Part 3:  WHERE THE SOUND OF OPPOSITION BEGAN<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Greetings,\nSalutations, Solutions, Felicitations, etc., etc., etc., ad infinitum!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nought to fire up your juices today!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Oh, and\nit is very, very dark-roasted Colombian in both the French Press and the Expresso<\/span> Machine today.  Come on by and have a cup\nwith me.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\ndiscussion has obviously stirred some folks -- so far not too many negatively,\nit appears -- and for people whose lives revolve around sound, whether it be\npraise, worship, intercession, teaching, preaching, or just sharing, this is an\nextremely important area of revelation and understanding.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We've\nbeen using this translation (mine) from the Greek text of II Corinthians 10:3-5\nin each of the past two Coffee Breaks and I want to start there again today.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"For\nthe weapons and instruments of our war and executed actions [against Satan] do\nnot have their origins and [weak, impotent] operation in natural flesh and\nhuman abilities, but they are skillful, potent and powerful \u2013 like dynamite \u2013\nthrough God to the demolition and extinction of all fortified and guarded\nplaces of opinions in opposition,"<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"Bringing\ndown violently and demolishing (to total extinction) all mental reasonings<\/span> and thought processes, and every mental barrier\nor arrogant and self-elevated attitude that justifies itself in opposition to\nthe knowledge of God; bringing into captivity and making a prisoner every\nperception of the intellect and every mental purpose or determination to the\ncompliance and submission of Christ and His anointing."<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let's\nalso review Paul's statements in his letter to Ephesus.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"For we wrestle not<\/u> against flesh and\nblood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the\ndarkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In order\nto get to the root of why Paul expresses himself like this, and why he uses a\nmusical term (esti<\/span><\/i><\/span>-pale<\/span><\/i> (from\nits root, <\/span>pallo<\/span><\/i><\/span>: <\/span>to vibrate<\/span><\/u>)<\/span> in Ephesians 6 in talking about\n"wrestling" we need to go back to Ezekiel's prophecy (chapter\n28:12-16) where he takes up God's judgment against what he refers to as\n"the king of Tyre<\/span>."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As\nEzekiel commences his prophetic discourse it becomes very obvious that he isn't\nreferring to the literal king of Tyre<\/span> but rather\nLucifer.  Pay attention to the wording and the phraseology chosen here.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"Thus saith<\/span> the Lord GOD; Thou sealest<\/span> up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in\nbeauty.  Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone\nwas thy covering, the sardius<\/span>, topaz, and the\ndiamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and\nthe carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets<\/span>\nand of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast<\/span>\ncreated<\/u>." <\/span><\/i><\/b> This terminology is highly significant as you\nwill see.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth<\/span><\/u>;\nand I have set thee so: thou wast<\/span> upon the holy\nmountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of\nfire.  Thou wast<\/span> perfect in thy ways from the\nday that thou wast<\/span> created, till iniquity was found\nin thee.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the\nmidst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee\nas profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O\ncovering cherub<\/u>, from the midst of the stones of fire."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now let's\nlay some foundations and then take a look at some of these words and phrases in\nthe original Hebrew text.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

1.<\/span><\/b> \nFirst Ezekiel describes him as "sealing up" (the Hebrew word for this\nis: chatham<\/span><\/i><\/span>: to make an end, to be the ultimate in perfection<\/span><\/u>)\nthe sum, being full of wisdom and perfect (kaliyl<\/span><\/i><\/span>: entirely\nconsumed, the finished product to exacting specification<\/span><\/u>) in beauty.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

2.<\/span><\/b> \nThen he notes that he was in the Garden of Eden with the Lord God.  This\nfits well when you realize that the Garden of Eden was a copy of what exists in\nHeaven.  Adam and Eve were originally instructed to "be fruitful, and\nmultiply and fill the earth."  Genesis 2:15 tells us that they were\ncommanded to "dress" the Garden (the Hebrew word is 'abad<\/span><\/span><\/i>: meaning: to work it like an artisan [who creates a thing of beauty]\nand cause it to serve you by growth and multiplication<\/span><\/u>) and\n"keep it" (shamar<\/span><\/i><\/span>:\nmeaning: to hedge it about, to preserve and\nprotect, to ensure its future<\/span><\/u> [so it is able to produce]).<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

3.<\/span><\/b> \nNext he draws this phenomenal picture of Lucifer's dazzling appearance showing\nhim as being covered with nine precious stones and arrayed in gold.  No\nwonder Isaiah refers to him as "Son of the Morning" for\nbrightness!  (See Isaiah 14:12)<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

4.<\/span><\/b> \nBut now we begin to get down to the nitty<\/span>\ngritty.  Now Ezekiel says that "the\nworkmanship<\/span><\/i><\/b> (the Hebrew word here is: m<\/span><\/i>e<\/span>la'kah<\/span><\/i><\/span>:\nbetter translated: employment, ministry, that\nfor which one is deputized<\/span><\/u>) of\nthy tabrets<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b>(ta.phaph<\/span><\/i><\/span>: tambourines, timbrels<\/span>, percussion\ndrums, percussion<\/span><\/u>) and of thy\npipes<\/span><\/i><\/b> (neqeb<\/span><\/i><\/span>:\nthis word has a double meaning and can be used to describe both a socket or setting for gemstones<\/span><\/u>, and\/or\nsomething which has been bored through, such as a flute, piccolo and the entire family of wind-instruments<\/span><\/u>) was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast<\/span> created."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In case\nyou haven't quite grasped the picture yet, Lucifer was created specifically as\nthe ultimate in beauty and music.  But the picture becomes even more clear\nin Ezekiel's next phrase.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

