Part 2: The Power of Sound<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Good Morning, Good Morning, Good Morning!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

How you be this fine day?<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Coffee's on.  Mine's poured.  I'm just kinda<\/span> sittin<\/span>' here, enjoyin<\/span>' the wonderful aroma from those dark roasted\nColombian beans. Mmmmmmmmm<\/span>mmmmmmmmmm<\/span><\/span>............................<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

OK, Maury, I got it right this time: Colombian -- not\nColumbian!  We don't get our beans from some place on the Columbia\nRiver.  Hehehehehehe<\/span>...............<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Got a ways to go today, and we've got a lot to cover so let's\nget right to our discussion.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Some folks questioned the connection between the quote in our\nlast Coffee Break from II Corinthians 10:3-5 and "The Sound of the\nLord," and it may seem a bit far afield, but bear with me.  I'm\ngetting there.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Let's begin today with a look at something the apostle Paul\nwrote in his first letter to the Ekklesia<\/span> in\nCorinth.  As I did with the quote from II Corinthians 10:3-5, let me\ntranslate this passage from the original Greek text.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 As part of his teaching and discourse on speaking in\ntongues, Paul makes some rather revelatory statements.  Our English\ntranslations miss expressing the true sense of the Greek.  Take a look at\nI Corinthians 14:10-11.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"There are [and seem to be] so many generated and varied\nsounds in the world, and none of them is without articulated and tonal\npurpose.  <\/span><\/i><\/b>(more on this concept momentarily)<\/span><\/b> If, therefore,\nI do not know or perceive the power of the sound, I shall be a moral and mental\nignoramus to the one giving forth that sound; and he that utters or creates the\nsound a rude and unlearned foreigner."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Did you catch that?  The way Paul phrases this is that\nevery sound has tonal purpose!  Maybe that seems odd, but let's put\nthat in its proper context.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Go back to something that David did in his final year as King of\nIsrael, prior to turning the throne over to Solomon.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to\nthe service of the sons of Asaph<\/span>, and of Heman<\/span>, and of Jeduthun<\/span>, who\nshould prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals:" <\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/i><\/b>(I Chronicles 25:1)<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

The Hebrew word translated "prophesy" in this instance\nis <\/span><\/b>naba<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>'<\/span><\/i><\/b>: <\/span><\/b>to sing, to create a\ndeclarative sound<\/span><\/u><\/b>.  In this command of David, he instructs Asaph<\/span>, Heman<\/span> and Jeduthun<\/span> (the three heads of families who have spent the\npast 33 years in continuous praise and worship around the Tabernacle of David)\nto alter their function and purpose in praise.  Instead of simply offering\nup praise and worship, now they are to prophesy with their instruments.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

How, pray tell, do you prophesy upon an instrument?  If you\nunderstand the power of sound -- especially under the anointing of the Holy\nSpirit -- you begin to realize that vast, creative power and authority is at\nyour fingertips.  David clearly understood this when he sang,<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/i><\/b>"Blessed be the\nLord my strength, which teacheth<\/span> my hands to war, and\nmy fingers to fight."<\/span><\/i><\/b>  (Psalm 144:1)<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

How was David using his hands to war?  Simple.  On his\nharp.  On whatever instrument he played.  His fingers were engaged in\nthe fight in and by the way they plucked the strings.  The sounds that\ncame forth were prophetic.  These were tones -- musical notes -- that had\nspecific meaning and purpose.  They had the authority and power of Heaven\nitself backing them.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Sound, all by itself, carries a certain power with it. \nPerhaps you've been to a large gathering where folks have been praising and\nworshiping.  Let's take the Lakeland Outpouring as an example where Roy\nFields would camp on certain notes on his synthesizer keyboard.  If it\nseemed repetitious and boring, that's only because you didn't understand that\nhe was prophesying with certain tones or notes.  The sound of the Lord was\ngoing forth.  The Holy Spirit was sending forth a sound that literally was\ncausing the gates of Hell to shake.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Let me illustrate this another way.  Most folks have seen\nit in person or at least seen a televised demonstration where an opera singer\nwill hit a certain note.  As she holds the note, glass shatters. \nCrystal flies apart and disintegrates with the force of the sound.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

How does that happen?  The note hits a certain frequency\nand resonance.  The glass is susceptible to that frequency and begins to\nvibrate harmonically.  The harmonic vibrations cause the molecular\nstructure of the glass or crystal to come apart and lose their cohesiveness.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

