ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: THE PSALM 23 ADVENTURE, Part 34<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

It probably seems like I\u2019ve been really going overboard\nlately in talking about our grandchildren, but when we see the Covenant of the\nLord being enacted before our eyes on an almost daily basis, it isn\u2019t hard to\nget emotional about it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

A few days ago, I picked Trinity up after school (she\u2019s\nactually in Pre-K).\u00a0 <\/span>She started singing\nalmost as soon as she got into our pickup.\u00a0\n<\/span>As usual, she was singing the scripture song from Isaiah 60:1 that Rich\nWarren did \u2013 Arise, Shine, For Thy Light is Come.\u00a0 <\/span>We had hardly gone a quarter of a mile when\nshe began singing it in tongues.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

I just listened to her for a few minutes.\u00a0 <\/span>Finally I said to her, \u201cTrinity, do you know\nwhat language that is?\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>She shook her\nhead, and then said, \u201cSpanish?\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>I\nlaughed and said, \u201cNo, Sweetheart!\u00a0\n<\/span>That\u2019s not Spanish.\u00a0 <\/span>You\u2019re\nsinging in one of the languages that the angels sing.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>She nodded her head and started in again.<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

All I can say is, \u201cThank you, Jesus!\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>When kids this age (five) get this locked\ndown in them, God is preparing them for something spectacular!<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Today,\nwe\u2019re moving into one of the areas that develop in us \u2013 or perhaps it would be\nbetter to say, one of the things the Lord demonstrates to us as we walk\nthrough, and come out of, the Valley of the Shadow of Death.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

David\u2019s\nstatement and declaration concerning our walk in the Paths of Righteousness\nthrough the Valley of the Shadow of Death becomes a complete statement when he\nfinishes it like this:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I\nwill fear no evil: for Thou Art With Me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort\nme.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>(Psalm 23:4)<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve\ntaken a good look at the truth (and the adventures associated with) I will fear\nno evil, but today, let\u2019s consider how great and how important God\u2019s promise \u2014\nand prophecy \u2014 \u201c<\/span>for Thou art with me<\/span>\u201d really is to us in this walk.\u00a0 <\/span>Then over the coming weeks, we will take a\ndeeper look at the significance of the rod and the staff.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\u2019ve\nheard me share how, beginning at age four, I began to awaken in the early\nmorning hours to see angels in my room.\u00a0\n<\/span>The first few times this happened, my initial reaction was fear, and\neach time, the angel would say to me, \u201cDon\u2019t be afraid.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>As the days and weeks continued, I no longer\nneeded them to tell me that it was OK, they were there, and there was no need\nto be afraid.\u00a0 <\/span>When my fear at their\npresence vanished, it was replaced by a sense of adventure and excitement.\u00a0 <\/span>They began to show things to me.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nwindow of my bedroom would disappear and I would see angels that surrounded the\nplace.\u00a0 <\/span>Then it grew to seeing such\nthings as a stairway into Heaven with angels ascending and descending.\u00a0 <\/span>There were a couple of times when Heaven was\nmuch closer and I was a lot farther up the stairway seeing Jesus at the\ntop.\u00a0 <\/span>The peace that developed in my\nbeing, and the confidence knew no bounds.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

There\nwas a knowing that developed deep within that they were with me all of the\ntime, that Jesus had sent them.\u00a0 <\/span>My\nparents, of course, realized that the Lord was doing something very unusual in\nme and with me. My mother wanted me to see for myself how much of what I was\nexperiencing was recorded already in the Word, and took great pains to teach me\nhow to read by reading the Bible.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

By\nage seven, the Bible had become my regular companion and a habit pattern had\ndeveloped for me reading it both day and night.\u00a0\n<\/span>I woke up one morning very early to see Jesus standing at the foot of my\nbed.\u00a0 <\/span>He didn\u2019t have to say, \u201cPeace, be\nstill.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>(smile)\u00a0 <\/span>He didn\u2019t have to tell me who He was.\u00a0 <\/span>His presence was something I\u2019d come to know\nas a result of the constant visits from the angels.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

As\nHe spoke to me, He gave me visions of events to come \u2014 both in the immediate\nfuture, as well as the distant future.\u00a0\n<\/span>He proceeded to lay out pictures and visions of His specific plan and\npurpose for my life.\u00a0 <\/span>It would be foolish\nfor me to say that I understood much of what was being revealed to me at the\ntime but there was a settled peace in my spirit and a subconscious knowing that\nHe would make everything clear as it became necessary and timely.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

