with my commentary.&nbsp; It's a shame when\nfolks only see the commentary from a &quot;conservative&quot; or\n&quot;liberal&quot; point of view instead of recognizing the spiritual\nconsequences of our choices.<\/span><\/b><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><b><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:navy'>Although I am a registered Republican, and have been for all\nof my adult life, I am more constitutionalist than Republican -- at least from\ntoday's political perspective -- and that view is a product of having spent\nliterally hundreds of hours (perhaps as much as a thousand or more) in studying\nour nation's early history, the history of our founding fathers, and the events\nthat shaped their coming together to form a cohesive nation and create\nAmerica's Constitution.<\/span><\/b><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><b><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:navy'>Our Constitution was created as an anchor, a solid foundation\nfrom which this nation would function and govern itself for centuries to\ncome.&nbsp; Furthermore, it was created for the specific purpose of\nestablishing a place on earth from which the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ\nwould have free course.<\/span><\/b><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>Today's Coffee Break is partially a review of commentaries\nI've made over the years; it is a discussion on the consequences of the choices\nour founding fathers made., and a Biblical perspective on the consequences of\nthe choices we make today when we vote for various political candidates.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>With that as our introduction, pull up a chair, and let's\nget started.&nbsp; Both the <span class=SpellE>Expresso<\/span> Machine and the\nFrench Press are brewing with some of the oiliest, dark-roasted Columbian\ncoffee I've made in a long time -- and what an aroma!&nbsp; If you're anywhere\nclose, come on in and join me for a cup.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>John Adams, who was Vice-President under George\nWashington, and went on to become our nation's second President, made the\nfollowing comment concerning the Constitution of the United States,&nbsp;<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Gourmand;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\ncolor:navy'>&quot;it is religion and morality alone which can establish the\nprinciples upon which freedom can securely stand.&nbsp;&nbsp;<u>Our\nconstitution was made only for a moral and religious people<\/u>.&nbsp; It is\nwholly inadequate to the government of any other.&quot;<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#4A4A00'>John Adams' first cousin, Samuel Adams,&nbsp;(and also\nsigner of the Declaration of Independence) put things like this:&nbsp;<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Gourmand;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\ncolor:#00279D'>&quot;If men of wisdom and knowledge, of moderation and\ntemperance, of patience, fortitude and perseverance, of sobriety and true\nrepublican simplicity of manners, of zeal for the <span class=SpellE>honour<\/span>\nof the Supreme Being and the welfare of the commonwealth;&nbsp;<u>if men\npossessed of these other excellent qualities are chosen to fill the seats of\ngovernment, we may expect that our affairs will rest on a solid and permanent\nfoundation.<\/u>\u201d<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>Ever wonder how and where <\/span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span\n  style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\n  color:#333300'>America<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\ncolor:#333300'>'s founding fathers came up with such a concept?&nbsp; Well,\nhere it is!<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><b><i><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:maroon'>&quot;Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel,\nand God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou <span\nclass=SpellE>mayest<\/span> bring the causes unto God: And thou <span\nclass=SpellE>shalt<\/span> teach them ordinances and laws, and <span\nclass=SpellE>shalt<\/span> show them the way wherein they must walk, and the\nwork that they must do.&nbsp; Moreover&nbsp;<u>thou <span class=SpellE>shalt<\/span>\nprovide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating\ncovetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers\nof hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens<\/u>: And let them judge the\npeople at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall\nbring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier\nfor thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.&quot;<\/span><\/i><\/b><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\ncolor:#333300'>&nbsp; (Exodus 18:19-22)<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>There you have the plan for the kind of republican (not\nthe political party) representation that makes up the core of our nation's\ngovernance.