That's in the natural or visible realm.  That's a small\nsample of what happens in the realm of the spirit.  Sound -- ALL SOUND --\nhas a force and power behind it.  You may think I'm going too far with\nthis illustration, but go back to what Paul wrote, <\/span><\/b>"none of {the\nsounds] are without articulated and tonal purpose."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Let's take this illustration forward to something Paul wrote to\nthe Ephesians. (5:18-19)<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled\nwith the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in Psalms and hymns and spiritual\nsongs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

The Greek word translated here "making melody in your\nheart" is: <\/span><\/b>psallo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>: <\/span><\/b>to twitch, to pluck,\nto twang, to rub the surface of strings<\/span><\/u><\/b>.  And the\nGreek text expresses it more accurately "with" (your heart) rather\nthan "in."  Thus one's heart is absolutely in the sound.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

I will also remind you of the statement in Ephesians 6 where\nPaul writes, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood...." and the\nword used is <\/span><\/b>esti<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>-pale<\/span><\/i><\/b> (<<\/span><\/b>pallo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>), meaning: <\/span><\/b>to vibrate; to create\na sound in opposition<\/span><\/u><\/b> [to that of the Enemy]. \nAre you beginning to see the picture?  Do you now understand that we as\nsons and daughters of the Most High have within our beings the Sound of the\nLord -- a sound and tonal quality which opposes [and has the authority, ability\nand power to destroy the sound of Satan?<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

For those folks who understand the power of the sound in the\nrealm of the Spirit, we have the ability to cause to disintegrate the thrones\nwhere Satan rules.  The Sound of the Lord going forth through us causes\nthe molecular structure (you'll pardon me for expressing it like this) of\nSatan's strongholds to be broken.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Let me take Paul's statement here and put it into the overall\ncontext of what he is saying.  Go back to Ephesians 5:8-13.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the\nLord: walk as children of light:" <\/span><\/i><\/b> (Remember the\nsound\/light\/life illustration in our last Coffee Break?)<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord."<\/span><\/i><\/b>  How do you\nprove what is acceptable to the Lord?  Easy.  With the Sound of the\nLord.  Take a look at the next verse.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of\ndarkness, but rather reprove them."<\/span><\/i><\/b>  THERE'S your\ncommand to "vibrate" in opposition to the sound of the Enemy. \nYou reprove, you expose, you make visible and apparent for all to see, and you\ndo so with the Sound of the Lord, <\/span><\/b>"speaking to yourselves in Psalms\nand hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the\nLord." <\/span><\/i><\/b> Music, you see, is the communication -- the sound,\nthe tones, a language, if you will -- of the spirit.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

OK, OK!  I know I've applied these verses a bit differently\nthan you may have been previously taught -- and they do have other applications\n-- but it is perfectly appropriate to apply Paul's instruction within the\ncontext of the Sound of the Lord.  We'll come back to this application\nshortly.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Now let's revisit II Corinthians 10.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"For the weapons and instruments of our war and executed\nactions [against Satan] do not have their origins and [weak, impotent]\noperation in natural flesh and human abilities, but they are skillful, potent\nand powerful \u2013 like dynamite \u2013 through God to the demolition and extinction of\nall fortified and guarded places of opinions in opposition,"  <\/span><\/i><\/b> Yup. \nThe weapons of our warfare ARE skillful, potent and powerful -- especially when\nwe understand that the Sound of the Lord available in and through us is the\nmeans by which we wield those weapons.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"Bringing down violently and demolishing (to total\nextinction) all mental reasonings<\/span> and thought\nprocesses, and every mental barrier or arrogant and self-elevated attitude that\njustifies itself in opposition to the knowledge of God; bringing into captivity\nand making a prisoner every perception of the intellect and every mental\npurpose or determination to the compliance and submission of Christ and His\nanointing."<\/i><\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Yessir<\/span><\/b><\/span>!  The Sound\nof the Lord does just that!  You don't simply think other thoughts in\norder to deal with thoughts and mental reasonings<\/span>:\nyou only demolish thoughts and human rationale with the Sound of the Lord --\nwhether that sound be the speaking forth -- the rhema<\/span>\n-- of the Word, whether that sound be singing in the Spirit, or whether that\nsound literally be tones or notes that come forth from your voice or an\ninstrument in your hands.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

My friends, it's time for the people of God to wake up and\nrecognize how simple and yet how elegant the authority and power of God is in\nus and to exercise it against Satan.  This is not a fantasy.  This is\nlife.  This is light!  This is the Sound of the Lord!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

I said this before and I'll say it again.  \nSound.  Light.  Life.  They are inseparable.  They go\ntogether.  You can't have one without the other.  Light exists\nbecause of sound.  Sound exists with light.  Life is both light and\nsound.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