David\nhad much of this same confidence developed in his being at an early age.\u00a0 <\/span>From early in his childhood, a revelation\nbegan to unfold of who he was and what God\u2019s purposes were for him.\u00a0 <\/span>Consider what he writes in the 139th Psalm:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm 139:13-18<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>For thou hast\npossessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother\u2019s womb.\u00a0 <\/span>I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and<\/i>\nwonderfully made: marvelous are<\/i> thy works; and that<\/i> my soul knoweth<\/span> right well.\u00a0\n<\/span>My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and<\/i>\ncuriously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thine eyes did see my\nsubstance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members<\/i> were\nwritten, which<\/i> in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was<\/i>\nnone of them.\u00a0 <\/span>How precious also are thy\nthoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!\u00a0 <\/span>If<\/i> I should count them, they are more\nin number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The confidence that had been bred into\nDavid in his early youth stayed with him.\u00a0\n<\/span>He knew <\/i><\/b>that the Lord was with him.\u00a0 <\/span>Even as a shepherd, tending to his father\u2019s\nsheep on the hillsides, David faced danger from lions and bears, who wanted to\ntake the sheep.\u00a0 <\/span>When David\u2019s brothers,\nwho were warriors, went off to battle to face the Philistines, his father sent\nhim with provisions for them.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

David found the armies of Israel confronted\nby Goliath.\u00a0 <\/span>Because of the confidence he\nhad in God, and the absolutely engraved knowledge in his inner being that God\nwas with him, it puzzled him that the armies of Israel were so intimidated, and\nhe began questioning his brothers (who were resentful of the implications of\ncowardice), as well as other soldiers in the ranks, as to why they were so\nafraid of someone that was a nothing in the sight of God.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Take a look at the following:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I Samuel 17:31-37<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>And when the\nwords were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them<\/i> before Saul: and\nhe sent for him. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>And David\nsaid to Saul, Let no man\u2019s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and\nfight with this Philistine. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>And\nSaul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight\nwith him: for thou art but<\/i> a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father\u2019s sheep,\nand there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>And I went out after him, and smote him,\nand delivered it<\/i> out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I\ncaught him<\/i> by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.<\/o:p><\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n\n

Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this\nuncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the\narmies of the living God. \u00a0<\/span><\/sup>David\nsaid moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out\nof the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.\nAnd Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Saul\nspoke from a place of hope-so, think-so, but not a place of absolute\nconfidence.\u00a0 <\/span>David spoke with that\ncertainty that comes from a life of walking in the paths of righteousness,\nfollowing the Lord, and knowing that God was with him.\u00a0 <\/span>From a purely natural standpoint, Goliath was\nintimidating.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

From\na spiritual standpoint, he represented a zero threat because of his status as\n\u201can uncircumcised Philistine\u201d \u2014 one whose wickedness and evil had no power over\nthe living God!\u00a0 <\/span>David had certain\nrevelation of the truth.\u00a0 <\/span>As Dwain\nMcKenzie once put it, Things are not what they seem to be, they\u2019re what\nGod says they are!<\/o:p><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

David\nsaw past the natural circumstances.\u00a0 <\/span>He\nsaw the truth.\u00a0 <\/span>He knew that the Lord was\nwith him, and that being the case, Goliath was \u201cbread\u201d to be eaten by him.\u00a0 <\/span>You all know the rest of the story.\u00a0 <\/span>David let loose the mark of God against this\nantichrist spirit, and planted that mark in Goliath\u2019s forehead.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You\nunderstand the picture, don\u2019t you?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nmark in the forehead has always been a metaphor for the way a person thinks,\ntheir disposition towards things, the way they reason.\u00a0 <\/span>Goliath\u2019s entire mindset was hatred of\nIsrael, hatred of the God of Israel, and a confidence in his own size, strength\nand military prowess.\u00a0 <\/span>When that mindset\nencountered the mark of God in David\u2019s stone, there was a collision of\nmindsets, and Goliath\u2019s couldn\u2019t stand against the mindset and confidence in\nthe Lord God possessed by David.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

David\nknew<\/i><\/b> that the Lord was with him.\u00a0\n<\/span>It wasn\u2019t theory.\u00a0 <\/span>It wasn\u2019t\nsupposition.\u00a0 <\/span>It wasn\u2019t hope.\u00a0 <\/span>It was the secure knowledge and the thinking\nthat agrees with God that possessed David.\u00a0\n<\/span>The evil thinking and insanity of Goliath\u2019s thinking that he was\nsuperior to the God of Israel came down with a bang when the mark of God hit\nit.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And\nit went beyond that for David.\u00a0 <\/span>Just because\nGoliath fell to the ground unconscious didn\u2019t mean that he couldn\u2019t conceivably\nrecover.\u00a0 <\/span>David took Goliath\u2019s own sword\nand chopped his head off.\u00a0 <\/span>The mark of\nGod finished that anti-God,\u00a0\n<\/span>anti-anointing thinking once and for all!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\nthat level of confidence and knowledge of the presence of the Lord dwelling\nwithin consumes a person, nothing <\/i><\/b>is impossible!\u00a0 <\/span>The enemies we face are nothings because of\nthe presence of the Lord in us and with us.\u00a0\n<\/span>It goes beyond that!\u00a0 <\/span>It isn\u2019t\nsimply that He is with us, or that He is in us: we are in Him<\/i><\/b>!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Consider\nthis.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

