years\nago, I had the opportunity to visit his ranch and see a modern-day shepherd at\nwork.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>You all probably understand that\nthere is a huge difference between a shepherd and a sheep-herder.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>A shepherd leads his sheep.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>A sheep-herder drives his sheep, often using\na sheep dog.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>What I saw and what I\nlearned watching Uncle Roy is germane to where we will be going during the next\nfew weeks.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Once\nagain, here is the complete statement David makes as he describes our walk in\nthe Paths of Righteousness through the Valley of the Shadow of Death.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#A50021'>Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I\nwill fear no evil: for Thou Art With Me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort\nme.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>(Psalm 23:4)<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>When\nfolks think of the \u201crod,\u201d they associate it with the shepherd\u2019s staff and make\nthe two synonymous with each other.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>They\nare not.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>There\u2019s a clich\u00e9 that has been\naround for who knows how long that goes like this: \u201cspare the rod and spoil the\nchild.\u201d<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve even heard folks quote this\nas though this were a verse of Scripture.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>It is not!<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>There IS a principle,\nhowever, embodied in this statement that does come from the Word.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Take a look at a couple of statements from\nthe proverbs of Solomon.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Proverbs\n10:13-14<\/span><\/u><\/b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>:<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";color:#A50021'>In the lips of him\nthat hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod <i>is<\/i> for the back of\nhim that is void of understanding.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#A50021'>Wise <i>men<\/i> <span class=SpellE>lay up<\/span> knowledge: but\nthe mouth of the foolish <i>is<\/i> near destruction<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt'>.<\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\n\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\";color:black'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Proverbs\n13:24<\/span><\/u><\/b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>:<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";color:#A50021'>He that spareth his rod\nhateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Here\nis the statement where folks get their clich\u00e9.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Proverbs\n22:15<\/span><\/u><\/b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>:<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";color:#A50021'>Foolishness <i>is<\/i>\nbound in the heart of a child; <i>but<\/i> the rod of correction shall drive it\nfar from him.<\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\";\ncolor:#A50021'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>And\nfinally, one more from the Proverbs before we change the theme.<span\nstyle='color:black'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><b><u><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Proverbs\n29:15<\/span><\/u><\/b><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>:<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";color:#A50021'>The rod and reproof\ngive wisdom: but a child left <i>to himself<\/i> bringeth his mother to shame.<\/span><span\nstyle='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\",\"serif\"'><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Before\nwe move on to what I consider to be the most important aspect of the rod in\nGod\u2019s economy, let me refer you to these scriptures we\u2019ve just looked at and\nshare a recent story with you.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Most\nfolks see these verses and immediately think of the rod as a symbol of\npunishment.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>There are those in our\nsociety today who see a father spanking his son or daughter and immediately\njump to the conclusion that they are guilty of child abuse.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Many of you will remember the book published\ninitially in 1946 by Dr. Benjamin Spock in which he admonishes parents against\nthe use of spankings and instead says, \u201ctalk to your children.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Don\u2019t spank them.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s abusive.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Let\u2019s\nsee \u2026 I think the title of that book was, <b style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'><i\nstyle='mso-bidi-font-style:normal'>How to Raise Children for Fun and Profit<\/i><\/b>.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>(smile)<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>Not really, but it might as well have been.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The title of his book was actually, <b\nstyle='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'><i style='mso-bidi-font-style:normal'>Common\nSense Book of Baby and Child Care<\/i><\/b>.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>In fact, Dr. Spock probably did more with his book to destroy our\nnation\u2019s understanding of biblical child care and educate a new generation of\nfamilies who didn\u2019t really know how to raise children.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>And\nindeed, that mindset and philosophy has become the political correctness of\nthis generation.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It is the reason why we\nhave such open rebellion, disobedience and disdain for authority in our society\ntoday.