5.<\/span><\/b> \nTwice Ezekiel refers to Lucifer as "the anointed cherub that covereth<\/span>."  Three Hebrew words in this phrase\ndraw a picture that our English language fails to capture in direct translation. \n(a) The first is: mimshach<\/span><\/i><\/span>:\nwhich is derived from mashach<\/span><\/i><\/span>:\nand it denotes the anointing with oil.  In this application,\nhowever, mimshach<\/span><\/i><\/span> is the anointing that encompasses or overspreads<\/span><\/u>. \n(b) The second is the word k<\/span><\/i>e<\/span>rub<\/span><\/i><\/span>:\nwhich is transliterated "cherub" in English.  What gets missed\nin our transliteration is the fact that this word -- in the Hebrew, Syriac<\/span>, Chaldean and Phoenicio<\/span>-Semitic\nlanguages -- describes a being who guards and ministers to the Throne\nof God;<\/u> a powerful angelic being near to the heart of God. [The\npopular myth of the cherub being some kind of cute, baby angel is about as far\nfrom reality as anything can be.]  (c) The third word in this phrase\nis sakak<\/span><\/i>:to<\/span><\/u><\/span> entwine, to\ncover over, to surround<\/span><\/u>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We have\nthree words assembled in Ezekiel's prophecy which draw a complete picture of\nLucifer's ministry to the Throne of God.  All of them denote\n"covering," or "creating an envelope" around the\nThrone.  But that was only part of Lucifer's assignment and\nemployment.  His principal occupation was to minister in praise and\nworship.  He was the perfection of music and he was created specifically\nto surround the Throne and permeate it with the finest praise and worship in a\ndimension our natural perceptions and hearing are simply not equipped to\nunderstand.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Since\nLucifer was created as a being who would create sound -- the sound of worship\n-- we begin to see the picture Paul was drawing in Ephesians 6:12 when he uses\nthe Greek term for "vibrate" to describe the spiritual "wrestling."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We won't\ntake time today to explore all of this prophecy other than to touch on one more\ndescriptive phrase.  Ezekiel goes on to say, "Thou hast sinned; therefore I will cast thee as\nprofane out of the mountain of God." <\/span><\/i><\/b> The Hebrew\nword translated "profane" is chalal<\/span><\/i><\/span>.  Students of Hebrew will\nnote that this word is a minute variation of the word halal<\/span><\/i><\/span>, which we translate as loud, boasting, celebratory praise<\/span><\/u>.  The\nslight difference in the two words is the use of a diacritical mark which\nalters the meaning from "celebratory praise" to "profane\nsounds" or "corrupted praise" [or worship].  The\nHebrew chalal<\/span><\/i><\/span> also\ndenotes an arrogance or haughtiness.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It takes\nno great rocket science to see and understand that with his arrogance in thinking\nhe could be seated "upon the mount\nof the congregation, in the sides of the north," <\/span><\/i><\/b>(Isaiah\n14:13) (more on this in a minute) Lucifer's very arrogance corrupted the sound\nthat came forth from him.  It instantly became the sound of opposition to\nthe Throne of God.  It became a sound which opposed the anointing and the\npresence of the Lord.  Thus, he was cast out of the mountain of God (a\ndescriptive phrase often used to describe the Throne and the presence of the\nLord) with his corrupted sound.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The phrase\nthat Isaiah uses, "the sides of the north," is one which he borrows\nfrom Psalm 48:1-2 where the Psalmist describes "the mountain of His holiness"<\/span><\/i><\/b> and "Mount Zion, on the sides of the north."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I have\nshared this picture before, but very quickly let me say that as part of a\ntriumvirate of archangels (Michael and Gabriel being the other two named in\nScripture), he was privy to the counsels of God. When the Godhead engaged in\nthe plan to create a species of being who would be like God, imbued with His creative\nabilities, have the capability of free choice, be given the power of authority\nand dominion, and be specifically created and designed for fellowship and\ncommunion with Him, Lucifer -- as the one created being closest to the Throne\n-- became jealous and arrogant in pride.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Lucifer\nhad one ability and created purpose that the other archangels did not have: the\nability to create in the realm of music.  His whole purpose had been the\nsound of Heaven.  He existed for sound.  That God would overlook him\nand not choose him for this special place of intimacy and communion -- and\ndominion -- angered him.  He became rebellious against God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Ezekiel\ndescribes what happened to him like this: "Thou\nwast<\/span> perfect <\/span><\/i><\/b>(tamiym<\/span><\/i><\/span>: sound,\ncomplete and undefiled<\/span><\/u>) in all\nthy ways<\/span><\/i><\/b> (derek<\/span><\/i><\/span>: course of life, manners, mode of action or activity<\/span><\/u>) from the day thou wast<\/span> created,\ntill iniquity<\/span><\/i><\/b>(evel<\/span><\/i><\/span>: <\/span><\/i><\/span>: to distort, to twist, to become perverse<\/span><\/u>) was found in thee." <\/span><\/i><\/b> And\nEzekiel continues.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

