Part 1: INTRODUCING THE CONCEPT<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Great getting' up mornin<\/span>' to ye, Folks!  Blessin's<\/span>\non Ye!<\/span><\/b>

\n<\/span><\/b>There, how's that\nfor a good morning greeting.  Awwww<\/span>, well...\nAnyway...grab that fresh cup of coffee from your French Press coffee maker, or\nthat cup of super hot Expresso<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Maybe you've been wondering when we're going to finish the\ndiscussion on Kingdom Economics -- and really, I thought I'd get back to it\nbefore this -- but it looks like it will wait and resume after the first of the\nyear.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

It was nearly four years ago that I published a series of\nCoffee Breaks titled, "The Science and Spirit of Sound."  That\nCoffee Break series was predicated in large part on an earlier <\/span><\/b>OPEN\nLETTER TO THE EKKLESIA<\/span><\/i><\/b> I\nhad written and distributed back in the mid-1990's in which I dealt with the\nsignificance of sound and the spiritual force behind it.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Many of you know that I've had a long background in\nengineering and research, and -- for a period of several years -- in the field\nof audio research.  Got to thinking about it this morning and realized\nthat I was probably around seventeen years of age when I first began seriously\nexperimenting in the field of acoustics, playing with loudspeaker cabinet\ndesign and acoustic-wave theory.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

My audio research continued on through some of my college\nyears and beyond, and in the mid-to-late 1960's a former college buddy, Allen\nParker, and I formed an acoustic research company -- Alpac<\/i><\/span>\nAudio<\/i>.  We developed together what we referred to as\n"3-Dimensional Sound" -- an early predecessor to today's Dolby\nSurround -- and traveled around the country introducing the concept to various\nmanufacturers.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"3-Dimensional Sound" was actually achieved with\nonly two, albeit perfectly balanced and accurately phased loudspeakers. \nWe were able to create a soundstage far wider than the speaker placement and\nreproduce the sounds which appeared to be coming out of thin air where no\nspeakers existed.  I won't get into the technical issues or specs on the\nsystem because that's not what this Coffee Break is about.  I simply share\nthis as a foundation for where I want to take this (and perhaps one or more\nadditional Coffee Breaks) discussion and to perhaps establish a basis in both\nscientific fact and spiritual law.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

As a lifelong musician and recording engineer, sound has\nbeen an integral part of my life.  At least nine out of every ten\nmornings, I will a waken with the sound of Heaven flowing through my spirit\nwith new music.  It is and has been perhaps the most actively creative\npart of my life.  (Some people think it is my writing, but that's just\nbecause they haven't been around me much.  (Grin.)<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Della is likewise creative when it comes to music. \nThere are many times when she sits down at the synthesizer keyboard, closes her\neyes, and just begins to worship as the Spirit of the Lord flows through her\nwith new sounds and new words.  We flow together this way.  But there\nis purpose and direction in the sound that comes forth.  Between the two\nof us, the Holy Spirit has given hundreds of new songs -- Psalms (set to new\nmusic), Hymns, and Spiritual Songs -- more than a few of which have become part\nof the repertoire of praise and worship in churches around the world.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

We understand that literally everything God ever created\nbegan with the sound of His voice.  We also understand that we've been\ncreated in His image and likeness and imbued with His same creative ability.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Our world today has so corrupted and contaminated sound\nthat we've lost sight -- and in large part, the creative use -- of the ability\nGod gave us.  We are surrounded with so much sound it has become\ncacophonous.  It is nothing but destructive noise!<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

We turn on the television and get bombarded with every\nkind of sound -- most of it (as noted in previous Coffee Breaks) designed to\nentice, persuade and manipulate us into believing things that are not true,\nhave no life, and deceive us into committing sin, buying something we don't\nneed or want, or wasting time in unproductive endeavors.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Why is this?  What has happened to the human\nrace?  More than that, what has happened that the Body of Christ has so\nlost sight (and use) of the gift of God He has made available to us through\nJesus Christ?<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