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>It\nhas become so integrated into modern thinking that school teachers even tell their\nstudents that their parents do not have the right to administer spankings and\nthat they as children have a right to call the authorities and accuse their\nparents of child abuse.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The Enemy has so\ninstilled this kind of thinking into our society that we have preachers\nteaching that \u201c<b><i>God is a loving God; He would never allow harm to come to\nyou, and He would never permit events in your life of a hurtful nature<\/i><\/b>.\u201d<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>This teaching is a perversion of the truth\nbecause it leaves out the element of discipline.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\nresult is that when many would-be Christians experience the correction of the\nLord, they rebel against it and some even turn away from the Lord because they\ndo not understand the significance of His love.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>Consider this amplified version of Proverbs 13:24.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";\ncolor:navy'>He who refrains and restrains himself from the use of the rod for\ncorrection is the enemy of his son, (and treats his son as his enemy), but the\nfather who loves and cherishes his son will discipline him, instruct, rebuke\nand chastise him quickly. <\/span><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\n\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'><span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0<\/span>(Proverbs 13:24,\nRAC Translation and Amplification)<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Real\nlove is at the root of true discipline.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>When a person receives discipline and instruction in love, it creates a\nwall of authority around them.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>There is\na sense of safety and protection that nothing else can bring.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Walking\nin the Paths of Righteousness, the Lord was leading us and directing our\nfootsteps because his very nature, authority, personality and character were at\nstake in us.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>His discipline in our lives\nwas critical to that development.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It is\nalso what has generated the sense of safety and protection needed for our\nconfidence in the Valley of the Shadow of Death.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>I\nneed to share a couple of quick stories with you to illustrate what I\u2019m talking\nabout.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>When\nour daughter, Danielle, was in the ninth grade, she had a sociology class with\na teacher who spouted the Dr. Spock insanity.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>Because of the \u201cliberal\u201d mindset, this teacher also told her students\nthat they were entitled to call the police if their parents spanked them.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Danielle\ncould be pretty mouthy as a teenager, and there were times when she would get\non her high horse and try to ignore our instructions or requirements.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>There came a day when she had been instructed\nto get certain tasks completed before she left for school.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>She did not do them and ran out the door to\nget to school before we realized that she had left her tasks undone.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>When she came home from school, I let her\nknow that she was going to get a spanking \u2014 her age notwithstanding.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>\u201cYou\ndon\u2019t have the right to spank me,\u201d she smarted off.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cIf you try, I will call the police.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>I\nlaughed and said, \u201cSweetheart, we\u2019ll take care of that right now.\u201d<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>I picked up the phone and made a call to the\npolice department.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>We knew the police\nofficer who patrolled our residential area, and sure enough, the dispatcher\nsent him to our house.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>When he arrived,\nDanielle and I were both standing at the front door, waiting.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>I\nexplained the situation to him.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>Danielle, of course, tried to explain to him that it was against the law\nfor me to spank her.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\nofficer looked at her, then he looked at me and said, \u201cWould you like me to\nhold her while you give her a spanking?\u201d<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>The shocked look on Danielle\u2019s face made us both laugh.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It was absolutely classic!<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The officer went on to explain to Danielle\nthat there is a huge difference between the discipline of spanking, and child\nabuse, and that she needed to listen and obey when she was given instructions.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>He\nheld her arms while I gave her a couple of swats on her rear end and that was\nthat!<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It ended, once and for all,\nDanielle\u2019s belief that she could do as she wanted, without any threat of\nspanking.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It also produced a change in\nher mindset that matured as she got older, married and had children of her own.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>Today,\nDanielle is probably one of and Joseph is\nan artisan in marble and granite.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\ndegree of discipline that was necessary for Danielle also produced an ongoing\nlevel of relationship in which she is closer and more communicative with us\nthan all of the rest of our children.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>There\u2019s not a week that goes by when she doesn\u2019t call just to see how we\nare doing.