&nbsp; When you read the history of our forefathers' deliberations\nas they contemplated the means to establish a government that would stand the\ntest of time, you find the Word of God at the very root of all their\ndiscussions.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>Folks, this is civil government we're talking about!&nbsp;\nThis was and is God's plan for the governance of a people under His\nleadership.&nbsp; The biggest lie that's ever been foisted off on <\/span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span\n  style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\n  color:#333300'>America<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\ncolor:#333300'> (and it began in 1947 with Justice Hugo Black in FDR's Supreme\nCourt) is that our Constitution somehow defines a &quot;separation of church\nand state.&quot;&nbsp; No it doesn't!&nbsp; Nowhere in the writings of our\nnation's early leaders do you find such a concept -- except when Thomas\nJefferson objected to the Danbury Baptist Association's intent to incorporate\ninto our Constitution and Law the doctrines of their denomination.&nbsp;\n&quot;Separation of church and state&quot; didn't mean separation of the government\nfrom involvement in church activities, in worship, or in speaking out on\nspiritual issues.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><st1:place><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\n Arial;color:#333300'>Jefferson<\/span><\/st1:place><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\nfont-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;color:#333300'> simply wanted\nto avoid enshrining in Law a church denomination as <\/span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span\n  style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\n  color:#333300'>England<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\ncolor:#333300'> had done with the Anglican Church.&nbsp; Because America was\nspecifically founded by&nbsp;folks who honored the Lord for the purpose of\nhaving one nation in the world where the Gospel of Jesus Christ would have\ncomplete liberty, and from where the Gospel could be preached throughout the\nworld -- without regard or preference to church denomination, nor restraint\nthereof -- Jefferson wanted to honor the intent of our founders.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>I quote from John Winthrop's charter of the Massachusetts\nBay Colony,&nbsp;<\/span><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Gourmand;\nmso-bidi-font-family:Arial;color:#353500'>&quot;...and for the directing,\nruling, and disposing of all other Matters and Things, whereby our said People,\nInhabitants there, may be so religiously, peaceably, and civilly governed, as\ntheir good Life and orderly Conversation, may win and incite the Natives of\nCountry, to the Knowledge and Obedience of the only true God and Savior of\nMankind, and the Christian Faith, which is our Royal Intention, and the\nAdventurers free Profession,&nbsp;<u>is the principal End of this Plantation<\/u>.&quot;<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>Once the charter was approved, Winthrop wrote in his own\ndiary,&nbsp;<\/span><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Gourmand;\nmso-bidi-font-family:Arial;color:#353500'>&quot;<i>We must be willing to give\nup our superfluities to supply others' necessities...We must delight in each\nother; make others' conditions our own; rejoice together, mourn together, labor\nand suffer together... So shall we keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of <span\nclass=GramE>peace.<\/span> The Lord will be our God, and...<span class=GramE>make<\/span>\nus a praise and a glory, that men shall say of later plantations, &quot;May the\nLord make it like that of <\/i><\/span><st1:place><i><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\n font-family:Gourmand;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;color:#353500'>New England<\/span><\/i><\/st1:place><i><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Gourmand;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\ncolor:#353500'>.&quot;<\/span><\/i><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>John Winthrop's son (John Winthrop, Jr.) was part of the\nfounding of the Connecticut Colony, and as part of its charter incorporated the\nfollowing:&nbsp;<\/span><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Gourmand;\nmso-bidi-font-family:Arial;color:#353500'>&quot;[We] do therefore associate and\nconjoin ourselves to be as one Public State or Commonwealth; and&nbsp;<u>do for\nourselves and our successors and such as shall be adjoined to us at any time\nhereafter<\/u>, enter into Combination and Confederation together,&nbsp;<u>to\nmaintain and preserve the liberty and purity of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus<\/u>&nbsp;which\nwe now profess, as also, the discipline of the Churches, which&nbsp;<u>according\nto the truth of said Gospel is now practiced amongst us<\/u>;&nbsp;<u>as also in\nour civil affairs to be guided and governed<\/u>...&quot;<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>I could go on and on with each of the original colonies,\nbut you get the picture.