There's another side of this that perhaps you've begun to see as\nwell in this midst of this discussion.  Darkness has a sound.  Satan\nhas a sound.  Satan's whole existence is sound, and it is a sound that is\ninferior to and subject to the Sound of the Lord.  What is his\nsound?  The sound of doubt.  The sound of fear.  The sound of\nunbelief.  The sound of questioning.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

We expose, we reprove, we make evident and we chase the sound of\nthe Enemy with the Sound of the Lord.  Let me take you back to an example\nin the life of Israel in Moses' time.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 68:1 opens with, <\/span><\/b>"Let God arise,\nlet His enemies be scattered: let them also that hate Him flee before\nHim."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

What is not obvious in this King James Version translation is\nthe fact that this was a cry that went forth every time Israel began to\nmove.  The cloud which was the manifestation of the presence of the Lord\nGod in their midst would begin to lift from the top of the Tabernacle\nindicating that God was ready to move His people onward.  A cry would go\nforth at Moses' command that could be heard throughout all of tribes of\nIsrael.  (See also Numbers 10:35)<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Long shofars<\/span> would be blown like giant\ntrumpets and men with strong voices would shout from the highest elevations\navailable, "God is arising!  God is arising!  Let His\nenemies be scattered!  Let His enemies be scattered!  Let all those\nthat hate Him flee before Him.  Let all those that hate Him flee before\nHim."<\/i><\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Then the cry would ring across the countryside until all heard\nit and began to move.  It was a sound that the heathen inhabitants of the\nland came to fear and dread.  Because God had so defended His people\nduring their years in the wilderness and the stories of His mighty deliverance\nof Israel from Egypt, the parting of the Red Sea, the annihilation of Pharaoh's\narmies and other such victories had spread throughout the nations of the\nregion, that sound generated great fear among God's foes.  There was a\npower in it that defied description.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Many of you are familiar with the event recounted in II\nChronicles 20 during the time that Jehoshaphat was King of Judah.  The\narmies of Moab and Ammon<\/span>, coupled with an army from Idumaea<\/span> (the Edomites<\/span>), came\nagainst Judah, outnumbering the armies of Judah by some estimates as much as a\nhundred to one.  Following a period of fasting and a prophetic word given\nby Jahaziel<\/span>, a descendant of Asaph<\/span>\n(one of the three principal singing and praising families), Jehoshaphat sent\nout the praisers<\/span> and worshipers before the armies as\nthey headed to Engedi<\/span>, the site of the expected\nbattle.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

II Chronicles 20:21-22 tells us, <\/span><\/b>"And when he\n[Jehoshaphat] had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the\nLORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before\nthe army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth<\/span>\nfor ever. And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments<\/span><\/u> against the children of Ammon<\/span>, Moab, and mount Seir<\/span>,\nwhich were come against Judah; and they were smitten."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

But this was no ordinary destruction of the enemy.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"For the children of Ammon<\/span> and\nMoab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir<\/span>,\nutterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the\ninhabitants of Seir<\/span>, every one helped to\ndestroy another<\/u>.  And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the\nwilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies\nfallen to the earth, and none escaped<\/u>."<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

This was total annihilation of the enemy.  Not one single\nsoldier of Moab, Ammon<\/span> or Mount Seir<\/span>\ncame out of it alive.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

This was the Sound of the Lord at work!  In the midst of\nthe sound of God's people praising and glorifying Him, the Lord "set ambushments<\/span>" in the midst of the enemy's camp. \n(Just as a side note, the Hebrew word which describes this is: <\/span><\/b>'arab<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b>:  In its\nvarious forms, this word (from whence we get the modern "Arab")\nmeans: <\/span><\/b>to lie in wait, to lurk, to ambush, ambusher, an ambuscade<\/span><\/u><\/b>.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

The Scripture does not indicate where God got these\n"ambushers" and we don't know whether they were Moabites, Ammonites,\nor Edomites<\/span> panicked by extreme fear, or what, but\nthe Sound of the Lord coming forth from the singers and praisers<\/span>\nwas strong enough to trigger self-destruction among the enemies of God's\npeople.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

What we've just described is a tiny drop in the bucket of the\npower that goes forth in the Sound of the Lord.<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Next: Where the Sound of Opposition Began (and why Paul\ndescribes it as "wrestling" in Ephesians 6).<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Things are not what they seem to be: they're what God says<\/u> they\nare.  The sound of His Word going forth is what determines the difference\nbetween light and darkness, life and death, health or sickness and disease,\npoverty or prosperity.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

The Blessing of the Lord: it makes rich and He adds no painful\ntoil and sorrow!<\/span><\/i><\/b>  <\/span><\/b>(Proverbs\n10:22)  Be blessed!<\/span><\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n