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>David\ngoes on to use the following Word from the Lord to demonstrate that the\nlovingkindness of the Lord is always the overriding element in any discipline\nor style='font-size:13.0pt;\nfont-family:\"Bernard MT Condensed\",\"serif\";color:#A50021'>Then will I visit\ntheir transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with nine.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Because of all the lack of discipline he has\nhad in the past, he has also been one of the most difficult to deal with.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>We have had to pray with him constantly for\ndeliverance from issues stemming from the past years.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Alden has also been the one who has received\nthe most spankings.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>The\nother day I had to give him a good spanking because of issues with\nstubbornness. About an hour later, he came to me and said, \u201cGrandpa, I love\nyou.\u201d<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The more discipline that he\nreceives, the greater the degree of closeness and affection we are seeing.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Each night, when the children are put to bed\nand we pray with them, one of the things that I pray over them is that they\nwill have dreams, visions and visitations from the Lord.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ve already shared with you Jasmine\u2019s visitations\nwith Jesus.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>To\npreface what I\u2019m about to share, we have had a wonderful friend in the form of\nJim Christianson.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Jim was a retired\ntrial attorney from California who had to give up his practice because of\nmultiple brown recluse spider bites that went undiagnosed for too long before\nthe doctors realized what had happened.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>He ultimately lost his legs through multiple amputations along with his\nleft eye.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>We have had him in our\nfellowship \u2013 and really a part of our family \u2013 for more than four years.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The four grandchildren had become very close\nto him.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Last Friday night, he went home\nto be with the Lord.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>This\nmorning, sitting at the breakfast table, Alden said to me, \u201cGrandpa, I dreamed\nlast night that I went to Heaven.\u201d<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>I\nsaid, \u201cAlden, that\u2019s wonderful!<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Did you\nsee Jesus?\u201d<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cYes, and Jim was with\nhim.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He was standing up next to Jesus\nand he had his legs and he looked real good.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>I asked him why he didn\u2019t come back to earth and he said, \u2018Because I\u2019m\nvery happy here \u2014 and besides, I don\u2019t want to lose my legs again.\u201d<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>It was a bit humorous, but for Alden, it was\nvery real and very important.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He then\nproceeded to tell me that Jim took him to see his new house, and that it was\nvery big and beautiful.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>I asked him if\nit was like a mansion, and he nodded his head.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>\u201cThen\nI got to walk on streets with Jesus that were like diamonds.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>They were so bright I couldn\u2019t look at them.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>He\nthen expressed disappointment because \u201cGrandma woke me up to give me colloidal\nsilver.\u201d<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>He went back to sleep and\nimmediately dreamed that he was in Heaven with Jesus.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cJesus showed me Bethlehem, where He was\nborn.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>I\u2019ve\ngiven you the somewhat abbreviated version, but I wanted to share these things\nwith you to make the continuing point that discipline produces real fruit in\nour lives.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>There are many other examples\nthat could be shared, but you get the picture.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>The objective of the rod of discipline is to produce the fruit of\nrighteousness.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>When that same discipline\nis administered in love, it produces a bond of love, and it also produces a\nsense of safety and peace.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>For\nAlden, it has been producing significant change.<span\nstyle='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>Because the discipline is being administered\nwith the understanding that the objective is for us to be like Jesus and to\ndevelop His character and nature in us, Alden is desiring more and more to know\nHim.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0 <\/span>The back-to-back dreams last night\nare some of the evidence of the development taking place in him.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>I\u2019ve\nmade these points because the Paths of Righteousness (that we walk in as we\nfollow the Lord) also bring the discipline necessary that produces the\nknowledge of absolute safety and protection.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>The Rod of Discipline comforts us and develops a wall of authority\naround us that the Enemy cannot penetrate.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>We get to know and understand that the Lord sets these boundaries for us\nin order to keep us from getting ourselves into situations where the Enemy\u2019s\npurpose is to bring destruction and death.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>\u00a0\n<\/span>The Rod of Discipline is for our protection against evil.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:normal;\nmso-pagination:none'><span style='font-size:13.0pt;font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",\"serif\"'>There\nis another, totally different, aspect of the
