Dutch Sheets is a brother in the Lord whom I first met\nsome 26 or 27 years ago.  He was already a man of great wisdom and\nintegrity in God when I first met him, and in the years that have passed,<\/span> he has grown into a prophet, pastor and teacher of\nsome considerable renown.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Today's Coffee Break is a departure from my normal writing\nin that I am using this forum to pass along a letter he sent out a couple days\nago.  Consistent with my past few Coffee Breaks, Dutch's letter is a\npersonal call to Christians nationwide to prayer for the Election this coming\nweek.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

October\n 20, 2008<\/span><\/st1:date><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Dear Praying Friend,<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

In 2000, I wrote the 2nd most important letter of my life a<\/span><\/span><\/span> call to prayer for the elections\nof that year. I'm<\/span> now writing what may be\nmy <\/span>most important letter.  I knew the importance of\nthose elections in 2000 was beyond any in my life up to that point and that the\nspiritual warfare surrounding them would be unlike anything any of us had ever\nseen.  That letter was read by millions of people and I believe millions\nof them responded by praying.  I also believe the prayers turned the tide.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

You may question whether President Bush was the right\nchoice; obviously, he has made some blunders in his tenure as\npresident.  But two of his decisions alone left no doubt he was God's<\/span><\/span><\/span> choice: Roberts and Alito<\/span>. \nThese two Supreme Court Justices have proven critical in the process of\nbreaking the hold of humanism, death and anti-God agendas that have ruled the\nCourt for 50 years.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

I assure you that more devastation\u2014the shedding of\ninnocent blood, immorality, decay of the family and an erosion of our godly\nheritage\u2014has flowed into our nation through that institution than any other\ndoor in America. Many times more.<\/span>  The\npoison allowed into <\/span>America<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> through their decisions is beyond any of our abilities to\narticulate.  The reality in <\/span>America<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> is that you don't<\/span><\/span><\/span> need to\ncontrol Congress or the White House to rule the nation. You only need 5 people 5\nout of 9 on the Supreme Court.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

And for decades those who disagree with just about\neverything you and I stand for have been in control!   In Bush\u2019s\ntwo terms, the process of turning this around began with the appointments of\nRoberts and Alito<\/span>. Now, we win some cases 5-4\nand lose some 4-5.  (We barely outlawed partial birth abortion. The\nvote of one judge saved thousands of babies from this horror.)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

We need one more conservative Justice for a consistent\nmajority, then more to build a strong majority.  In \nObama's<\/span><\/span><\/span> own words, the<\/span> next\npresident will appoint at least <\/span>one, perhaps two\nor more Supreme Court Justices.<\/span><\/span>  He\u2019s right.  Almost certainly two\nor more older, liberal Justices are waiting until after the elections to\nretire, in hopes of Obama<\/span> winning and appointing more\nliberals to replace them. And he certainly<\/span> would. He voted\nagainst the confirmation of Roberts and Alito<\/span>. So did\nBiden<\/span>. And Biden<\/span> led the\nfight against Justice Thomas several years back, another of the 4 solid\nconservatives.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Make no mistake about it, the two of them do have a litmus\ntest for Supreme Court Justices, and a major part of that test is Roe vs.\nWade.  McCain and Palin<\/span>, on the other hand,\nboth have very strong pro-life positions. This alone makes the choice for\nPresident simple.  To vote for the 2nd and 3rd most liberal senators\n(Obama<\/span> and Biden<\/span>), both of\nwhom are firmly and blatantly pro-abortion, would be unconscionable.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Obama<\/span><\/span> has actually said that if he wins, he would like his first\naction as president to be the signing of the Freedom of Choice Act, which would\neliminate every other law against any aspect of abortion (partial birth\nabortion, parental notification, etc., etc.).  And with a democratic\nmajority in the House and Senate, pretty much any legislation he and Biden<\/span> want to pass will be a slam-dunk.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

There are many other unrighteous positions they hold but\nthis position alone makes the choice easy.  If they win this\nelection, it will set <\/span>America<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> back decades in the cause of life and the restoration we\nseek.  Just as many of you do, I too, want to see a first black President,\nbut not Senator Obama<\/span>. To allow that noble and godly\ndesire, the economy or one\u00e2€™s<\/span><\/span><\/span> position on\nthe war to trump this issue of life and death for the innocent unborn is simply\nwrong.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The scriptures teach that if we choose first to exalt\nrighteousness and turn from evil, God promises to heal our land (see Proverbs <\/span>14:34<\/span><\/st1:time>; 2 Chronicles <\/span>7:14<\/span><\/st1:time>).  It is\nrighteousness that exalts a nation, not wealth, prosperity or armies. If we\nwill finish the process of removing the curses of death and anti-God laws off\nof <\/span>America<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> by electing a president that will continue to shift the Court,\nGod will grace us with breakthrough in other areas such as the economy, the war\nagainst terrorism, etc.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