&nbsp; Our founders made specific covenants and choices\nby <span class=GramE>the which<\/span> their heirs and successors could\nlive.&nbsp; When <\/span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span style='font-size:\n  13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;color:#333300'>America<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\ncolor:#333300'>'s Constitution was finally formed, the choices and purposes of\nthe founders were incorporated in such a way that a nation &quot;under\nGod&quot; could grow and take shape.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial'>The consequence of their choices and decisions was the founding of a\nnation that has prospered throughout history like no other nation on\nearth.&nbsp;&nbsp;With the constant Blessing of the Lord, the United States has\nbeen the help of the afflicted around the world; we have spent more blood and\nmoney to lift whole nations out of repressive regimes and poverty than any\nother nation in history; we have been the defense of the fatherless and the\nhope of the needy; we have been the source of the Gospel of Jesus Christ being\nspread throughout every nation on earth.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>For something like two hundred and seventy years (1629 to\n1892) Americans clearly understood that this nation was founded for the\npropagation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.&nbsp; In 1892, the Supreme Court of\nthe <\/span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\n  font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;color:#333300'>United States<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\ncolor:#333300'> ruled,&nbsp;<\/span><i><span style='font-size:13.5pt;color:#192763'>&quot;If\nwe examine the&nbsp;<a name=constitutions id=constitutions>constitutions<\/a>&nbsp;of\nthe various states, we find in them a constant recognition of&nbsp;<strong>religious\nobligations<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><strong><i><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\ncolor:#FF0080'>Every constitution of every one of the 44 states<\/span><\/i><\/strong><i><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;color:#192763'>&nbsp;<\/span><span style='color:#192763'>(the\nnumber of states in the union in 1892 -- <\/span><\/i><st1:stockticker><i><span\n style='color:#192763'>RAC<\/span><\/i><\/st1:stockticker><i><span\nstyle='color:#192763'>)<\/span><\/i><i><span style='font-size:13.5pt;color:#192763'>&nbsp;contains\nlanguage which, either directly or by clear implication, recognizes a profound\nreverence for&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><strong><i><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\ncolor:purple'>religion<\/span><\/i><\/strong><i><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\ncolor:#192763'>, and an assumption that its influence in all human\naffairs&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><strong><i><span style='font-size:13.5pt;color:#6C2EFE'>is\nessential to the well-being of the community<\/span><\/i><\/strong><i><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;color:#192763'>.&quot;<\/span><\/i><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>After a rather voluminous examination of those state\nconstitutions, the Supreme Court ruled,&nbsp;<\/span><i><span style='font-size:\n13.5pt;color:#192763'>&quot;These and many other matters which might be\nnoticed, add a volume of unofficial declarations to the mass of organic\nutterances that&nbsp;<b>this is a Christian nation.&quot;<\/b><\/span><\/i><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>THAT, Ladies and Gentlemen, is what our nation's\nforefathers chose; and up until 1947 with Justice Hugo Black's ludicrous\ndecision, America prided itself on being &quot;one nation under [the Lord]\nGod&quot; -- NOT a Muslim nation, not a Hindu nation, not an atheistic or\nagnostic nation, but a nation where Jesus Christ was Lord!&nbsp; That didn't\nmean that Muslims, Hindus or followers of various religions couldn't have the\nliberty in America to practice their religious beliefs (atheism IS a religion,\nby the way; it just makes man to be God instead of the Lord Jesus Christ) as\nthey saw fit, it just meant that they did so cognizant of the fact that America\nwas founded and established as a nation where the Lord God was worshiped.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>Black's decision began the opening of floodgates with a\nrush of wickedness designed to overthrow our Constitution and deprive\nChristians of the liberties they'd enjoyed for centuries.&nbsp; How was it that\nBlack was even in a position to make such a striking blow against our\nConstitutional freedoms?<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span class=GramE><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-bidi-font-family:Arial;color:#333300'>Easy.<\/span><\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\ncolor:#333300'>&nbsp; It was the consequence of choices made by voters who\nelected (and kept re-electing) Franklin D. Roosevelt to the Presidency of the <\/span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span\n  style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\n  color:#333300'>United States<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\ncolor:#333300'>.