I've shared this personal translation of the Greek text of\nII Corinthians 10:3-5 before but let me refresh you.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"For though we live, deport and\ncomport ourselves by that which we see, hear, taste, smell and touch, we do not\ncontend with, war after and execute military strategies [against Satan] by that\nwhich we see and hear, know intellectually, or have opinions of:For<\/span> the weapons and instruments of our war and executed\nactions [against Satan] do not have their origins and [weak, impotent]\noperation in natural flesh and human abilities, but they are skillful, potent\nand powerful \u2013 like dynamite \u2013 through God to the demolition and extinction of\nall fortified and guarded places of opinions in opposition,<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"Bringing down violently and demolishing (to total\nextinction) all mental reasonings<\/span> and thought\nprocesses, and every mental barrier or arrogant and self-elevated attitude that\njustifies itself in opposition to the knowledge of God; bringing into captivity\nand making a prisoner every perception of the intellect and every mental\npurpose or determination to the compliance and submission of Christ and His\nanointing [in the same way that He complied with the will and desire of the\nFather]."<\/i><\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Now, let's put that together with Ephesians 6:12. \nThe KJV reads like this: <\/span><\/b>"For we\nwrestle not<\/u> against flesh and blood, but against principalities,\nagainst powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against\nspiritual wickedness in high places."<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 The phrase, "we wrestle not" is an\nextraordinary phrase in the Greek text.  The Greek uses a musical term --\nor more accurately, a conjunctive word which denotes "sound," <\/span><\/b>esti<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>-pale<\/span><\/i><\/b> (from\nits root, <\/span><\/b>pallo<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>).  This word more literally translates: <\/span><\/b>to vibrate<\/span><\/u><\/b>; and\nit draws a picture of two sounds in opposition to each other.  The\nwrestling, literally, is the opposition of the sounds of Satan against the\nsound of the Lord.  (We'll come back to this, momentarily.)<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

From a purely scientific perspective, all energy beginning\nat 0 cycles per second (or hertz) and increasing in frequency through the audio\nspectrum, the sub-RF and RF spectrums, electro-magnetic energy, HF, VHF, UHF,\nMicrowave and beyond into the realm of visible and invisible light -- all of it\n-- is sound-based.  If we had ears that could hear at those frequencies,\nwe could hear light.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

I was just thinking back to a discussion I had with a\nCanadian astrophysicist in 1994 when the comet, Shoemaker-Levy, after breaking\napart, struck the planet Jupiter 21 times over a period of seven days.  He\nnoted that -- were it possible for sound to travel in space -- this event\ncreated a series of low-frequency electro-magnetic shock waves equivalent to\nsound that spread throughout our galaxy.  Though our ears didn't hear it\nthe earth did, and there were both tidal and weather phenomena that followed in\nthe months thereafter.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Sound, whether we hear it or not, is an integral part of\nour existence.  Sound holds things together.  Here's how the apostle\nPaul put it.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"God, who at sundry times and in\ndivers manners spake<\/span> in time past unto the fathers by\nthe prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath\nappointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the\nbrightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding \n                 all\nthings by the word of his power<\/u>, when he had by himself purged our sins,\nsat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high."<\/span><\/i><\/b>  (Hebrews 1:1-3)<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Did you catch that?  He is "upholding all things\n(the Greek word used here is <\/span><\/b>phero<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>:\nmeaning to energize and hold together cohesively<\/u>) by the word (<\/span><\/b>rhema<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>: sound of His word, the speaking forth<\/u>) of\nHis power (<\/span><\/b>dunamis<\/span><\/i><\/b>:force<\/u><\/span><\/b><\/span>, might, miraculous power<\/span><\/u><\/b>)."  He energizes and holds everything together\ncohesively by the sound of His Word going forth.  Because He is God, it is\nthe sound of His power, not the other way around.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Most folks think of it as the power of His Word, but\nthat's not the way Paul phrases it.  It is the Word, the Sound of His Word\nof the power inherent in His very being.  Thus we exist because of sound\n-- the Sound of the Lord.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