John\nspeaks of the \u201cmark of the beast\u201d in Revelation, and says the following:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Revelation 13:16-17<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>And\nhe causeth<\/span> all, both small and great, rich and poor,\nfree and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:\nAnd that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of\nthe beast, or the number of his name.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

When\na person knows with absolute certainty that the Lord is with him, and that He\nis in Christ, the threat of not being able to buy or sell if one does not take\nthat \u201cmark\u201d in their forehead or in their right hand has no power\nwhatever.\u00a0 <\/span>It isn\u2019t intimidating in the\nleast.\u00a0 <\/span>One\u2019s thoughts are not in\nagreement with the beast system.\u00a0 <\/span>One\ndoes not think like the world or accept its mindset.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

By\nthe same token, one does not worry about conducting business (the mark in the\nright hand) according to the dictates of some individual, or some system, or\nsome set of laws and statutes.\u00a0 <\/span>Tell me\nsomething!\u00a0 <\/span>What happens when you run out\nof money (the current medium of exchange) and face needs that would normally be\nmet through financial endeavors and supply?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If\n\u201c<\/span>My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in\nGlory by Christ Jesus<\/span>\u201d\nis the absolute confidence that fills your being, then you don\u2019t fret with the\nnatural circumstances.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cThings are not\nwhat they seem to be; they're what God says they are\u201d becomes your\nmindset.\u00a0 <\/span>You know that the Lord is with\nyou!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

For\nDella and me, this has become our way of life.\u00a0\n<\/span>Other than a monthly Social Security check, we have no visible means of\nsupport.\u00a0 <\/span>Neither of us draw a paycheck\nfor our labors.\u00a0 <\/span>We have no salary of any\nkind.\u00a0 <\/span>You all know that an income from\nSocial Security cannot in any way meet the needs of a household with four\nchildren.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Nevertheless,\nwe watch with utter amazement the continuing provision of the Lord to meet\nevery single need.\u00a0 <\/span>Even when abnormal\nneeds crop up or emergencies occur, the Lord is there to provide abundantly.\u00a0 <\/span>I might normally call it, \u201cmiraculous,\u201d but\nit\u2019s not a miracle when you are walking with the Lord.\u00a0 <\/span>This is normal living!\u00a0 <\/span>We are not dependent on the world\u2019s way of\ndoing things.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme share something with you that happened years ago to enforce this kind of\nunderstanding and confidence in the Lord and His provision.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\nI<\/span><\/a>\nwas working with Dwain McKenzie in the early 1970\u2019s at Long Beach Christian\nCenter (California).\u00a0 <\/span>LBCC was a growing\nfellowship, but the income from the church couldn't even begin to take care of\none family, much less two.\u00a0 <\/span>Because of my\nengineering background and inclination to develop various products and\ninventions for clients, I was able to earn enough of a living for a family of\nsix (at the time).<\/o:p><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Being\nself-employed has its benefits, but it also has its drawbacks.\u00a0 <\/span>If you run out of business \u2014 and you are\noperating on a cash basis \u2014 you soon face the need for money to pay bills or\nbuy food.\u00a0 <\/span>I hit those dry times more\nthan once.<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nwere in the midst of a dry spell financially.\u00a0\n<\/span>Most of the bills were paid, but we were running out of food.\u00a0 <\/span>After putting the family to bed, I went into\nthe kitchen and opened the refrigerator and the cabinets.\u00a0 <\/span>There was enough food left for one meal, and\nthat was it!\u00a0 <\/span>I pointed to the\nrefrigerator and the cabinets and prayed the following:<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cLord,\nyou are the One who called us here.\u00a0\n<\/span>You\u2019ve placed us in this ministry, so our needs are your\nresponsibility.\u00a0 <\/span>You\u2019ve made it clear\nthat you will provide abundantly above all we can think or ask.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019re on your payroll, and we need food for\nthe family.\u00a0 <\/span>I expect you to make the\nprovision necessary, and I thank you for it.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/span><\/span>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

And\nthat, folks, is where I have to leave it for today.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ll pick this story up next week.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
