ANOTHER COFFEE BREAK: THE PSALM 23 ADVENTURE, Part 35<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

Last week, I left you hanging with\nmy story of God\u2019s miraculous provision, so let me re-cap a part of it before we\nfinish this narrative.\u00a0 <\/span>We are still on\nthe topic of <\/span><\/b>For Thou art with me!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nwas working with Dwain McKenzie in the early 1970\u2019s at Long Beach Christian\nCenter (California).\u00a0 <\/span>LBCC was a growing\nfellowship, but the income from the church couldn't even begin to take care of\none family, much less two.\u00a0 <\/span>Because of my\nengineering background and inclination to develop various products and\ninventions for clients, I was able to earn enough of a living for a family of\nsix (at the time).<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Being\nself-employed has its benefits, but it also has its drawbacks.\u00a0 <\/span>If you run out of business \u2014 and you are\noperating on a cash basis \u2014 you soon face the need for money to pay bills or\nbuy food.\u00a0 <\/span>I hit those dry times more\nthan once.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\nwere in the midst of a dry spell financially.\u00a0\n<\/span>Most of the bills were paid, but we were running out of food.\u00a0 <\/span>After putting the family to bed, I went into\nthe kitchen and opened the refrigerator and the cabinets.\u00a0 <\/span>There was enough food left for one meal, and\nthat was it!\u00a0 <\/span>I pointed to the\nrefrigerator and the cabinets and prayed the following:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cLord,\nyou are the One who called us here.\u00a0\n<\/span>You\u2019ve placed us in this ministry, so our needs are your\nresponsibility.\u00a0 <\/span>You\u2019ve made it clear\nthat you will provide abundantly above all we can think or ask.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019re on your payroll, and we need food for\nthe family.\u00a0 <\/span>I expect you to make the\nprovision necessary, and I thank you for it.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n

The\nfamily was well aware of our needs but hadn\u2019t really expressed any concerns\nbecause I told them that the Lord would make whatever provision was necessary.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nclosed the cabinets and refrigerator and went to bed at complete peace.\u00a0 <\/span>About 2:30 in the morning, I awoke, thirsty\nand wanting a glass of water.\u00a0 <\/span>Going into\nthe still-dark kitchen and reaching into the cabinet where the glasses were normally\nkept, my hand bumped something unfamiliar.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\nturned the lights on and began opening kitchen cabinets.\u00a0 <\/span>They were stocked to the max!\u00a0 <\/span>Not only were the basics there (like flour,\nsugar, salt, spices, etc.), there was a variety of cereals for the kids, soups\n\u2013 you name it!\u00a0 <\/span>The refrigerator was\nfull.\u00a0 <\/span>There were fresh vegetables and\nfruit, eggs and milk.\u00a0 <\/span>Anything you could\nthink of had been provided.\u00a0 <\/span>The freezer\nwas full of meat.\u00a0 <\/span>It was as though the\nangel of the Lord had gone on a major shopping expedition!\u00a0 <\/span>(chuckle)\u00a0\n<\/span>The supply was so abundant that I woke up the whole household to see the\nprovision of the Lord.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Some\nmonths down the road, we were in another of those dry spells financially.\u00a0 <\/span>It was a Sunday morning.\u00a0 <\/span>We had enough to make a good spaghetti meal\nwith a tossed salad.\u00a0 <\/span>I figured if we\nwere careful, we could make it last for two or even three meals.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Coming\nhome from church, we set the table and got ready to sit down to our meal.\u00a0 <\/span>The doorbell rang.\u00a0 <\/span>It was Dick and Jeannie Parrish who were part\nof the ministry staff at Long Beach Christian Center.\u00a0 <\/span>Their two children were with them.\u00a0 <\/span>Without a second thought, I invited them to\nhave dinner with us.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In\nI Kings 17, we have the event recorded where the widow of Zarephath is\ninstructed to prepare a meal for Elijah.\u00a0\n<\/span>It is a time of famine in the land, and she resists, saying that she\nonly has enough meal in the house, and a little oil to make some cakes for\nherself and her son.\u00a0 <\/span>Elijah instructs\nher to fix him the meal first, and then for herself.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Despite\nthe fact that it was totally illogical on the face of it, the widow\nobeyed.\u00a0 <\/span>Suddenly, she had enough to take\ncare of herself, her son and Elijah during the remainder of the famine.\u00a0 <\/span>Here\u2019s how the Scripture records it:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I Kings 17:14-16<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\u00a0\n<\/span><\/span>For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall\nnot waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that<\/i> the\nLORD sendeth rain upon the earth. And she went and did according to the saying\nof Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many<\/i> days. And<\/i>\nthe barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to\nthe word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nevent was implanted deeply in my spirit to the place that I knew Dick and\nJeannie\u2019s appearance with their children was being orchestrated by the Lord for\nanother demonstration.\u00a0 <\/span>We pulled up\nextra chairs and added places at the table for us so that there were ten people\nseated together.\u00a0 <\/span>We dug into the bowls\nof spaghetti, meatballs and salad and everyone ate until they were full.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cStuffed\u201d\nwas the common expression.\u00a0 <\/span>We fellowshipped\ntogether for several hours before the Parrish\u2019s finally left.\u00a0 <\/span>Have to say that I was utterly amazed when I\nwent to put the remaining food in the fridge.\u00a0\n<\/span>The bowls were full \u2013 each one separately: the spaghetti, the meatballs\nand the salad -- as though they\u2019d never been touched.\u00a0 <\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