When you stop to consider, this is how creation\nbegan.  With sound.  The sound of His Word went forth, "Light\nBE!"  And light was.  Everything about the creation of this\nworld and all that is therein (with the exception of man -- and we'll get to\nthat) began with sound going forth -- the sound of His Word.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Light, therefore, began with sound.  Maybe you think\nI'm wearing this issue thin, but bear with me.  There is a point to this.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Jesus put it like this, <\/span><\/b>"I am the light of the world: he that followeth<\/span> after me shall not walk in darkness, but shall\nhave the light of life."<\/span><\/i><\/b> \n(John 8:12)<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Again He said, <\/span><\/b>"As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the\nworld."<\/span><\/i><\/b>  (John 9:5)<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Now, juxtapose those statements with the way John began\nhis Gospel.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"In the beginning was the Word,\nand the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the\nbeginning with God.  All things were made by Him; and without Him was not\nanything made that was made."<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Then John puts sound and light together.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"In Him was life, and the life\nwas the light of men."<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Are you seeing it?  Sound.  Light. \nLife.  They are inseparable.  They go together.  You can't have\none without the other.  Light exists because of sound.  Sound exists\nwith light.  Life is both light and sound.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Ever notice the difference at Creation between the way God\nmade the earth, the universe, and all that is therein, and the way He made\nman?  Genesis 2:7 tells us that God "formed" (the Hebrew word\nis <\/span><\/b>yatsar<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span>: to mold, to squeeze into shape, to fashion with\ndetermined purpose) man.  It is the first time during the entire creation\nsequence that God departs from the declarative commands to "BE" in\norder to accomplish His creative design.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Thus God took particular care and purpose in man's\ncreation.  After all, the entire creative operation was intended to create\nan environment for man in the first place.  Man was not simply a generic\npart of creation; he was the reason.  And the objective for man's creation\nis revealed in Genesis 1:26-28.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

First of all, Father, Son and Holy Spirit took counsel\ntogether in this.  It was the unified decision that a species of being\nwould come into existence who would be exactly like God, functioning in three\ndimensions simultaneously and having the power of creative speech and creative\nsound -- just like God!<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Thus, man's existence came into being first by God taking\ndeliberate and specific care in creating him.and<\/span>\nmolding him.  Then He breathed into man His own breath -- that same breath\nwith which He generated the commanding sounds of Creation.  (See Genesis\n2:7)  And the very first thing man heard was the sound of the Lord's Voice\ncreating in him the empowerment to do what God did: create with His voice.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

"And God blessed them, and God\nsaid unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue\nit: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air,\nand over every living thing that moveth<\/span> upon the\nearth." <\/span><\/i><\/b>(Genesis 1:28)<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Do you see it?  The very first thing God did was to\nbless them -- to declare and decree in them the empowerment to prosper, to\naccomplish everything they desired.  The second thing God did was to\ndeclare and decree dominion in them -- His authority -- to rule over every\nliving thing upon the earth (except man, of course, and that's an important\ndistinction we'll get into later).<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Next the Lord says to them, <\/span><\/b>"Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed,\nwhich is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the\nfruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.  And to every\nbeast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every\nthing<\/span> that creepeth<\/span> upon the earth, wherein\nthere is life, I have given every green herb for meat:" <\/span><\/i><\/b>(Verses 29 & 30)  And He finishes it off by\nconfirming, <\/span><\/b>"and it was\nso."<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Thus God confirmed the decrees of blessing He had imparted\nwith the sound of His Voice into man.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

In our next Coffee Break, we will expand on this concept\nand show the relationship between the sound that comes forth from us and the\ncreative power of God that operates in and through us.<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Things are not what they seem to\nbe: they're what God says<\/u> they are.  The sound of\nHis Word going forth is what determines the difference between light and\ndarkness, life and death, health or sickness and disease, poverty or\nprosperity.<\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n

The Blessing of the Lord: it makes\nrich and He adds no painful toil and sorrow!<\/span><\/i><\/b>  <\/span><\/b>(Proverbs 10:22)  Be blessed!<\/span><\/o:p><\/b><\/p>\n\n<\/ARTICLE>\n\n