"By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the\nmidst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee\nas profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering\ncherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.  Thine<\/span>\nheart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by\nreason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee\nbefore kings, that they may behold thee.  Thou hast defiled thy\nsanctuaries by the multitude of thine<\/span> iniquities, by\nthe iniquity of thy traffic; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst\nof thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in\nthe sight of all them that behold thee."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis a picture too lengthy for me to describe in any detail in this Coffee Break,\nbut let me quickly define a few of the key Hebrew words used in Ezekiel's\nprophetic discourse.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

He\nsays that because of the "multitude of thy merchandise" (r<\/span><\/i>e<\/span>kullah<\/span><\/i><\/span>:\ntrade [in music]) Lucifer was filled "with violence" (chamas<\/span><\/i><\/span>: to maltreat,\nto shake off, to imagine wrongfully) [<\/span>Note: the Palestinian terror\norganization, Hamas, gets its name from this word<\/span><\/i>) and that he would,\ntherefore, be cast "as profane" (we've already noted this word, chalal<\/span><\/i><\/span>,<\/span><\/i> represents "corrupted praise")\nout of the mountain of God.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

By\nnow, you will easily see the pattern in the kind of sound that now began to\ncome forth from the former Lucifer.  His trade (or merchandise) was the\nsound of praise and worship.  He twisted it, made it become violent and\nshaking and filled with vain and wrongful imaginations.  And now you begin\nto see the significance of Paul's statements in II Corinthians 10:3-5.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That\nhis name was changed from Lucifer (the illuminated one, the morning star) to\nSatan (the accuser, the one who wrongfully imagines evil against God's people,\nthe one who attacks) becomes very clear.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Once\nmore we come back to I Corinthians 14:10-11.  "There are [and seem to be] so many generated and\nvaried sounds in the world, and none of them is without articulated and tonal\npurpose.  If, therefore, I do not know or perceive the power of the sound,\nI shall be a moral and mental ignoramus to the one giving forth that sound; and\nhe that utters or creates the sound a rude and unlearned foreigner."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

No sound "is without articulated and tonal\npurpose."  No sound is without power.  It is the source of that\nsound that determines its tonal purpose.  It takes no genius to realize\nthat so much of the music (or that which passes for music) in today's society\nis the sound of Satan.  It is filled with violence. It is filled with\nhate.  It is filled with sexual innuendo, lust and enticement.  It is\nfilled with fear, doubt and unbelief -- all of which are Satan's.  Today's\nmusic is the sound of Satan's opposition to all that represents the Lord Jesus\nChrist and His message of redemption.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This next statement is not meant to offend, and I apologize in\nadvance for those who take it that way.  I have personally marveled at\nfolks who -- in ignorance of the purpose and power of the sounds Satan generates\n-- seem to think it is OK to take the sound (or sounds) of Satan -- add words\nwhich speak of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and think they are doing a good\nthing by "reaching the younger generation."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It is sheer deception to think one can use the sound that Satan\noriginates to preach the Gospel.  It compromises the Word and mixes the\nholy with the profane.  It treats the Gospel as "common" and\nordinary -- not life-changing, not the source of salvation, deliverance,\nhealing, health, prosperity and wholeness in every area.  It justifies\nusing the sound of hate and the "noise of thy viols" (as Isaiah\ndescribes it: 14:11) simply because "that's what the world listens to, and\nif you want to reach them you have to give them the kind of music they will\nhear."<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Will someone please tell me how you use the sound of opposition\nto the Gospel to preach the Gospel?  The Gospel of Jesus Christ isn't just\nwords you can put to any old sound!  There is an <\/span>onoma<\/span><\/i><\/span> to the sound (and that's where we will\ngo with our next Coffee Break).  No wonder Paul refers to this as\n"wrestling!"<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

That's not how Jesus did things, folks!  He came with a\ndifferent sound.  He came with the sound of life.  He came with the\nsound of Heaven.  Angels announced His coming with a sound that filled the\nskies.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When Jesus entered the sanctuary of the Temple and heard the\nsound of commerce and the selling of redemption, it stirred Him to anger. \nHe drove those who thought they could cheapen His covenant by selling it for\nmoney out of the Temple.  They were doing exactly what Lucifer thought to\ndo in Heaven: defile the sanctuary(ies<\/span>) <\/span>"by\nthe multitude of thine<\/span> iniquities, by the iniquity of\nthy traffic."<\/span><\/i><\/b>  There was no compromise in anything\nJesus ever said or did.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The Blessing of the Lord: it makes rich and He adds no painful\ntoil and sorrow!<\/span><\/i><\/b>  <\/span>(Proverbs\n10:22)  Be blessed!<\/span> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