The\nfollowing Monday morning, I was on my knees in the living room praying around\n4:00 AM when the doorbell rang.\u00a0 <\/span>I got\nup, went to answer the door and no one was there.\u00a0 <\/span>Looking up and down the street, there was no\nsign of anyone.\u00a0 <\/span>What was immediately\napparent, however, were the boxes and bags of groceries outside the front\ndoor.\u00a0 <\/span>Once again, the angel of the Lord\nhad been sent to make provision for us.\u00a0\n<\/span>We lacked for nothing!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Time\nhas passed, and it is perhaps a year that has gone by.\u00a0 <\/span>Again, the cupboards were down to virtually\nnothing.\u00a0 <\/span>I was up early, trying to get\nsome breakfast together for the children before they headed off to school.\u00a0 <\/span>We had a six-foot wooden fence that\nsurrounded our yard and my shop behind the house.\u00a0 <\/span>The fence began just in front of the kitchen\ndoor and had a padlocked gate. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Were\nanyone to try and get into the back yard, they would have to be pole-vaulters\nor exceptionally athletic in order to scale that fence.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve said all that to say that we had a\ndoorbell specific to the kitchen door.\u00a0 <\/span>I\nwas fixing the kids\u2019 breakfast when suddenly that doorbell rang.\u00a0 <\/span>You\u2019ll appreciate my puzzlement when I heard\nthat particular ring.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nwas a repeat of the event that had occurred roughly a year previously.\u00a0 <\/span>There were bags of groceries filling the\nsteps to the kitchen door.\u00a0 <\/span>Once again, I\nsaw and knew that the angel of the Lord had made provision.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If\nwe are going to walk with the Lord and follow Him in the paths of\nrighteousness, we\u2019ve got to come to the place that \u201cFor Thou art with me\u201d is\nengraved in our spirits.\u00a0 <\/span>Our lives are\nnot based in \u201cGod and our job,\u201d or perhaps \u201cGod and the doctor,\u201d or \u201cGod and\nanything else.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>Either the Lord Jesus\nChrist is in us, or He is not.\u00a0 <\/span>Either we\nare in Him, or we are not!\u00a0 <\/span>There\u2019s no\nway around it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\nme be clear.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m not criticizing the use\nof doctors, and I\u2019m certainly not downplaying the need for us to be\nworking.\u00a0 <\/span>We simply have to place our\nfocus in the right place.\u00a0 <\/span>God uses\ndoctors, but they aren\u2019t the ones who heal us.\u00a0\n<\/span>Jesus is the healer!\u00a0 <\/span>God uses our\njobs and our employment, but He is the One who has enabled us with the skills\nof our trades.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jesus\nmade this promise to His disciples:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Matthew 28:19-20<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>Go ye\ntherefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and\nof the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things\nwhatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway<\/span>,\neven<\/i> unto the end of the world<\/u>. Amen.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\nput that statement in its proper context.\u00a0\n<\/span>First of all, Jesus gives us a command to go and disciple all\nnations.\u00a0 <\/span>To disciple means to bring\nsomeone under the discipline of the Master and Teacher.\u00a0 <\/span>It means to demonstrate that discipline so that\nit becomes real to those around.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Secondly,\nHe instructs us to immerse those same people into the onoma<\/span><\/i><\/b> \u2014 the character, the nature, the very\nessence \u2014 of Father, and Son, and Holy Spirit.\u00a0\n<\/span>If we are not thoroughly immersed ourselves in Father\u2019s character, how\nthen do we immerse someone else is something we don\u2019t possess?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Take\nit the next step.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