&nbsp; Despite FDR's public acknowledgement of God and his\nleading the nation in prayer during the early days of <\/span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span\n  style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\n  color:#333300'>America<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\ncolor:#333300'>'s involvement in WW-II, he lacked a true foundation in his\nrelationship with the Lord; and further, he lacked the true Biblical worldview\nof our earlier founders.&nbsp; In order to pursue a personal political agenda,\nhe added more justices to the Supreme Court without regard for where they stood\non Constitutional issues.&nbsp; I doubt he could have possibly foreseen how\nfar-reaching his choices would be, and what consequences those choices would\nbode for <\/span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\n  font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;color:#333300'>America<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\ncolor:#333300'>'s future.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>This brings me to the crux of today's discussion.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>We can (and do) spar with one another over the subject of\nwhere a presidential candidate stands on the subject of abortion, how that\ncandidate treats the subject of marriage and family, and whether he\/she is a\npromoter of the homosexual agenda.&nbsp; Those issues are of critical\nimportance in choosing our nation's leaders, but of almost overriding\nimportance to all is how that candidate will choose the next justices of the\nSupreme Court.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>Will he\/she choose to appoint judges who will uphold the\nintent of our nation's founders, or will he\/she appoint justices who -- like\nHugo Black, and successors of his ilk -- reinvent the Constitution by judicial\nfiat and take away fundamental liberties that have made <\/span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span\n  style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\n  color:#333300'>America<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial;\ncolor:#333300'> the standard of the world?<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>It matters not what a candidate says he will do.&nbsp; The\nlife record must be the standard by which we vote.&nbsp; What track record has\nthe candidate established to back up his claims?&nbsp; Does that candidate have\na record of supporting issues which undercut our liberties?&nbsp; Does the\ncandidate have a track record of standing up for that which is right in the\nsight of God?<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>In the current crop of candidates, all of them profess to\nbe Christians.&nbsp; That means we have to look at what their lives have stood\nfor, how they've voted, who their companions in life are or have been, and\nwhether their words match their deeds.&nbsp; One is NOT a Christian simply\nbecause they say so.&nbsp; One is a Christian because he or she walks with the\nLord Jesus Christ and demonstrates the fruit of the Spirit in their life.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>The economy, the war on terror, immigration, issues of\npoverty and health-care are not, and MUST NOT <span class=GramE>be<\/span>, the\ndeciding issues upon which we choose our next President.&nbsp; Where the\ncandidate stands on the fundamental issue of the integrity of our Constitution\nas written and established by our founding fathers MUST be the most important\ncriterion.&nbsp; Where the candidate stands on abortion and homosexuality as a\n&quot;right&quot; under the Constitution must be a guiding factor.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>As Dutch Sheets noted in his letter to prayer\npartners,&nbsp;<\/span><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-bidi-font-family:Arial'>&quot;The scriptures teach that if we choose first\nto exalt righteousness and turn from evil, God promises to heal our land (see\nProverbs <\/span><st1:time Minute=\"34\" Hour=\"14\"><span style='font-size:13.5pt;\n font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial'>14:34<\/span><\/st1:time><span\nstyle='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial'>; We will either\nbenefit as a nation with the Blessing of God, or we will suffer the curse of\nour own disobedience to God's Word based on how we vote.<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n<p><span style='font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Garamond;mso-bidi-font-family:\nArial;color:#333300'>Della has an aging aunt who is so upset with the choices\nbefore her in this election that she has vowed not to vote for anyone.&nbsp;\nWe've made it abundantly clear to her that is not an option.&nbsp; There are a\nfistful of folks just like her across this country.&nbsp; There's a problem\nwith that stance.&nbsp; Not voting IS voting just the same.&nbsp; We are\nresponsible before God for our choices.&nbsp;
