nvictims.  No one wanted to see the Lakeland Outpouring become discredited\nby the Enemy because of Todd's personal failings.  Todd's family was out\nof order, and his personal life behind the scenes in disarray.  He was in\nneed of correction.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Peter Wagner, Che<\/span> Ahn<\/span> and other apostolic brothers told Todd he needed to\nstep down from Fresh Fire Ministries, that he needed to step out of public\nministry altogether and that Lakeland would continue without his\ninvolvement.  They required of him that he submit to counsel and that he\nand his wife seek to resolve their issues with each other.  Todd agreed,\nknowing in himself that if he did not submit everything around him would come\ncrashing down.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

As it stands today, Todd and Shonna<\/span>\nBentley are undergoing counseling.  Where it all lands depends on many\nfactors -- not the least of which is their individual responses to what the\nHoly Spirit is saying.  I believe they will come out of this all the\nstronger spiritually -- and wiser, to be sure -- as a result of receiving\nministry.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

In the meantime, despite the controversy, the Lakeland\nOutpouring continues.  Peter Wagner has labeled the Outpouring like this\n(and I agree): the Todd Bentley period is <\/span>Lakeland<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:City> I;\npost-Todd Bentley under Steven Strader's<\/span> leadership\nat <\/span>Ignited<\/span><\/st1:PlaceName> <\/span>Church<\/span><\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> has become Lakeland II.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

It is important to realize that just because there were\ndisplays of flesh during <\/span>Lakeland<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:City> I, and despite Todd's personal sins and issues behind the\nscenes, the Lord Jesus Christ was still honored.  Literally thousands of\npeople have come to know Jesus Christ personally as a result of the ministry\nthat went forth.  Thousands more received the baptism of the Holy\nSpirit.  And even thousands more received miracles of healing that span\nthe gamut of sickness, disease and infirmity.  There were more than 30\nrecorded instances of people being raised from the dead despite the naysayers<\/span> and critics who pooh-pooh the reports.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

As Rory and Wendy Alec at GOD TV have noted, <\/span>"Over the past twelve years, but especially since our\nlaunch in America, we have in obedience to the Lord searched through the earth\nfor those events and anointings<\/span> that the Lord has\nlaid on our hearts \u00e2€<\/span>�<\/span><\/span><\/span> to amplify their message and anointing to the Body of\nChrist in t<\/span>his crucial endtime<\/span>\nhour that we live in.  The Lakeland Outpouring with Todd Bentley was\none of those events. We received over 45 000 e-mails many, many of these heart\nrending, powerful testimonies from viewers across the earth of their bodies or\ntheir families bodies healed, their lives transformed and their hearts\nrevived.  None of us have ever seen such significant fruit in all the\nyears of broadcast.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Todd ministered each day as the revival continued but was\nconsistently and unrelentingly criticized, maligned, persecuted - the attacks\ngrew increasingly violent - and the heartbreaking thing was that so much of it\ncame from the Church.  At the same time, Todd was facing a second wave of\nattack. This was from the covens, the warlocks - we heard firsthand concerning\nsome of these assignments. The enemy had heard of the great honoring of the\nLamb and was determined to destroy it - BY ANY MEANS POSSIBLE <\/span>AND<\/span><\/st1:stockticker> AT ANY <\/span>COST<\/span><\/st1:stockticker>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

And the cost was Todd Bentley.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Was it because Todd was vulnerable and certain areas of\nhis life were not surrendered wholly? Yes \u2013 like so many of us - in all\nprobability.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Was it because the character of Christ was not yet formed\nin him in the equivalent measure to his gifting? Yes - like so many of us - in\nall probability.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Could it be the case that there by the grace of God go YOU\n<\/span>AND<\/span><\/st1:stockticker> I\u2026<\/span> Yes - In all probability."<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Both Della and Mary Ellen spent a week in <\/span>Lakeland<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:City> prior to\nTodd's departure.  As Della noted, she saw a lot of flesh on\ndisplay.  She knew by the Holy Spirit that there were things that were out\nof order.  When she saw Shonna<\/span> Bentley, she was\ngreatly disturbed in her spirit at what was manifested.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

More importantly, however, she saw tens of thousands of\npeople who were there for one purpose: to worship the Lord Jesus Christ and to\nreceive all that He has for them.  The spirit of worship in the place was,\nin Della's words, "like being in the very presence of the Lord Jesus\nChrist Himself."  The miracles were real.  The healings were\nreal.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

To refer to the Lakeland Outpouring -- and particularly, <\/span>Lakeland<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:City> I -- as\n"demonic" is to lose sight of the fact that the grace and power of\nthe Lord Jesus Christ far surpasses the weaknesses and failings of the\nflesh.  I would counsel all of you not to judge Todd harshly, nor to\ncrucify him on the altar of religious expediency, but to recognize that he took\non Hell itself and he was personally unprepared for what would follow. \nTodd and Shonna<\/span> Bentley, Fresh Fire Ministries, and\nall those who've been involved with the Lakeland Outpouring need our prayers and\nintercession.  They need our agape love in the midst of ongoing\ncorrection.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

They don't need for the body of Christ to kill them off\nbecause they've been wounded on the front lines of a vicious and ferocious\nspiritual battle.  The "church" has sadly been labeled as the\nonly army that kills its<\/span> wounded instead of picking\nthem up and ministering to them.  This has been the pattern of many\nthroughout the centuries.  I don't need to revisit the past other than to\npoint out that what has happened with Todd Bentley is no different than what\nhas happened with other prominent leaders in just the past 25 years.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

What should -- and MUST -- differentiate us from the rest\nof the world is what Jesus said, <\/span>"I give you\na new commandment, that you should love one another; just as I have loved you,\nso you too should love one another.  By this shall all men know that you\nare my disciples, if you love one another -- if you keep on showing love among yourselves.<\/span>"<\/span><\/i><\/b>  (John\n13:34-35 Amplified Version<\/span>)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

If you want to prosper in the physical, material world,\nyou must first prosper in the spiritual world.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The Blessing of the Lord: it makes rich and He adds no\npainful toil and sorrow!<\/span><\/i><\/b>  <\/span>(Proverbs\n10:22)  Be blessed!<\/span> <\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n