How\ndo we immerse someone into the nature, the character and the very essence of\nthe Lord Jesus Christ, if we haven\u2019t first been immersed in Him \u2014 and know that\nHe is immersed in us?\u00a0 <\/span>Finally, how do we\nimmerse someone into the very nature, character and essence of Holy Spirit if\nwe have not first been immersed, baptized, overwhelmed and saturated by Holy\nSpirit ourselves?<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Lastly,\nHe instructs us to teach and instruct these \u201cdisciples\u201d according to all that\nHe has commanded us and instilled, engraved and poured into us!\u00a0 <\/span>If we\u2019ve not been submissive to His Word and\nHis Will in the first place, anything we have to offer or teach will be empty,\nto say the least \u2014 devoid of His character and nature.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s\nwrap it up today with this one!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Hebrews 13:5b-6<\/span><\/u><\/b>: <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/i>\u2026.be<\/span><\/i>\ncontent with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave\nthee, nor forsake thee<\/u>. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is<\/i> my\nhelper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

This\nis absolutely essential and critical to our being able to avoid absorbing and\nacquiring what we commonly refer to as \u201cthe mark of the beast.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>If the fact that Jesus is with us 24 hours\nper day, 365.25 days per year, then there is nothing whatever that the world\ncan do to intimidate us or coerce us into thinking the way it does and\/or\noperating and conducting business like the beast system.\u00a0 <\/span>The answer is, \u201c<\/span>For\nThou art with me!<\/span>\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

If\nit seems that I\u2019ve gotten off track here with my discussion of the \u201cmark,\u201d\nplease understand that people unwittingly take this mark.\u00a0 <\/span>They do so because there is not an awareness\nof the presence of the Lord with them. \u00a0<\/span>They just don\u2019t know, and don\u2019t understand the\nincredible significance of having the Lord constantly with them, in them,\noperating through them, and their dwelling in Christ Jesus. \u00a0<\/span>When we know of a certainty that the Lord is\nwith us, there are no threats whatever, including the threats of not being able\nto buy or sell, that can intimidate or coerce us into anything ungodly.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

I\u2019ve\ntalked about the Hebrew metaphors for the \u201cmark,\u201d and let me be clear.\u00a0 <\/span>If indeed there comes a day where some agency\nor governmental institution demands that we accept a subdermal device in our\nforehead or right hand, those who accept it will have long before accepted the\nreal mark \u2013 the way of thinking and the way of doing business of the beast and\nthe beast system.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now,\nlet\u2019s wrap up today with how David put things:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Psalm\n118:6-12<\/span><\/u><\/b>:\n<\/span>The LORD is<\/i> on my side; I will not fear: what can man do\nunto me?\u00a0 <\/span>The LORD taketh my part with\nthem that help me: therefore shall I see my desire<\/i> upon them that hate\nme.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

It\nis<\/span><\/i> better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.\u00a0 <\/span>It is<\/i> better to trust in the LORD than\nto put confidence in princes.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

All nations\ncompassed me about: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them.\u00a0 <\/span>They compassed me about; yea, they compassed\nme about: but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.\u00a0 <\/span>They compassed me about like bees; they are\nquenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the LORD I will destroy\nthem.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Now that\u2019s<\/i><\/b> the way one\nthinks, believes and responds when they know <\/i><\/b>that the Lord is with them.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

One more time, let\u2019s recap what\nDavid says about this:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Yea, though I\nwalk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, I will fear no evil, for Thou\nart with me.\u00a0 <\/span>Thy rod and thy staff, they\ncomfort me.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We\u2019ve already covered our\ndeliverance from the <\/span>Fear of Evil,<\/span><\/a> <\/span><\/span><\/span>and we\u2019ve spent the\nlast two weeks on <\/span>For Thou art with me<\/span>.\u00a0\n<\/span>Next week, we will take up a discussion on the rod<\/span>.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n