My faith is not in a person, and certainly not a political\nparty, for the healing of <\/span>America<\/span><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>, but I know God's<\/span><\/span><\/span> word and His\nways well enough to know that our decisions do move Him to action or\ninaction.  Now to the heart of my reason for writing this letter (I\nrealize I am preaching<\/span> to the choir most<\/span>\nof you who know or listen to me are c<\/span>onservative\nenough to vote for McCain and Palin<\/span>.) I have not\nwritten any appeals for prayer concerning this election because:<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

1) <\/span><\/b>Others have, and<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

2) <\/span><\/b>I believe our movement has\nmatured to the point that the prayer base of the Church is already praying.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

But I now feel the need to raise my voice. I am appealing\nto you to pray for these elections the next two weeks like you\u2019ve never prayed\nfor any in the past.  Faithfully.<\/span> Passionately.<\/span>  Boldly.<\/span>  Ask\nGod for His mercy and grace.  We deserve His judgment for removing His\ninfluence and authority from our government, schools, homes and businesses; for\nthe killing of 50 million babies; for leading the world in the consumption and\nexporting of pornography; for passing laws to reject His; etc.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

But mercy triumphs over judgment and in His wrath He\nremembers mercy. In 2000 we actually lost the popular vote and won the\nelection\u2014talk about grace!  Please pray for this grace to be released\nagain.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

But I am also asking you for something more than normal\nprayer. For those of you who understand spiritual warfare, I am asking you to\nalso include this aspect of prayer. There is no doubt that we have entered a\nDaniel 10 moment in time: \u201c<\/i><\/b><\/span>Then he said to me, \u2018Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the\nfirst day that you set your heart on understanding this and on humbling\nyourself before your God, your words were heard, I have come in response to\nyour words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was withstanding me for\ntwenty-one days; then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help\nme, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/b> (Daniel 10: 12-13 NAS)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

The spiritual warfare in this election is incredibly\nfierce, and just as it was in Daniel\u2019s day, is all about the restoration of a\nnation. And also like Daniel, we must keep praying until we win the battle in\nthe heavens.  In August of this year I predicted that September would\nmark a shift in momentum for these elections.  This happened with the\nappointment of Sarah Palin<\/span> as the Vice Presidential\nnominee (who is a true Esther in our generation), but when the economy began\nits meltdown and the media ramped up their unprecedented attacks on Palin<\/span>, that momentum wasn\u2019t sustained.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

But we can see it turn again if we approach this battle as\nthe spiritual warfare it truly is and bind the evil forces involved (see\nMatthew <\/span>16:18<\/span><\/st1:time>-19). The reality is that this election can be the breakthrough\nwe need to fully shift the Court (and ultimately our nation) or it will be an\nimmeasurable setback that could take many years to reverse if<\/span><\/span><\/span> ever.  Please understand what I am saying: if we engage in\nthis battle and do what I am asking in<\/span> mass we<\/span> will win; if we do not, we\nwill lose. I, for one, don't<\/span> intend to\nallow the latter.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

I am in <\/span>Washington<\/span><\/st1:City>, <\/span>D.C.<\/span><\/st1:State><\/st1:place> now\n(October 20-22) with Lou Engle and a team of prayer leaders from around the\nnation to war for this election.  Join us!  Lose some\nsleep, miss some meals\u2014pray!  Pray like never before for these\nelections.  And as you do, involve yourself not only in petitioning\nprayer but also in spiritual warfare. Use your God-given authority over the\nplans and strategies of Satan\u2019s kingdom.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Bind all witchcraft that is working to control the\noutcome, including occultic<\/span> powers that are\nsuppressing truth. Release Christ's<\/span><\/span><\/span> Kingdom rule\nin every way the Holy Spirit leads you.  Don't<\/span>\nbe deceived and don't<\/span> lose hope (if you\nhave to, turn off the TV.) It is not too late to turn these elections. God is\nplenty powerful enough to do so.  The real question <\/span>is,<\/span> will we rise to the level of prayer\nand spiritual warfare necessary to release that power.  And remember,\nwe don\u2019t need a majority of Christians who are willing and able to do this \u2014\nonly a praying remnant.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

We can do it!<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

Here are some practical suggestions to consider:<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

1)<\/span><\/b> Fast (a meal a day; a day a\nweek; a Daniel fast; 3 days; 10 days; TV; etc.) and spend the time praying.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

2) <\/span><\/b>Agree in prayer with someone\neveryday for God\u2019s will to be done.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

3) <\/span><\/b>Form\/participate in prayer\ngroups regularly. Churches could pray every day.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

4) <\/span><\/b>Take time in every gathering\nto pray. (Take 15 minutes in every service to pray for the elections. Turn an\nentire service to harp and bowl style intercession\u2014worship and prayer\ncombined.)<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

5)<\/span><\/b> Join 2 or more on a conference\ncall and pray for 15, 20, or 30 minutes.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

6) <\/span><\/b>Pray on the way to work (and\non the way home).<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

7) <\/span><\/b>Pray before you go to sleep.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

8) <\/span><\/b>Pray before church services.<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n

9) <\/span><\/b>Ask God to give you His\nstrategy\u2014He will!<\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n\n
